WiFi!! Tiny 'Poet's Cabin' on a secluded lane in the woods. Can sleep up to four guests. Full bed in the upstairs loft and futon in the main floor living area. Plenty of peace and quiet in this getaway just a short walk or bike ride to the ocean. Take a walk to the harbor or a 5 minute drive to Acadia's Wonderland and Bass Harbor Light House. Far enough away from the crowd yet still very accessible to the beautiful town of SWH, Acadia Nat'l Park, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Island attractions!
Special thanks to Max Ablicki @ablicki on Instagram (go check it out!) for the amazing photos of our beloved Poet's Cabin!! Take a winter hygge getaway to this cozy little cabin in the woods(plow service, back up generator, available hosts, furry blankets, candles, and hot cocoa!), reserve your summer Acadia adventure, or your autumn Maine leaf peeping tour!! Need more space?? We also have a larger cottage next door (Seawood Bunk House... sleeps 10!). Reserve Poet's, or Seawood, or both together for a bigger crowd! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20607357?s=51
Small town, friendly seaside village with lots of local crafts, businesses, and talent. With a personal, homemade vibe!!
  • The Poet’s Cabin is the perfect little getaway! Everything about the cabin is adorable and it had everything we needed. I especially loved the vintage books used as decor! Steve and Amber were always quick with responses and answered all our questions. We will absolutely be remembering their cabin for future visits! 100% recommend this functional, cozy, well stocked cabin to anyone.

  • The pictures are an accurate representation of the space. Everything was very clean and the basic necessities are provided. Steve and Amber responded timely to any needs and even updated the grill while we were there so we could use it. This is an excellent getaway spot close to lots of trails, scenic sites, and great food!

  • Adorable and cozy cabin in a great location. Easy check-in & out. Hosts responded right away when I had a question. Would definitely go back :)

  • If you are looking for some cozy solitude (we stayed in February) in a cabin appointed with charming little details, this place will due nicely. It established such a so removed from it all quality, we forgot which day we were supposed to check out, but our hosts were very understanding and helpful about it. This is most definitely a "poet's cabin" so expect to be reading or writing, or engaged in some creative endeavor to amuse oneself during the evening, as the wifi was not working for internet and tv. Acadia explorers will find the location to be most convenient. Make sure to check out Schoodick peninsula though it's a little further away! Steve and Amber supplied ample local info for stuff to do in the nearby. We had a wonderful time and thank them sincerely!

  • Great for a weekend getaway. A mixture being isolate but also near some places for groceries or restaurants if needed. We went in the winter so lots of the shops were closed but that was ok by us - we wanted to get away from the bit city for the weekend.

  • Great place and location!

  • I love this cottage in the woods. It was a perfect getaway.

  • The Poet's Cabin was a wonderful getaway. The place was clean, as pictured, and has a warm, cozy feel. It has beautiful surroundings. Steve and Amber were also great hosts with a number of local suggestions. We greatly enjoyed our trip!

  • Nancy and Pat were great hosts! It was a fun experience staying in a tiny house. Now I can say I've done it. It was great to be remote, but had wifi and some restaurants around to go. Otherwise we'd trek into Bar Harbor. The house was great, clean, and the hosts were wonderful. The compost toilet isn't something I'd choose for my house, but it was fine for a few days. Great stay!

    Katie2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time staying at the Petite Retreat. Nancy goes out of her way to make sure her guests have everything they need for their stay. The house is in a great location on the Quiet Side of MDI allowing you to escape the crowds of Bar Harbor. The house is a convenient distance from Acadia and Bar Harbor as well as plenty of attractions on the Southwest Harbor, and was a great place to come back to for a campfire at night. Would highly recommend staying here.

  • My boyfriend and I loved staying here. It felt very private and it offered a lovely escape from the crowds of people around Acadia and Bar Harbor that we encountered during the day. Nancy was a great host and offered lots of info about places to see and things to do. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to check out the area

    Kristy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this Petite Retreat! This tiny home was just right for our stay while exploring Acadia and MDI. Nancy has appointed her place very nicely for a comfortable stay. The compost toilet is interesting and had some odor at times, but there were things provided to help with it and we managed it just fine. It just took some getting used to. Overall, It was nice to be on the quiet side at the end of the day. We hiked several trails on the island but our favorite was on the quiet side, don’t miss Wonderland Trail and Ships Harbour Trail! We also visited the lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, and ate at Thurstons and Beals(better?). We drove Cadillac Mountain twice (amazing views), hiked around Jordon Pond and up the South Bubble (hard but fun). Don’t miss eating Popovers at Jordon Pond House, sit outside if you can! We also hiked some carriage roads, enjoyed Bar Harbor, drove through Northeast Harbor and went on the Acadia by Sea boat tour. Everything was worth the time! Can’t wait to return next year!

  • We enjoyed being in the tiny house - it was very cosy (especially the bed!) and so well equipped!

    Simone Luisa2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The petite retreat is a great tiny house! The home was close to everything we wanted to see and do, and we were provided with a park pass for our stay. Nancy is also great at communicating and checking in with you during your stay. I would recommended this home to anyone looking to visit Maine

    Dayna2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the Petite Retreat, a perfect location to explore Acadia and MDI. Nancy was a great host - kind, hospitable, responsive and went above and beyond with conveniences we would need during our stay. The only thing that set us back a bit was the compost toilet - that takes some getting used to! Otherwise a wonderful stay.

    Candace2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was a great alternative to a hotel room. It was the perfect amount of space for two people just looking to lay their heads down at night. The large bed is so comfortable! Nancy was a great host and provided a binder full of all the information one would need, including details and instructions for the house and excellent tips and recommendations for area attractions. The fire pit and porch were very enjoyable as well.

This second floor two-bedroom cottage on the "Quietside" has lovely views of the harbor from the living room and deck. Perfect for small families, there is a queen sized bedroom and a kids room with two twin beds. Explore nearby restaurants on foot or cook in your own functional kitchenette. On Southwest Harbor's nicest residential street minutes from town, this is a fantastic place to unwind by the sea.
Clark Point neighborhood is unique, rich in a variety of offerings and activities within minutes by foot, boat, bike or auto! Being on the Harbor provides and ever changing visual experience. Heavily populated in the summer with an incredible array and variety of watercraft, from the fleet of vintage Friendship Sloops to luxury Hinckley sale and power boats, to the commercial fishing fleet of lobster boats and scallop draggers. This property is 'south facing' which makes it a warm and welcoming place for us during the 'off season'... Our 'winter' home is Bangor where we work in real estate and insurance, 46 miles away, but spend nearly every weekend during the fall, winter and spring seasons! Our property and location is great because there is a mix of summer residents and year 'round residents... there is an active community here in the 'off season' During the summer the bus stops at our doorstep providing free transportation around Mt Desert Island. But when its not we are within a short distance to the Causway Club, which has nine hole golf course, clay tennis courts and a salt water heated pool. On the other side of the Club is the Park with superb hiking. One fantastic hike is Flying Mountain which is only about 250' in elevation and takes only 20 minutes to climb. The reward is a fabulous view East overlooking Somes Sound, Northeast Harbor and the ocean and islands off shore. The trail continues down to Valley Cove on the Sound and there's a fire road returning you to the point of beginning. The proximity to the vibrant village 'down town' adds to the location. The village offers a great library, Harbor House a community neighborhood organization offering 'YMCA' type of programs for folks of all ages, a great bakery, specialty wine store, a gourmet food market, bike shop, pharmacy, and an array of fine restaurants. Personally, the property provides access to the harbors and islands around Mt Desert Island.
A world-class location, Southwest Harbor is Bar Harbor without the crowds! Walk to Red Sky or the Claremont for fine dining, paddle across the harbor to XYZ for margaritas and authentic Mexican or take the boat to Islesford Dock from steps away. Catch some live music and tapas at Coda or Sips, or walk to Beal’s for Lobster. Or call early and order a farm- to-table dinner to go from Red Sky and eat ribeye and halibut on your private deck overlooking the harbor! If you are feeling active there are countless hiking trails and the free Island Explorer bus stops right outside. Acadia mountain is a 5-minute drive, or explore the natural Seawall or Bass Harbor. Bar Harbor, Sand Beach, Cadillac Mtn. and Northeast Harbor are all a quick 25-minute drive away. Nestled with three other cottages in a quaint residential neighborhood on the shore of Southwest Harbor, you can witness a variety of interesting boating activities from your porch. A ferry which goes to some of the outer islands passes several times a day to the Upper Town Dock. Lobster fishermen moor their boats and work off the lobster wholesaler's docks just next door. Across the harbor is Dysart's Great Harbor Marina, hosting everything from commercial fishing boats to world class yachts in the summer months. Acadia National Park, with its nearly 32,000 acres of land offers unequaled beauty and ocean front access. Over 55 miles of carriage trails created and gifted to the people by John D. Rockefeller provide easy hiking and biking to the summits of nearby mountains with vista of unrivaled beauty. In spite of all the physical beauty and charm of the 'Island' we hear most from our newer guests that they were most impressed with the friendliness of the community and the people of Southwest Harbor. Most are anxious to make a visit to Southwest Harbor an annual affair!
  • Great place, on the quiet side of the island; nicely decorated; views of a bay, well-equipped kitchen.

    Bonnie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A great location! The unit was clean and professionally managed. The view of the harbor from the deck was awesome! We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would recommend this location to everyone!

  • Couldn’t have dreamed of a better location for our first time to Bar Harbor with two small children and one teen. So many points of value! Loved our gracious, generous and joyful hosts Nancy and Jon who reside on the property I believe during the summer. Having them close by felt like a home and family setting. Our apartment was blissfully bright, airy, comfortable and in a fantastic location! The view to the water from our terrace made it ideal to relax in the morning through the evening. Beds were comfortable with crisp white linen. Bonus having a washer and dryer as well as a dishwasher. We loved kayaking every day off the jetty and even spotted a pod of dolphins. Witnessed one of the most spectacular sunsets ever! Beals lobster house is a short stroll, the ferry to cranberry one block away, homemade jams and breads just down the road and the quaint town with bakery, popover outdoor garden/ tea house and much more. Topsail is perfect for families and couples of all ages. Would highly recommend for anybody that is looking for simple, clean, delightful and value.

  • A very comfortable space, quiet and clean, in a wonderful location. The harbor view is lovely! Excellent communication from the host.

    Susan2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay! Communication was great, check in was very easy. The apartment is one of a few rentals on the property but it does not feel like you are in a “complex” of any kind. We did stay during off-season, but the house was very quiet and there were other people staying at the other rentals on the property. The bed was very comfortable and location was great, and we really enjoyed the view of the harbor from the living room/deck. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a place in Southwest Harbor.

  • The Top Sail unit is beyond lovely and has all the amenities you need. The washer dryer is a nice bonus! The grounds are lovely. Would recommend highly!

    Kara2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Location, location, location! Great view, perfect setup, all amenities in good condition. We loved it and will go back!

    Susie2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • For a visit to Acadia National Park, this is a wonderful location. It's far enough from the crowds of Bar Harbor so that you can truly relax, yet close enough to the park, so you can easily access all it has to offer. Topsail is airy, bright and comfortable with a lovely view of a working harbor. The town of South West Harbor has everything you need...great bakery, excellent wine shop, several very good Mom-and-Pop restaurants, local craft shops and Sawyers general store. The Island Explorer bus allows you to ditch your car. Beal's Lobster Pound is amazing and just a five minute walk from the cottage. We had a great vacation. Thanks Jon and Nancy!

This cozy seaside cottage on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island has panoramic views of Southwest Harbor and the Cranberry Islands. Watch the boats and tide come and go from your bed! High tide splashes below the cantilevered deck. The quaint downtown where you can shop and dine is just a 3/10 mile walk along a sidewalk. There are several ways to access Acadia National Park hiking and swimming just 2-3 miles away; Bar Harbor is a 30 minute drive. The cottage is ideal for couples or families.
The original structure (the kitchen and bedroom above) was built in the early 1900's and like many buildings in the inner harbor, was used by fisherman to bait their hooks and mend their traps before heading out to fish for cod, halibut, lobster, etc. My family acquired the cottage in the 1980's and spent twenty-five memorable years watching the tide and boats come and go. We hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
The cottage is located on the waterfront in a residential neighborhood just past the center of the village shops and dining, within minutes of several entrances to Acadia National Park. The view of the harbor activity of the yachts coming and going from Dysart's Marina to the right and the lobster boats to and from Beal's Lobster Wharf to the left certainly make this a unique location with endless entertainment.
  • Captain Skip's is a perfect place to stay to get the flavor of the Maine coast. Beautiful Harbor, walking distance to quiet little Southwest Harbor, comfortable beds, great view, pristine. It was our second visit and we hope to return!

    Annie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nothing could top those views from every room! Loved waking up to the sunrise, eating breakfast while overlooking the harbor, and relaxing on the porch. At high tide the water comes up to the porch.

    Annie2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! Great hospitality and amenities. The view and location was wonderful. So peaceful. Right on the beach, harbor. Very clean and had everything we needed. Southwest harbor also very quaint with great shops and food. Very convenient to Acadia and nice simple drive to Bar Harbor.

    Lucas2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Location is great! A short walk to town and literally 10 minutes to Acadia. The house is quirky but quiet and very private. I highly recommend this house, especially in early October.

    Kate2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great location - super easy access to all other activity the Island has to offer. So happy we stayed away from Bar Harbor - way to touristy - Great hikes and dining within minutes. Probably cleanest VRBO rental to date - made my wife so happy!! All in all - could not have asked for a better experience! Thank you Dana and Melissa.

    Joe2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Expect Magnificent view of the bay. quiet and secluded but convenience to local restaurant. Highly recommended

    Tom2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa & Dana’s home is beautifully situated on the harbor with easy access to the water and at low tide a short walk to an exposed island. Our kids had a great time exploring the shore. The house is sparkling clean and decorated nicely. The house is white carpeted throughout. There are newly installed wall heating and ac units in the main living area as well as the two larger bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen while small is well stocked and functional. We had a fabulous time and we would look to rent again in the future.

    Kym2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular setting with huge windows to drink in the view of beautiful Southwest Harbor. Great to sit on deck and watch tides come and go under your feet. Easy to cook meals there, very well appointed and, of course, a lobster pot! Clean and comfortable and a five minute walk to restaurants and shops.

Cozy bungalow located in the Bernard village. This house would be perfect for a group stay on Mount Desert Island. Open floor plan with good sunlight and great views overlooking a marsh. Guests will enjoy easy access to the quiet side of Acadia National Park. 10 minute drive to Southwest Harbor. Walking distance to Bass Harbor, Back Beach and Thurston's Lobster Pound.
Beautiful walking through the Bernard village overlooking Bass Harbor and Gott's Island
  • We had a great stay at Andrew's - the house is cozy and communication was great. We appreciated the kitchen and being able to cook in during one night of our stay. Would definitely love to stay here again.

    Eric2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This home is so beautiful and cozy! It is a bit of a drive from the main Acadia hikes and from Bar Harbor, but is very close to the lighthouse. The location also meant that we got to be in a quiet area and see a lot more of the island that many visitors probably miss. We loved the many artistic and vintage touches in the home, and the gorgeous gardens and views right outside. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Catherine2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew maintains a lovely home filled with personal touches - my boyfriend and I found ourselves challenging each other to a puzzle/board game we happened across on one of the bookshelves in the living room! Andrew also allowed us to arrive earlier than the posted check-in time; we truly appreciated his flexibility. We will be back!

    Clare2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable place and so much fun! Really cute house that made our stay in Acadia special.

  • we had a lovely time here. andrew is fantastic host, and responded quickly to communications. the place is seriously beautiful. i didn't want to leave. i'd stay here again in a second.

    Janelle2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Andrews place was exactly what we were looking for. It was super quiet and cozy and dog friendly! It also was a short walk from an amazing lobster joint. We loved cooking a nice meal and sitting in front of the wood burning stove. Very cozy and quintessential Maine vibes. Andrew was also super prompt with getting back to us when we had a question. Look forward to staying again! Thanks Andrew!

    Katie2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew’s place was great! It was in a really beautiful area that was quiet and peaceful. The town had a charm of its own and the people were great too. Overall, Andrew’s house was clean and comfortable and in a good location. Thanks again, Andrew!

    Anna2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a fantastic long weekend in Tremont. Andrew's cabin was a perfect home base to explore Mt. Desert Island and Acadia with my husband, dog, and toddler. The space itself was exactly what we needed - two comfortable bedrooms with space for a pack and play in either, a tub for soaks after some punishing hiking, and a kitchen with all the essentials. I really appreciated Andrew's responsiveness and flexibility. I asked to change our reservation to arrive a night early and he was super accommodating. Check-in was also really easy - we got stuck in some Friday afternoon traffic between Boston and Portland and Andrew left the house open for us so we didn't need to stress. He shared some great recommendations for things to explore (hikes, beaches, restaurants). I always appreciate finding good dog-friendly places on AirBNB and this was one of our favorites! Thanks again, Andrew, for a great stay.

Enjoy unparalleled views of bustling SW Harbor and the beauty of Acadia National Park from the comfort of a newly renovated cottage. Perched on a granite cliff, this thoughtfully designed little home provides for your every need. For anything else, take the ten minute stroll to the village where you'll find plenty of shops and restaurants. Access to the water is easy for those who don't mind a little clamoring down the bluff. End your days on the deck and keep your eyes peeled for seals!
A small space well designed for the spectacular view and functionality, this cottage quickly makes you feel at ease and at home.
The cottage is perched on a granite ledge above the water and just around the harbor from the village. A brisk 10 minute walk along Main Street or along mostly shore during low tide. SW Harbor is a charming little town with several full meal restaurants, antique stores and gift shops, a beautiful library and the famous Beal’s Lobster Pier.
  • Our stay at The Eagle's Nest was over-the-top relaxing and everything we had hoped for. Since traveling during the "off-season," many Southwest Harbor restaurants were closed for the year. We had a great time exploring the area and the cabin made eating in enjoyable! Preparing dinner while overlooking the harbor is something I will never forget! And those wine glasses... Wow! SO amazing! There was also a speaker left for us to use during our stay. We put on Spotify, drank wine and cooked the night away. Truly one of the best vacations we've had in awhile. Thank you Sharon and family for the amazing hospitality! We felt very much at home in your cozy cabin. We can't wait to book another trip! Thanks again! -Caroline + Chris

  • Charming and cozy cabin with incredible views of Southwest Harbor. We really enjoyed being on the slower side of the island. It was a fantastic place to relax after a long day of hiking and sight-seeing. Sharon was wonderful to work with from booking to check out. I would highly recommend!

    Sara2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage, and Sharon, exceeded our expectations. The space is cozy, spacious, super clean and the views were beautiful. We had the best time exploring Acadia National Park and staying in most nights to enjoy the peacefulness of the cottage. It has everything you need and more. It was hard to leave and we cannot wait to come back.

    Brittney2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sharons cabin is awesome. Photos don’t do the view justice and the area is phenomenal. All of our time was spent on the deck or sitting next to the fireplace looking out over the harbor. It is the perfect space for a couple. Southwest Harbor is a nice village on the quiet side of the island. It is more low key and quiet than Bar Harbor but has restaurants and shops for your convenience. It is just a short drive to a bunch of great Acadia hiking trails.

    Tom2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptional place. Very good location. Change of scenery. Acadia. !!!!! So much history for Louisiana and French ....

    Anne Marie2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house in a beautiful location. We can’t say enough good things about Eagle’s Nest and Sharon. Our family of four stayed for two weeks and it was perfect! We’ll be back!

  • We loved staying here. My son wanted to give it a billion stars. The place was clean and and had everything we needed. Our favorite part was the view and watching the seals in the harbor below.

This spacious 2 bedroom, second floor apartment has all the amenities of home and is located right in the heart of Southwest Harbor! Walk out the door to many wonderful restaurants, galleries and shopping. We are a short walk to the harbor and marina. Across the street is the stop for island explorer bus service with free seasonal transportation to all over the island and Acadia National Park.
The apartment is very spacious with a kitchen that flows into the large living area. Two good size bedrooms and a bathroom with washer and dryer. The apartment entrance is located on the backside of the "Moody Mermaid" building. You are literally in the heart of downtown Southwest Harbor. Right outside your door you will find many restaurants, bakeries, shops, galleries, post office, library and so much more. A short drive and you will be swimming in Echo lake or hiking one of many trails in Acadia National Park.

  • This is a darling apartment in Southwest Harbor, away from the busyness of the Bar Harbor cruise ship crowds, but close to great bakeries, boat tours etc. and still close enough to Bar Harbor for a dinner visit. The layout of the apartment was great for the two couples we had and the kitchen well stocked to make whatever you have in mind. Access is super easy and Shawn was great to respond to my questions. Highly recommend this place!

  • Shawn and Brian's place in Southwest Harbour is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Acadia National Park. The location in the quaint village of Southwest Harbour was ideal for us since it is quiet and much less busy than Bar Harbour. We prefer these kind of settings. The apartment itself is spacious and comfortable and is equipped with all the amenities anyone would need for their stay including a washer and dryer. Communication with Shawn and Brian was excellent too. Be sure to visit their coffee shop, Milagro Coffee and Espresso, a few blocks down the street. They have excellent coffee, pastries and lunch items. We'd highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Acadia National Park.

  • The space was stylish, cozy and we'll thought out. It had everything we could've asked for. Shawn had notes strategically placed around the house that answered all our questions and check-in was a breeze. They even left us muffins which were delicious. Would definitely recommend and would book again in a heartbeat. The town itself was cute and a great home base for our visit to Acadia.

  • The apartment is cozy, clean and overall amazing. It's located perfectly in a quiet, friendly neighborhood with a short drive to Bar Harbor and the hiking trails. It's within walking distance of a few shops and cafes. Highly recommend!

    Kelsey2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. The location is excellent... it is the “quiet side” of the Island, but it does not take too long to drive to Bar Harbor if you need to. I would definitely stay here again, only for a much longer visit next time.

    Jacob2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place was the perfect place for my family. It was super clean and really cute! Very large place, great for our family of four. Shawn had the most delicious muffins waiting for us and even was able to get a pack and play set up for our baby. I would highly recommend staying here for a trip to beautiful Acadia!

    Chelsea2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our stay at On Island Time. The apartment was in a great location, had everything we could possibly need to be comfortable during our stay, and was even cuter in person than in the photos! It was the perfect spot to come back to rest and hang out after hiking in Acadia, checking out Bar Harbor, and exploring MDI!

    Alexandra2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip was absolutely fantastic!! The apartment was beautiful, and the location was perfect. Such an easy drive to hiking and other nature activities in Acadia, while also having a small town right outside the apartment to enjoy. Check in was straight forward and easy to understand, Shawn was a fantastic host. 100% recommend staying here :)

  • We loved our stay at the cottage! It was very peaceful being farther away from Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor is adorable.

  • Great sunrises and sunsets, a warm cozy quiet place with all the amenities you need with a deck and bbq. We loved it and will stay again when we return to Maine.

    Shan2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cute, efficient place with everything you need. Good location and ambiance.

    Michael2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great cozy cabin in Tremont, close to a great lobster pound, Thurston's, and to all the restaurants in Southwest harbor. About 30 min drive to most hiking trails but it was nice to be able to get away from Bar Harbor which is very touristy and busy. Cabin is well equipped with all kitchen appliances you'll need. The outdoor porch was very nice to have.

    Joyce2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy’s place was very nice and was definitely worth the money. The kitchen was appreciated so we could have breakfast in the morning before we went hiking. The entire island was a nice place to visit with several towns that had many things to do without being too overloaded with tourists.

    Blair2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we have stayed at Church Cottage for multiple weeks. It is a great space. Cozy and quiet. And Kathy is a super super host.

    Sally2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot to stay for our first trip to Acadia! Our kids (9 and 11) loved the bunkhouse and we had just enough space for a cozy home base while exploring the island. We really liked being on the quiet side of the island. There were many great hikes and places to eat without having to drive to Bar Harbor. The cottage itself was comfortable and had everything we needed to cook breakfasts and a couple dinners, loved the deck and the walk down to the beach (glad we brought the deet!). All in all, we’d definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends or family.

    Stefanie2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin to escape on the quiet side of MDI. The cabin is comfortable and clean. Windows and doors bring in the Maine light and a cross breeze when warm outside. It had everthing we needed to relax and enjoy our vacation. Surprisingly Kathy also had excellent WiFi and fans which we appreciated. My son was happy to stay in his own “house”. Kathy responded quickly to e-mails and was available for info & advice.

A post and beam carriage house apartment tucked in the woods yet an easy walk to national park trails, ocean, golf, village, restaurants and more. Warm and welcoming, a true home away from home. Complete privacy in a prime location. Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, cedar lined bath with shower, queen size bedroom and comfortable living room. Dining table seats 4 and there is a small private deck with gas grill. Lovely furnishings throughout. A truly unique lodging opportunity for any season.
The Fernald Point Carriage House was off the market for most of 2019 but it is back for the 2020 season and ready with some fresh upgrades and some new furnishings! Photos to follow. The Carriage House is for 2 persons maximum. No extra guests are allowed. There are plenty of maps and guides for your use along with activity suggestions. The kitchen is fully stocked with all your cooking utensil needs. There is a fine small supermarket just 1 mile away and well as many shops, restaurants, drug store and hardware store in the village of Southwest Harbor..1.5 miles away. A short walk from the Carriage House brings you to Acadia National Park trails and views of the water.
Fernald Point Road and Southwest Harbor are becoming some of the Island's most desirable destinations. There are many town amenities, close access to national Park trails yet removed from the busier side of Bar Harbor. Perfect for those looking to be able to walk to town, trails, or to pick up the Island Explorer Bus which can bring you to many other areas of Mt. Desert Island.
  • Charming, peaceful, and great location in Southwest Harbor. We loved the cozy vibe of the carriage house with the lofted wood ceilings, and being tucked away in the woods was an added bonus for our weekend getaway. Highly recommend if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, while still having all of Acadia's attractions within relatively short driving distances.

  • Great place very homey .Had everything You needed in her place .Comfy bed and so close to Southwest Harbor and 15 minutes or so away from Bar Harbor .Cant wait time to stay again

  • Deborah’s carriage house is in the most beautiful location and feels like home the minute you walk in. Perfectly clean and equipped with all the amenities you could need (and then some). It’s in a great location for exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor and Deborah gave us some wonderful restaurant recommendations that we put to good use. She is a lovely person with a lovely home and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!

    Katherine2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very relaxing and perfectly suited for a couple. I particularly loved the kitchen equipped for cooks, down to the garlic press, cheese grater, pasta bowls and stemless wine glasses! Very nice. The wooded setting is peaceful and quiet, yet very convenient for our outdoor adventures. We love the quiet side of MDI. Deborah is a wonderful host; we would return to the Carriage House. The day we were to check-in, a storm came through knocking out power. Deborah was proactive with communication and kept us warm and in the light with a generator!

    Jeanne2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very enjoyable stay in a peaceful location! Great host, comfortable/clean/cute/well appointed space, and we had everything we needed during our stay. Excellent communication, and check in/check out was a breeze. Highly recommended. Thank you!

    Dj2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Conveniently located in Southwest Harbor, which is a smaller and quieter area. It was a great place to wind down to after hiking in Acadia.

    Jane2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, accessible, cozy, and altogether wonderful!

    James2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time staying here on our trip to Acadia. The apartment is very well equipped for self catering (which suited us) but is only a short drive away from the amenities in South West Harbor. The entire place was spotlessly clean, very spacious for two people and extremely peaceful. A really big bonus was the amount of information available on Acadia and the surrounding area which we found very helpful for planning our days around the park. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend. My only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer!

Tucked away a few steps from a small beach and shared dock, Port Garden is just the place for your romantic getaway. Patio doors look out over a working harbor on the "Quietside" of Mount Desert Island. Walk or paddle to some of the best restaurants on the island! The Island Explorer bus stops right outside with car free access to Acadia National Park. 25 minutes to Bar Harbor and Caddillac Mountain. 5 Minutes to Echo Lake, numerous hiking trails, shops, live music and a playground.
Mount Desert is home to endless outdoor adventures including peerless hiking and carriage trails, beaches, and lakes. Enjoy swimming at the pristine Echo Lake, golfing at the Causeway Club (open to non-members), or lobster eating wherever! Borrow a canoe or kayak from the dock, rent bikes in town, or head to Bar Harbor for rock climbing or a whale watch. Take a ferry ride to a sunset dinner at the farm-to-table Islesford Dock Restaurant, or rent your own sailboat and explore Northeast Harbor across the sound. For those not familiar with the area, Southwest Harbor (a 3 minute drive away) is an absolute gem. Take in the sunset over cocktails at the historic Claremont Hotel's Boat House Restaurant. Enjoy some of the island's best fine dining at Red Sky, casual outdoor dining at Beal's Lobster Pound (3 minute walk), or take a break from lobster with some traditional rustic Mexican fare and margaritas at XYZ (just across the harbor). Southwest also features gift shops, galleries and cafes, as well as a bakery, an excellent wine shop, and a boutique grocery. This is the quiet side of the island; all the beauty of Acadia without the volume of tourist and cruise ship traffic you will find in Bar Harbor. On nearby Beech, Acadia, and Western Mountains, you will find old growth forests, stunning views of Echo Lake, Long Pond and Blue Hill Bay, and rarely encounter another hiker before noon. Just down the road, Ship Harbor and Wonderland offer casual strolls to some of Acadia's most precious coastline vistas. Don't forget to visit Bass Harbor Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in New England!
  • Jon and Nancy are wonderful hosts! They were gracious and attentive and gave great tips on activities and restaurants. When the power went out to our half of the island they brought us enough candles to light up the cottage. The view of the harbor from the front window is lovely and unobstructed; that and having coffee on the dock were highlights of our stay. Breakfast and lobster dinners were both easy walks. Highly recommended!

  • Southwest Harbor is a beautiful hidden gem from the hustle and tourist trappings of Bar Harbor. You’re close to everything even though traffic gets a little crazy, but that’s an island for you no matter where you go. Enjoy a popover and go for a hike. Sunrise at Cadillac mountain was a bucket list item for me! Can’t wait to bring our daughter again, this was our first time hiking as a family! Thank you to our wonderful hosts!

    Zach2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jon was very gracious and happy to talk when I saw him outside tending to his lovely garden. I primarily interacted with Ryan and he was excellent at responding to my questions usually within 30 minutes. He also came by early one morning to take a look at the heater, much to my appreciation. The place could not be more perfect, as it overlooked the beautiful harbor. The location was excellent, as it was right down the road from Beal’s lobster and down the road from the little shops and eateries in Southwest Harbor. It was a phenomenal experience and I would absolutely stay there again when I go back.

    Jennifer2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous cottage by the sea. It was everything the description said and more. Spent many peaceful moments watching the bay and the boats. Just what we needed after a hectic time in New York. Great check in - very smooth. Didn’t want to leave. Will be recommending it to our friends in Australia. Pam and Ann (Aus)

    Pam2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our little cottage felt homey and was situated on the quieter side of the island. It was the perfect place to come back to after a day of rainy hiking! The big king-sized bed felt like sleeping in a cloud... I’m going to miss it!

    Jess2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location right on the water. Easy access to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Check-in and out our a breeze and Jon was proactive with contacting regarding these details. The weather ended up being too breezy, but we also loved the access to kayaks and canoes. The bed was very comfortable; water was hot. Great home base for an Acadia adventure.

    Shannon2018-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay in Southwest Harbor. Great location on the harbor with amazing views. It's very much a working harbor which was fun to see. We stayed in the Port Cottage, bottom apartment, which is perfect for a couple. Everything was as the pictures indicated. We were super close to the water and had dinner outside on the patio almost every night. The kitchen has pans and pots, basic utensils, a full fridge and freezer, and working stovetop. Didn't test out the oven. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets. The place was very clean. The house is an easy 10 min walk into the town which has a lovely upscale grocery store (Sawyer's) with fish counter and a cheese shop. Couple places to get coffee. Not a ton of restaurants but an option or two for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each, if looking to eat out. There are also lots of eating out options in Bar Harbor which is a 20 minute drive away. Great lobster pounds scattered across the island. The house was extremely comfortable for a couple looking for a week long trip to Acadia. We were out and about most of the day, but aways happy to retire to the Port Cottage for the late afternoon sun and a relaxing evening in. Didn't have much need for communication with the hosts but their directions were very easy to follow and they responded to messages very quickly. The hosts own a few properties similar to eachother at this location and all the other guests were very respectful and friendly.

  • The view from this unit will make you not want to leave Acadia or go hiking! This unit has a great location to Southwest Harbor within walking distance to its downtown but yet away from any hustle and bustle. I've stayed in multiple place in Acadia over the past 20 years and this is by far the best!

The Carriage House is a charming converted barn close to the town of Southwest Harbor. Multiple Acadia National Park access points are within 2 miles of the cottage. Bar Harbor and the Park Loop Road are 20 minutes away. A perfect hideaway for 2 people looking for a quaint retreat. The cottage was recently renovated and upgraded. The perfect spot for a getaway. 3 night minimum stay.
The working waterfront of Southwest Harbor is minutes away as are Park hiking and walking trails, lake and ocean access, the Causeway Club golf course and so much more.
  • Absolutely loved our stay with Ingrid! It's the perfect location and super cute. Would highly recommend!

    Ashley2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great location for visiting Acadia or Bar Harbor, even if it's not directly in Bar Harbor. The cottage is great for 2 people and has enough kitchen amenities to allow for self-cooking. Finding the location and parking were a breeze and it is conveniently located near a grocery store and gas station. The heater in the unit kept it warm & cozy. It's a ~30 minute drive from Cadillac Mountain and ~40 minutes from Acadia's main entrance & downtown Bar Harbor. This drive didn't feel long because of the beautiful scenery. Ingrid was very responsive and kindly provided us with a welcome bottle of wine. Recommended!

  • This Carriage House was a perfect little retreat for my honeymoon! This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom spacious apartment with lots of natural light is located in the quaint little fishing village of Bernard on Bass Harbor very close to Acadia National Park with many beautiful hiking trails and carriage roads. Within walking distance, is the restaurant Thurston's Lobster Pound. They have great lobsters, fish chowder and lobster stew. My favorite is the lobster BLT.
This newly renovated 1 bedroom apartment is located on the first floor of the Old School House, a large historic building in the village of Bernard located on the quietside of the island of Mount Desert Island and within minutes to Acadia National Park and a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor, a bustling little town with many bars, restaurants and cruise ship dock. There are many interesting boat tours from Bar Harbor such as whale watching and nature tours. In the apartment, the living room and bedroom have an open large spacious living plan. We have an outdoor grill for your use and also a bocce court for those inclined.
The village of Bernard is a typical Maine coastal community. There are many quaint shingled homes that sit looking over Bass Harbor. It is a huge lobstering Harbor with many old and new lobster boats. You can buy lobsters right from the fisherman off the dock. There are also many artists who live here with an art workshop and art galleries right nearby.

    Amanda2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great week, your Place is perfect blend of comfort and open space... ...we thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the “quiet side”... apt was ultra clean, very well stocked (lobster pot!), and spacious—bigger than pics appear— comfortably decorated—we enjoyed Ginny’s art on the walls—and well located for enjoying all things Acadia without the busy Bar Harbor...

    Robert2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and Ginny and Jim's place. Very dog-friendly, easy check-in and a very large space for a couple. It's a short drive to the Southwest Harbor area with easy access to hiking. Would definitely stay again!

  • Place was as described, nice quiet area away from the crowds. Short walk to Thurston's which was the best meal we had on MDI. Overall we had a really nice stay.

  • Excellent location away from all the tourists over the July 4th holiday. Walking distance to my wife's now favorite Maine lobster house (Thurston's). This place was recommended by Jim and it was worthy of a few visits. Location close to Southwest Harbor. A quaint spot on MDI. We enjoyed our 6 day stay and hope to return next year.

    Jon2019-07-06T00:00:00Z

Why follow the crowds to Bar Harbor when you can have the beautiful more relaxed village of Southwest Harbor to base your summer stay on Mt Desert Island? With a working waterfront and small but vibrant downtown both easily within walking distance, the home is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods on the island. It is a quiet residential neighborhood consisting of private residences and small inns. Walk to the ferry terminal and take a short cruise out to the Cranberry Isles or just take a seat at Beal’s Lobster Pier and watch the boats motor in and out of the harbor. Bar Harbor is a short scenic twenty minute drive away but many prefer to take the free Acadia Explorer bus instead! COA parents and guests welcome! Southwest Harbor is a convenient and easy twenty minute drive to campus. Winter guests can witness the beauty of Acadia blanketed with snow! There are many winter activities nearby. Ice skate day or night at Chris Pond just outside of the downtown, cross country ski on the Acadia carriage roads. Southwest Harbor has more year round residents than most towns on the island. Sips is a welcoming cozy small restaurant just down the street that is usually bustling with a lunch crowd even during the off-season! End the day with a mug of cocoa or a glass of wine nestled by the toasty fireplace.
  • David’s place is amazing. We stayed here with our kids during the off-season. The house was very clean and modern with a well-stocked kitchen. The neighborhood is quiet and Southwest Harbor is a great little town with very friendly people. We would definitely recommend David’s place to anyone thinking about spending time on MDI.

    Antje2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • David's was way more than we expected. Location was perfectand the space was amazing. The fireplace was a key addition to winter nights after being outside all day. We would highly recommend this space for any stay!

  • We loved staying at David's home. We came up to MT. Desert for some winter hiking, and nothing beat coming back to this cozy and immaculate house, with it's comfy furnishings and great fireplace. It was so relaxing, and thoughtfully decorated.

    Lynn2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Don’t let the outside fool you. This place is beautiful throughout. Dave has made lots of nice stylish touches, including an in wall fireplace and remodeled kitchen. There were beers and sodas left for us in the fridge and plenty of coffee for our stay. Walkable to downtown portion of Southwest Harbor. We will be looking to stay here again.

    Louise2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Dave’s place for an off-season trip to Acadia. Nice location and cozy place to come back to after a day of exploring. Would definitely stay again!

    Emily2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • David's house is absolutely fantastic. A perfect spot to set up as home base for exploring the island and all it has to offer. There were plenty of tips and suggestions for navigating to various sights and restaurants, along with great explanations of how everything in the house worked. The house itself was impeccably clean, and had everything anyone would need to make themselves at home away from home. A great host and a great location and value. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to plan a trip to the area!

    Devin2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Decided at kind of the last minute to take an off-season trip to Acadia with my pup. David's place stood out from the reviews and the photos - and it did not disappoint. Everything was as described and David was very attentive, although I didn't need to contact him much - everything was explained well or obvious once I arrived. Will definitely try to book with him next time I visit. You won't be sorry if you decide to stay here, even in the off-season!

  • This is a very cute little cottage. it is on the quiet side of the island, which we absolutely loved - however some may want to be closer to the more busy parts of the island. It’s whatever your preferences are. all amenities are included for cooking, etc. There is even a little fire pit to enjoy. It was cold outside when we were there, but the cottage was warm and comfortable inside - heated by a gas wood style stove. I would highly recommend this place!

    Fran2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous cabin in the woods - really well equipped for relaxing and general chilling; cooking equipment and gas grill. Fire pit for making s’mores in the evening! Location is close to bass harbour- about 40 mins drive to bar harbour or Cadillac Mountain. Lots of nice trails to do around this side of the park though

    Sarah2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin! It was so cozy and private and had everything we could possibly need for a weekend away from home. We loved that we were able to bring our dog with us, too!

    Sarah2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Tammy is awesome and the cabin is beautiful. Will stay again and absolutely would recommend staying here.

    Kevin2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great find! Clean and well appointed cabin with everything we needed to enjoy a wonderful week in Maine! Thank you!

    Jed2018-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was amazing. Tammy provided every amenity someone traveling from far could expect (We came from Philadelphia, PA). She offered some great local tips, place was sparkling clean and everything we needed were there. Is a very nice cottage in the woods. One mistake on my part - I brought firewood because I thought the picture of the wood stove was a real wood stove but it runs on propane gas. I don't believe I saw this in the listing but I should have asked. All was well though and cottage is relatively new and very clean. Thanks Tammy for a great stay.

This bright and very comfortable studio apartment is located in the heart of downtown Southwest Harbor. Park your car and walk to all the downtown businesses and restaurants or hop a ride on the free Island Explorer bus to explore the rest of Mt. Desert Island. This studio apartment was just renovated and boosts a new kitchen with full size refrigerator, dish washer and counter top induction burners for cooking. It also comes with a king size bed, your own private bathroom & private parking.
This apartment is located on the first floor and is located in the same building as our two bedroom apartment listed as On Island Time on this website.
Being right in town you will be able to walk to many restaurants, coffee shops and other local businesses. Many Acadia National Park trails are within a 5 to 10 minute drive way.
  • Great, clean, cozy place to stay. We went at the tail end of the season, so there were a lot of places in the area that had closed for the winter. It was nice not to have to fight with any tourist traffic though! The location of this place is away from most of the typical tourist areas so it is nice and quiet. Everything was very modern and clean. Would definitey recommend!

    Lauren2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Snuggery is beautiful! The location is perfect! We had a bit of a snafu with a nor’easter blowing through and losing power to the area so we had to move locations but wish we could have stayed longer. Shawn was great about communicating!

    Lauren2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Shawn's place was the ideal location for visiting Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. It was exactly as described, very clean, and cozy. The homemade muffins from his bakery were delicious! I truly enjoyed my stay, and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

    Amy2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place so much! It was absolutely perfect - cozy and had everything we needed. Only about 20min to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center @ Acadia. Located in downtown SW Harbor with a grocery, shops, and restaurants in walking distance. We highly recommend booking this place if you haven't yet and will definitely be back in the future!

    Shannon2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Snuggery was a great place to stay! It was the perfect amount of space. We enjoyed the town of Southwest Harbor and the 25 minute drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We so enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to any and everyone!

    Britton2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Epic (and perfectly named) little spot for our 4 day/4 night stay. The place is as charming as the town of SW Harbor. Would absolutely return. We did a little light cooking and had everything we could have needed. I'm sure others have stated this, but although the pix are all accurate there is actually more space than appears on the listing due to a roomy, stylish entry space connecting bedroom to bathroom, great for leaving your coats and suitcases, and a wardrobe to hang clothes so there's more space in the main studio. Wonderfully thought out.

    Karen2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Snuggery was perfect! Came with all the things we needed for our stay in Maine! It was nice to get to explore the Southwest Harbor, and it wasn’t a long drive (25 minutes or so) to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor. Perfect stay all around! Would definitely stay at the Snuggery again!

Bass Harbor is the quintessential Maine fishing village and the only true one on Mt. Desert Island. The lobster scenes of the movie, "Cider House Rules", were filmed in the harbor. The area is known as, "the quiet side", of the island without the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor.

  • Location is perfect, right near the ferry, and on the quiet side of the island. Watch the lobster boats come in and eat at Thurstons around the bay. Accommodations are wonderful. You won’t be disappointed.

    Janine2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a comfy bed! The place is beautifully decorated, with plenty of space, and the location is fabulous. We enjoyed being on the quieter side of the island and this made a great base for exploring.

    Laura2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Fred and Kathy's guesthouse is a cozy and comfortable retreat on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. It has a well-appointed kitchen with everything you could need to prepare a meal at home and is right across the Bay from "Thurston's" - one of the best local lobster spots on the Island. Check-in was super easy. Fred greeted us on arrival but left us alone to enjoy our vacation. The bed was really comfy, we had plenty of hot water for showers for two people and the wifi has had a recent upgrade to 5G! We would definitely return to stay again. Also - late Sept/early Oct is a gorgeous time of year to visit Maine.

    Caitlin2019-10-04T00:00:00Z

The Hideaway is a small summer cabin, which is great for 2 people, located on a family compound of 8 acres, just a 5 minute walk into the heart of downtown Southwest Harbor. We are a 5 minute drive to an Acadia Park entrance, and 20 min drive to Bar Harbor. Close to restaurants, family activities, Echo Lake for swimming, and public transport. You’ll love our place because of the coziness. Good for couples, or solo adventurers. It is a small open plan cabin.
The Hideaway is a summer cabin on a compound with other homes. It is a welcoming place to come home to after a day exploring the island. We are also trying to go green in our cleaning products. So we are using up what products we have and then will be providing: Mrs Meyers hand soap Mrs Meyers dish soap Seventh Generation laundry detergent
Our compound is located at the end of the last side street before the center of town. You are within walking distance to restaurants, galleries, gardens, and the town dock. We recommend Red Sky for fine dining. The Butterfly gardens are on the water and beautiful!
  • Wonderful location! Short drive from main sites and walkable to a great area. Love the unique space—had everything you could need!

    Alexis2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Marc’s tiny house “Hideaway” had everything we needed for a comfy two night stay! The location is great for exploring the Acadia National Park. Loved the eclectic decor and the chipmunks kept us entertained while sitting on the front porch. This place is great for one or a couple. Clean, comfy, cute and Marc is a great communicator.

    Sherrill2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect cozy house for a weekend stay! Location was nice away from crowds but still very close to Acadia. The place was even cleaner than I expected and the bed was very comfy. The hosts were very quick to respond and gave detailed instructions. Perfect for a couples weekend!

    Abby2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • The location for hiking was great, 20 min drive to Acadia. We were a bit disappointed with the downtown area. It was a tad pricey and not as much variety as we were hoping. Marc's place was very cute and clean, however, for us the mattress was terribly uncomfortable. We liked how the place was situated into the woods and we even saw some deer from our window. If you're not bringing much stuff it's a great spot for two people. We enjoyed our stay.

  • Great place to stay with excellent hosts

    Wijit2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Hideaway was the perfect little home base for our Acadia trip. Marc was very easy to get in touch with, and we enjoyed making a nice lobster dinner with the supplies that he provided. Hiking and biking trails in the park are easily accessible by car, and Southwest Harbor’s cute town center is just a walk away. Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting the area!

    Lauren2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed Marc’s tiny house - it was perfect for our needs. The location is fantastic - great location base for touring Acadia and a short walk into Southeast Harbor for meals. The house had everything that we needed and a super-comfortable bed. There is a multi-media room on site with dvds and free laundry - very nice after a week on the road. Marc is a great host with excellent suggestions for hiking and meals. Two thumbs up for this AirBNB rental.

She contacted us before check in and we absolutely fell in love with her friendliness. Very short drive to Acadia National Park and to Bar Harbor. You will look far and wide to beat the value, cleanliness and hospitality this place brings. The best place we have stayed since we started using the apt a few years ago. On the quiet-side of Mount Desert in quaint little town of Bernard on Bass Harbor. In walking distance to Thurston's, best lobsters on Island! Close to Acadia/hiking, boating, biking and gorgeous vistas/sunsets. Short drive to Bar Harbor.
These two bedrooms are located on the second floor of our home. You have a separate entrance to access your rooms that is occasionally used to access the other bedroom downstairs. Your private bathroom and breakfast nook are also located upstairs next to the bedrooms. The breakfast nook has a coffee maker, microwave and small refrigerator. These comfortable, clean, bright bedrooms are located in the quaint village of Bernard in walking distance to Bass Harbor (picturesque fishing harbor), Thurston's (lobster pound and restaurant), and back beach (beautiful rocky shoreline good for a refreshing dip).
We are located in the quaint little town of Bernard on Bass Harbor. Bass Harbor, is a fishing village on what is called the “quiet” or “back” side of Mount Desert Island - near Acadia National Park. Bass Harbor is filled with coastal photo opportunities like lobster boats and other yachts, lobster traps and buoys, winding roads, and buildings characteristic of the area. The famous Bass Harbor Head Light is located here on park land a short distance southeast of the harbor. This is one of the most photographed and recognized lighthouses in America. Thurston's Lobster pound and restaurant is a 5 minute walk down the road to the harbor. It has an excellent bar and provides authentic Maine cuisine like boiled lobster, fish chowder, lobster stew, mussels, and our favorite; Lobster BLT sandwiches. We are a 10 minute drive from Southwest Harbor which has many restaurants, shops, and a grocery store. Bar Harbor, the local tourism hub, is about a half hour drive away.
  • Loved the rooms! So comfortable and quaint. We had the hosts prepare us a lobster dinner that was better than anything we would have gotten at a restaurant. We liked that they were willing to join us for dinner. They are delightful hosts!! I would definitely go back.

    Mary2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is the first of many visits to Bar Harbor. Jim and Ginny were gracious hosts with making sure our first experience to the area was a memorable one. Their suggestions enhanced our trip from dinners to when and where to go for places inside Acadia National Park. We were treated like we were family. Thanks for sharing your culinary talents!

    Marie2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful time! The space was clean and beds were super comfy! The king size bed was nice when the kids woke early and wanted to snuggle. Jim & Ginny provided fresh blueberry muffins which were delicious. We enjoyed walking down to the boat launch/ pier and getting to see craps and other wildlife. A short drive from their place was Echo lake, which the kids were brave enough to get in the water. Also, their home was in driving distance to other park activities.

    Sonya2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Ginny & Jim’s place was perfect for our family of 4. The two rooms were great and the little kitchenette was a plus! Our favorite thing were the fresh blueberry muffins in the morning, they were so good. If we were going to come back to Maine, we would definitely stay here again!

    Lindsay2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay! Ginny and Jim are so nice and accommodating and the blueberry muffins made the trip just that much more special. We are looking forward to our next trip!

The Bird's Nest is an elevated efficiency apartment with views of Somes Sound, Southwest Harbor, and the mountains of Acadia. There is a small efficiency kitchen and a sunny second floor deck to enjoy the view while having a peaceful breakfast or evening meal. While the property is secluded and private, we do have our own private wooded trail that drops right into town, where you can enjoy Southwest Harbor's restaurants and shops, or catch the free Island Explorer bus.
Intimate sunny apartment with an ocean view.
The Bird's Nest sits on a Ridge overlooking the village of Southwest Harbor and has a vista that is as unique as any on the Maine coast yet is removed from the busier, in-town atmosphere. We are a bit more secluded, but we do have our own private path that will take you into the center of Southwest Harbor. From your deck, look north to the fjord of Somes Sound and looking east and south are Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, a more intimate view of Southwest Harbor, and several of the offshore islands.
  • The Bird’s Nest was a perfect choice. It was a quiet area and I enjoyed exploring Southwest Harbor. Susan and Andy were great hosts and will make sure you have an enjoyable stay.

    Krysta2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's place was wonderful to stay in and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet space to get away as a couple. We loved waking up to the harbor below, drinking coffee and sitting out on the private deck. The location was great to see the rest of Acadia and the little extras like a grill on the deck made all the difference.

  • The Birdsnest was the perfect place to have a vacation near Acadia. It wasn’t in the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, but was close enough to take the quick trip there for a day trip or to have dinner. The view from the front porch is something pictures can not capture. The inside was extra cozy and had everything you needed for the trip. Suzan and Andy were great host and were on hand if you had any questions/concerns. Overall a great place to stay!

    Mark2019-10-05T00:00:00Z

  • Very cute spot, a perfect place to come back to after a day out on the island. Easy hike into the downtown of Southwest Harbor from the property, and a short and easy drive to other parts of the island, including Bar Harbor and Acadia. The upper level has a king bedroom with a connecting door to a full bathroom with tile shower, queen bedroom, full kitchen, a dining/living room with fantastic views of the harbor and a 14' x 11' roof deck.
  • What a great place for 2 couples to enjoy! We each had our own kitchen and bath, which was wonderful! The hosts were fabulous! Highly recommend!

  • Lovely place. Wonderful hosts!

  • We rented Starboard II, which sat directly behind the other bi-level, Starboard I. Starboard II has a wonderful view of the harbor from the upper level only -- however, also has a lovely deck to take in the view. Great, quiet location. The kitchen had every amenity and was very clean. The bathrooms were spotless. The beds were comfortable, and the common spaces were also comfortable and welcoming. Close to popular hikes outside the main areas of Acadia National Park, and close to the popular sections of Acadia too. Loved having access to the pier and the kayaks -- what a great bonus! Southwest Harbor is definitely much more quiet than Bar Harbor (and with an older clientele), so keep that in mind if you are a younger couple looking for some night life, shopping, more restaurants, etc. We rented hybrid bikes at Southwest Cycle in town (a great deal) for three days, and road the Carriage Roads throughout the Park, which was a fun addition to all of the hiking that we did. I highly recommend Coda (farm-to-table restaurant in town), Beal's for lobster (walking distance from the house), and the Marina restaurant. I'd also recommend lunch at Asticou Inn in Northeast Harbor -- sit outside on the deck and have some delicious popovers! Overall, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend!

  • Such a great place for two families staying together. We stayed here for one week in June 2018 with my sister's family and her kids. The setup of the property was perfect for this as the upstairs and downstairs have separate bathrooms, living/dining rooms, kitchens and putside space. Everything was really nicely decorated and the beds super comfy. The garden and beach were perfect for the kids to have a play around, while the upstairs deck with with of the harbor was a perfect place for the adults to relax with a glass of wine in the evenings.

    Sheila2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Location is very quiet in a residential neighborhood. Right on the water it has a great view of lobster boats. Both floors can be nice separate residences for the group. Seven minute walk to Beal’s lobster pier makes it a nice plus.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Jon's place in Southwest Harbor. The place was extremely well-equipped, comfortable, spacious and very clean. We loved the location and the town. Very enjoyable vacation! Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful condo cottage!

Welcome to your home away from home in Bar Harbor while visiting Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. This cozy, affordable getaway retreat offers superior privacy in a quiet rural and forested setting. Spectacular sunset views and a central location only minutes to trails, carriage road bike paths, and downtown. Saturday to Saturday only rental includes covered bicycle storage and free use of a canoe and car topping gear.
Step inside and admire the rugged cedar and hemlock beams that reach high to the pine board ceiling in the living area. Large windows and a full-size patio door look out over ancient apple trees and a small meadow were white-tailed deer and snowshoe hares stop by. Whip o' wills and woodcock can be heard at dusk and frequently the call of coyotes reaches up from the nearby stream valley. At night the stars shine brighter than anywhere else on the East Coast. Our "Tribal Council" area sports an Adirondak Leanto, fire pit with wood, running water and a picnic table along our 400-foot nature trail. The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchenette that includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, full-size refridgerator/freezer, compact sink, dishes, glasses, mugs, utensils, pots and pans. There is no oven but there is a gas grill with side burner (ideal for cooking up fresh local seafood in the cottage's clam, mussel and lobster pot) out on the porch/patio where there is a table and chairs for relaxing outdoors. Overhead there is a reading loft. The cottage is also stocked with field guides, maps, books and videos about the area's natural and human history. The cottage has free wireless broadband internet, a 14-inch LCD TV, with 200 cable channels and a DVD and VCR player. There are coloring books and videos for children. A Pack n' Play is available at no charge. There is good cellular telephone signal from the property. The Carriage House Cottage at Westard Farm comes fully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing, memorable stay. Our central location is perfect for launching your hiking, biking, wildlife watching or paddling trips. The cottage is located approximately 150 feet from the main private residence on land that was once a working dairy farm. There is an unattached garage in between. The clean, airy cabin includes a living room with gas log fireplace, a futon sofa/bed, chairs and a dining table and TV. The ground floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and bureau, hanging space for clothes, as well as a ceiling fan. Although there is no AC it often cools off quickly at night, especially on an island. There is also a ceiling fan in the living area and standing and portable fans as well. The bathroom has a vanity sink, toliet and shower with plenty of hot water and an electric heater. One set of linens and towels are provided for the week. For your outdoor adventures there's a daypack, umbrella, hiking sticks, portable cooler and headlamp. Note: due to local regulations we rent for full weeks only, Saturday to Saturday.
The Carriage House Cottage is in a rural area with widely-spaced single-family homes. It is just a mile from spectacular Eagle Lake and a main entrance to Acadia's motor-free carriage road network. Wildlife and birds abound. Woods abutting two sides of the property are designated forever wild by an easement held by Acadia National Park.
  • Comfortable cabin and cozy cabin with great location to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor.

  • The perfect place to visit acadia national park!

    Stéphanie2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful week at Earl and Roxie's cottage. It was an ideally-located home base for getting to all parts of the island, including the Quietside, where the hiking was excellent. Earl and Roxie have included many thoughtful touches that make the cottage feel like a home-away-from-home, from a lobster pot, headlamp, and grocery bags, to extra towels. The place was so comfortable that we were hoping that a rainy day would give us an excuse to stay in, but alas, the MDI weather was picture-perfect all week! We'll be back!

    Su-Jen2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was more than we expected. Just perfect. Earl and Roxie are wonderful hosts and truly love sharing their place and knowledge of Acadia with others. You won't be disappointed-we can't wait to visit again. Seems like the week flew by.

    Rhonda2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend a stay at Earl’s place. It had everything we wanted, and some things we didn’t realize we needed. Very cozy living space, and very clean. Earl’s personal touch and advice for using the canoe were wonderful. Wish we could have stayed another week!

    Brian2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home, super clean, neat& cozy. Great hosts! Perfect for my wife and me! Very close to town and all park related trips!

    Michael2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Earls cabin. Earl and Roxie are very friendly, warm and helpful. Don’t hesitate to book Earls cabin because you won’t regret it. It is nearby great hiking spots and Bar Harbor. We enjoyed it so much!

    Emilie2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Earl and Roxie are great hosts! Their proximity to Acadia alone is reason enough to book... 10 minutes. Even though the carriage house is on their property it has been done in such a way that there is plenty of privacy. The place is clean, charming and rustic but not too rustic! It is truly an oasis in Bar Harbor and we have every intention of returning.

  • When I booked Anny's place, I was deciding between her's and a few others locally, but noticed that the reviews for Anny were beyond stellar. "JUST BOOK IT!" they read, or other things of the like. Well fellow friends of the Airbnb community... I concur. If you've found yourself looking at a stay with Anny, even if it's just for one night, don't hesitate and book it! Anny is an amazingly hospitable host. She and her two sweet dogs greeted me, provided me with fantastic local tips and advice, great conversation, a delicious breakfast... I really can't say enough good things! My trip was infinitely better because I chose to stay with her. Oh, and this time I was a solo traveler, and felt completely safe staying at her place.

    Kayleigh2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 2-night stay at Anny’s on the Quietside. It was homey and comfortable. The bathroom was nicely updated and spacious, with luxury touches. Any and her husband were very friendly and quiet, as was the pretty woodland setting. Breakfast consisted of pastries and jam, fruits and yogurt, with coffee, tea, or juice. Everything was delicious! Anny sat with us at breakfast and we shared stories — that was special and enjoyable. Parking was a dedicated space in their spacious driveway. We would definitely choose Anny’s again!

  • Book it! Don’t even think twice..! This was the perfect mini getaway and my friend and I LOVED staying here. Being off season, not a lot was going on and the town is pretty quiet and we LOVED it for that reason. Anny treated us like family and we quickly felt at home. The dogs are such sweethearts and were a bonus for our trip. I cannot recommend this home enough. Thanks for the tips, breakfast and laughs. We HAVE to come back for the winter.

  • Anny is a great host who provided us breakfast everyday even if she was not there. She is very friendly and offers some wonderful tips of places to see in Acadia. Her home is very cozy and she has two adorable dogs too. Will definitely stay at her home again if we visit Acadia.

    Sankaran2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Anny’s place makes you feel like you are going to stay at your grandmother’s house for the weekend. Anny, her husband, and two dogs are so welcoming. The room is clean and close to Acadia and the rest of the island. We loved our stay here and highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Light, modern second floor apartment with deck and panoramic views of the harbor. Perfectly located right on the water within walking distance of restaurants and shops. • This cottage is the coolest! Such a neat and unique space. We loved the bunkbeds and the fun touches - like the bookcases and the awesome light fixtures and the upstairs space with games and giant bean bag chairs. Such a wonderful place to hang out - it was hard to leave to adventure each day, we just wanted to stay at the house! The proximity is wonderful - 20-30 minutes to all the Bar Harbor or Acadia destinations, but it was great to be on the quiet side. One morning we did a sunrise hike on the Wonderland Trail, only a 5-minute drive from the cottage, and were treated to the most amazing sunrise. Would absolutely stay here again - and Steve and Amber are super responsive (I didn't have many questions, but the couple of times I did, they were fast to get back to me). Loved everything about this place.

    Shannon2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place! The surrounding area is beautiful and surely offers charms of its own, but my family came to “stay in” and enjoy a get together/getaway for 2 parents, 5 kids (ages 5-21), and 2 grandparents. It is lovely, full of character, and clean... desirable accommodations for adults, but a dream come true for a group that includes children! Our oldest children could not wait to show us every amazing corner of the house they’d discovered and were dreaming of returning in the future. The youngest did not want to leave. We had a wonderful time. My only regret is that we weren’t staying longer!

    Shelley2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is SUPER CUTE and AMAZING! I really love everything that's here about this place. Overall it's pretty clean as a house and all the decor, amenities just really give you that cozy vibe. I will definitely be back again!

  • Great location, great host and great cottage for the perfect family getaway! Would definitely recommend!

  • If you’re lucky enough to pick dates when Steve and Amber’s place is not booked... BOOK IT! From Mexico to Minneapolis, this is by far one of my most favorite Airbnb’s. The location is lovely and the home itself is amazing. Whether you’re a group of adults or a family with kids you will not find a more comfortable and relaxing space.

    Amelie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend this wonderful and charming home in Southwest Harbor. We brought the family up for a Thanksgiving weekend and didn't want to leave! Great for kids and grandparents. Already looking forward to coming back!

    Scott2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Amber’s cottage is a WONDERFUL little hideaway - chock full of great amenities, cool spaces, and thoughtful touches. Plenty of space for everyone to have their own private nook at the end of long days - with an inviting heart in the open kitchen/den/deck where you can come together for fun! Clean, inviting, plenty of parking, easy access to all MDI has to offer from the peace and quiet of the quietside. Can’t wait to visit again!

This comfortable, spacious waterfront house overlooks the busy working harbor of Southwest Harbor on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Stairs at the end of the lawn lead to the little rocky "beach". A sunny second-floor deck off the open kitchen/living room area faces the water. It's a 3-minute walk to a busstop, and 10 minute walk to the center of town. Within a 5-mile radius are several of Acadia's beaches, lakes and hiking trails. Bar Harbor is a 20-minute drive.
The basement is on the ground level, with both inside and outside stairs leading up to main level (kitchen, living room, bathroom, family room, queen bedroom). On the upper floor are the twin bedroom, bathroom, and king bedroom (with harbor view). Dockside is next to a busy working lobster wharf, one of only two left on the harbor. Fishermen, boats and trucks (picking up the daily catch or delivering bait) come and go all day, sometimes starting early in the morning.
Southwest Harbor is a vibrant little town with restaurants, gift stores, grocery, hardware, drugstore, post office, bank and library, and the Wendell Gilley birdcarving museum. The shady neighborhood streets are an excellent place to walk. A 15-20 minute walk takes you to an old stone causeway, with a millpond on one side and the ocean on the other.
  • John’s place is beautiful, spotless and had all the amenities we could ask for. The harbor views from the upstairs bedroom and deck we’re very welcome at the beginning and end of each day, as was the short walk to the center of town. John’s communication, thoughtful touches and kindness made our visit perfect. We definitely plan to stay here again.

    Chris2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • John's place was perfect, It had every thing you could think of. There was lots of room, excellent WIFI and very good appliances. Southwest Harbor is a great place to see Acadia from. We did a moderate hike up Flying Mountain Trail with beautiful views of Somes sound. A great 2 hour hike. We were lucky to have good weather for October and were able to have cocktail's on the deck and watch the harbor with the lobster boats bringing in their catch. We bought 4- 2pound lobsters next door and cooked a feast as everything we needed came with the house. A great stay and we will return.

    James2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with close proximity to Southwest harbor. John was receptive to any questions that we had and the house was very clean.

  • This home was very spacious, clean and well equipped. Great location to downtown Southwest Harbor and Acadia.

  • This dockside home is a wonderful old home situated by a working lobster company. You have a wonderful view of the harbor and an easy walk to the quaint downtown. Be sure to buy some local jam from the street side vendor. The home is very clean, well appointed and a kitchen which is very well stocked. All you need to buy is the lobsters from the next door lobster company! We had a great time and John was very easy to communicate with. I’m looking forward to planning another trip to Southwest Harbor🦞

    Kim2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • This house is immaculate; extremely clean! Spacious and beautiful. Plenty of towels and linens and you will not be missing for anything in the kitchen. This stay was beyond my expectations. John was quick to respond to any of my text messages or phone calls, a very pleasant person. There were numerous brochures in the house and an incredible library of books. The chiminea was a great addition for cozy fires in the evening. Close to main street and restaurants too!

  • This is a very charming home with all the amenities one would need. The home is spotless. Deer come up to the house at night, which was really cool. Location is great. The Bass Harbor lighthouse is within walking distance. Bar harbor is about 30 minutes away. Acadia National Park loop road also about 30 minutes away.

  • Quiet location on "the Quiet Side" of Mount Desert Isle; we appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, the size of the place, and the deer in the early morning and our walks to the lighthouse. Comfortable, clean, and lots of nice touches. The host was especially communicative in the aftermath of a major storm and a power outage, and though in the end power was restored a few hours before we arrived, she was very well-prepared and even offered cancellation if we weren't inclined to deal with no electricity (we were game, and it didn't end up mattering!). We have been coming to MDI for many years, this was our first time staying near Southwest Harbor, and we really enjoyed.

  • Beautiful place, great location! Everything you need for a pleasant stay, very comfortable and cozy! Loved the back porch!

  • Great house on a private road in Bass Harbor. Perfect size home for a family looking for a week in Acadia. We really enjoyed spending time on the three-season porch and taking walks down the light-house. A national park and downtown Bar Harbor are only a little drive away. Dog-friendly as well! Find both peace and adventure at this excellent AirBnB.

  • Great host, beautiful house, quite location equals perfect vacation. The house is just far enough away from all attractions. After a long day of hiking the mountains or walking Bar Harbor, it was the perfect house to come back too. The sun room was our favorite room in the house. We started our day in the sun room with coffee and breakfast and ended our day with wine and dinner. Even the dog loved the sun room. Gloria was an awesome host, checking in to make sure everything was okay. I am sure we will book again.

    Tia2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We were very comfortable in Gloria’s home. We had plenty of everything already in the home to cook and make our stay amazing. This was exactly what our family needed. There was something for everyone especially because the ages ranged from 80 to 15 years young. Great location to see all sights of Acadia but still be able to stay away from the crowds. Deer run around like the squirrels do where we are from. So many deer! We did get up at 4 am in the morning to see the sunrise on Cadillac mountain and it was completely worth it. Thurston’s was the best place for lobster! We definitely got spoiled the week we stayed here.

  • Great house! Thank you, Gloria.

  • Spotless quiet dog friendly home. Even better than the pictures. Big front line and long driveway to private road, so very dog safe. Wild turkeys and deer in the yard in the morning. Really nice to be on quiet side of the island with the dog. Walking distance to Bass Harbor lighthouse, either by road or even better on moss covered trail through enchanted forest. Also about a mile from Wonderland and Ship Harbor trails-first thing in the morning we had them to ourselves (late June). Several cute restaurants, bakery, ice cream, coffee/breakfast etc in Southwest Harbor, 10 minute drive away. Bar Harbor is 30 minute drive, easy, and our pup was never turned away from restaurants with outdoor seating.

  • Cute spot, very clean and easy check in process.

    Rachael2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great location if you’re looking to stay around Acadia. Clean space, walking distance to everything in Southwest Harbor. Definitely recommend this place.

    Anthony2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Dry Dock Inn was perfectly located for an Acadia weekend. So many local options within walking distance, close to the trails, and the room we stayed in was perfectly sized for our party of 4 adults.

    Gabriela2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • VERY nice suite in a cozy Inn right int he heart of Southwest Harbor. Marty is very kind and the room was well appointed, even including a full kitchen.

    Kristin & Larus2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Future guests of the Drydock Inn! This suite was the perfect place for our trip to Acadia National Park. I stayed here for 2 nights with some friends, and the suite had a full kitchen that was great for our stay. The best part of this Airbnb was the cleanliness of the home. Plenty of windows to enjoy the fresh air, but also air conditioning was useful for cooling. There was also a cute ice cream shop across the street that had delicious flavors! Definitely recommend this home if you need a place to stay while touring Acadia!

    Michelle2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Cute, clean space with good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Sweet view of the Main St. Nice distance from Acadia and Bar Harbor.

    Mark2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, current, with very good location. Restaurant below was very good too. We will recommend others stay with Marty.

The Bluff, an oceanfront third-generation cabin set among the pines, is the perfect tranquil place to get away from it all while exploring Acadia National Park. It was built in the ‘60s by our grandparents, and it has always been a special place to us. We still use it quite a bit, but want to allow others to share in it’s magic when we are not there.
This cozy cabin is tucked into the pines on a rocky bluff overlooking the ocean on Mt. Desert Island. The cabin is a short 10-minute drive from Acadia National Park. Walk into the great room where the picture windows and open beamed ceiling create a spacious vibe. Cooking is at the center of our family, so the kitchen is well equipped: full electric range, microwave, full fridge, dishwasher, cookware, coffee maker, electric kettle, and, most importantly, lobster cooking equipment for 4 people! The dining area fits 4 comfortably, and is open to the living area. We go here to get away from all the hustle and bustle of daily life, but there is WiFi and a medium sized flat screen tv in the living area. We do not have cable TV. Instead we link to the internet for Netflix and the like. Two bedrooms and the bathroom are also on the main floor. A large deck runs the entire length of the home, and functions well for outdoor living. You will find a gas grill, outdoor chairs, and coffee table perfect for all times of the day, and especially happy hour! While sipping a cocktail on the deck, you can look out over the tops of the pine trees onto Duck Cove and the Atlantic Ocean. You'll see windjammers sailing by on their way to different locations on the Maine coast, and the lobster boats come into the cove every morning to retrieve their traps. With a view to the southwest, it is the perfect place to take in the sunset. The lot is private and wooded with a path down to the water, where you can explore tidepools during low tide. The cabin is a naturalist's paradise. We have seen bald eagles, ospreys, eider ducks, ruddy ducks, black ducks, loons, cormorants, great blue herons, guillemots, murres, downy woodpeckers, sandpipers, plovers, porpoises, humming birds, foxes, snowshoe hare, deer, and lots of squirrels and chipmunks always running about the forested property. There are lots and lots of birds! There are also a wide variety of native plants, mosses and lichens growing on site. And you take this all in from the deck perched in the tree tops from the edge of the bluff overlooking the water.
We are approximately 10-15 minutes from “downtown” Southwest Harbor, also known as “the quiet side” of Mt. Desert Island. It has all the basics you will need (groceries, gas, etc.) and some special treats as well (we love Red Sky Restaurant and Thurston’s). Acadia National Park hiking is plentiful in the area, along with kayak rentals, bike rentals, swimming, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, or whatever your outdoor passion happens to be.
  • The cabin is truly a very special getaway. It is a perfect place for relaxation and refreshment in the great outdoors. Thankfully, the cabin is on the opposite side of the island from Bar Harbor, which is a crazy busy tourist town, even in the fall. (On the day we visited Bar Harbor, there were two cruise boats in the bays, and the streets were packed with people.) All of Acadia National Park is easily accessible from the cabin. We enjoyed our time so much that we hope to return. We highly recommend this cabin!!!

  • Stunning deck views - we loved taking our time getting up and out each morning - we could’ve sat out on the deck with our coffee all day long :-). We even found wild Maine blueberries growing along the path down to the water

    Holly2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we drove up the tree-covered driveway and caught glimpses of the cove below, we knew a magical week had begun. The house is serenely secluded yet close to everything you need. The deck is the star, and we spent hours enjoying its views. Can’t wait to return to MDI!

    Tara2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Bluff is breathtaking. We could not believe the view and the location. The place is situated on the western, „quiet” side of the island, which was just our speed. Hiking, swimming and strolling were wonderful, but we would always look forward to an evening of reading, relaxing and grilling on the deck of the Bluff. The interiors are cozy and comfortable and have everything you need.

  • Cute cottage with total privacy and a great view!

    Rachael2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved out stay here and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. This quant, peaceful refuge is exactly what my family needed to enjoy a week of nature and complete unplugging. The location is on the quiet side of the island which we really enjoyed. Wonderland trail, echo lake, beach, bass harbor lighthouse and canoeing at long pond were just some of the close activities that we enjoyed. AND the view from the deck, the sunsets and water were breathtaking! My favorite part of the day was sitting on that deck at days end. Highly recommend this space!

    Jessica2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Magical! This is a very special place and I felt really so fortunate to stay here. It’s peaceful, all you can hear is the water and wildlife. The Quietside is the best place to stay on Mount Dessert Island, you are close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbour but you escape the crowds and traffic here. Southwest Harbour is down the road and has all you might need with places to eat, grocery stores, etc. I couldn’t wait to get back here everyday. On our last day a bald eagle came to visit, confirming this place is a wonderland!

    Jessica2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the best AirBnB deals near Acadia. Quiet, private, a deck with sunset views, plenty of cooking gear, laundry. Went with my partner for 5 nights and could have stayed all summer. It’s on the quiet side of the island which is great for less trafficked trails, local eats and fun driving roads. Host was super communicative; heat was off when we got there but over 3 texts she explained where the breaker box was and it was really a non issue. Didn’t use the 2nd bedroom but would be perfect for two small kids. Book this one.
