We renovated a 160-year-old traditional house in 2023. The total site is 700 tsubo (2300 m ²), and the building is 170 m ², making it very spacious. While it is an 8-minute drive to Kumamoto Castle, it is a cottage where you can relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle. The garden is full of trees and flowers, including a large camphor tree that has been there for over 160 years, black pines, Japanese maples, and bamboo forests, so you can enjoy the trees and flowers in all seasons. The host lives in the adjacent building, so you can feel at home. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.
