A great spot for coffee and cake after browsing the galleries uptown. You'll feel transported to Pre-War Vienna. The museum is worth visiting as well and the gift shop has a great selection of books and houseware.

A longstanding favorite among artists, this is a great spot for a quiet, Japanese meal in Soho.

A favorite spot of Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring among others, Mr Chow has hosted many famous artists, dealers, collectors, and is still a place to see and be scene. The food is good, too.

A classic since the 80s, Odeon is the perfect spot for a drink or dinner after visiting galleries in Tribeca. I highly recommend their French fries, and if you have a sweet tooth, order their homemade mint chip ice cream for dessert!

Best cappuccino in the city and in close proximity to many of the uptown galleries. The food is excellent here, too.

Newly reopened in the historic Chelsea hotel, this is a great bar for a drink and a fun vibe. The food is hit and miss. Order the Portonico (drink).

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The cuisine is modern Austrian and there's an enormous Julian Schnabel portrait of the owner and chef Kurt Gutenbrunner on the walls (the artist lives just around the corner). Don't leave without having the Salzburger Nockerl -- I imagine this is what heaven tastes like.

Shops

Owned by the art dealer Paula Cooper, this is one of my favorite bookshops in the city. They have a large selection of art books as well as literature and children's sections. They also host good readings.

Museums

Founded by category-defying artist Isamu Noguchi, this was the first museum in the United States to be established, designed, and installed by a living artist to show their own work. Located in LIC, the museum is viewed among the artist's great achievements.
