Classic, 1963 Beach shack, furnished with a designer eye. Featured on @australian_architectural_escapes and selected by Concrete Playground as Victoria's perfect escape for a Digital Detox! Elevated at the highest point on the hill, a 450m walk to Beach 5, Tea Tree Hill is the perfect city detox. A simple combination of light filled, private & social spaces, inside and out. Check Insta @teatreehill / #teatreehill for more shots!
UPDATE : COVID-19 Unfortunately, with the outbreak of Covid-19, stage three restrictions on social distancing, and the goverments recommendation NOT to travel, we recommend booking your visit from June 2020 onwards. Though we have availability, any bookings and subsequent travel to our properties through this trying time are at the discretion of the travelling party. During this period, we have taken additional cleaning and hygeine precautions at the home in light of the outbreak, and continue to offer full refund to anyone affected by Covid-19 (directly or indirectly) Thanks, and stay safe. Dan & Co This space is a true haven, a true escape... There were plans to renovate, or rebuild completely, but internal spaces are so original, and so relaxing, that it only took a layering of modern comforts to make it a comfortable, low-maintenance weekend escape. In an attempt to bring a little more romance, in December 2016 We added an exclusive outdoor bathroom featuring custom imported finishes, and beautiful Cocoon Eco Fire. All yours to indulge in and enjoy. The art is original, and many furniture pieces have been commissioned by local artisan's - the side and coffee tables, the dining room centrepiece and the handles all locally produced. Vintage European furniture by Cappellini and Erkhol, and accessories from travels all over the world have been used to finish the space. A Bang & Olufsen sound system drives the mood. Candles, essential oils, and unique lighting ensure the space can be tailored to whatever mood you're in. The television is connected to a DVD player and XBOX. We have not connected the antenna - you're at the beach, get out there! Children's toys, drawing equipment & board games sit awaiting a rainy day, as do a diverse range of cook books, cooking equipment & design magazines... Complimentary Whisky and Port await your call for a night cap, and fresh coffee will get you up in the morning. NOTE the kitchen does NOT feature an OVEN - I use the bbq or fire pit to roast! If possible, sleep with the window open, the sound the ocean is the best....
Venus Bay remains the quintessential beach escape. There is so much of 'nothing' to enjoy! Bordered by the inlet on one side, and wild (or beautifully calm (dependant on the day or hour!) Bass Strait on the other, you are guaranteed wonderful coastal scapes. The inlet (accessed from the boat ramp of the second estate, or any of the parking area's along Tarwin river, is a haven for great fishing, bird watching, or straight out relaxing... Watch the Bay for rips and currents - Venus has a reputation as a wild stretch of coast. Swim within your limits, or head up to the patrolled beach zone in Beach #1. If the wind is up, head down the road to Walkerville - facing the opposing direction, and with fantastic views of the prom, it's a must!
  • We went there to celebrate my partner’s birthday. This stylish place really surprised her with the swing in the front yard, big decking, the fire pit in the yard, and all the details in the room. Didn’t try the outdoor bath, because it rained with heavy wind the day we arrived and the bathtub got filled with leaves and some dirt. Saw a big canvas next to it on the floor. Guess it was supposed to be covering the bathtub but got blown off by the wind. The internet was pretty poor, but for people going there for a detox trip away from the social network, this could be an advantage. Perfect place for a couple though there are two bedrooms. Would be weird for two sets of couples to stay, cuz there’s not bedroom door, but only curtains. Our dog enjoyed the outdoor area as well, big and a lot to explore. Ten minutes walking distance from the stunning Beach No.5. Fine sand and lots of waves (perfect for beginner surfers). Definitely suggest going there for a walk around sunset. It is mind blowingly spectacular!

  • This is exactly as the title suggests, a quintessential beach shack with sensitivity and care in leaving the natural features of the original retro beach shack architecture. There is enough spoil to make it feel updated where necessary including an outdoor bath and shower as well as option for outdoor movies on the deck. The deck was also great for my morning yoga with the sound of native bird life adding to the overall atmosphere with the sound of the ocean close by. Perfect for a getaway to recuperate and switch off.

    Shari2020-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great location -walking distance to the beach. The house was beautifully designed inside and out. The convenience of having an outside shower is great when returning from the beach covered in sand. A must stay in Venus Bay.

  • A perfect place to relax for a few days and we appreciated the local tips to make the most of our time

  • We absolutely loved our stay at this quintessential ‘beach shack’. Would definitely recommend, Dan’s a great host and very helpful with local insight.

  • Stylish space and beautiful location, we enjoyed our stay :)

    Yvette2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Dan was incredibly helpful, he's clearly spent time thinking about every detail! The location was beautiful - it really is the quintessential beach shack! Had such a nice today and would go back in a heart beat!

    Elise2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house is relaxing with a vacation vibe. Dan was responsive and he provided a lot of useful information. It would be better if dishwasher and oven are provided and the WiFi connection is more stable.

  • Very beautiful house...!!

    Pratik2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time staying at Ben’s. The house was lovely, clean and comfortable, and so close to the most beautiful long beach where we walked in the mornings with our coffee and saw nobody. We especially loved being able to bring our dog, and Ben was kind enough to allow him to stay at the house while we went to Wilson’s prom for the day, where no dogs are allowed. He even took him out for a walk, which we so appreciated! All in all, it was the perfect few days escaping the city heat and winding down in nature.

Re-opening from the 1st of June 2020. Welcome to Cupid's Cottage! Located only 500m from Beach No 5 in a quiet, street in the second estate of Venus Bay, our private holiday house is family friendly and is the perfect retreat for those wanting to get away from it all.
The house has 3 bedrooms including; 1 x queen bed + BIR, 1x queen bed, 1 x double bed + 1 x single bunk beds + 1 x trundle bed (single), 1 x sofa bed in lounge room (double size). The kitchen is equiped with fridge and freezer, electric oven and cooktop, crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. Feel free to use any food from the kitchen but please replace anything that runs out. The combined living/dining/kitchen area is heated by both a split system and wood fire. Feel free to use the fire but you will need to bring your own wood (most service stations sell pre cut bags these days). We have plenty paper, firelighters and matches to help get you going. For rainy days there is a selection of games and puzzles as well as a large DVD collection. We also have a combined pool/table tennis table and dartboard. We have both front with sun lounge and table and chairs and a back decking with comfy chairs and a Webber BBQ to cook on. In the yard there is a large outdoor table and umbrella and perfect for enjoying time outdoors. Please note that we are on tank water so please keep showers short and use the water filter for drinking. We have a front loader washing machine and you will find laundry liquid and other cleaning supplies in the laundry. The outdoor shower, toilet and garden run on bore water.
Our house is located within walking distance of Beach no. 5 which is part of a 20km stretch of pristine surf beaches that front the waters of Bass Strait and are nestled within the foreshore reserve of the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park. We are 2 minutes drive to the jetty for Andersons Inlet which is a popular fishing spot. There are many walking tracks in nearby reserves and being quite flat, it is very easy to get around the area on bike. A bike share facility is available at the Community Centre located on Canterbury Rd. Wildlife abounds in the area. During the day you will see many bird species and at night you will see koalas, wombats and kangaroos. We highly recommend taking a night walk to the beach as the stars are absolutely brilliant when the skies are clear. We are about an hours drive from both Wilsons Prom and Philllip Island, making it the perfect spot to stay whilst exploring the South Gippsland coast. See the Visit Victoria website for more information on things to do in the area. (URL HIDDEN)

  • Cupid's cottage was a truly fantastic stay! My partner and I had such a lovely stay in this incredibly cosy and stylish cottage, making great use of the fireplace, fab array of records and plethora of board games. There was an incredibly well stocked kitchen with basic food bits, good coffee and utensils/crockery. Kat and Dan were incredibly swift and comprehensive with their communication and provided some lovely local tips. This was a great place to explore the beautiful local area and would highly recommend staying here!

    Stefano2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kat’s place was relaxing and a perfect beach weekend away. There’s basically no internet connection in the house, so a fantastic chance to unplug, spend quality family time in the backyard with the totem tennis, board games and the Nintendo was fun. The place was very clean and the beds comfy. I loved that bottled water was provided.

    Annie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place for a weekend getaway, hosts were great with their communication.

Welcome to Venus Bay! Only 2 hours from the heart of Melbourne, this beach-style cottage is set in the quiet first estate of Venus Bay. Come in, relax and settle down; let the beachside lifestyle hook you in from the moment you arrive.
This two-storey home features two bedrooms downstairs, along with a sunny kitchen and dining area. With a queen bed in the master bedroom, and bunk beds (with a trundle underneath) in the second bedroom, the house comfortably sleeps 5. Upstairs you will find a large living area with ample seating and a split-system air conditioner for year-round comfort. Attached to this space is a generous balcony, the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful views over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The covered decking area downstairs provides another dining area with a gas BBQ, as well as a dartboard and a couch. The property runs on tank water, we recommend bringing bottled water for drinking. We have a cot and a highchair available upon request.
Venus Bay is a lovely little community, and the main shops are just a short walk away from the cottage. Here you will find a general store, takeaway food, a cafe, pharmacy, surf shop and more. There are also some more shops and food options in Tarwin Lower, which is an easy 5 minute drive away. Venus Bay Beach No.3 is closest to the cottage, and is just a 10 minute walk away.
  • Very nice house in a beautiful part of the country. Great views from the upstairs deck. Really enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended.

  • Awesome place to stay in Venus Bay. Its very clean and comfortable with great verandas and balcony area. If you're looking to escape into the countryside I would highly recommend staying here. The entire place is amazing with everything you need and in quiet and relaxing area. Christopher is very accommodating (we booked the night before and got back to me straight away) and gave us full details.

    Sam2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This house is the perfect base for small families or couples visiting Venus Bay. Inside is very clean, with plenty of chairs to relax inside. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, microwave, coffee machine, kettle and toaster, stove and oven, also plastic bowls etc for little ones. The undercover area has bikes and seating for kids and plenty of adult seating, a bbq, dartboard and gas heater. We didn't use the washing machine or trough (handy for families) which is located with the shower, basin and toilet. Christopher was very nice and helpful before and when we checked in and replied quickly to messages and phone calls. The house itself is has nice views and the street is very quiet. A highly recommended property, I would definitely stay here again.

Our home is open to guests to enjoy at their leisure, it is comfortable and has a deck where you can sit out and enjoy the lovely views over the farmland where the cows sometimes come over to graze. It is a 15-20 min walk to the beach and if you are going to Wilsons Prom it is about a 35min drive to the entrance. It is about a 50 min drive to Philip Island where the motorbike grand prix is held along with other races over the year. Wild life can often be viewed around Venus Bay in the evenings.
The bedroom is a good size and has a wide screen television to enjoy. There is a separate area where guests can go to have a game of pool or to watch television over a cuppa, also a continental breakfast is served in the mornings to start you on your day. Access to the internet is also available.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe.

Nestled amongst the tree tops with an uninterrupted view of Anderson's Inlet, is The Boat House in Venus Bay. Built by a creative mind and artisan builder, this unique house has been crafted from nearly all recycled materials and has been lovingly furnished with pieces of nostalgia. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, surrounded by palm trees and native bush, there is a sense of tranquillity and that far-away feeling that is hard to describe until you've experienced it first-hand.
Soaring cathedral exposed timber ceilings and french doors and windows that surround the home give a sense of rustic majesty. Inside, there are three bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with a huge spa bathtub to relax into. There is also an upstairs loft that can be used for children to play, for a nap, or a good read. Outside, are covered porches on three sides and an observatory gazebo situated amongst the treetops that overlook the inlet. The ever-changing scenery and views of the wildlife that visit daily can only be described as magical. The house and experience are best enjoyed by an adventurous and like-minded traveller that appreciates things that are steeped in history and can marvel at the uniqueness and sturdy craftsmanship. If it's in your nature to gravitate toward quirky and unconventional, then this space could be an experience to remember and cherish for a long time to come.
The Area Located in Venus Bay's second estate, this property is approximately 1200 meters to beach 4 and beach 5 is close by as well. The boat ramp and Doyle's swimming beach are all within very close proximity. While other holiday destinations have become overly suburbanized, Venus Bay's second estate remains quiet, tranquil, and a nature lover's escape. Nearby, is Wilson's Prom, Inverloch and quaint country towns such as Tarwin Lower, Fish Creek, Foster, Meeniyan, Koonwarra, Korrumburra and Leongatha. Wineries and fresh produce are abundant in this area.
  • Staying at the boat house was like a breath of fresh air .. beautiful spaces, huge rooms all overlooking the inlet with cows and kangaroos at the back door Can not recommend staying here highly enough .. Jeanine is a kind and thoughtful host who goes above and beyond to make our stay comfortable which makes us love the property more .. there is such a wonderful connection between house and the environment around us .. it is the perfect escape

  • Our weekend getaway The Boathouse was an amazing stay. Communication with Jeanine was superb with our messages being answered within minutes and at all hours of the day. We were very impressed the exterior finishes of the boathouse, with many artefacts surrounding the landscape that suited the marina theme. The outdoor gazebo is one of our favourite features of the house – great views, unique and a good spot for brekkie. Everything looked clean and tidy indoors, with a large kitchen and stovetop fit to cook a feast. The high ceilings made the open plan living, kitchen and dining feel very grand, with 360° of the nearby landscape and fields. Bedrooms were very clean and tidy with everything provided for a cosy sleep during the colder weather. The beautifully preserved and spacious shared bathroom is connected to the master bedroom, but also accessible via the laundry for other guests. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, creating an ideal environment and a strong sense of privacy for us. Jeanine is a fabulous host and we cannot thank her enough for accommodating all our needs. Wish we could give her more stars!

  • This is a charming beach-side holiday home. Jeanine has been an amazing and quick communicator - going out of her way to make us feel comfortable and showing such kindness. She was flexible with our check-in and out times allowing us to relax. She provided some little touches (a bottle of red wine). The space has an old charm feel to its interior design and very homely. There were two points of feedback I let Jeanine know, the mattresses are very soft and for those who require more back support they may not suit you, and the house was quite dusty (which is not Jeanine's fault but due to the stunning location near the bay but something to be mindful of). Overall, this holiday home is a beautiful beach gem with truly exceptional views!

    Devaki2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Comforting, so well stocked and charming, it's a perfect place to relax and reconnect with a great group. The views over the inlet are stunning and we spent as much time as possible there enjoying the breeze.

The streets of Venus Bay are fairly flat and therefore great for bike riding if guests wish to bring their bikes. There is also a new bike track leading from Venus Bay along the Tarwin River to the next small town - Tarwin Lower. Being situated halfway between Phillip Island and Wilson's Promontory, Venus Bay is the perfect base for day tripping.

  • Great little spot to break the trip from Melbourne to Wilson's Prom. Local beaches a stone's throw away from Airbnb and the little village has a few great restaurants. (A little costly) Maybe only suggestion for unit is to have a small 2 plate stove, as we wanted to cook some eggs and bacon for brekkie. Very friendly hosts, thanks guys!

    Brett2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What you see is what you get and more. The beach is beautiful and is a shortcut into town if walking. The local pub is nice but I don’t recommend the 🍕. Live music was really nice! Geoff and Pay’s place was comfortable and I enjoyed reading all the it’s bits of wisdom on the walls.

    Meghan2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay, and all the small touches to the unit made us feel welcomed. The place is absolutely spotless and it was fun having a loft area to gaze out into the skies. Location is fantastic as well being near Venus Bay beaches and we had a great time going out in the morning just to watch the waves.

  • A very relaxed vibe in pleasant surrounds. The house has some lovely outside spaces to hang out in. Inside there are two decent-sized bedrooms and a generous living area plus the added bonus (for us) of a table tennis table. Plenty of games, books and DVDs too. The closest beach is Doyles Rd inlet which is great for a dog walk.

This recently renovated tiny beach-house is the perfect space for a relaxing trip away with everything for a couple or small family. Just a 2 minute walk from the beach & 5 minute drive from Venus Bay shops, cafes and bars. Property has a Large sunny deck with webber-style BBQ & an outdoor shower for the summer, & an open Fireplace for the winter. *Please read all of the descriptions before booking, is not 5-star accommodation and does not have all the features of a standard house.
This beach shack has been creatively renovated from a classic 1950s beach house using local and up-cycled materials. It is minimalist and for that reason, we have NO TV or Air Conditioning. We do however have plenty of board games and terrific walks in the area. You will enjoy fresh linen, two showers (indoor & outdoor), and a Webber BBQ if you feel like cooking. Pets are most welcome however there are no fences. *We have WIFI at the shack, however there is poor mobile reception at the home, Telstra is the only provider who (somewhat) receive signal **Additional Bed is a Futon couch ***There is no washing machine, no stove top , oven or microwave. It also has no blinds to let all that sunlight in
The house is a short drive from many national parks such as Cape Liptrack and Point Smyth Coastal Reserve, Wilsons Prom is not far also and Inverloch is just a short drive

  • We had a great weekend away at this lovely seaside cottage. It had everything that we needed to enjoy a quick break. The kitchen had basic essentials so you don’t need to bring everything with you. Lovely welcoming gift was an extra special surprise. The beds were comfy as was the couch. We used the outdoor fire pit and even roasted marshmallows. Great fenced in yard for the dog. You can hear the waves crashing from the backyard. Highly recommend

  • We just returned from the most relaxing weekend at Georgina’s place in Venus bay. Georgina had covered all the fine details that make a stay memorable - chocolates and wine on arrival which was a lovely touch, fantastic amenities (including an excellent shower, well equipped kitchen and very comfortable bed and pillows!), a generally lovely indoor and outdoor space and excellent local tips to help us make the most of our visit to the area. The location was absolutely perfect - we saw Kangaroos one morning up on the hill, lots of beautiful birds and it was only a short walk to the beach for a gorgeous morning walk with our dog. We could also easily walk into the town for breakfast or dinner. Overall a fantastic stay - thank you! We hope to be back very soon to this slice of paradise....

    Louisa2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

The home is in a great location - minutes to an amazing beach in one direction and then in the other direction you are right in the heart of the local strip of shops. The house is very clean and sleeps 8 very comfortably. We enjoyed some great family time - playing cards , watching movies , playing cricket etc. I would definitely recommend Georgina’s place to family and friends. Communications with Georgina and Paul During our stay were very timely .. Thanks so much for sharing this great place .. Joanna F

  • Debs house was such an amazing place to stay! Nice and close to the beach and the town. Deb was prompt in replying to every message sent and was very helpful. We utilised many of the extra amenities Deb so generously made available to us, such as the bikes, daily which included a handy bike bump and lock, the BBQ, monopoly and the extra goodies in the fridge and pantry that was left for us :). We would highly recommend Debs house for your next stay in Inverloch, we will be re booking :)

Deb was very responsive to communications and quickly sorted out a broken coffee machine for us. Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to be back soon.

  • Great location and place. Some great little extras too like toys for kids, do tell, and tourist info. Also included linen which a lot of places in Overlong didn't seem to do. Really great stay.

    Aaron2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely clean unit, close to the water. The shortbread and breakfast supplies were well received! Wish we could've stayed more than one night.

  • Deb’s Beach Break is fabulous! We stay in Inverloch on the inlet side each summer and this unit is by far a stand out for our young family. Location is superb; walking distance to town and the inlet beach (so close). The unit is well equipped for your stay and is wonderfully clean. We were delighted by the little extra touches - lovely jams, English muffins and cereal! Easy access and has a garage through to a lovely courtyard. Can’t fault Beach Break. Thanks again Deb.

FEATURED IN FRANKIE'S INTERIOR BOOK 'SPACES'! The Sugar Shack is a beach house with a difference – a vibrant place to play, relax & recharge. This unique take on the classic beach shack captures the essence of simple beach living, with all the modern comforts. The Sugar Shack is a place for the fun-loving and wild, who appreciate style, quality & the natural environment. Delightfully presented & only a short stroll to the beach, let the Sugar Shack bring out the adventurer & artist in you!
The Sugar Shack’s unique and bold façade – vintage pressed metal feature walls, port holes, spiral staircase – invites you to step inside and experience something a little different. Raw, yet finished. Creatively designed for functionality and style by the Melbourne-based film prop maker behind the famous Ghost Rider motorcycle. Up-cycled utilitarian objects, wood, metal and neutral tones, juxtaposed with strong colour and intricate pattern. A style that we’ve dubbed Industrial Zen. Factory windows salvaged from the redeveloped industrial zones of inner city Melbourne frame the majestic coast banksias and ever-changing skyscape whilst maintaining a sense of seclusion and privacy. Artistry is evident at every turn, from the delightful Japanese fabric bedheads to the salvaged doors that contrast exquisitely patterned amber glass with distressed paintwork. Vintage scooter becomes door runner, culverts become a staircase. Original artwork, vintage and industrial light fittings feature alongside retro and modern custom made furniture. The Sugar Shack is comfortable in all seasons. This two-story house has plenty of room to spread out in summer, and a cosy core where you can enjoy a movie, board game or your favourite LPs around the fireplace in winter. The main abode is elevated, consisting of a hip, warehouse style open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining, as well as separate bathroom and laundry, with oiled floorboards throughout. Upstairs are two unique double bedrooms – the Tiger room and the Aegean room – with bespoke Japanese beds, retro dressers and modern warehouse style bedside tables. Downstairs is a separate studio space, accessed externally, that has been fitted out to accommodate a second family, or as a haven for the kids. This polished concrete zone combines a queensize four-poster, bunk beds and a sitting area. And enclosed within is the beautifully decorated 1946 vintage caravan which provides a novelty place for the kids to sleep or a quirky nook to chill with a book. The Sugar Shack is a great space for couples, solo adventurers and families. It is most comfortable for 4–8 guests, but if prearranged, the indoor caravan, sofa-bed and futon can allow for sleeping of up to 12: •Bedroom 1 – QB •Bedroom 2 – QB •Studio-bedsitter – QB, 1 set of bunks (2 singles), futon (double) and sofa-bed (double) •Indoor caravan – king single Set to the rear of a large double-block, the Sugar Shack has a lovely, private presence. A Blackbutt deck at the front overlooks an open lawn with plenty of space to picnic, kick a ball and sit around the rustic fire pit. A hand-crafted traditional swing invites play under the shade of grand coast banksias. Beyond, native bush provides privacy and connection to the Cape Liptrap Coastal Reserve. Spend a quiet moment in nature or enjoy a coffee on the deck whilst watching the visiting kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and birds. Whatever your fancy, you'll find something to enjoy at the Shack. Special features and eco-credentials: We enjoy the art of cooking and appreciate quality. The Sugar Shack is kitted out with everything you will need to create your favourite dishes and relax comfortably, from Asko and Smeg applicances to quality mattresses and bedding: •Espresso coffee machine •Dishwasher •Washing machine •Wood fire •Reverse-cycle heating and air-conditioning •Smart TV •DVD player •Bluetooth sound system •CD player and radio •Record player •Outdoor sporting equipment and yoga mat •Board games, books and the latest Frankie magazine to curl up with •BBQ •Outdoor dining setting •Fire pit •Quality tea, coffee and basic kitchen supplies •Off-road parking •Doonas, pillows, mattress protectors, bed linen, bath towels and tea towels are provided •Outdoor shower At the Sugar Shack we aim to minimise our ecological footprint. Venus Bay, two hours drive south-east of Melbourne on Victoria’s east coast, is an undiscovered coastal destination. Tucked away on its own little peninsula, it remains the quintessential beach escape. Primarily a holiday town, its vibe is laid-back and friendly all year round. Venus Bay’s waters range from wild ocean surf beaches with stunning sunsets to the calm estuary and river system of Anderson’s Inlet. The Sugar Shack is in a fantastic location, nestled in vegetated sand dunes half way between these two areas (~1 km walk from each) giving you access to the best Venus Bay has to offer and allowing you to drift off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean. Nestled on a quiet back-street bounded by Cape Liptrap Coastal Reserve, the Sugar Shack offers great walking, bike riding, scenery and wildlife. The local village is just a short ride or drive away. Venus Bay is very much about losing yourself in the holiday flow, relaxing and forgetting what day it is! However, for those who want to get active and explore, Venus Bay and the surrounding region are home to endless outdoor adventure activities, cafes and restaurants, arts and culture and well-being services. We have gathered together a bundle of maps and information brochures at the Sugar Shack that will help you discover the best the local region has to offer. We've included some highlights here: •The broad beaches of Venus Bay are popular for swimming with their fine golden sand and the State’s longest sand spit. Venus Bay No. 1 Beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers during the summer months. Doyles Road beach, Anderson Inlet, provides a calmer option, ideal for families, and the sheltered beach and stunning views at nearby Walkerville is great for young children if the wind is up. •Paddling, surfing, body boarding and surf lifesaving are also popular at Venus Bay, with a Surf Life Saving Club based at Beach No. 1. Local equipment hire is available and surfing lessons can be taken nearby. •Cape Liptrap Coastal Park includes diverse habitats, from sheltered inlets to stretches of wild ocean. The best way to explore its beautiful scenery is on foot. Parks Victoria provide information on nearby walks ranging from the easy intertidal mudflat walk at Anderson Inlet, where you will see a variety of marine plants and animals, to the more challenging Point Smythe Walk through coastal vegetation. There are also great walks and hikes nearby at Walkerville (e.g., Lime Burners Walk) and Waratah Bay, as well as at nearby parks and reserves. In fact, if you are really keen, walks in the region abound. •Explore local heritage of the Gunai/Kurnai and Boonwurruny indigenous people and more recent history of the Cape Liptrap lighthouse, as well as natural geological history including metamorphic rocks and dune limestone cliffs with rock stacks. •Immerse yourself in the local environment and be intrigued by the flora and fauna of the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park. The unique peninsula environment, bordered by Anderson Inlet and Cape Liptrap, showcases a range of habitats, including coastal heathlands, threatened Coast Banksia Woodland and important wetlands such as the EPBC listed salt marshes. These habitats are home to animals such as the Powerful Owl and the rare Swamp Antechinus, as well as rare flora such as orchids and the coast bitter-bush. •Recreational line fishing is popular from the beaches, rocks and fishing platforms along one of Australia’s best fishing estuaries, with the area offering a large variety of fish. Pipi collection is also popular at Venus Bay. Fishing clinics are held at the Inverloch Angling Clubrooms. •Boating is popular in Anderson Inlet, where a launching ramp is provided at the end of Fisherman’s Way. Boats and kayaks are available for hire in Inverloch. •Venus Bay is perfect for bike riding. It’s quiet, undulating roads are particularly great for kids to ride. There is a bike track leading from Venus Bay along the Tarwin River to Tarwin Lower. If you are up for something bigger, check out other bike rides in the region such as the Great Rail Trail. Bikes are available for hire from Cross Over Cycle and Outdoor in Wonthaggi or may be borrowed for a small donation from Venus Bay Community Centre (including a groovy tandem!). •Dogs are allowed on Venus Bay Beaches No. 1-5, except between 9 am and 6 pm from 1 December until 31 March, and Doyles Road beach is used by dog walkers all year round. Dogs are permitted between Walkerville North and Walkerville South and between Waratah Bay township and Cooks Creek. •The Venus Bay Community Centre host kids activities such as paper plane competitions, movie screenings and craft workshops. Visit the South Gippsland Conservation Society and Bunurong Environment Centre at Inverloch for free hands-on activities, environmental education, dinosaur hunting at the dinosaur dig site and the world class shell and marine natural history museum, ride the bush tramway or take a ghost tour at Coal Creek Community Park and Museum, Korumburra, learn about volcanoes at Cape Paterson or pick up some Parks Victoria Junior Ranger sheets for self-guided activities such as beachcombing. •There are many great marine and national parks and scenic drives in the region, perfect for daytrips. Wilsons Promontory National Park showcases some of Victoria’s best beaches, scenery and hiking. Shallow Inlet Marine Coastal Park and Bunurong Marine National Park are also nearby – try the scenic coastal drive from Inverloch to the seaside community of Cape Paterson, fronting Bunurong Marine Park. •The Venus Bay Peninsula is an internationally recognised migratory bird site with some species traveling from Siberia to Venus Bay. Several bird hides allow visitors to enjoy birdwatching or visit the mangroves of Bald Hill wetlands (near Tarwin Lower, heading towards Walkerville). •Other activities in the region include golf (at Meeniyan or Leongatha), snorkelling, scuba diving (e.g., at Inverloch, Cape Paterson or Wilsons Promontory), kite surfing, chartered boat tours, laser skirmish at Inverloch or head to Phillip Island for a scenic flight. You could even check out the South Gippsland Tourist Railway to charter your own train! If you would like to eat out, Venus Bay and surrounds offer a variety of cafes and restaurants, and Gippsland is embracing an emerging foodie culture: •One of the attractions of Venus Bay is its low-key relaxed vibe. It offers a simple selection of local eateries including Pizza and Pasta, The Cavity, a licensed cafe serving tapas and fresh local seafood, Venus Bay Store and Café and Venus Loves Gelato. Music and theatre can also be found at locations such as Meeniyan and Foster. •For stylish furniture, homewares, clothes, accessories head to Inverloch (e.g., mookah studio) or Koonwarra (e.g., Storehouse), or on your drive down, drop in to San Remo, Kilcunda or Loch for more great cafes, and shops including antiques and homewares. •Soak up the country market vibes at Tarwin Lower (Monday public holidays 8:30 am – 2:00 pm), head to Kongwak for collectables, retro, vintage and second hand items (every Sunday, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm) and discover markets at other local townships. •Take art, craft, dance or drama classes at Venus Bay Community Centre or Moondani Art and Glass Studio, Koonwarra. If you need to wind down, relax and rejuvenate in your peaceful surrounds with: •Natural therapies such as massage, reflexology and meditation at Venus Bay (Venus Ecapes or Shambhala Health and Healing), Inverloch (e.g., Books and Massage at Inverloch) or Koonwarra (e.g., Adina at Koonwarra or Koonwarra Escential Therapies). •Indulge in a pampering spa or healing treatment at Venus Escapes or Koonwarra Day Spa. •Yoga is available in Venus Bay (Shambhala Health and Healing) and Inverloch (Yoga Keys). •Relax by the wood fire, read a book or watch a movie. The library supermarket at Inverloch has a DVD vending machine, and you don’t have to be a resident to join the Inverloch library, where a selection of DVDs are available.
  • A welcoming retreat in a great location. The right amount of quirky but with buckets of practical (like an awesome coffee machine). You need to be able to climb stairs to stay here but it was a treat to be among the black cockatoos in the trees just outside.

  • Such a charming beach shack! Decor was beautiful and the house was close to the main beaches that we could just walk over. Didnt really mind that there was no wifi out there so just local tv channels but plenty of board games and dvds to keep us entertained. Naomi was a great host and her communication was prompt and told us everything we needed to know before our check in! Sugar shack is an amazing place to get a group of friends together and feel connected, I definitely recommend!!

    Jesslyn2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place to stay, and the owner was fantastic to deal with.

    Boss2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn’t recommend staying here more. Naomi’s house was very nicely located in a quiet area of Venus bay near beach 5, had great amenities for a group that loved cooking, and she was excellent with her communication and allowing us flexible check in/out times. Place was spotless and had some great personal touches to the decor so we felt very at home, will hopefully be back!

  • What a beautiful beach shack! Stylish and well laid out. We loved the record player and the kitchen preparation space! A great space to spend a long and slow weekend. Thanks!

  • A stunning, unique and gorgeously polished rustic space. We loved our stay at the Sugar Shack. Naomi was super helpful and her cheery, speedy responses made our stay from booking to departure a breeze. Can’t wait to get back!

    Tershia2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sugar Shack is such a creative and wonderful place!! Every little detail, colour, shape, style seems to be picked with so much love. The house felt so cosy and welcoming. We had a great time, the property is incredible and so close to the beach and the reserve. There are so many birds and kangaroos around <3 Naomi was so kind to allow us a late check out, the communication with her was so quick and easy. Thank you for making our weekend away so smooth and memorable <3

    Daniela2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place “takes you away and lets you relax and unwind”. It’s a stylish space like you wouldn’t believe. The Sugar Shack has it all.

Cosy and charming best describe Lavender Cottage - the ideal place for a relaxing holiday - with or without kids or furry friend in tow. Its beautiful native garden opens to a walking track over the stunning sand dunes to Venus Bay's patrolled beach. It has room for 6 in two bedrooms and, while off the beaten track, is within easy access to Venus Bay's shops.
Our beloved Lavender Cottage has an open-plan living area with a oh-so-cosy wood heater for chilly nights (think hot chocolate, warm blanket and a good book...) and reverse cycle air-conditioning for those gorgeous but hot summer days. Throughout the cottage you will find beautiful polished Jarrah floors and large windows allowing you to enjoy the tranquil, lush native garden from the comfort of your bed as well as the two cosy sofas (watch the birds, the trees, day dream...).
What to do ᾧ Walk to the beach via Lavender Cottage’s own access path – simply follow the shells in the trees (though note that this is an adventurous 15 minute activity not necessarily suitable for young people or people with limited fitness) ᾧ Grab your boogie board and let yourself be carried away at patrolled Number One beach ᾧ Sit in Lavender Cottage’s lush native garden, listen to, and watch, the abundant bird life ᾧ Have a jump on the trampoline or check out our giant dolls house; read a book, play a board game or watch a DVD by the fire place ᾧ Visit the boat ramp in the 3rd estate, go fishing, play on the playground or simply admire the sun set ᾧ Get a new hair do ᾧ Enjoy the numerous out of town attractions/activities, including visiting the Inverloch Bunurong Environment Centre (27 km) to walk in the steps of dinosaurs, going on a tour of the Wonthaggi coal mine (38km), driving along the stunning Bunurong C oastal Drive marvelling at its rugged sandstone cliffs and sandy coves or visiting the iconic Wilsons Promontory (80km).
  • Incredible house! So adorable with the most wonderful garden. Particularly good if you’ve got a dog. Highly recommend

    Sherryn2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to stay somewhere that feels like home mixed in with a mini-art gallery and nostalgia, then this is it. It has everything that says 'relax' - games, books, magazines, movies, wildlife, outdoor seating, shade - as well as everything that says 'special' - art, flair, uniqueness, attention to detail, cosiness. You can even bring your furry friend to your holiday and enjoy it together. Recommend it, especially for families, and especially for families of young children - they will not get bored, I promise.

    Naomi2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Cute space, great selection of tea's, fun walking track to get to the beach and super cosy.

    Kate2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little hideaway. Brilliant for kids and therefore for parents. Lavender cottage was a great place to relax in! Thank you for having us!

    Melanie2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little cottage with lots of books and games and even a fun caravan for the kids to play in out the back! Also beautiful bush walk to beach!

    Emma2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lavender cottage is the perfect family get away. There's a most incredible kids' retreat built in the backyard and a secret trail from the back of the property through the bush and to the beach. Inside there is an abundance of toys, books, and DVDs to keep you entertained. It was dog friendly and all fenced off, with many undercover areas for our dog to go if it rained when we visited Wilson's prom. The outdoor seating and table looked ideal for a Summer BBQ as well. We will definitely be back!

    Amelia2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Nadja (and Noel) for you wonderful hospitality. I have not only recommended you and the house, but will be coming back again. Noel was wonderful - I had to go to the doctor in the morning as my back had seized up, and then I had a flat tyre on the way back and Noel was wonderful. He offered help and I was so impressed with how kind he was. Your house is beautiful Nadja, the different teas were a really lovely touch and my children, doggy, husband and I all enjoyed the hike to the lookout at the top of the backyard. It’s a hidden gem which I adored. My girls were so excited! Thank you - I can’t recommend you enough xo

Our place is close to the beach. 3 minutes walk to the most pristine stretch of sand (Beach #5). 10 minutes walk to the calmer Anderson Inlet. Close to boat ramp and National park. You’ll love our place because of the ambiance. The house is built on a double block with lawn and tea tree shrubs along the fence line. Verry private and plenty of space for outdoors activities. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
The house is single storey and sits on a slab. There are no steps and it is wheel chair friendly. The kitchen is well equipped even for gourmet cooking. The lounge room has comfortable sofas and a "saxon" wood heater. This makes the place really special even in the cooler season. One thing to note is that in the Venus Bay area, mobile phone access is quite limited. Therefore a short walk up towards beach #5 is required to make mobile phone calls or to receive internet access. The property is fully fenced and good to keep larger dogs in. For smaller dogs, there is a "dog run" at the back of the property, that keeps your fury friend safe.
Venus bay is an excellent location for all beach activities, swimming, surfing, sun seeking, fishing, kayaking. But it also offers lovely walks through the National Park, or along the beach #5 and Anderson Inlet, a more tranquile water front, ideal for joung kids to play in the sand, with very shalow water.
  • Bernies is an easy beach retreat with all the basics you need for a quiet break. Loved the central fireplace and lounging on the sun chairs outside.

    Joiana2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Was such a great location! The tranquility and privacy this holiday home away from home was fantastic. Would stay here again in a heart beat!! Thanks so much Bernie

    Sarah2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great cozy quiet get away

    Louisa2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • -Bernie's place is a very comfortable, home away from home, in a lovely, quiet, tranquil setting. Total silence most of the time. It had all the home comforts and the house stayed cool even on a couple of hot days. Great kitchen, comfy couches, comfy beds, screen doors to keep out flies, and a huge leafy flat block. It was only a few minutes walk from a beautiful beach. A great place for a very, very relaxing holiday. -Our fur babies enjoyed staying there too, but would have been able to escape through gaps in the decorative yard fencing. Bernie's place also has a roomy, fenced enclosure for small dogs in the back yard, which would suit our chihuahua cross who is plump and not agile, but not our agile cavoodle who has long legs and jumps high. We brought some extra doggy barriers which we added to the existing yard fencing to make a secure, outside area. Also there are double French doors off the open plan living space which could easily have a portable dog enclosure added off them in the yard. However, the laminate flooring, and spacious, open plan living area lends itself to house-trained dogs being inside so we would book this place again, and recommend it as a dog friendly house.

    Sharron2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house is really cute. The living/dining/kitchen area was perfect, with the fireplace making the centrepiece of the room. Close to the beach, had a great time!!!

    Alojz2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • You just feel comfortable here, very clean, everything you need is there. The location to the beach is perfect, you can walk until then. Highly recommended

    Angelika2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Bernie's place. Great, private location, clean and well set up with all you need. The coonara was lovely for the cooler evening and plenty of wood on site. We did bring our two medium sized dogs but found that they could easily step through the gaps in the outer boundary fence and could get out of the smaller enclosure in the back yard as the fence was not very high. It would be fine for smaller dogs. It was great for taking them for walks along the beach with the no. 5 beach only a short walk away.

  • Very clean and nice house. The kitchen equipment is really fantastic, as well as the laundry. Cookies and wine were appreciated! Prom is ~ 1 hour drive. Several close fishing spots. Thanks Drew!

'Banksia Views' is set in the heart of Estate No 2, Venus Bay and is a cosy family home. It is a retreat for nature lovers, artists and those seeking the delights of 'down time' in the regions to relax and re-generate. Available for couples and singles, (maximum 4) we present a simple but unique environment which will appeal to people of diverse cultural backgrounds and creative interests.
Welcome to 'Banksia Views' ... we hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay in our cosy home. This space is the perfect place for a quiet weekend retreat indulging in a range of personal activities including resting, reading, sketching, meditating, walking etc. The artwork you see around you has been done by us and our friends. We hope you find this an inspiring space to be in, sitting by the fire or observing the native wildlife in the back garden; if you are lucky you may spot our resident kookaburra having a drink at the birdbath in the morning or the neighbourhood wombat promenading in the evening. It does get chilly in winter in Venus Bay and the wood stack is under the carport for your use. Please keep the fireplace glass door closed at all times when the fire is going. You can adjust the airflow using the silver knob on the front. There are DVD's and books for you to use during your stay but please leave them for the next person. The AC will boost your temperature needs in either summer or winter, you just need to adjust on the remote control which is on the Indonesian trunk at the front door. There is a sensor light for the driveway which you can activate when you arrive by turning on the appropriate switch inside the front door. Please be mindful not to leave the external spotlight at the front of the house on during the night as it disturbs the neighbouring inhabitants. The kitchen is simple but well equipped for your cooking needs with a range of utensils to utilise for your culinary interests. The second fridge in the laundry is excellent for stocking up with extra provisions for your stay. The Venus Bay General Store has a very good range of grocery items and the IGA in Tarwin Lower is an excellent shopping spot en-route to stock up. If the oven is troublesome to light using the lever, just move the oven door slightly towards you and it will easily ignite. Venus Bay offers a unique combination of wetlands and beaches. No 4 Beach is a 10 minute walk from the house and is stunning however, if you want to go swimming, No 1 Beach is your preferred location as it is the only patrolled beach with Life Savers on duty. Caution at all times is needed, as is the case in all ocean beaches to avoid danger spots and rips. 'Anderson's Inlet' is 500 metres away from 'Banksia Views' and combined with its beautiful vista and waterways, the jetty and boat ramp enable easy access to a range of aquatic and nature lover's activities. You can see spectacular sunrises and sunsets from here and any of the local beaches. During your stay could you please assist us to keep our pot plants and garden alive by watering them with the equipment on the back verandah (watering can and hose) if possible; that would be most appreciated. However, in summer in Venus Bay water is not in abundance, so mindful water practices and conservation in all aspects of your stay is desirable. The pump in the bathroom is a reminder of this unique aspect of living in this area and will readily remind you of our connection to tank water systems as a lifestyle. We hope you have a wonderful stay at 'Banksia Views' and ask that you put your rubbish in the bins provided which are at the front left side of the house and put them out for collection on Sunday night if you are in residence or before you leave. Finally, please remember to NOT feed the wildlife - they have their own well balanced diet. Thank you and best wishes for an enjoyable stay in our home.
A peaceful and friendly environment with a uniquely quiet and serene neighbourhood. You will easily rest and relax here with no disturbances.
  • Margot was a great host. Her house was comfortable and tastefully decorated with art and retro furnishings and lots of nice thoughtful touches. Although there was reverse cycle heating and cooling there was also a wonderful wood heater all prepared and with a good supply of firewood which made the house very warm and cosy. Margot was immediately responsive when we had any queries. If you choose to stay at Margot's place you won't be disappointed.

  • Margot's place is quite serene and homely. It was clean and well prepared. Everything was well explained. It's a great place to have a getaway from the city. I will only say that on arrival, it would have been good to know that there is no reception (at least with Optus and Vodaphone) This made some activities a bit challenging...

    Rachel2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Banksia Views is perfect for a quite getaway from city life. The house is very tastefully decorated and has all the amenities you would need. The location is excellent. Venus Bay is quiet and relaxing and this place compliments it. The beach is about a 3 mins drive from the place. There are plenty of things to do around like walks and fishing. Margot has been excellent with the communications and accessible on email/airbnb throughout. Special mention of the backyard - if you are lucky to have a clear night, it is an amazing place for some star gazing. Please note that it might be hard to get phone network inside the house if you are not with Telstra, but you will get network outside the house if you are with other network providers - perfect when you want to keep away from your phone.

This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is split over two levels, providing the perfect space for a couple or a family/friends getaway. Architecturally designed and a sustainable home.
The region is full of great wineries, rugged coastlines and amazing produce. The home is a sustainably built home so it is super comfy with minimal requirement for heating and cooling, only 700m from the beach. The Cape Tavern is the local pub which has great food and drinks, usually doing live music on the weekends. There is also a local general store for your basic supplies and a fish and chip shop. Nearby is the town of Wonthaggi, only a 5 minute drive up the road which has every supply you will need for the stay. Stop by at Goshen Country on the way which is a beautiful farm gate selling their own grown produce. Inverloch is another trendy town nearby which has a couple of local pubs, wineries, cafes and great shopping. Cape Paterson has a number of amazing beaches to suit everyone. There is a main surf beach with lifeguards patrolling, along with a smaller bay beach filled with amazing rock pools to explore. Cape seconds is the closest beach, perfect for the more experienced surfer or swimmer, or to watch the most incredible sunsets in the sand dunes.
  • From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the amazing architecture of this beautiful house! There were so many things we liked about this place, it was completely stunning inside and out! The open planned kitchen/ dinning & lounge has a north facing aspect with plenty of windows which let in so much natural light and sunshine to keep the house warm. It was so nice to sit at the table looking out over the farmland at the rear with a cool breeze coming through the sliding doors. The fit out is top notch with Miele appliances and amazing gold trim on the tap ware. (even gold cutlery) The bathrooms were also very stylish with dark grey tiles and a massive shower head with a timber floor which I thought was a nice touch. The other thing that we loved was how quiet it was which allowed us to have great sleeps in the super comfortable beds. . This has been the most beautiful Airbnb experience! Thanks so much Reece & Steph, we will definitely be back!

  • Nice place that's only a short drive to Inverloch and Wonthaggi. Some nice paths to walk on in the Cape precinct. Maybe not close enough to water to walk to beach if you have kids and surf beaches nearby probably not ideal for kids either, but Inverloch shack bay rock pools are only 5 minutes drive away and good for toddlers/infants

  • Steph and Reece were fabulous hosts. Their Bungalow is fresh, clean, so very stylish, and modern while maintaining a high level of comfort. Lots to do in the area, and all the insider tips on what to do. So excellent!

  • Lovely, light and bright Scandi styled, eco house. Bathrooms are absolute show stoppers. The ammenities such shower wash, shampoo and conditioner were appreciated. TV, wifi and Netflix was an absolute highlight after a day at the beach. Beautiful living (great couch!) and kitchen space. Perhaps a few more cooking implements such as baking trays, fry pans etc would come in handy. Great for a family holiday. So cool on a hot Summer’s day. Reece is lovely to deal with and quick to respond. Thanks for having us!
