  • I really enjoyed my stay here. The place is very relaxing and warm. Jason is a very responsive host. I would definitely stay again.

  • Place was very nice, beds are very comfortable. Neighbors kept to themselves, and have goats and dogs that occasionally roam into the yard. The goats are very friendly. I only spotted the wild hog once, best bet was to wake up early, like 7 am to see it. The house is close by Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway so theres lots to do. It was a great stay here and I hope to be back.

  • Very nice home had an amazing view

  • We had an early Thanksgiving with our son and family, 2 children 5 & 6. The weather was poor the entire weekend, but there is plenty to do in the house for a couple of days to keep them occupied. There area is fairly rustic, quite beautiful, even in the late fall. The house was clean, the kitchen stocked with cooking equipment. The television was surprisingly good for the location and the internet was fast. Very comfortable for six, stretch for more.

  • Jason's Bedford home is lovely. It is centrally located but remote and private. The check-in is hassle-free and on your own, and the home is lovely. There are games, books, a TV with Netflix, etc. and the bed (master bedroom) is very comfortable. The host was gracious and communicated with us very well. We will definitely be back!

  • We had a nice restful stay here. The host Tracy was super friendly and hospitable. The house was pretty easy to find and located in a very pretty location. The view was really nice. Very clean and comfy. Appreciated all the little touches and decorations. Just a warning to those that might depend on wifi for work etc the wifi was a bit spotty so a video call wouldnt be doable. But overall a lovely stay.

  • The moment we walked in we felt very welcomed. The place had a nice and warm feeling to it, and we felt very safe. When we first pulled up it was completely quiet outside, and there was something amazing about that. The landscape surrounding the house is beautiful, and would definitely reccomend driving through the mountains nearby. Tracy was a very hospitable host, and she accommodated to all our needs. Everything was sparkling clean, and we'd love to stay here again someday. We definitely, without a doubt reccomend staying here!

Calm, quiet part of Bedford. My girlfriend and I live here, and we can advise you on everything there is to see here in our hometown! Located close to the D-Day Memorial, walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants, and ~20 minutes from the Peaks of Otter. You are welcome to share the kitchen and cookware, along with our living room and the fire pit out back.
Located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of downtown Bedford! What's nearby? Food Lion, Walmart, Burger King, El Cazador Mexican restaurant, and other shopping! Only 20 minutes from the Peaks of Otter!
It's nice and quiet in our neighborhood. Our neighbors keep to themselves but are friendly! We love sitting outside to watch the stars and chat by a fire.
  • Nice place in Bedford. Quiet most of the time, close to a grocery store and other shops, and a good amount of nature around also. Aaron has nice set up, especially for the price. All basic appliances are provided besides a dishwasher but that wasn’t an issue since there is enough counter space to wash and dry dishes. Internet is fast there and I never had an issue with cell reception either. Overall, I enjoyed my stay in Bedford and Aaron was an accommodating and helpful host.

These are not luxury accommodations, but if you are looking for a homey atmosphere set in a tranquil location, this place is for you. You will be sharing our home with us and our pets - two well-behaved dogs and three cats. (Pets are not allowed in guest bedrooms.) As you can see from pictures, we have one hallway that still needs to be finished. We hope to finish it before the first guests arrive.
Don't expect luxury. There might be dust. There will certainly be laughter, silliness and people/pets moving around the house.
What makes our neighborhood unique is that there is no neighborhood. We are 4.8 miles from VA Route 460 adjacent to Jefferson National Park. We cannot see our neighbors.

  • Wonderful stay! So relaxing the bed was fantastic, slept so well! The house was beyond quaint, and the area is beautiful!

    Sarah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to get away, a place that is peaceful, a time to refresh before getting back to daily life this is it. Honestly we are very much city folks but this was one of the best stays we have had. The peacefulness is evident the moment you enter the driveway. You will be glad you came. On top of that if you need someone to sit with, listen and bounce ideas or life situations with then Christine is available for that. Even if you just love the idea of someone praying over your stay this is the place. We left so rested and refreshed. I sat outside by the pond for 2 hours one morning and listened to birds, I saw many animals including a wood pecker, a blue herin, cardinals and blue jays, and many others, also 2 herds of deer, and another herd of something I couldn't quite make out. I can't recommend Sanctuary enough. We will be back!

    Jessi2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The sanctuary surpassed all our needs and expectations. Christine goes above and beyond with her guests, her work does not go unnoticed. We loved our visit and we hope to come back someday!

  • I booked this place for my daughter who has been extremely busy with work and school and needed a break for some R&R and quiet time. She told me she absolutely LOVED this place! It was the perfect getaway for her and she plans on returning multiple times in the future especially because it’s not too far from where we live. Christine was excellent with communication as well. Would highly recommend :)

    Sherry2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was exactly what me and my husband were looking for. Clean, Christine was great at communication and the place was absolutely beautiful with everything we needed. The view was a perk too!! So pretty!!

    Ashley2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Christines place is exactly as described. Made our Valentine’s Day very special to sit out by the fire pit! The place was clean and Christine thought to leave out cookies & chocolates on our pillow. Really enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

  • It is a great space to stay. It is situated right on the mountains and you're just a short drive away from all the scenic views and parks. The host even provided everything from small snacks to towels and even laundry. Communication was never an issue and even let me check in a little early when I got into town. It is a great place to stay. I recommend it 100%.

    Mathew2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great, simple place to stay. Put us close to trails we wanted to do and close to town, which gave us great food options. Great communication. Loved that he welcomed our pets, they loved the yard (and chasing deer)!

    Steven2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hunter is an amazing host and the cottage is warm, inviting, and very well appointed with special touches — I won’t spoil any surprises — suffice it to say you will not be disappointed. The location is perfect and the setting pastoral and relaxing, even though the town of Bedford is just a couple minutes away. It was extremely quiet with bright skies and stars and an almost full moon. The linens are lovely, the shower head nice and the living and sleeping spaces were spacious and comfy for a “cottage”! You will find good books to peruse and a nice sitting area on the back deck to enjoy the fresh mountain air.

    Laura2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Communication with Hunter was great! Unfortunately weather disrupted our travel and we were not able to stay at his place. Next time!

  • Nancy and Jeff are wonderful hosts. Highly recommended!

    Jessica2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • From the outside, this is an unassuming house on a country road near Bedford; but when you come up the walk, there's a welcoming vestibule, I hen through the front door to stylish warmth, well-considered touches such as wine and communal seating area and surprising sense of spaciousness from the high ceilings. Real people live here, and you can share their space without feeling on top of them. I love ample breakfast in the sun room.

    Kelly2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy was so welcoming and kind. She made a delicious breakfast with lots of fresh local ingredients including potatoes from her own garden. Her house is just a short drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway so a perfect stop on our driving trip. Highly recommend this lovely cosy place!

    Frederique2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn’t imagine a better place to visit! It’s clear that Nancy loves sharing her beautiful space and from the moment we stepped on to the property my partner and I felt so welcomed. Sometimes sharing a space can feel awkward, but with Nancy it felt like an intuitive dance where we had both freedom and company when we wanted it. We drifted into a very restful sleep to the sounds of the creek and the crickets and woke up (many many hours later) to the smell of Nancy’s FANTASTIC farm fresh breakfast. Nancy is incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and can tell you about all of the beautiful plants that grow on her serene property or the best places to hike. She is a wealth of information! I can’t totally put it into words, but there was something so healing and restorative about being there. Nancy also goes above and beyond to help you have the best time. We had a milking experience that we had booked with air bnb and it ended up getting canceled. I reached out asking if Nancy knew of anyone and she was able to find a farm that would let us milk their cows. I can’t say enough positive things about this wonderful place and human! Do yourself a favor and visit Sister Nettle and experience it for yourself!

    Elizabeth2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I spent a wonderful weekend at Sister Nettle B&B in October, just as the leaves were beginning to turn. We ended up hiking Peaks of Otter and a little bit of the Appalachian Trail, both of which are within easy driving distance. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also readily accessible. We would highly recommend both the property and the hosts. The cottage itself is lovely and well-maintained, and even has reasonably fast satellite wifi. Nancy and Jeff are kind and generous hosts who make it a joy to stay with them. Every morning, they lay out a scrumptious, organic breakfast spread easily comparable to any restaurant's offering. We simply can't say enough good things about Sister Nettle, and we'll definitely be back in the future for another visit.

    Josh2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderfully comfortable and restful home. Nancy and Jeff go out of their way as great hosts. Definitely would stay again.

  • Nancy’s place was WONDERFUL!! My husband and I so enjoyed her adorable home and the beautiful vistas in the back yard and on our drive out. She is so incredibly kind and everything was very clean, which I loved! The bed was comfy and you can adjust your own temperature which is perfect. Her breakfast was super delicious as well. I can’t say enough nice things about Nancy and her place!

  • We just spent a wonderful weekend at Jim’s Graham’s Ordinary. The way they are renovating the building is so cool and the full wall of windows to enjoy the view is perfect. The self serve, fully stocked kitchenette was great for grabbing a bite and heading out to explore. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Claytor Nature Center are just minutes away for outdoor exploring and Bedford with its museums and antiques kept us busy when it rained in the afternoon Jim was just an email away with any questions we had before arriving and very helpful with ideas for things to do in the area It was just a perfect weekend.

  • What an awesome trip! My wife and I spent our 1 year anniversary at the lodge which meant the bar was set high to make it special. The place exceeded our expectations! Beautiful view from the bed with the large windows looking out over the valley. Very cozy and romantic place. The host, Jim, was very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable about the historic property. Highly recommend the Graham Ordinary Lodge for a romantic, scenic retreat!!!

  • Delightful!

  • This cabin is a slice of heaven! It’s the perfect little retreat for relaxation with a serene backdrop complete with a waterfall and the sound of rolling water at every window. No detail has been missed or comfort spared. You will never want to leave...we sure didn’t! :). Rhonda and Jeff were the most hospitable hosts I’ve ever had with Airbnb and we can’t say enough how lucky we feel to have found them and this little treasure. We will definitely be back!

    Heather2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I spent the weekend at Rocreek cabin and had such an amazing, relaxing, and fun weekend. From completing puzzles by the fireplace, fishing in the pond, and enjoying the fresh homemade coffee cake left for us by Rhonda, we could not have asked for a better mini babymoon! The attention to detail was above par and made it that much more enjoyable. We are very thankful to have been able to enjoy this little piece of paradise! Thank you for everything!!

    Donna2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • It's an amazing spot and one of the best Airbnb places and experiences my husband and I had. The cabin is designed very tastefully and it's sparkling clean. The back porch was the best as it overlooks the creek. Rhonda and her husband were amazing hosts! We recommend a visit to their cabin!

    Emiliya2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We found exceptional attention to detail and agree it's the most wonderful and relaxing Airbnb experience we've ever had. Each room is cozy and welcoming. We had a great time as a family playing games in front of the fireplace. The creek and the waterfall are so relaxing. We got to Peaks of Otter easily and quickly to be able to enjoy a few hikes for the days we were there. Peaks of Otter and Blue Ridge Parkway were minutes away. It was a great "home base" for hiking. We can't say enough good things about it. We'll certainly be back.

  • Excellent hospitality and communication!

  • A very nice getaway for us. We visited the Belk observatory about 15 min away at Claytor Nature Study Center. The hot tub was perfect and the eggs delicious! Hope to be back soon!

  • This home has it all. A fully stocked kitchen where there is plenty of room to cook a nice meal ( using those farm fresh eggs of course!) .. the beds are very comfortable! A queen memory foam bed upstairs which is very nice, 2 soft twin mattresses on the trundle ( I fell asleep each night putting my kids to bed because they were so plush) & a nice bed in the master downstairs like a sleep # bed you & a partner can control the individual settings. The extras didn’t go unnoticed... plush towels, very soft bedding, Curtains & blonds so you can actually sleep in, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner, hot tub, fresh eggs.. can we talk about the view also, WOW! & the cows.. too cute! ALSO- actual movies for children & great cell service for streaming. We are well traveled & stay in A LOT of airBNB’s .. once we stayed in an extremely high end cabin on private lake... VERY COSTLY & has always been our favorite airBNB... WELL, My husband & I both agree, this stay has now BEAT that cabin retreat, that is the best compliment I could give! This is now the airBNB to beat for all other trips 🙂 thank you for a lovely stay not just for us bit for our entire family.

  • This place is amazing! Great location to reach many different places. The hot tub was perfect for watching the sunrise on a cold morning! We loved the farm fresh eggs since we have backyard chickens, nothing beats the taste! We will definitely stay here in the future!

The Abode is located between Bedford and Roanoke VA. This home is on a private nature preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Off to itself, facing into the deep mountain woods, the place offers amenities, including an electric fireplace, gas grill and an office/den.
Sunsets are spectacular, set against the Blue Ridge mountain backdrop. Star-gazing is a delight. Everything is here for you so you can walk in and immediately feel at home. This is a self-catering home designed for a maximum of two people. It has a fully equipped kitchen, all linens, paper products, teas, coffee and condiments. A gas grill is on the back deck along with cushioned chairs, wrought iron table and umbrella. The large front deck has chairs, settee and side table. Snuggle up in the queen size bed. There’s a den with a desk, multi-plug-in strip for all your gadgets, a big sink-into-relax lounging chair and a small library of books. The living room has a love seat, electric fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD player and Radio. If you need to communicate with the outside world, most cell phones and internet devices work well. We do not provide WIFI.
What we love about this mountain is that it is rather remote. Our closest neighbor is about one mile away. Yet, we are 3.4 miles from the four-lane highway, Route 460/221. You have the best of both worlds. Solitude and city life—if you wish. You can be downtown in Roanoke within 35 minutes drive. (it takes 15 minutes to drive up the mountain on a narrow, winding road). Having lived here 32 years, we still have never tired of the mountain beauty and sereneness.
  • Paula was a great host , she was attentive to our needs but very aware of our need for privacy , would not hesitate to stay with her again, all the special touches made it feel like a 2nd home , great stay !

  • We had a comfortable stay in this lovely, spacious updated old farmhouse. The place was very clean, the beds were comfortable. We brought all our own groceries - I am not sure how close any shopping might be. The hosts kindly left a package of ground beef from their own cows! The spacious kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. And the hosts had a generously supplied “coffee bar.” The hosts were quick to respond to questions. It was a lovely spot and a relaxing place to stay between hikes on the nearby Appalachian Trail.

  • Kara and Dave's inn is absolutely beautiful. Loved our room too. Decorating and special touches were more than we expected. Kara welcomed us immediately and made us feel right at home. She was very informative and made great suggestions for area attractions and dining. We went to the Bedford Social Club for dinner after visiting Beals Brewery ( Beal's barbeque menu and entree's looked amazing but we already had reservations. Loved their IPA) We especially enjoyed a glass of wine on the Inn's front porch later in the evening, and coffee the next morning after enjoying breakfast in the dining room. Will definitely book again the next time we are passing through the adorable town of Bedford!

A highly sanitized and conscientious secluded & expansive luxury property on the slopes of the Appalachias overlooking a mountain lake. You’ve found your perfect getaway.
Built in 1983 in the Scandinavian-log style, "Rosebud" takes its name from a long-standing family retreat at nearby Stoney Creek and represents a peaceful departure from the past. Let your worries go alongside trout streams, fruit orchards, and abundant wildlife. Find the Appalachian Trail, Liberty University, Beale’s Brewery, Smith Mountain Lake, the Peaks of Otter, Apple Orchards, the D-Day Memorial and the Sedalia Center all within a short drive; and more than a mile of private, secluded hiking trails on site.
Even though they are far away, our neighbors mean a lot to us. We ask that you always respect those who call Wheat's Valley home.
  • Beck’s place is a perfect mountain oasis. It was absolutely everything we hoped for from the photos and the other reviews. The beds and bedding were so comfortable. The small touches were perfect. Communication was easy and quick. We really felt at home and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The view off the deck across the lake was breath taking.

    Aubrey2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. It was the perfect place for us to get away for a bit and relax.

    Gwen2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at this cabin and it did not disappoint. We took my brother and sister in law with us and had a wonderful and relaxing two days of rest, relaxation, and fun! We did not get much in the way of cell service, which was a big plus. The cabin is so comfortable and well appointed for 4 people to stay without feeling cramped at all. We enjoyed a nice big fire and the hot tub in the evenings. We will definitely be back for another visit.

    Kat2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and picturesque. The hot tub was perfect!

    Stacy2019-12-30T00:00:00Z

    Erik2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect little cabin! Beck’s place provided a gorgeous setting for a much-needed break from reality. The views are stunning! We loved waking to breathtaking landscapes, hiking the nearby mountains, decompressing in the hot tub, and enjoying each other’s company by the fire. The hosts felt like immediate friends. We can’t wait to return!

    Stephanie2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot say enough about this fabulous cabin in the woods. Cozy yet with every amenity that you could hope for. The jacuzzi spa is worth the stay in itself under the stars and overlooking the lake/reservoir. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms bright and clean. We enjoyed local attractions the Bedford WWII Museum, Jefferson's Poplar Forest, and the local apple farm. We were even pleasantly surprised to be able to watch the World Series on the TV even though there is no wifi or cable. We ate out but also cooked in, and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!

My place is close to: Family-friendly activities, Peaks of Otter Winery, D-day Memorial, Blue Ridge Parkway, Jefferson's Poplar Forest, Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke, and Liberty University You’ll love my place because of: The farm animals, pick your own fruit and cider in season, fishing ponds, hunting in season, wine tastings, creeks and trails, the views, the location, the coziness My place is good for: Couples, business travelers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (dogs).
. In the early 1900's, Elmo Johnson and his wife Freddie lived and raised their family in the house. They planted their first apple tree in 1919. The secluded home is in the middle of 250 acres of orchards, lush pastures, and shady woods. It is located a ½-mile from the nearest dwelling. It is surrounded by the animals that you would expect to find on a self-sufficient farm of that era. Animals include cattle, horses, burros, dogs, cats, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits, and turkeys. From the first blossom of Spring, to creek wading in Summer, to the last crisp apple of Fall, to the snow-covered hills of Winter, there is a time for you to relax or be active. The property boasts 3 ponds for fishing, creeks for wading, "deer" trails for walking and hiking, and wonderful rolling land for cross-country skiing. There are breathtaking views in all directions for viewing or photographing. The home is 8 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 7 miles from The National D-Day Memorial. On the farm is Peaks of Otter Winery which makes "Fruit of the Farm Wine."

  • A great place to stay. Very clean. Lovely view. Owner very quick to respond and very helpful. Will stay again when in area. Great value don not miss this one.

  • I can’t say enough about this place. Amazingly beautiful. Large and clean and peaceful. A perfect place if you have a dog or children with the wide open space and the little animal farm right down the lane. We will be back for sure and really can’t recommend this enough if you are staying in Bedford or the surrounding area.

    John2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful experience! Fun for our whole family in a beautiful setting. Cannot wait to go back!

    Ashley2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect to unplug and unwind. There was no cell service and no WiFi so that made a little bit of confusion and frustration from other family members. But for me it was great. I don’t think the view from almost any angle of the house can be beat. It’s breath taking. Our family enjoyed the animals on the farm, the beautiful country store at the winery and talking to the host. The winery seriously has some of the best wine I have ever tasted. The owner left us a free bottle of wine and of some of their apple butter its small touches like this that made us feel at home. The home itself is not luxurious but it’s great for a large family looking for an experience. We came up for Liberty Universities graduation and wanted some where affordable and accessible to the school. This location did not disappoint. It’s also kinda neat to explore the inside of the home cause it’s got some interesting features normal for a farm home. We will most likely return.

    Charley2019-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a farm in the truest sense. Wake up and step outside with coffee to greet the goats, pigs, and donkeys just beyond the yard. Finish the evening around the fire pit, the sun setting behind the surrounding peaks. With rolling hills of orchards, fields, and forests to explore, this isn't a fancy vacation, but rather a very tranquil, and remarkably beautiful place to get away. Highly recommend.

  • Fantastic experience, we really enjoy the beautiful view, delicious fruits, wine tasting. The owners are so friendly, nice and sweet, offered us cage free organic eggs and free wine tasting. The house is beautiful, feels warm and clean!!! We carried two boxes of fire wood for camp fire, to us surprise, the host provide the gas fire pit. Before we left, we spent some time to clean the house, left the blue tooth speaker and a cowboy hat at the house, they called me to find out how to mail to us. We will definitely return, we spent the July 4th holiday at this house to have a wonderful memory

  • This is the quintessential farm house experience. House was clean, ac, and cable tv which sometimes you don't get in a farm house. We stay at airbnb's all the time and this is the best

A charming Victorian home full of history and personality within walking distance to town center, restaurants, music and a brewery. Only one guest room ensures a quiet, peaceful stay. The first floor suite has a queen bed and a private bathroom and its own door to the front porch ~ graced by more than a century of sunrises. Since 2003, Kathy and John have been enjoying their B&B guests (and their guests have had fun learning about their other passions - sharing yoga and farming fish!).
Many guests choose to stay with us because we have only one room to rent, thus the promise of privacy. What makes it extra nice is that the room is on the main floor and has its own entrance. There is also a closet with hangers, a desk and wifi.
The house sits up and back from our wide street, which takes you south 1/2 mile to town or north 10 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
  • Kathy and John are a delightful host and hostess.

    Michelle2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time staying at Kathy's place. Kathy and her husband John are really great people, warm and welcoming and make you feel right at home. The private bedroom and bath were super clean and the bed is extremely comfortable. The room has its own entry way so you can come and go as you please without disturbing anyone or vice-versa. Their house is not far from The Peaks of Otter Mountain or the Peaks of Otter Winery, both are a "must see" attraction. I would highly recommend staying at Kathy's place.

  • Forget Me Not B&B is a classic Bedford home with a welcoming host, charming decorative touches, comfortable private accommodations and they serve a tasty breakfast.

    Frank2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a nice, quiet, clean, and private bed and breakfast this is the place. With its own private entrance and bathroom, this was an ideal fit for my attendance at a local wedding held nearby at Sierra Vista. The town has a lot of charm and history, not to mention the spectacular views and gateway to the mountains. I plan on coming back, simply to visit and explore. Kathy and John were terrific hosts and I was quite pleased with the small touches, such as a chalkboard with my name welcoming me.

The Loft is located on the second floor of historic Lawyers Row, circa 1840, in the heart of Centertown Bedford and close to the National D-Day Memorial, Poplar Forest, Smith Mountain Lake, The Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We think you’ll love the close proximity to Centertown's local shops and restaurants, and be impressed by the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into renovating our vintage building. Great for business travelers, romantic getaways, and passers thru.
  • Great space with tons of character! Nice touches and awesome communication. Highly recommended!

    Lisa2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The space was beautiful and homey and just short walk from restaurants. It was perfect for our weekend trip to a friend's wedding. Jon was also a great host-- extremely communicative and easy to get a hold of! I definitely recommend this space if you're in the area!

    Caroline2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This was an adorable little loft, perfect size for a couple. Any more than that and the space might be a little tight, but it is a quiet and quaint loft. The location is convenient and feels very safe. We were able to travel easily to Roanoke and nearby mountains to do some hiking without spending all day in the car! It was a great time, will likely come back!

    Taylor2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a clean, stylish, comfortable place & Jon was a great communicator. He was kind enough to accommodate an early check in, as well. I would definitely stay again and recommend to my friends!

  • Jon's place is right in the heart of Bedford so whether you are there for business or pleasure, it's convenient. Lot's of nice places to go to in Bedford for a relaxing weekend. The loft did a great job of combining a historic look with modern convenience. Very peaceful.

  • The house is in a quiet area but close enough to everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean and roomy. The big open great room is a wonderful place for family to gather. We would definitely return if we're in the area again.

  • This place was fabulous! In addition to the amazing view, it’s great space - very accommodating for families! They even had numerous night lights throughout the house, which was really helpful for our little ones. And it was very well stocked - plenty of towels, bed linens, & kitchen supplies. They even brought us over some additional plastic tableware for the kids and a highchair. Preston & Judy were so welcoming & accommodating, we will definitely stay again if we are ever back in the area!

    Courtney2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful country view and a great place for a family gathering. We were able to sit out on the porch and enjoyed the weather and nature. Thank you for being a wonderful host! Hope to come back again.

Located atop Blue Ridge mountains. Close to Liberty University, Virginia Tech, Appalachian Trail, James River, National D-Day Memorial. Jefferson's Poplar Forest and Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke is less than 35 minute drive. Expansive views of central Virginia's Blue Ridge. View Sharp Top Mountain in all it's splendor from every window.
Mountain views, wildlife, primitive hiking trails. Enjoy a steaming cup of coffee while watching the sunrise from the expansive deck or an amazing sunset from the garden pergola to start your evening. King Beds, Private Bath. Den with big screen television, pool table, full size guests' refrigerator, fireplace; washer & dryer, hair dryer. Full access to finely appointed kitchen. Relax, ponder mortality, breath fresh mountain air and forget the rest of the world.
My neighborhood is best described as quiet, secluded and out of the way. The most noise you may hear is bird chirping, hawks screeching, turkeys gobbling, coyotes barking and deer ruting, and if fortunate, the rare bobcat cry.
  • Wonderful experience. The host worked with us significantly and was beyond fair. The house and location is gorgeous. Will absolutely stay again or recommend to any in the future. The only downside is there is not uber/lyft services in the area of the house; however, we were able to get an uber back to the house from downtown lynchburg. Be prepared in advance if you are looking for public transportation! Great experience overall which exceeded our expectation.

  • What an amazing get away. Location location location. Skips place had it all. Heavens Gate is at the top of our list the next time we can get away again. Thanks Skip for taking good care of us, making us feel at home, and treating us like family.

    Jack2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a great value in a VERY beautiful home! To sit and relax on the back deck overlooking a wide expanse of mountains was the highlight for us. And we didn’t get “just a room”. It was the bedroom with private bath, and the whole bottom floor which included a large living room, bar area, full size refrigerator, pool table and TV. Skip and Mitzi were very gracious hosts and enhanced our stay with a bonfire under the pergola and put out corn to attract the local animals. This Airbnb is one that we will surely look back on with great memories!

    Steve2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • First, Skips home for me had the greatest views in Bedford!!! Skips home is very spacious and clean. Skip is a truly a gentleman and would recommend to everyone to stay at his wonderful home called Heavens Gate! He is very thoughtful to our family that stayed for a week and went beyond the scope of hospitality for us. I truly recommend if staying in that area to stay at Skips place. The view is truly magnificent and the home comes with everything. I 100 % recommend staying at his home in the clouds. Last thing plenty of wildlife to enjoy. Thanks skip for being an outstanding host. You're number one in my book!!!!

    Harry2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely home perched on top of a mountain offers great views of the other mountains and solitude for enjoying those views. The decor is relaxed and has art works reflecting the owners travels which are very interesting to look at and try to guess the origins of each. Also, the owner has thoughtfully enhanced the wildlife viewing by putting out a corn pile and hummingbird feeders and even laid some wood in the fire pit for us to enjoy at night. This is a very hospitable and relaxing place to stay.

This is a second floor walk-up, private bedroom in a loft, on the corner of Main Street in downtown Bedford. You can walk anywhere you need, restaurants, brewery, post office, bank, groceries etc. all within a quick jaunt. I have hosted guests from all over and stayed in AirBnb's internationally myself. I also live here but travel frequently so may or may not be in town during your stay. I also have a large parrot, Kiwi. She loves to interact with guests and is quite the entertainer. Mahalos!
There are 23 stairs as this loft is located entirely on the second floor.
Conveniently located between Roanoke and Lynchburg, Bedford is full of historic charm. Known for the Peaks of Otter and the D-Day Memorial. Bedford lost more soldiers per capita than any other town in America. Fall colors on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Smith Mountain Lake are always top picks for visitors. The hiking choices are limitless in this part of the state with fantastic options close by. Come clean up from the AT hiking or catch a layover for the next Virginia Tech game.
  • Great location, very accommodating host. Unique place. Parrot in the next room really not a distraction, only regret that we couldn't meet him!

  • We loved staying here!! The location was perfect, walkable to great brewery, restaurants, grocery, antique shops etc. Town is clean & safe, close to great hiking at Peaks of Otter & history of D-Day, WW2. We genuinely enjoyed our weekend visit, the space was exactly what we needed to relax & launch out for adventures. We didn’t get to meet Michael but he stayed in touch & we hope to see him next time we’re in Bedford!! Very happy to have found this spot & grateful to be welcomed into this home! 😊

    Michele2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Used Bedford as a base for hiking in the Appalachian Trail. Michael made some great trail recommendations and is an expert on the area. Make sure to check out Beale’s Brewery too, it’s a short walk from the loft and great beer!

    Justin2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place was very clean and well done. The location was great for walking around Bedford, and we were very comfortable. As an indoor plant lover myself, I felt at home. I would not hesitate to return if we were to travel again to that area.

Perfect place for gathering families and friends in large house, with onsite activities and many nearby attractions! Take a dip in the gorgeous heated pool or relax those muscles in the adjoining jetted spa, gather the group for a great meal using the outdoor kitchen, make some memories or get competitive in the game room, play in the children's room complete with closed circuit baby monitors, board games, books, movies, & satellite tv, or lazily enjoy the beautiful sunsets on our 15 acres.
The house has 5 bedrooms: 3 king bedrooms, 1 bedroom with a twin trundle day bed, and 1 bedroom with a full/twin bunk bed and full size futon in the room. All rooms are on the ground floor, making it safer for younger guests and easier on guests with mobility challenges. Three rooms are on one side of the house: king room with master bath, and another king and twin trundle bed share the hall bathroom. The other two rooms (king room and bunk room) are on the other side of the common areas and share a full bath between the bedrooms. The children's room (bunk room) has some toys and a separate tv/dvd, as well as an audible alarm on the door, and baby monitor in the room to *assist* in keeping them safe. The king size rooms have been equipped with usb outlets to assist with charging devices. All bedrooms have room darkening curtains for those that would like to sleep in on vacation, and mattresses and pillows have protectors for hygiene, dust, and bedbug prevention. The pool is open from April 1st through September 30th (Approximately). Please note that the spa that overflows into the pool is not a hot tub and closes for the season with the pool. The spa does have seats and jets, but it is not separately heated. The temperature in the spa is normally around 87 to 88 degrees, which is a few degrees warmer than the heated pool (84 to 85 degrees), but not as hot as a typical hot tub that usually is 95 to 100 degrees.
Close to Lynchburg (27 mi), Smith Mountain Lake (30 mi) Roanoke (34 mi), Appamatox (42 mi), Lexington (49 mi). Also close to several popular wedding venues, such as: Woodland Place, Glass Hill and Sorella Farms, among others. Even though the house is "out in the country", it's also only 8 minutes from Bedford where there are several local restaurants, chain restaurants and stores (such as Walmart). If you want to get out some, enjoy a host of great attractions nearby: hike at Claytor Nature Study Center, boat/play at Smith Mountain Lake, hike, eat at the lodge, or see the foliage at Peaks of Otter, hike and see the falls at Natural Bridge State Park, do some antique shopping in downtown Bedford & Roanoke, visit historical sites/monuments (D-Day memorial, Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, Appomatox Court House, Roanoke museums), dazzle your taste buds on winery trail, and nearby breweries (Beale's downtown has awesome beer cheese)! So much to do when you unplug and reconnect!
  • We had a wonderful time! The house exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to go back when the pool is open!

    Michelle2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Bedford Getaway is an awesome house for a large family or group. The common rooms are extra large providing plenty of seating. Mary has thought of everything and left plenty of special touches at your disposal. The game room is a real bonus providing entertainment for everyone. Although we did not swim or use the spa the pool was beautiful with the spa trickling into it, especially at sunset. We would definitely rent the house again if we were back in the area.

    Sue2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful house with a fantastic range of thoughtful amenities that made our stay easy and comfortable. There is plenty of room and the outdoor area is well-appointed and very private with gorgeous views. The area is convenient to Lynchburg and--although the house feels like it is in a remote location--it is still close enough to all of the things needed (stores, restaurants, gas, etc...) to make for a great stay.

The house was very well equipped and decorated along with many gigs as described. We really enjoyed the pool and every corner of the place. You will love the view from the pool.

  • Love this place definitely coming back!

    Angel2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and Mary were wonderful to communicate with. We had a nice relaxing weekend by the pool. The kids room is at the other end of the house, but they provided a monitor so you can see and hear the kids if you are in other parts of the home. If we are ever in Virginia again, we would stay here! Note: I was slightly nervous about signing the rental agreement provided outside of AirBnB. However, you can see that they have rented this house on multiple rental sights over the past few years. Everything went smoothly.

  • This was a wonderful weekend get away. Nancy was thoughtful and the space is lovely. She also cooks delicious breakfast. Can’t wait to go back!

    Mickinley2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Before I arrived, Nancy provided me with details directions to her place and an extensive list of personalized recommendations for restaurants/activities. At arrival, she greeted me at the door and familiarized me with her place! Her breakfast is mostly made with local, natural, and home-grown ingredients (the best is her homemade yogurt). If all of this isn’t enough, Nancy is also an amazing non-intrusive conversationalist who will genuinely care about you.

    Cassidy2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sister Nettle is a wonderfully peaceful retreat nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. With access to Roanoke and stunning views plus charming features in the immediate vicinity including a greenhouse, garden, and nearby pastures and wildlife, the location leaves little to be desired. Nancy and Jeff are fabulous hosts who engage in thoughtful conversation if guests wish. Nancy is also an excellent cook and incredibly accommodating. The level of intention throughout the space is evident with many touches that really take the stay to another level, such as the wine, grapes, and M&Ms that greet guests, a variety of breakfast options, clear notes around the space to indicate best practices in the uses of the facility (eg, wifi, bathroom), and a detailed tour in which Nancy provides plenty of tips and other information to make guests feel immediately at home. Although I'm generally shy, particularly as a guest, Nancy quickly put me at ease and I felt entirely comfortable reaching into the fridge for cream for some late-night decaf. Nancy is knowledgeable about the area if you aren't familiar with it and can suggest plenty of options for things to do and places to eat. Both Nancy and Jeff are also entrenched in the agricultural world and can share lots of interesting information about the field. As others have noted, you won't want to depend on wifi to do any streaming, but casual internet browsing is absolutely possible via phones, laptops, and other devices. I highly recommend Sister Nettle and hope to return for another visit in the future.

    Abby2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the most wonderful stays I've ever booked. Nancy is a doll- she met us there, showed us around, and told us about the area. The cottage was lovely, everything was clean and worked well, and Nancy makes the best breakfast this side of the Mississippi. I cant reccomend staying there enough. It was blissful.

  • Nancy & Jeff are wonderful, welcoming hosts. I utterly enjoyed myself and look forward to returning for future visits. There is so much to do in this beautiful area. Nancy offers a wonderful, home cooked breakfast with options from fruit, granola & yogurt to farm fresh eggs and produce directly form her garden. Yum! My bed was comfortable and I slept like a baby. There is lots of hiking nearby. The local, quaint town of Bedford is fun to explore.

  • Nancy was a very attentive and thoughtful host! The area was remote and restful as well as beautiful views. The accommodations were very comfortable. Overall the visit was 5 star!

Great place for relaxing, writing, contemplation, yoga and getting in touch with your inner joys again. Sunsets are spectacular, set against the Blue Ridge mountain backdrop. Star-gazing is a delight. The hawk migrant route is right overhead. Fantastic place to watch birds. Everything is here for you so you can walk in and immediately feel at home. This is a self-catering home designed for a maximum of two people. It has a fully equipped kitchen, all linens, paper products, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, creamer, pancake mix and oatmeal. We are 12 miles from Bedford, 14 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 22 miles from Roanoke, 32 miles from Salem, 42 miles from Lynchburg and Smith Mountain Lake.
What we love about this mountain is that it is rather remote. Our closest neighbor is about one mile away. Yet, we are only 3.4 miles from the four-lane highway, Route 460/221. You have the best of both worlds. Solitude and city life—if you wish. You can be downtown in Roanoke within 35 minutes drive. (it takes 12 minutes to drive up the mountain on a narrow, winding road). Having lived here 31 years, we still have never tired of the mountain beauty and sereneness.
  • Our stay at Paula's was terrific. She was attentive and gave great recommendations for the surrounding area, including restaurants, hikes, and activities. Her cabin was immaculate and organized; we loved the small living room. I would 10/10 recommend staying there. Paula even had the consideration to allow us to stay past our 11:00 AM standard check-out time because of daylight savings.

    Dayton2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Paula’s space was perfect for our stay. Plenty of things to do and a cute little space to spend time. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a weekend getaway.

  • We had a great time! Views from the porch were incredible, the cottage was clean and very comfortable.

  • This is a wonderfully hosted property that is magnificent, beautiful, and remote. If you are looking for a lovely view of the Blue Ridge, this is it. That said, it's only a short drive from the property to lots of great places to go, things to see, etc. We simply loved it. But what really makes it stand out is the thoughtful attention Paula pays to EVERY detail - all the way down to having an extra iPhone and Android charger, and a large book of brochures & local info. She's a true professional and really goes the extra mile for her guests. She even called to check on us during a wind storm, and gave us great, on-point recommendations on things to do in the area.

  • This airbnb is located on a mountain with lovely views. Paula greeted us so warmly and made us feel welcome.

    Martha2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • There’s not enough positive I can say about our experience here. Paula was an amazing host...excellent communication before and during the stay, as well as taking it upon herself to include heartwarming little touches to make our time there extra memorable. The cottage itself is beautiful. The kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry are on the first floor. The kitchen is stocked with all the necessities (including a good supply of coffee!). The bed is very comfortable and you can enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains and stars out the window. The upstairs has an electric fireplace and some comfy chairs offering a quiet place to relax. The wrap around deck has beautiful views through the trees and would be a wonderful place to start and end the day when it’s warm enough. We would highly recommend this place for any couple looking for a quiet romantic getaway in the Roanoke area...five stars isn’t enough for this stay!!!

  • This was a wonderful getaway destination. A nice and cozy space in the Blue Ridge Mountains. How can you beat that?!

    Bob2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Paula's cottage is a wonderful place for a weekend getaway. It is close to many interesting things to do, and has wonderful views. If you're lucky you'll get to see the deer that hang out near her property. She is a wonderful host with a clean modern comfortable cottage

Located atop Blue Ridge mountains. Close to Liberty University, Virginia Tech, Appalachian Trail, James River, National D-Day Memorial. Jefferson's Poplar Forest and Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke is less than 35 minute drive. Expansive views of central Virginia's Blue Ridge. View Sharp Top Mountain in all it's splendor from every window.
Mountain views, wildlife, primitive hiking trails. Enjoy a steaming cup of coffee while watching the sunrise from the expansive deck or an amazing sunset from the garden pergola to start your evening. King Beds, Private Bath. Den with big screen television, pool table, full size guests' refrigerator, fireplace; washer & dryer, hair dryer. Full access to finely appointed kitchen. My neighborhood is best described as quiet, secluded and out of the way. The most noise you may hear is bird chirping, hawks screeching, turkeys gobbling, coyotes barking and deer ruting, and if fortunate, the rare bobcat cry.

  • This trip was a last minute idea that my wife and I had. We had wanted to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway and Roanoke area for a while, but something always came up. Well we had the time, had some great fall weather coming in,and found a beautiful little Inn named Longwood, in the town of Bedford.Kara answered us in a matter of an hour, and we were all set. Longwood Inn is an absolutley gorgeous victorian home with everything you would expect in a bed and breakfast. From the wrap a round porch to the beautiful entry hall, with marvelous woodworking and full of antiques! The property was beautiful, the room and bath, spotless. We were well within an easy walk of everything Bedfords main street had to offer, and it is fantastic! Kara is a wealth of Information and always seemed available. She directed us to antique stores, little shops, but most importantly... Great Food. Longwood is within 20 miles or so of Lynchburg(Liberty U.), Blue Ridge Parkway,National D-Day Monument and Smith Mountain Lake to name a few.We wll be backto Longwood Inn.

Please read the full description. This is a 2nd floor, 2500 square foot, walk up loft, right in downtown Bedford. The D-Day Memorial, Beale's Brewery, Appalachian Trail, and Peaks of Otter are all nearby. Walk in shower & soaking tub. Equipped kitchen with a washer/dryer. Close to restaurants and pubs. There are several options available, either renting the entire loft, or 2 private bedrooms, now listed separately. Please indicate your preference in the reservation, and a brief introduction.
I live here, but travel frequently, so my loft is often available as an entire private loft, or as one or two private bedrooms. Please indicate in your booking request which room(s) you would like to reserve, or if the entire loft. This loft is one of only a very few in downtown Bedford. Each bedroom can accommodate two guests. Both rooms have Queen size beds. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it has one of the most convenient locations in town for access. Originally built in the early 1900's and formerly home to Green's drug store, noted for being the Western Union telegraph station that all the letters came home telling of the casualties from the D-Day invasion. It's been recently updated with a brand new bathroom including a large walk in shower, double slipper tub, and boasts a real industrial feel.
  • Michael was really helpful and accommodating as we planned our stay in Bedford. This location is really convenient and centrally-located, would definitely recommend to future Bedford visitors.

    Morgan2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable loft and Michael was a great host! We'll be back.

    Luke2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Michael is an awesome host! He made sure we had what we needed and offered helpful suggestions about restaurants in the area. We went to Beales Brewery to meet Michael at his work and ended up eating dinner there. It was delicious. I would recommend Michael’s place for anyone who is in the downtown Bedford area and needs a place to stay.

    Gina2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Michael's loft while on a business trip with one of my colleagues. It was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Mostly I just enjoyed the ambiance of the place, especially as someone who enjoys nautical themed things. There are a ton of unique treasures from around the world and it really gives the place a unique sense of character. There were some fish tanks and I occasionally heard the parrot too. Michael is a chill guy and I really enjoyed chatting with him. He gave us some tips on what to do locally (namely, the brewery which is awesome), and overall it was a great stay.

    Jeff2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Michael’s place was awesome! Appreciate his flexibility and would definitely recommend booking with him again.

    John2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Michael is an extremely accommodating, polite and friendly host. He has added additional amenities for his guests-he is always thinking about how to allow them to have the best experience at his Airbnb! His location is perfectly central for all activities. Lastly, Michael’s a truly wonderful and interesting person!

    Renee2018-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Michael's, so I had an idea of what to expect (which is a big reason that I returned). Michael's place is perfect for what I needed--great location, tons of very comfortable space, lots of tips about what to do/where to go (hint: go to Beale's), etc. He was also very responsive to my questions, and flexible with arrangements. Michael obviously leads an interesting life, and that is reflected in his place and conversations with him. If/when I'm back in that area, I'll definitely plan to stay there again.

    David2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the coolest places I’ve stayed in, lots of charm and eclectic style! I highly recommend staying here. Small town comfort, located above a coffee shop, but with a large dose of worldly charm infused from the owner’s apparent love of travel and culture.
