[House story] This house was born out of a childhood dream of living in a Nordic house.It all started with my longing for a cosy cabin like the ones in stories and for the tranquillity of nature. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband Andy, took over a cabin that was due to be demolished just one month later. This house has been carefully renovated, piece by piece, by my husband and I, like a work of art. An old private house for rent just one group per day, surrounded by rivers and forests. Here, you can enjoy the time itself while wrapped in sound, fire, water, and stars. The music room has a grand piano, drum, guitar, and bass. In the pizza oven experience (extra charge), you bake authentic Neapolitan pizza, and at night watch the stars and the Milky Way surrounded by BBQs and bonfire fires. In the summer, you can play in the river just around the corner, and enjoy a tent sauna (extra charge) in nature. There is a former cafe full kitchen in the old house, so everyone can cook together or read quietly in the library. Feel free to spend every “time you like”. The bath is a ceramic bathtub with Shinraku-yaki. Relax your mind and body while being surrounded by the warmth of a wood-burning fire and the scent of cypress. Not a hotel, but spending time in "our own place" where no one is disturbed. Enjoy such a luxurious time. Transportation is also available to the nearest station. This is [Kokoro] – a private rental of a traditional Japanese house. This is a private house for one group per day where you can feel close to the rich nature of Shiga Prefecture and enjoy country life. It is an old and calm space that can accommodate up to 10 people. Please relax and enjoy your stay with your family and friends. It is about an hour by car from the city of Kyoto, and if you are coming by train, it is about 20 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by taxi from Adogawa Station on the JR Kosai Line. It is popular with overseas customers, families, and groups. We also rent out a BBQ set (equipment) for a fee, so please feel free to contact us. Free parking on premises. Parking is available for up to 3 vehicles if it is a regular car. In case of large cars, please contact us in advance as it may be difficult for 3 cars. If you consult us in advance, we can also rent it for a fee. We also offer free bicycle rental. There are also plenty of outdoor facilities nearby, so please use it as a base for your activities. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.

Omi's Machiya "Kado" Traditional building preservation area

This is the only guest house (entire house rental) facing Shinmachi Street in an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The streets lined with merchants' houses, built in the late Edo period to the Meiji era, give you a strange feeling as if time has stopped when you step into it. This Shinmachi neighborhood is important not only for its scenery but also as a historical site. This is a very rare accommodation where you can stay in such an area.
