Casa Del Mar with the Best views in Encounter Bay

LeanneRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Inspiring decor and surroundings. Casa del mar was a gorgeous getaway for my family and I with all the essential amenities. We spent the weekend admiring the interiors, layout and view. There’s lot to do, we played pool, finska, puzzles, went on walks and watched movies at night. We hope to be back again

Waves & Whispers. Beach side home.

Anna Rating, 5 stars1 month ago
This was my second stay at Miranda’s place and it’s officially my favourite beach getaway spot. Everything was just as lovely as I remembered: clean, calm, and so thoughtfully set up. You can tell a lot of care goes into the space, and it has that perfect mix of comfort and style. The location is amazing too, just a short stroll to the beach. Can’t wait to come back again.

Your guide to Second Valley

All About Second Valley

Hidden away on the Fleurieu Peninsula, the tranquil coastal town of Second Valley has the luxury of being one of the best beaches in the country without the visitor numbers of other local shorelines.

With its dramatic steep cliffs and crystal-clear waters, Second Valley is a breathtaking destination for those in search of a getaway on Australia’s southern coast. Kayakers come here to explore hidden caves along the coastline while anglers fish off the jetty for squid. The area is a draw for snorkelers and scuba divers who arrive from all over the world to discover the hard-to-spot leafy seadragon, which can only be found in the waters of South Australia.

Its proximity to Kangaroo Island’s famous wildlife reserves and rock formations means that many visitors use accommodations in Second Valley as a rest stop before continuing on their journey. Epicureans are also well served by the McLaren Vale wine region less than an hour’s drive away.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Second Valley

Second Valley is a popular destination year round, but the high season from January until April and then from November to December is characterised by warm temperatures and dry days. Less rainfall and sunnier skies at these times of year make good beach weather more likely. If spending long days near the waves sounds like your idea of paradise, plan your trip for February when the sea is warm and the weather is perfect for beachcombing.

Every year, Second Valley hosts a Ukulele Festival — also called “Uke-Fest” — to celebrate local talent within the community. If you prefer your art to be more visual, the Festival Fleurieu happens every two years in April and features mouth-watering food, eye-catching artwork, and plenty of fun activities.

Top things to do in Second Valley

Water Activities

At Second Valley, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy on the open water. Snorkelling is a visitor favourite as the crystal-clear waters guarantee the best view under the surface. If you would rather be on the water than in it, there’s plenty of equipment you can rent, including SUP boards and kayaks.

Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday, merchants and farmers gather at Second Valley Hall to sell their products. Chutneys, chocolates, and fresh produce fill the stalls, with no shortage of snack options to take to the beach or fuel a road trip to Kangaroo Island. You can get to know the locals while you peruse their offerings.

Deep Creek Conservation Park

Not too far from Second Valley, you will find Deep Creek Conservation Park. The park has the largest portion of remaining natural vegetation on the Fleurieu Peninsula and houses an abundance of local wildlife. If you love a good hike and are keen to appreciate the flora and fauna, this is the place for you.
