Cottage in Los Angeles
Private Modern Guesthouse near Mulholland Drive
A free standing 500 sq/ft 1 bedroom rustic Spanish split level guest house with private entrance, manicured terraced landscaping and a spacious light filled interior with all the modern amenities. The open plan living space contains a fully equipped efficiency kitchen with chef's range, stainless steel under-counter refrigerator, marble countertops, imported tile, and a contemporary living area with convertible sleeping sofa for additional accommodation, eating/working island, and entertainment center containing 33" tv with DirecTV, Netflix, and high speed wifi. The lower split level contains a custom tiled bathroom with heated floors, large shower, and a floor to ceiling mirror. A separate bedroom area with large closet and deluxe queen size mattress provides additional comfort and privacy from the main living area. The guest house has central heating and air conditioning for desired temperature comfort. Fresh towels, linen and bedding is provided, and new and vintage furnishings, original artwork, books and objects have been selected by the architect/owner for guest's enjoyment. Non metered City street parking is almost always available directly in front of the guest house. Complimentary Peet's coffee, a selection of teas, and bottled filtered and mineral water are provided by the host for guest's enjoyment. Guests have direct access to the guest house through the front garden gate and up a small flight of stairs. Host will provide guests with keys upon arrival. Guests enter and exit the guest house through a private entrance. Flanking the staircase is a small outdoor area with seating for guest's private use. After initial meeting and key exchange with host, the guest house is all yours for your enjoyment. Hosts live in the main house behind the guest house and you are more than welcome to say hello or to contact us if you have any questions or need anything for your stay. Laurel Canyon offers dynamic city life and bohemian rural charm, just a short drive from art institutions, studios, restaurants, and nightlife. Get out in the fresh air on Hollywood Hills hiking trails and enjoy panoramic views of the entire city. A local bus stop is just around the corner, but this being LA, a car is recommended. Uber and Lyft are popular taxi alternatives and are available at the guest house within minutes. While we are confident you'll find staying at our accommodations relaxing and utterly enjoyable, we must confess this is not a tucked-away bucolic country cottage, but a private contemporary urban experience situated between LA's dynamic city life and its bohemian rural charms on Laurel Canyon Blvd. Although we constructed the guest cottage with double thick insulated walls and double pained windows to mediate exterior temperature and noise, the cottage faces the boulevard and intermittent traffic noise might be of concern to some sound sensitive guests.

Guesthouse in Los Angeles
Casa Carmona, a Mid-City Garden Oasis near Museums
Casa Carmona is a little oasis in the big city. It's convenient to just about anywhere you would want to visit while in Los Angeles. Private entrance allows you to come and go as you please. Very diverse selection of restaurants and there is a 7-11 as well as a small grocery store (that delivers) less than a block away if you would rather eat in. Laundromat and dry cleaners are one block away which is helpful for longer stays. Street parking is available. Convenient to public transportation. Full access to the guest house and the backyard area including lounge chairs and dining table. I live in the adjacent house so am able to offer help during guest's stay. I love meeting my guests from all over the world but respect your privacy and comfort! Casa Carmona sits behind a charming Spanish house in Wilshire Vista, a neighborhood created in the 1920s. This is a diverse and safe area, within walking distance of Museum Row and the Grove. Plenty of free parking is available. Approximately half my guests rent a car and there is unrestricted street parking available except for street cleaning on Tuesday afternoons. The other half of my guests rely on Uber and Lyft which are always available within minutes. There is plentiful public transportation within walking distance. One bus stop is less than a block away on one major street and another the opposite direction a block and a half from the house. There is also a Zip Car location less than a block away. The main bed is full size. The pullout sofa is twin bed. There is a small fridge/freezer, microwave oven, 2 burner electric cooktop, and George Forman grill for cooking. Also have a Keurig for coffee and electric tea kettle and assortment of teas. There is a end table that is gate-leg so can be used for in-room dining. Folding chairs in closet as well as extra folding table in closet. Hair dryer in bathroom. Plenty of closet space. Two luggage racks. Iron is provided. I also provide a beach blanket, tote and towels for excursions to the beach. For relaxation time at the Casa there are plentiful entertainment options including Amazon Echo, TV with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, many movies, PlayStation and several board games with even more available upon request!

Your guide to West Hollywood

All About West Hollywood

Bordered by Hollywood to the east and Beverly Hills to the west, West Hollywood is known for its music, art, and fashion. At just over 10 square kilometres, the city is a stone’s throw from some of California’s biggest attractions, including world-famous theme parks and movie studios. Sunset Boulevard’s most famous section — the Sunset Strip — begins and ends in West Hollywood. The Strip, over two kilometres long, is home to luxury fashion boutiques, world-class restaurants, and some of the most famous live music venues, nightclubs, and comedy clubs in the world.

As the pride flags and rainbow-coloured crosswalks all over the neighborhood attest, West Hollywood has long been a haven for the LGBTQ community, with a vibrant drag scene and numerous gay bars, organizations, shops, and restaurants. You’ll find events dedicated to the queer community throughout the year, but especially during Pride Month in June, when the entire neighborhood celebrates. The city’s Design District boasts the flagship stores of some of the world’s most famous brands. Visitors come here to browse the shops on Melrose, stop off for brunch at one of the area’s signature open-air eateries, and check out the galleries at the Pacific Design Centre.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in West Hollywood

Warm weather, reliably sunny days, and a packed program of events make West Hollywood holiday rentals popular all year round. You can expect hot days and warm nights from July to September, so remember to pack your hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses to soften the bright Southern California light. In April, Fiesta Broadway takes over 36 blocks of Downtown LA, turning it into a Mexican street fair full of food, music, and dancing. October to April are pleasant months to visit West Hollywood because of their mild, clear days without extreme heat. In October, the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval fills Santa Monica Boulevard with DJs, costume contests, and Halloween revelry. Cooler temperatures November through February attract visitors looking to avoid the hotter temperatures in the height of summer, but they do come with a chance of rain, so be sure to pack an umbrella.

Top things to do in West Hollywood

Live Entertainment on the Sunset Strip

The famous Sunset Strip’s rock shows and comedy gigs are where some of the most famous names in entertainment got their big breaks. You might just be sitting in the audience when the next big star begins their career. Sunset Boulevard is also packed with world-class restaurants and celebrity-studded rooftop cocktail bars. When the sun comes up, neon lights give way to visitors stopping by 1950s-inspired burger joints and the city’s largest independent bookstore.

Runyon Canyon

Just 10 minutes from West Hollywood, you’ll find the 160-acre Runyon Canyon Park, which sits on the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. There are three main trails to explore here, including the East Ridge Trail, which boasts two commanding lookouts — Clouds Rest and Inspiration Point. At both points, you’ll be rewarded with some of the best views of Los Angeles, and you might even spot a movie star or two on their daily exercise run.

West Hollywood Library

With a curved white exterior and walls of glass, this unique public building includes a municipal art gallery with changing exhibitions featuring original works from some of the world’s most famous contemporary artists and photographers, as well as a permanent, extensive collection of LGBTQ literature and history. Check out the murals on the walls of the parking structure and the elaborate sculptural wood ceiling that covers the whole second floor.
