Garden cottage set in beautiful 1 acre surrounds. Kangaroos visit in the evenings and there is abundant birdlife. Set in a very quiet former gold rush town on the banks of the Strathfillan Creek. Very peaceful, the cottage is private with a 4 poster bed. Close to historic sites and the beautiful town of St. Arnaud. 5 kms drive to Teddington Reservoir
Close to the Box Ironbark forests we have lots of kangaroos grazing on the grass here. No light pollution means that the stars are very clear at night. From the cottage you can see over to the River Red gums and the Creek. Stuart Mill has a rich history and the Old Malcolm's Inn has survived with many original features since it was built.
Once a gold rush town with a population of 7,000, Stuart Mill is now a friendly, quiet hamlet with a rich history. • Beth was very flexible and helpful. My brother and I were travelling through on pushbikes and Beth allowed us to drop off gear a few days ahead and pick it up again a few days after our stay. We enjoyed chatting with Beth over dinner and she was very generous sharing her kitchen with us. We also loved the home baked bread and fresh greens from Beth’s beautiful garden. Thanks Beth!

    Saint Arnaud, VIC, Australia

A quaint cottage featuring authentic stonework, comfortable rooms and great views, built by the owner: a stone mason. Features a lovely dam to enjoy with a cuppa or glass of wine. Located on the outskirts of Avoca the popular Pyrenees township. Close proximity to town centre featuring the celebrated Avoca Hotel and forms the gateway to many local Pyrenees wineries. Hosts can provide local information. The kitchen is fully equipped to enable you to cook and breakfast ingredients are provided.
Guests are expected to use water wisely as this is a rural property which relies on water collected in tanks on the property. It is also expected that the house will be kept in a tidy manner and treated with respect. Shoes off inside would help with the carpets! We have found it takes a lot more time to prepare both rooms plus providing additional food for two more people. So we have chosen to add $10 per extra person rather than adding a cleaning fee to keep our cottage as affordable as possible.
There are many features of interest and good places to dine in the town.
  • This is a gorgeous place, so cosy and the beds are amazing - had the best nights sleep! Sorry we couldn’t stay longer.

    Kate2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Anna and Michael made us feel sooo at home here. Just what the doctor ordered! Such a great place to stay if you're visiting the Pyrenees or the wine country in general. The place is a tad old inside and there is the odd spider but that didn't bother us in the slightest, what do you expect in the country... It's character!!! Fresh bread and multiple food options in the fridge were a dream, they were really unexpected and thoroughly enjoyed! You can walk the property and experience a beautiful sunset too! We'll be back 100%! Thank you!

    Josh2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Michael's cottage is fabulous, well worth the visit. Really pretty, quiet, comfortable, great breakfast foods and extras provided. The bed and couches are really comfortable, and the setting outside in the porch is just right. Response times to questions were fast, and we were welcomed and shown around in such a friendly manner. Highly recommended.

    St Arnaud, VIC, Australia

Beautiful former old Post Office located in the heart of St Arnaud, close to the Silo Art trail, Grampians national park, various boutique wineries and the goldfields of Ballarat and Bendigo. This 150 year old property has been meticulously renovated into two apartments providing all mod cons whilst keeping the original features of the property with well-established gardens, a very private backyard, security entrance and a short stroll to the main street.
The grand entrance and staircase you see as you enter is awe inspiring and almost like stepping back in time. The backyard is a well-established garden with several areas for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine as you watch the sun go down.
St Arnaud is a former gold mining town, situated about an hour west of Bendigo. The district around St Arnaud supports an agricultural industry of sheep grazing, grains and wineries, with forested areas to the south and open Mallee plains to the north. The town centre features many well-preserved historic buildings and a couple of nice pubs on Napier Street, many with wide verandahs and ornate cast-iron lacework. The town has a long history along Napier Street between Millett Street and Inkerman Street, including the old post office (built in 1866), the court house (1866) and Victoria's oldest fire station (1883) which now serves as a fire brigade museum. A number of attractive gardens exist in St Arnaud's town centre, including the Queen Mary Gardens located opposite the Old Post Office with its pond, exotic trees and friendly ducks and geese. Pioneer Park and Lord Nelson Park offer a range of sporting and recreational facilities. The town's last mine, the Lord Nelson, operated within these parks and there is a lookout atop Wilsons Hill which provides a magnificent view over the township. St Arnaud is the perfect place to base yourself whilst you tour the silo art and old mines dotted around the area.
  • Beautiful, historic building in the quiet end of the Main St. Fabulous space, - lounge, kitchen, dining table, bedroom, separate toilet & laundry & bathroom. Loved the decor, amenities & location. Really private to retreat to. One of a few self contained apartments in the one building, all private & has an outdoor courtyard. Would recommend to stay, especially when doing the Silo Art Trail. St. Arnaud is a very pretty town.

    Lyse2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the Old Post Office. The apartment was very cosy (we particularly appreciated the fireplace). The beds were very comfortable and there were many thoughtful touches such as bathrobes, books, music, dvds etc.

    Jennifer2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A great authentic historic pad to stay in while we were in St Arnaud. Enjoyed reading the late afternoon sun in the garden and using the retro CD player too!

    Kathryn2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very comfortable night at the Old Post Office at St Auburn. Every was very clean and Gary was very good with his communication. Great spot for anyone thinking of seeing many of the painted Silos in the area.

  • This was a lovely, spacious and clean apartment. It was quiet and had a very comfortable bed

    Stephanie2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Post office is the only place I would stay in St Arnaud. I have stayed there often and go back over again. I love the homely feel and the ease of coming and going is great. The beds are comfortable and it's warm and cozy in the winter months. I will be back for sure.

  • Such a peaceful and pleasant place.. highly recommend for a vineyard stay experience.

    Shelley2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The setting at Grape Farm Winery is beautiful. A spacious verandah overlooks the vineyard, a log fire added ambience as did abundant bird life and flora. There amenities were great too. Make sure you have lunch at the cafe during your stay - the tapas style food is absolutely delicious. We hope to return.

    Megan2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay at Karina and Keith’s place and would highly recommend. My wife and I enjoyed the beautiful view of the vineyard from the cottage balcony. Walking distance to 3 other Pyrenees wineries. Nice wine tasting and Spanish cafe onsite.

    Garth2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Grape farm is a hidden oasis in the Pyrenees, the cottage overlooks the vineyard while offering a very private vista. Karina and Heath were the perfect hosts and even gave a impromptu wine tasking on Easter Monday, everything is catered for to help you relax, unwind and indulge in their expansive range of reds & white. The property has a must do walk up to the top of the local range with sweeping views across to the Grampians.

    Andrew2019-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. The cottage is the best escape from the city - it’s peaceful, has amazing views and all you can hear as you sit out on the deck is the sound of birds. The cottage is immaculately kept and has everything you need (lovely touch finding the fridge stocked with eggs, bacon, bread and local jams). Being located in the winery, the cellar door is only minutes walk away so you can wander down for delicious wine and tapas. Karina and Heath the hosts were really lovely. Very thoughtful and welcoming and we can’t wait to go back.

    Elisa2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot ! Really cute cottage which is tucked away and quiet if you need some down time. A great view of the vineyard and I highly recommend going in for a wine tasting ! some yummy drops to try.

    Adam2019-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an extremely enjoyable stay at Grape Farm Cottage. It was very peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for. The cottage is set up with everything you need for a stay. Karina is a fantastic host. We highly recommend a stay at Grape Farm Winery Cottage. The wine is very good as well!

    David2019-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing weekend at Grape Farm Winery and surrounding attractions. Our hosts were the right mix of being there for us to provide assistance and advice (and private wine tasting!) and also give us the space to unwind and relax. We took time out in their beautiful cottage and explored the picturesque winery and grounds. The cottage fridge came stocked with fresh, free range eggs, bacon, orange juice, milk, butter and bread. Ample for two people for two days. A tip from Heath to dine for lunch at Blue Pyrenees (get the shared plate) and then dinner at Talbot Provedore was spot on. We can’t recommend these establishments highly enough. Heath and Karina’s wine is scrumptious and the cottage is great value for money. 10/10 from us. Andrew and Marita

  • We had a fantastic stay at Paul’s place. The house is huge and even better than the photos. Whilst there was only two of us, the place could easily accommodate a few couples. There was plenty of entertainment, from the pool table to board games or relaxing in the hammock to the sounds of the birds. The bed was very comfy, water was hot and kitchen facilities excellent. Definitely amazing value for money! The place is really clean as well. Our dog loved the place too and the secured back yard! Thanks Paul- hope to return again someday.

    Kate2020-01-27T00:00:00Z

Period mud brick cottage originally built sometime before or around 1900 with family history stretching back five generations and the gold rush. It is set on a property of nearly 30 acres with abundant wildlife and scenery. It is located approximately 5-6 kms from the township of Avoca Victoria and it is within walking distance of a couple of local wineries and the Percydale historic area.
The cottage has one dedicated bedroom with a double bed and 2 sofa beds (double) - one in the lounge room and one in the dining room

  • Lovely, welcoming, historical mud-brick home with thoughtful touches on a beautiful sheep farm with serene views. Would thoroughly recommend it. Two wineries up the road and plenty to explore in the area. Nearby Avoca has a great pie shop with an interesting range of pies, from emu to crocodile, and great ice cream too.

  • Mark and Masa’s cottage was an absolute delight - one of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed in. It’s a beautifully styled space that is full of character and thoughtful touches. The fire was going for us upon arrival, which we already appreciated. The cottage was sparkling clean and the bed super comfy. Real coffee and fresh milk an added bonus. A one minute drive up the road to Summerfield for Friday night wood-fired pizza was a treat, not to mention the lovely wineries nearby make for a perfect weekend escape. Looking forward to coming back.

    Gemma2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect location for a stopover due to the number of wineries in close proximity. This place had the added benefit of all linen being provided as well as items for a continental breakfast. Suited our family of four perfectly. Only downfall is lack of options for dinner. Even in the closest town of Avoca a number of places were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so it pays to do some research ahead of time.

    Dominique2019-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Summerfield Lodge is simply fantastic. A beautiful heritage home that is well-appointed inside, and renovated in the kitchen and bathroom. It was so cute and cosy, we didn't want to leave.

  • Penny had been a fantastic host. Her attention to details is very strong and the way she makes sure her guests have a great time, is just amazing. My 7 year old had a fantastic time, both indoors and outdoors. The horses, the sheep and the goats are super friendly and gentle, and I was so pleased to see my daughter forget about gadgets for some days, at least. Directions: Make sure you follow the directions given by Penny. I chose to rely on my latest TomTom GPS and it took me to a spot around 200-300 mts, away from her place. So, better use google map (on satellite map mode) and try to spot a red roofed house, when you get closer, or best, simply follow her written instructions. Internet: No wifi and cellphone reception (Vodafone) is not great. You will get 3G speed. But believe me, you will be happy to stay away from your gadgets.. there are so many other things to do at her place. Spend time with Alpacas: I would highly recommend to take kids to the Alpaca farm. Penny has the details. (some 25 minutes drive from there) Would definitely visit again!

  • Absolutely recommend Penny's Place, we had a fantastic stay and would have enjoyed some extra time on this beautiful property. Penny and Eddie were very accommodating to our stay with our 18mo and the extra touches made us feel right at home, thank you and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • Penny and Eddie are great. Very kind and hospitable. Great place to stay! Thank you

  • By far our best Airbnb experience EVER. The airbnb was sparkling clean, had stylish decor, had thoughtful touches including items to make our own breakfast. We loved getting to pet the animals on the farm and watching the shooting stars at night. Truly and unforgettable stay!!

    Mark2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Penny’s place that has a kitchen with breakfast items in the fridge and washing facilities. They introduced us to all their animals who seem to enjoy visitors.

    David2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Penny’s Place was a wonderful place to stay. It was modern, sparkling clean and comfortable and we appreciated the staples in the pantry and fridge as well as a washing machine for our week-stay. The location was so peaceful and we loved coming back every day to see the horses and goats before enjoying a local wine in the outdoor area while the sun was setting. Penny was easy to communicate with and had plenty of local tips for the area.

  • Penny’s Place is truly a home away from home! Such a peaceful and relaxing environment, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

This price includes complimentary coffee available at the Winery on the property.
  • Great place! Would highly recommend !

  • Chestnut Cottage is nestled into a bank overlooking the vineyard and lake, with views to the surrounding hills. The two-storey cottage with bedrooms upstairs and on the ground floor perfectly accommodated the various sleeping arrangements required by our family, including a couple, a single, and an elderly guest. We arrived late on a bleak winter afternoon after a long drive from the Hunter Valley in NSW, and were soon enjoying dinner in the cosy kitchen. We all slept comfortably and serenely in the quiet rural setting. The cottage is charming and is elegantly furnished, with ample parking and easy access. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, although we did not need any extra assistance, as everything we needed for our stay had been thoughtfully provided. I will happily recommend Redbank Winery for a relaxing stay in the Avoca - Moonambel - St Arnaud area.

Large, light & airy Holiday house at Blue Pyrenees Estate on the bank of the Lake, located in the centre of the vineyard. Three bedrooms with huge open plan living, dining, kitchen and lounge area particularly suited to groups. Master bedroom with ensuite as well as a main bathroom. Local wine tasting, lunching, hiking, and bird watching all feature in this former gold mining precinct.
  • Lovely house in a stunning location. The main sitting dining area was fabulous with plenty of comfortable seating around the fireplace and a very long redgum dining table. Location next to the lake and amongst the gums & vines is beautiful, but get supplies as it is a 5 or so minute drive out of town.

  • Really nice place, good amenities (even the wifi is fast) and great views especially in the vineyards

    Christoph2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Marlyne’s place is incredibly clean, has a very effective heater, a beautiful big kitchen and very comfy beds. My parents and I were very comfortable here.

    Eloise2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Marlyn’s countryside house for one night. Both the inside and outside spaces are quite big, the kitchen is good, fully furnished. There is a massive barbecue that we unfortunately couldn’t use due to the cold weather. Even though we switched the central AC/Heater on, it remains difficult to warm up the whole house including bedrooms. The included breakfast was AMAZING, everything you can expect from it was available. The town is quite and peaceful. Thanks a lot Marlyn !

The communication from Catherine and Kylie was fantastic, particularly as we were heading up on a particularly nasty day weather-wise. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and very enjoyable. Dinner recommendation from Kylie was great, and we spent the whole meal trying to make excuses to come back and stay again

  • I would highly recommend this property! We had four adults and five kids under 10 over the New Year period and the house and location were absolutely perfect. There is plenty of space, the house is incredibly well-equipped and very comfortable. The pool was a huge hit given the weather was so hot! Hugo really is a super-host. His directions and instructions were detailed and very helpful and he was in constant contact with us to make sure we were comfortable and safe when a couple of grass fires broke out in our vicinity. Bear in mind that this is a working farm and about 15mins from St Arnaud so it’s a perfect place to stay if you want to relax and switch off from the world. You’re best to be organised with food and supplies to ensure you’re not spending your holiday in the car. Thank you Hugo! We will be recommending your homestead and hope to return again soon.

Central to the many local wineries and within walking distance to the hotel and general store. Nestled in the beautiful Pyrenees, Tandamuki is the place to relax and rejuvenate.
  • I really can’t speak highly enough of this beautiful cottage in the bush. Completely private away from the main house beautiful views over the bush the cottage is absolutely gorgeous the pictures really don’t do it justice there is everything that you need there, very well set out we could’ve happily stayed longer than the two nights we had booked for the summer field winery festival. Only thing to be wary of is that there is no phone reception with some providers and no Wi-Fi. Barry is a lovely host and I hope we have the chance to return.

There are two verandahs with outdoor seating to take in the amazing views from two sides of the cabin. It is a beautiful, peaceful setting with wineries close by if you so desire. We were recommended to a small vineyard nearby which had flavoursome wines and lovely owners. Thank you Barry and Toni. I can't wait for my return visit.

The original cottage of the first winemakers in the Pyrenees.(Edwin Mackereth and sons) c.1865. Retaining the original roof and wall structure but repaired/refurbished. The interior is a window to life in the 1880's with extras and comforts. The property is located only 2 km from town. The vines , planted by a local Vineyard are blaze of colour in autumn. A perfect time to visit is Autumn and Spring with moderate days and cooler nights - perfect for fires, outside and in.
In Spring the vines are in full leaf and as summer approaches provide fresh greening in tired paddocks. We are not taking guests over the winter months because the temperature can fall below zero overnight . We know the house would be too cold to attain the degree of warmth necessary for comfort in the main living area.
Hedon Farm is on the border of the Farming Zone and as such we are surrounded by paddocks (with cattle) and a scattering of houses in the road. The town has a population of 1200 and is basically a farming community. We are also central to the Pyrenees Wine Region and most of these wineries are within a 20km radius (the nearest only 4-4 km from High Street Avoca). Our "little house" was built by the first wine maker in the area and is approx 150 years old (c.1865). It is not built to current regulations (i.e. if the wind blows , so too does dust and there will be insects. We have tried to mitigate any unpleasant features but we are in the country. We hope you will seek us out to see and possibly stay in our little house - it is history unrepeated.
  • Great time had by all. Wonderful hosts and a charming little quirky cottage.

  • Lots of rustic charm and history. Bedrooms cosy, bathroom modern. In mid winter, living area got cold but plenty of wood and knee rugs. Lots of opportunity for great rural photography. Loved it!

  • We loved staying at the cottage which ia restored preserving the old charm. Shops for groceries, fuel, restaurants etc close-by. Had a wood fire with plenty of logs to feed it. Lovely outdoors with plenty of space.

  • We loved our stay here and our daughter loved the surrounding of the place e.g. wild flowers , farm animals and safe space. It is exactly what we are looking for, a quiet weekend and to appreciate a rural town.

Laura's house is set on an acre and a half. The Kitchen has a gas stove and dishwasher. There is a wood fire for the winter and evaporative air conditioning is ducted into all the bedrooms and living areas for summer. Shops on the High street are only a 5 min walk away. We are in the Pyrenees ranges with many vineyards including Taltarni, Blue Pyrenees and Mount Avoca. Im happy to accommodate people who need a place for several weeks or months for work we can talk about a price.
The house has 2 bedrooms at each end of the house. Each set of bedrooms has a bathroom and toilet. The B & B (Laura's house rooms 1 and 2) is setup with Kitchen, adjacent small family room with wall mounted TV and dining room. There is also a 3rd room available but I reserve it for short term bookings or when I have to move people around. My daughter and I live down the other end of the house and the kitchen is shared although Laura and I are respectful of peoples privacy. There is a wood fire heater at each end of the house and ducted air-conditioning in all rooms.

Unique restored Cobb and Co Inn. Very comfortable and well restored. A tiny, peaceful old Goldtown. The stars at night are very clear. Wineries, antique shops and wildlife. Families welcome.
  • Beth’s house, an old inn on the Cobb and Co route, is full of history and being sensitively developed. Our room was up a tight spiral staircase and looked out on a creek with lots of river red gums and her own old garden, heavy with summer flowers. Best of all, she rears many kinds of fancy hens and they were a fine dawn chorus. We went to sleep with the calls of white cockies and galahs in our ears. It is a magical place in a well-watered benign, and very quiet(except for the birds) landscape. A magical environment. She was warmly welcoming, as were her cats.

  • Beth's place was a great stop on our trip up to the Silo Art Trail. The room is very spacious, extremely comfortable bed and Beth is easy to talk with & very welcoming. She made it a very easy place to stay.

  • No frills place, rustic and quite, a true country inn with a lot of history. Well located for those who want to do the silo painting drive, explore the wineries or relax in the area. We felt welcome and were well looked after.

  • Both cottage and host are lovely, will definitely stay again when I'm in the area

    Paul2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a quiet little historic settlement about 15 mins drive out of St Arnaud. It has it's own story and is worth exploring. Beth is a warm and welcoming host. We slept upstairs in the main building and, although we had the evening out in town, returning to Beth's comfortable accommodation was a delight.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Georgina sent us great information about her home and the very friendly little town of Avoca. Dinner at the Avoca hotel was a highlight as was our visit to Blue Pyrenees winery.

  • Charming and comfortable home in a beautiful place. We had a few lovely relaxing days here over the Christmas period. Beautiful gardens - the grape arbor is divine. We were sad to leave early because of nearby bushfires, but we will be back. Host Georgina was very understanding of this. Great wineries nearby and Avoca town is lovely.

  • The house was great, beautiful old house with a beautiful garden. We were a group of 3 couples and had an excellent stay. The house had everything we needed for the weekend. We were very comfortable. Local information provided before our stay was very helpful and Georgina was very accommodating.

  • A beautiful place to stay! Clean and inviting, the house was comfortable and in a fantastic location, off the main road but a stone's throw to the township. Beautiful cottage gardens to relax in while taking in the country atmosphere. Georgina was helpful and communicative which made for a smooth, trouble-free stay. Thanks Georgina!

  • Great location, two blocks to Main Street, across the road from a school with a playground and basketball court (my toddler loved this)👌🏻 Beautiful view from front porch over the mountains.
