Places to stay in Tobercurry

Places to stay in Tobercurry
Tucked away in the unspoilt Ox Mountains it is the ideal screen-free place to ‘get away from it all’, where the only call is that of nature beckoning you to explore it. This hidden gem is an ideal retreat for nature lovers, artists, or a romantic break away. Be embraced by the four seasons, bird song in spring, buzz of bees in summer, amber colours in autumn and the dark sky in winter. Reconnect with nature in our back to basics Bed in Barn.
The Bed in Barn is a characteristic converted hay barn on its own 1 acre private plot. The hay barn with its arched roof on pillars was a common outbuilding on the Irish small farm and used to be a part of a 'small holding. Staying in the Barn will give you a back-to-basics experience. The Barn is carefully converted into a new eco-friendly accommodation, retaining the old 5 m high pillars and its 'barn' character. Take a stroll through the landscaped garden, enjoy the view on the valley and the mountains from your swing bench in the covered outdoor area, light a ciggie or make a barbeque without being rained upon. When you enter the Barn you step back in time. The rustic kitchen downstairs has a pantry with crockery and cutlery; a fridge, a toaster, a kettle, pots and pans and utensils to cook up a meal on the a wood fired 'old world' range. For a quick stir fry there is an electric hob. (Please note, NO OVEN provided). In the pantry you will also find some ingredients for a (basic) breakfast, porridge, cereals, tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, pepper and salt. From the kitchen a slightly steep staircase leads you up to the master bedroom ensuite and livingroom/bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a queens wardrobe, a chest and a wash basin. Linen, towels, shampoo and a hairdryer are provided. Situated between the bedroom and the living room, you will find the bathroom with a shower using rainwater heated by the range downstairs. An electric shower is standby to sprinkle a hot drop on you if the water from the range has gone cold. Then there is the spacious living room/bedroom with reclining chairs and a couch that can be converted to a single bed or a double bed. If needed extra beds can be added. From this room you can enter the (ensuite) bathroom as well. You can throw a dice on one of the board games or loose yourself in a book. We harvest rainwater to flush the toilet, take a shower, do the dish wash (left tap, hot water). Fresh drinking water (right tap, cold water) comes from our own well with its filtration system The main heat source is a wood burner (range) downstairs. It heats the water and the upstairs radiators. It is also the main hob for cooking - although an electric hob is available. Upon arrival you will get instructions how to light the fire in the range. Plenty of fire wood is at your disposal. We are happy to help you out on getting a fire going. On the roof 14 Solar PV panels are installed. It generates electricity and if there is a surplus, it goes into the Power diverter and will heat the water in the tank to provide hot water for the radiators and the shower as well.
The Bed in Barn is situated between Lough Easky and Lough Talt great for fishing and water activities. Tucked away in the heart of the Ox Mountains it is the ideal place for hiking, walking, cycling and horse riding. Cycle tracks and walking trails and loop walks run in the vicinity. Banada stables are nearby where you can explore the surroundings on horseback, Island View Riding Stables (between Sligo and Bundorran) offers also beach riding. If you are a surfer Easkey and Enniscrone is a quick drive across the mountain. Wild Wet Adventures offers water activities on a.o. Lough Talt or explore lakes etc by - guided - Sligo Kayak Tours . Awesome adventure tours offers kayaking in the Sligo/Leitrim area as well. The Atlantic Ocean with its sandy and rocky beaches and the Wild Atlantic Way are just 20 km from here. Pay a visit to Enniscrone seaweed bath, or go for a drive to Easky with its castle, natural swimming pool, take the coastal road to the old thatched Beach Bar and sandy beaches and dunes at Dunmorran strand. Further afield you can visit Carrowmore Megalithic tombs & Ceide Fields, Down Patrick Head (where you can see all various layers of rocks), Museum of Country Life and much more
  • The 'Bed in Barn' is truly magical! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left a smile never left our face. Ineke and Benjamin are the perfect hosts who made us feel like family. If you're looking for an escape back to nature and tranquility this is the place to go. We can't wait to return very soon!

  • Ineke and Benjamin were wonderful hosts. They gave us many useful hints, for activities in the Sligo area. The barn is very cozy and the fairy forest around it is great for a hike. Benjamin gave us an introduction into book binding that was really fascinating. We had a great time there and would definitely come again!

    Tobercurry, County Sligo, Ireland

Watergrove is a traditional Irish home which has been recently refurbished and updated. It is located on the outskirts of Tubbercurry, a small but lively town in the south of Sligo. It is only a 5 minute walk from the town's center and bus station linking Tubbercurry with Sligo town and also city's such as Galway, ideal for people who plan to see all that the West of Ireland has to offer. The bus route also links the town with Knock Airport which is located just a 20 minute drive from the house.
Bright, comfortable double room with separate en-suite shower room. A light breakfast of tea, coffee, toast and cereal is also included in the price.
  • Room at Kay's place might not be the most stylish but it is clean and the place itself is located very well in the village since you can easily walk to the stores and restaurants. The most positive thing about staying at Kay's place were the nice chats with Kay and playing with her cute dog. Kay was even so kind to prepare a warm breakfast.

    Juraj2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kay is a great host who is really enjoying meeting new people and showering them with care. And she has the most precious little Jack Russell terrier! The room is just like in the pictures and has a very nice, clean ensuite bathroom. The house also has a lovely garden and is conveniently located a 5-10 minutes walk from the Tubbercurry stop on the route of bus 64 (Galway <> Derry), which will also take you to Knock airport within 25 minutes. Absolutely recommended!

    County Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland

Our house is situated on the side of Knocknashee (The hill of the fairies) and offers gorgeous views of the surrounding county. Just 2 minutes off the N17 road, the main route of the Wild Atlantic Way, we are a popular stop off for weary travelers. The area provides peaceful, scenic views which are sure to leave a lasting impression. I share the house with my wife. Both of us are inviting and friendly but also provide a separate sitting room if you would rather your own space.
Our home is set on the side of Knocknashee, the hill of the fairies. Overlooking a valley you can see spectacular views, weather depending since it is Ireland. The hill behind our home is steeped in ancient history with recent archaeological work revealing settlements on top of the hill dating back 5,000 years. The views from the house include Court Abbey which is an old Friary dating back to the 1400's and only a few minutes walk on a lovely country road. The house Our home is a new build house which is modern, with very large spacious rooms. Two of the four rooms available are ensuite and there is another main bathroom which is counted as private as we ourselves have our own ensuite. There is an extra large living room / kitchen which is a common space with stylish, modern appliances and you are welcome to use all facilities available and help yourself to as much tea and coffee as you need to get you through the day. We also have a separate sitting room if people would like their privacy. Depending on the time of year you may be fortunate enough to get an opportunity to pet or even feed the lambs in the fields surrounding the house as my family have a farm nearby. Myself and my wife both work however we love hosting guests and want to do everything to make your stay memorable. You wont have to worry about sharing spaces with other guests as we do not book multiple bookings at once so you have peace of mind that you will have all private spaces to yourself and will only have to interact with my wife and myself.
The area is some of the most scenic in county Sligo. Neighbors are all friendly and helpful and provide an area that is safe for anyone, be it young or old, to adventure and get their hands dirty in the outdoors
  • Clive was great! Asked to stay as their place last second and he made it work. They live in the country and removed from the city. It was peaceful and removed from city life. I would recommend staying with Clive!

  • Clive and Hannah were great hosts. I had flexible check in time, house was huge clean and beautiful, and I had great time being their guest. Both Clive and Hannah are very friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. I will definitely come back when I am in the area again.

Whether it's a short stay or a time for you to relax and enjoy the delights of Sligo, our Cosy Cabin is the place for you. Close to Markree Castle, Coolaney for mountain biking, Strandhill for surfing, Benbulben for trekking and Sligo for culture, great restaurants, cafes and super traditional Irish pubs. We offer a comfortable and welcoming stay in a natural space with woodlands, meadows and a river to explore. You have complete privacy but we are close by if you need us for anything.
There is a fully working kitchen with hob, fridge with freezer as well as tea and coffee. Electric power shower in the bathroom. Hot water in kitchen and bathroom taps. There is an outside tap suitable for cleaning off surf gear and also mountain biking gear as well as a space to store and dry them. We built the Cosy Cabin with an emphasis on sustainability but maintaining comfort and warmth. So we have endeavoured to source reclaimed materials, upcycling, repurposing and reusing as much as possible. We have a rain water collecting butt for the loo which is plumbed directly to the cistern and we use "green energy" electricity. Recycling of rubbish and composting is part of how we live. We grow our own vegetables in our garden and polytunnel surrounded by fruit bushes and trees. Our free roaming hens provide us with fresh eggs and our bees keep us in honey. There is plenty of space around us, 7acres, but we are also so close to Sligo 20mins, Knock Airport 30mins, Markree Castle 7mins, Coolaney mountain bike trail 7mins, Strandhill 25mins that we can be anywhere really quickly. Its the best of both worlds! There is plenty of nature around at different times of the year to observe, from the heron catching fish on the river while the ducks are floating past, to all the little, and big, garden birds that frequent our garden. During the summer months the skies are alive with colourful dragonflies and damson flies while butterflies flutter by too. On clear nights you can star gaze, possibly able to see the Milky Way and the different constellations in the night sky.
  • What an amazing stay. A great location. Beautiful cabin. I was delighted to arrive and see some fresh eggs & bread & butter put out for us by our host. Tea and coffee facilities are great. The bed is so comfortable! The entire space is just great. Thank you!

  • Our stay at Aisling's wonderful cabin was just perfect. We looked for a little get away from Dublin and definitely found it. The cabin was sparkling clean and is filled with all the essentials and more. Aisling put a lot of love in the place, and we felt welcomed from the very first second. We even got surprised by self-made porridge bread, eggs from the hens that were running around the next day, and further essentials for a lovely breakfast. Not one thing we would have wished different - 5 stars out of 5 :-)

    Kathrin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was awesome and this place is the cutest place we had so far. We just stayed for one night but had all we needed. Aisling left some fresh eggs and porridge bread for breakfast. Close to the tiny house is a nice river and Sligo or Strandhill are just a short drive away. All in all perfect and we are looking forward to come back!

    Lena2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Could not recommend this place enough! Lovely little cosy gem in Sligo, close enough to Sligo city but you also feel completely away from the hustle and bustle! Quaint and gorgeous surroundings! Aisling was such a lovely host, we had absolutely everything we needed in the house. The personal touches made all the difference from the hot water bottles left to the fresh bread and eggs for breakfast! There’s a lovely little walk down to the river where it’s so scenic! When we come to Sligo again we will definitely be back!

    Katie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely cabin in lovely natural surroundings. Sparkling clean and Aisling left lots of thoughtful touches and was just wonderful. Great location for visiting Sligo, Strandhill and Caves of Keash

  • Great stay at Aisling, an exceptional adventure in a magnificent setting. Little cute touches, truly unforgettable!

    Lisa2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time. Such a lovely and peaceful place. Aisling is a great host and gave us a warm welcome on our arrival. The cabin is warm and cosy and the bed extremely comfortable. There are so many lovely touches in the cabin, Aisling thought of everything one could possibly need. We have stayed in many Airbnb places and this is definitely one of our favourites. I couldn’t recommend this little cabin enough!

As the name suggests, this property is a converted granary which is located on our farm. Escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a farm stay. We have sheep, horses, hens, two dogs, two pigs and two alpacas which can be seen on Quarryfield Farm Experience's Instagram page. Less than 2km from the village of Bunninadden. 8km from Tubbercurry.
The apartment shares a yard with the owners but has a separate parking area, which is signed once you get to our yard. Check-in is flexible but an approximate ETA is expected. Peaceful location, other than animal sounds. A large dog kennel and run is available if guests wish to bring their dog(s). Please let us know in advance. We can provide a place for you to dry jackets / boots etc and bike storage. As can be seen from the map, we are located in the countryside. Please don't decide to book a place in a rural location and rate us poorly on location in your review!
  • Our stay at the Granary was one of the highlights of our whole trip. The space was beautiful and a great deal and Kelly was so welcoming. The tour of the farm was outstanding and such a lovely way to start our day. We wish we could have stayed longer!

    Katharine2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly’s home was amazing ! Great location, not too far for Sligo, and the accommodation itself was great, even better than on the pictures !! Thanks so much Kelly, highly recommend it !!

    Délia2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience. The granary is spacious but also really cosy and homely. The hosts were always just a message away to answer any questions and more than happy to show us around the farm. All the animals were adorable and so friendly. Have stayed in many airbnbs over the last few years and this is easily number 1 for me. Can't wait to go back.

    Mark2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Granary is a fabulous place, cosy, warm and it has everything u could possibly need. Kelly the host is lovely and we were made feel so welcome, there were homemade heart shaped scones, homemade jam, fresh eggs from the farm, a bottle of wine and some locally brewed beers left for us on our arrival. Kelly informed us of events happening locally and there were brochures about the local area for further suggestions. we enjoyed our stay so much, it was a perfect valentine's weekend, we cannot recommend this place highly enough, Kelly excels as a super host and our review would not be complete without mentioning Marley and Bob, the happiest dogs we have ever met, who were also there to greet us on our arrival and wave us off today. We are looking forward to staying in the Granary again

    Cathal2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, secluded location. Perfect space for a chilled out getaway. We cooked christmas dinner in this kitchen and it had everything we needed! Great hosts with no disturbance. Would highly recommend!

    Yvonne2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our 2 and 7 yr old really loved the toys and the animals. Lots of great spots to check out nearby.

    Carson2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you'd expect and more! Great location in a beautiful county!

    Brendan2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had THE BEST time at The Granary, staying for three nights at the end of our honeymoon. It is a lovingly re-done granary that is somehow both bright and airy, and super cozy. We can confirm that the heating works well--locals were commenting how we arrived right as the whiff of winter arrived in the air, and Kelly made sure we were snug enough with the turn in weather. The setting was great, just as described, on an idyllic-feeling farm but also close enough to Sligo, Gurteen, Ballymote... plenty to do. They have obviously been working hard to connect with other local businesses, and provided GREAT suggestions just up our alley (Eagles Flying is a must for animal lovers! I held a FOX!) as well as some local beer to try in the fridge. Everything you need to know is in the listing, and it truly is NOT the place for you if you don't enjoy animals. But if you do, welcome to heaven! I woke up our first morning and ventured outside with my coffee, greeted by the simply delightful Marley and Bob, and ended up feeding al pacas some breakfast with Kelly, and meeting the pigs. Later, we asked for a farm tour and Kelly offered up--IF we wanted--the chance to help them dose the lambs the next morning. YES, PLEASE!!! So the last day of our honeymoon, we spent a few hours walking the farm, meeting horses, and watching Marley and Kelly gather the lambs (Bob "helps"/finds all the best fetching sticks in the area); then we got to hop right in with Gerald to learn how to handle the sheep and give them their doses. It was amazing, and the whole family was so, so friendly and very tolerant of us city-folk learning what to do. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, and if it wasn't our very last day, we would have stayed helping all afternoon! This is really a treasure in the area and we really, really hope next time we are in Co Sligo that we can stay at The Granary again. It will be our first choice for sure.

  • Stayed with my children and their Grandfather for two weeks and found the house, very accommodating for our needs with some thoughtful provisions left for us too. Super clean and refurbished to a high standard within. The house is in a quiet village but found everyone really friendly around us. Good base for trips to both Sligo and Mayo and a lovely walk towards the river, on a gentle road beside the house.

  • Very functional house, quiet location, and perfect to discover the surroundings of Killala and Balina.

  • Fantastic house with loads of space and all mod cons, ideal for a family stay. Mark and his family were only a few minutes away if we needed anything and they were very helpful. In a quiet part of the country but highly recommend as a base for exploring the area.

    Kevin2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mark’s place felt like home which was what we needed after a week in Dublin and other busier towns. The house was bright, sunny, quiet and very cozy yet plenty of space for four adults and three kids. The area is quiet and beautiful. We greatly enjoyed our stay here.

    Jennifer2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Mark is a great host, he responds very quickly, and is keen to ensure you have a great stay. The house is located in a lovely rural village, perfect when you want a quiet get away, but close to Charlestown & Tobbercurry. The house was really clean, spacious and airy, with plenty of room for the 7 of us. The garden is nice too, with mature apple trees, and views of cows enjoying country life in the field next door. There's a little pub across the road, ideal for a quiet pint. I would definitely stay here again, we had a great stay.

Hostess is available to assist, advise but will not be on-site unless breakfast/evening meal is required.
Tubbercurry-known as 'Tubber' among the locals has a 'real feel' of true Irish community 'smallish' town. It is the second largest town in Sligo county & only 20 min drive to Sligo town ( our largest town). It lies at the foot of the Ox Mountains and is set among six 'Great' lakes within easy driving distance: Lough Talt (5 min), Lough Easkey ( 10 min), Lough Gara (15 min), The Lake Isle of Inisfree on Lough Gill (20 min), Lough Arrow ( 25 min) and Lough Key, Forest Park (30 min). Remembering Yeats' famous poem, quoted by Leonard Coen at his Lissadell Concert: "In Memory of Eva Gore-Booth and Con Markiewicz" 'The light of evening, Lissadell, Great windows open to the south, Two girls in silk kimonos, both Beautiful, one a gazelle' ..........(Sublime!)
  • Lovely backyard studio in a quiet neighborhood. Breakfast is not included but she supplies coffee, tea, milk, and a toaster. the bed was very comfortable.

  • Bernadette is an amazing host! We felt safe and secure at her place. We traveled with a two and a four year old, and they also really enjoyed their stay. There was plenty of space for the four of us. Bernadette provided a breakfast tray which was placed in our room every evening, it helped to get our day jump started and kept the little ones satisfied until lunch. Check in was so easy, Bernadette was very accessible and kind. Bernadette was attentive to all of our needs and questions. The space is impeccably clean and has everything that you need in a studio space. We will definitely stay there again next time we we're in town, you should too! It is walkable to Tobercurry which has everything that you would need in a Town. It was also only a 30 minute drive to a beautiful beach. We loved every minute and we miss our Irish friends dearly.

  • I was looking for a private, quiet, stylish space for some quality downtime and Ber’s garden suite gave me exactly that. It is spotlessly clean and had all the necessary amenities. The bed was the definition of comfort and the smart TV allowed me to log into my personal account leaving me want for nothing. P.S.: The roads and view between Tobercurry and Ballina are recommended for anyone into cycling.

  • I really enjoyed staying at this place. It was cozy, yet more than enough room to enjoy. Everything was clean and although I did not have the chance to meet Bernadette, she was very quick to respond any questions and/or concerns. I would love to stay again!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Ber’s! The beds were oh so comfy and she suggested the Indian place in town (BYOB) For dinner. It was walking distance and to our surprise the best Indian food we’ve ever had! We decided to stay the night in Tobercurry for our Ireland road trip. The check in process was seamless and she has great communication. The water provided was also appreciated. Book her place!

  • A very friendly and accommodating host with a lovely place to explore the local area. It is very close to town for evening meals/drinks. We were recommended the local Indian and it did not disappoint.

  • Booked at very short notice, however Bernadette was very responsive considering the time of night. On arrival, unit exceeded our expectations and extended to tea coffee bread and cereals. Clean and reasonably located with plenty of parking immediatley available. Would definitely book again.

  • We had a lovely weekend. The breakfast provided was perfect. The place is quiet and it is a good place to spend a weekend. Bernadette answer quickly and very attentive.

  • Mary is a very accommodating host. Her warm fireplace and tea tray was the perfect thing after a long day on the road. Driving on the "other" side is tense. I wanted to experience the country and the quiet serenity of her farm was perfect. A wonderful breakfast was served in her beautiful kitchen. We felt like family and so enjoyed the visiting with her. We will gladly return.

Dermot and Monica's Ox Mountain Adventure Camp is a great spot that I would recommend to anyone.

  • I visited Dermot and Monica's Tree House with my 8 years old daughter and we had a very pleasant stay. The communication was prompt and they responses were polite and flexible. The location is absolutely breathtaking and the accommodation itself was spotlessly clean, cosy and well maintained. Waking up to the beautiful views from the tree house made us feel like we were living a fairytale! Monica and Dermot went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and we are very thankful for their hositality, their friendliness and for the beautiful memories we made at their three house. My daughter made a short video of the Tree House which is available at https://youtu.be/z0SGNChEXs4

Welcome to our cottage which has been restored with love. We hope you enjoy your stay. You are just a 20 minute drive from Knock airport. We hope we have thought of everything to make you stay a relaxing and memorable one. This area has new kitchen units, built in oven and microwave, electric halogen hob (amazing to cook on while looking at the views of the ox mountains), large fridge freezer and farmhouse table and chairs. The kitchen also plays host to the heating controller for which instructions are in the house manual. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery, toaster, coffee machine, kettle, slow cooker and contact grille. Everything you will need to cook what you want. Hallway: From the kitchen there is a hallway with radiator below coat rack perfect for drying off your outer wear. Bedroom 1 A nice size bedroom with a double bed, electric blanket, hot water bottle, chest of drawers, hanging rail, bedside lamp, hair drier, clock and towels. Beautifully laid out to give you a wonderful nights sleep. Bedroom 2. Outdoor Boot Room This area is ideal to wash down, clean and dry your boots, jackets cycles strollers after a days walk in the countyside. Drying hangers, washing machine, boot brushes, running water(outdoor tap). Fuel for the fire is stored here, but please do replace what you use for the next visitor. The manual tells you where to obtain the coal and turf for the fire. Local Amenities: The local shop is 3 miles away. There is a 4G connection. The best way to achieve this is to hang out of the bedroom window while admiring the beautiful view. Alternatively you could go to the pub and enjoy their free wi-fi over a Guinness. Safety: There is a smoke detector in the hallway, a heat detector in the kitchen and a carbon monoxide detector in the lounge. These are complimented by a fire blanket and extinguisher in the kitchen along with a first aid box. Head lamps and High Viz jackets if you want to walk in the dark (please use).
You are situation in an excellent location just 15 to 20 mins from knock airport and not far from any of the main tourist areas. Locally there is a golf course in Tubbercurry and visitors are most welcome. The river Moy is only a short distance from the cottage which is know as one of the finest rivers in Ireland for fishing. The tourist information in town will point you in the right direction for permits etc. Pony Trekking is on the outskirts of the town at Banada which is steeped in history. (Ballina road R294) Tubbercurry is a vibrant little town with a good selection of places to eat and drink. Keep an eye out for traditional music nights in the local pubs, they will give you the true flavour of this unspoilt region. If walking is your thing you are so spoilt for choice we recommend you buy a guide, there are lots of leaflets in the cottage to direct you. The walks are out of this world. You may want to walk the Ox mountains (lots of trails), Lough Talt (walk around the lake), the list goes on. The beach at Strandhill is about 25 mins drive and plays host to some of the finest surfing in the area. Surf schools are also available locally should you wish to learn. Other beaches are dotted along the coast including Inniscrone (what a drive through the mountains to get there) a must see. Lough Talt : 10 mins drive with lots of fishing and water sports. Lough Easkey: 20 min of a spectacular drive to this amazing part of the world, with Mass rock and adventure park. Lough Gill: 30mins Head for Sligo town and along the winding roads to Innisfree (WB Yeats) Dromahair, Parke Castle and Lough Gill boat trips. From here you can head to Glencar waterfalls (the Stolen Child WB Yeats). Westport: Slightly further a field (45mins) you can head west to the upbeat town of Westport where you can follow in the footsteps of our patron Saint Patrick and climb the mountain named in his honour. The view from the top is out of this world! I recently drove from Westport to Leenaun, please do this drive OMG amazing!! Galway is an hours drive away and well worth a visit. Knock Shrine is also nearby just 20 minutes the other side of the airport. This again is a ‘must visit’ destination in this part of Ireland. To sum up, if you want a holiday in a traditional part of Ireland that lets you unwind and take things at your pace, this is for you!! There is so much to see and do in this area that one visit will not be enough.

  • Staying in this lovely Irish cottage in the Ox Mountains was stunning and amazing. The turf fire, mountain views, fresh air, and peaceful presence of sheep are truly lovely. Dermot and Monica and fantastic hosts - always helpful and welcoming. The cottage is 200 years old and made primarily of stone, so set your expectations accordingly. Our family would definitely stay there again!

    Alana2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing setting Dermot and Monica’s place is. We loved our three day stay, it was a brilliant base to explore from. Dermot couldn’t have been more helpful, we felt welcome immediately and it felt like home away from home. The personal touches - turf fire lighting on arrival, tips on where to shop and eat, fresh eggs delivered for breakfast were really appreciated. We will be back, the kids loved it! Thanks, Ray, Sinead, Siena, Cameron and Addison.

  • If you are looking for real hospitality, and a chance to get away even if you are from the area, this is your place! Dermot and Monica were absolutely wonderful! To say they were welcoming would be an understatement! We couldn't have asked for a better stay with them! They were very thorough with a tour of the property and the other little spaces they have available. The tree house was so cozy and welcoming! There were even fresh eggs from their hens! My kids loved it! Be aware, you will not have service up in the tree house! And we had no issue with that. It was nice to be away from all of the hustle and bustle of our trip and relax! Their kids were so sweet and kind with my kids as well. My kids adored Sinead! She was even sweet enough to come over and get them while we stayed at the cottage on the other side of Ox Mountain so they could go and play with Hunter, the sweetest dog EVER, and a couple of other kids staying on the property. You are treated like family by them immediately! They were so quick to make sure everything was okay and showed us how to work everything in both properties we stayed in with them. We definitely will be heading back to see them again! Thank you for a great stay Dermot, Monica & fam! It is one for the books and a fantastic memory made for my kids that they are still talking about!

  • Dermot and Monica are truly the most wonderful hosts. They make everything so comfortable and easy, nothing is too big or too small. This is my second year staying at the bunk n barn and its gotten even better. As someone organising a bonding trip for a student society, the "digital detox:=" element was great because we really did have more than enough to be entertained. The views of mountains and Lough Easky are beautiful, and myself and the rest of the group couldn't recommend the bunk n barn more.

    Hannah2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Dermot and Monica were amazing, so helpful and friendly. The barn was great, and the site was in such a beautiful part of the country. We'll definitely stay here again.

  • Owner is friendly and kind I recommend this accommodation

    Akito2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Dermot and Monica are absolutely wonderful people and excellent hosts. Their Bunk n' Barn is clean, spacious and warm, there was more than enough room for our large group. The facilities were brilliant, we used the campfire, the group activity games and we spent plenty of time sitting beside the stream that runs through the property. The surrounding area is magnificent with plenty of hiking trails and a nearby lake that was great for swimming. I have to rate this place 11/10, it was exactly what we wanted as a large group of college students. Dermot and Monica were more than happy to let us relax and do our own thing, and happily joined us around the campfire a few times. I'd highly recommend the Bunk N' Barn for groups of college students. Thanks once again for a fantastic weekend.

  • The stay was really comfortable. The entire home was excellent in condition and warm enough. Eilis is really a superhost, all amenities are exactly what is explained in the description. Spent two amazing days with friends.Highly recommends who wants to explore co. sligo and Mayo.

  • We loved our stay here. Unfortunately, it was only one night on our way down south, so we didn't get much time here. We didn't arrive until pretty late in the evening but Eilis was there to meet us and show us around. She is super nice and gave us some tips for food places that were open late. She also had cereal and a fridge stocked with basics for us. So nice. The house had plenty of space and beds for our 5 person group. This is the only place we had privacy the whole trip. It's in a super quiet area too.

    Destiny2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice, clean and fully equipped house suitable for larger groups or families. We were pleased that Eilis allowed us to stay at her place. Definitely recommend.

  • We stayed at this property while attending a local event. The house is well furnished, warm and extremely clean. The hosts are amazing. The communication was quick and easy. The personal welcome was greatly appreciated. A really great touch was having the fires lit on our arrival as the evening was extremely cold and wet. My group all said the house is cosy, warm and all had a great nights sleep. Cannot recommend this property enough. The only downside to the property is you really need transportation. Thank you for everything.

Situated within the fold of the ancient Ox Mountain range with stunning views, vast history and a rich array of wildlife the Ox Mountain Shepherds Hut is a unique living experience and the ideal choice for lovers of the outdoors and seekers of quirky accommodation. The Hut itself is roughly 8 miles from Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.
****If this property is booked for the dates u wish to stay are alternative property's are :* https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/26081323 ( ox mountain cottage) https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/13560063 ( ox mountain lodge) https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/19047571 ( bunk n barn - ox mountains ) The Ox Mountain Shepherds Hut is a truly unique living experience away from modern day life. Our beautifully restored, genuine original Shepherds Hut simply contains the minimum needs of shelter and warmth. The space is made up of a single open room housing a comfortable sofa which folds out to a double bed at one end of the Hut and a double storage press with worktop area at the other side of the Hut. In between both and under one of the windows we have a fold out table area where you can enjoy your meals with a view. There is also an electric space heater. The exterior of the Hut has extensive grounds for camping and a picnic bench is provided beside the Hut for you to enjoy outdoor meals or drinks. The Ox Mountain Shepherds Hut can sleep 2 on its fold out sofa, extra guest sleep beside the Hut in tent accommodation, ideal for family's who want a safe enjoyable camping experience with a little extra comfort provided by the Hut. **We can provide a 4man tent at an additional cost of 15euros per person**. We do not supply sleeping bags. Shepherds Huts date as far back to the 15th century where on continental Europe they where used to house sheep farmers and other workers on assignments that took them away from their homes. The sheep farming tradition of using the Huts continued into the early 20th century in Scotland the U.K and Ireland. Modern industrial farming saw an effective end to the use of the Huts and today very few originals remain making your stay a truly unique and we hope special experience. The Shepherds Hut has power, lighting and heating but no running water or bathroom. To accommodate this the cabin directly beside the Shepherds Hut houses a single toilet and kitchen sink area. This Cabin also contains an electric kettle, toaster, a gas camping stove and a BBQ for you to prepare and cook your meals. (BBQ must only be used outdoors, please ensure you locate the BBQ on a stable and level area before lighting, we suggest beside the Huts picnic bench) For the more adventurous chiefs our campsite fire pit sits adjacent to the Hut and can be used to cook at or to simply share camp fire stores under the stars. The use of services can also be availed off in our bunk'n'barn building which houses 2 toilets, 2 wash hand basins and an electric shower. The building also contains a kitchen area and solid fuel stove for drying any clothing or gear. The water from all our kitchen taps is safe for drinking and comes from our very own mountain spring providing us with crystal clear invigorating fresh drinking water.
  • We stayed in the Shepard’s hut and it was exactly what we were looking for! The place was quiet, clean and warmer than expected with the electric heater! Dermot and Monica were incredibly helpful and responsive to any queries I had, also their dog hunter is an added bonus!! The new tree house looks amazing and we are already planning our return visit!

  • An experience of Ireland at it's best. Kind hospitality and great surroundings. The Shepherds Hut felt like I was really up in the mountains.

  • The whole property is wonderful. It’s obvious that Dermot truly cares about the place where he lives and hosts. Very thoughtful and intentional touches throughout.

  • Dermot ,Monica and there family make a really big effort to make your stay enjoyable. The entire family sat with us around a camp fire roasting marshmallows and chatting . The archery lessons by Sinead were really great. We really enjoyed our short visit and will return one day. Thank you so much.

  • I choose Monica and Dermots place because it was off the grid. This place is amazing! It’s so serene and relaxing. There is no WiFi but you won’t miss it! The Shepard’s hut is small but comfortable. I slept well despite the non stop rain. I would stay here again in a heartbeat

    Erin2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay with Dermot and Monica. The shepherds hut was fab. My kids really loved it. My family and i often go camping. However on this occasion my wife wanted something a little different. She was absolutely delighted when she realized she was sleeping in the sheppards hut and not with me and our three little boys. Dermot's Shepard hut was magical. Its obviously just been lovingly restored. We had just read "Danny champion of the world" and my kids were convinced that this was the very same hut as is in Roald Dahls book. We pitched our tent built a campfire and sat on the steps of the hut telling stories and singing songs. We went for a beautiful forest walk and a drive around Loch Easkey This was a perfect family adventure. The Shepard's hut had a pull out bed, small electric heater, table and chairs. Its very compact but my wife and two of my three boys slept soundly that night while i and my oldest slept in the tent under the stars. Dermot and Monica we'll definitely be back!!!!!!

    Dave2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived a few minutes early ,to be greeted by Monica whom showed me the well serviced kitchen and wash area before we stepped into the warm and cozy shepherds hut , a truly beautiful space to view the exquisite mountains and country side as well as take in the peace and tranquility. The place was spotless with ample clean bedding. I had a fantastic nights sleep ready for my onward journey. I must say a better welcome from Monica and Dermot you could not receive any where in Ireland . I will come back next year and bring the wife and children and the children can camp in a tent next to the shepherds hut. Thank you Guys.

  • We stayed at Stefs house as a couple with our dog. If it's a taste of the rural, charming, friendly side of Western Ireland you want then this is the place for you. A very dog friendly, lavishly furnished, comfortable home that is just that. a home. You'll want for nothing as Stef will give you your own space to enjoy your stay but never be too far away should you need guidance on the local area or beyond. The pub is 50m up the road and is a great bit of fun. The local village has all the usual amenities and is only a half mile away. If in the area again, this place would be first on the list without question! Thanks Steff and Ena.

My house borders South Sligo and East Mayo outside Charlestown, 15 mins walk away, 15 mins drive from Ireland West Airport Knock - 20 mins from Knock Marian Shrine on the N17 Sligo-Galway Road and on N5 Westport to Dublin route. It is 1.5 hrs from Northern Ireland, 45 mins drive from Sligo City or Westport - Ihr from Longford and 2.5 hrs from Dublin and 1.15 hrs from Galway. My Eircode is F12H344. It has underfloor heating throughout from 1 October onwards for a cosy getaway from it all.
For an extra charge of 20 Euro per night:- There is a double pull out bed in the Sunroom making it possible to easily accommodate a group of 8 people. For no extra charge: I also have a camp bed which would suit a child under 5 - 7 yrs. In addition, I have a travel cot for a young baby/infant.
My house is on the outskirts of a Meadow (hence the name) - it is in a small cluster of three houses - two of which are in view but at a distance giving the perfect feeling of privacy but not too daunting for city people! Depending on the time of year, you might see rabbits, pheasants etc and feel very much part of nature. The sun sets over Nephin mountain giving some photo opportunities with an expanse of bog in the forefront.

Fiona was really accommodating checking us in and out, she called into us the night before we left to see how things were. She was really friendly and helpful. She also gave us really accurate directions so there was no hassle finding the house. Great hospitality.

  • I've had a tour of Ireland in August '18. I followed with my girlfriend and other three fellows the Wild Atlantic Way from Dublin to Donegal booking only Airbnb houses and I had the chance to see many. At the end of my journey I can tell with no doubts that Fiona's was the very best. The house was perfectly clean (and I found out that she cleans all the house by herself) even if is quite big. Is provided with everything we needed and the price was absolutely fantastic compared to the other houses we booked. The only thing that could be a problem is the distance with the city center of Charlestown (a couple of miles away from the house), so I suggest to be car provided. But just about this I have to say that the most wonderful surprise was Fiona's kindness. We arrived at the house after 9pm after a long journey and see was just supposed to welcome us and give us the keys. We had already returned the car we rented so we couldn't reach easily Charlestown to eat something for dinner and she spontaneously offered her help bringing us to the town with her own car for free so that we could get at least some take-away pizzas. She waited out the pizzeria for 20 minutes and then she drove us home. A very nice lady and a very nice house. Absolutely reccomanded.

It is a great location for anybody looking to see the sights in the area like Benbulbin, Keash caves and Carrowkeel. It had everything you need and there were some lovely welcoming gifts upon arrival. We loved staying here and will certainly be back.

  • Vincent and Bridie have a beautiful place to share. Everything is brand new. The rural scenery is everything you could ask from an Irish Airbnb. We enjoyed the quiet, the full kitchen, the attention to details and our comfort. Vincent and Bridie loaned us a dozen (yes-12!) books on local Irish history and sights to see. There was so much we wanted to do and wish we'd have had more time for. They are attentive and very kind people.

  • A great standalone modern cottage with full kitchen facilities. A lovely collection of items in the pantry to make breakfast and a hot drink. The wood burning stove I imagine will make it feel cosy in the winter although we didn't use it. There is a nice seating area outside as well for those summer days and evenings. The host and his wife are friendly and helpful. A great place to stay and relax.

  • A lovely lodge style accommodation with beautiful surrounding views. No wifi, and spotty mobile signal made for some truly 'off line' time which was great. The whole place is well equipped, although there is no oven, there is a gas hob, so we were still able to cook fresh meals in the evenings. A warm and cosy cottage, perfect for a break.

  • Caitriona and I had a lovely stay with our two kids. It was everything thing we were looking for in a country escape. The location is beautiful and the lodge had everything we needed, particularly the lack of Wifi and phone signal. It’s the ideal place to relax and detach yourself from the frenetic pace of city life. We were looking for peace, tranquility and adventure and we got that in spades. It was great to able to let the kids run free and they especially enjoyed their time with Hunter the dog and playing with the chickens.

  • Get off the beaten path, and go to this place. It's WONDERFUL. Beautiful location in the Ox Mountains. Dermot couldn't have been a friendlier and more responsive host. Wonderful dogs on the property. One joined us on our hike to the top of the ridge for 360 degree views of the area. Just lovely....

  • If peace, tranquility and proximity to nature is your thing, then we would highly recommend this venue. Had a great time; loved Dermot and Monica's place and the general area. Found lots to see and do in this hidden gem of a location and would certainly like to visit again. And by the way, Dermot is some character.

  • Dermot and Monica are two wonderful people. We have felt at home from the first moment to the last. They have been very welcoming, very close, great conversationalists, and they have proposed ideas for our trip through Ireland. They have been especially affectionate with our little daughter, who is delighted with everything she has been able to do on the farm. We also had fun doing archery. The instructor is great !! The great cabin. We slept very very well. I hope to return one day to stay a long time in this wonderful place. Thank you, family ❤️

A luxury weekend escape along the Wild Atlantic Way! Set within a secluded riverside property. Very tranquil and the perfect place to recharge. Only 5 minutes from Collooney and Markree Castle and 20 minutes from the beach at Strandhill! The decor is light, airy and very comfortable.
County Sligo easily boasts one of the most appealing stretches of coast on the Wild Atlantic Way. From its delightfully surfable waves crashing on broad golden shores to the rolling green hills and misty mountaintops of the affectionately dubbed ‘Yeats country’, this is a county that attracts a distinct breed of adventure-loving traveller.

The house is quaint, clean and located in a very calm and peaceful area that is not far from Strandhill beach which is beautiful. The bedrooms and living area were very comfortable and the views from the house were really lovely, particularly in the morning. We had a very relaxing weekend and Tara was quick to assist us with anything we needed. We will certainly be back again! Thanks Tara

  • A great Airbnb! Beautiful location to explore Sligo from. Tara and Alex were lovely hosts. The Little House is finished to a very high standard and is super comfortable with amazing beds, a generous welcome pack of food and everything else you could need. One of our favourite Airbnbs, we hope to return again!

    Laura2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely lovely little cottage. Really nicely decorated, very homely and comfortable. Tara and Alex could not be more helpful, communication was proactive and very easy. The cottage itself is immaculate. Would highly recommend this cottage as a base for anyone looking to explore Sligo.

    John2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely brilliant stay at the little cottage. The cottage is just fabulous. Beautifully finished and Tara has thought of everything. We arrived to a stocked fridge and other bits and pieces waiting on us. The home made granola was an absolute winner with my whole family so much so we had to ask for the recipe. The location is excellent for exploring this area and Tara/Alex had lots of suggestions for places to visit which was really helpful. It’s also such a peaceful location so lovely for relaxing too. I absolutely want to come back for another visit to see all the things we didn’t get to explore on this visit. I would love to live here actually lol

  • We loved our stay in Tara's house. It's an absolutely beautiful house in a quiet, serene setting. We'll definitely be visiting again!

    Gary2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The house is spotless and airy. It's fantastically convenient for the open country of the Ox Mountains and the drama of the Wild Atlantic Way but also for Knock Airport. Although the house is right on the N17 it's surprisingly quiet and Curry itself has a church, a pub and some pleasant walks along the river bank.

    Frank2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely unit, easy to find right off the main road yet still quiet. Across the street from a lovely pub, walking distance to a very nice restaurant.

    Michael2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This home in Curry, Co. Sligo is amazing. Very clean and spacious. It was perfect for our trip. Spacious rooms, kitchen was perfect and the washer/dryer was a great amenity. The house is located in a small cute village with a shop and pub across the road. Also Yeats Inn and Pub is within walking distance. The home is on the N17 and perfect for day trips. We traveled to Knock, Castlebar, and Westport with ease. Also there are lots of places in Charlestown or Tubbercurry to shop and eat. The people in Curry were do friendly and welcoming. Go into Howley's Pub and meet some wonderful locals. We will be back and highly recommend Seamus' house.

    Alana2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Seamus provides a spacious, modern, clean house in the small, friendly village of Curry. It is close to N17 with good access to Sligo and Mayo Counties. Although we were here for business we enjoyed walking near the local river. There is a small store and pub nearby.
