  • Clay and Lilly's place is awesome. It was just the perfect place and a great location. They are great people and own Lily's Gold Rush saloon and restaurant in town. The food is incredible and is a must stop if your in the area! Thanks Guys for a great stay. Ron Hulse

  • You can expect a quiet peaceful, clean place to stay. The country is beautiful and my time was amazing in Pierce Idaho. Clay and Lily were very helpful with information and if you stay in Pierce be sure to visit Ms. Lilly's on main street. Yah, it's owned by Clay and Lily where I discovered the clam chowder and Texas toast on Friday is second to none! And the beer is cold!!! I hope to back in 2020.... Rev. Douglas Vaughan From Oregon

  • "Tiny House Mountain Cabin" exactly describes this little haven up in the mountains. Our experience was wonderful. The cabin was comfortable; we could open up the windows and get fresh daytime breezes and cool night air. The furniture and bed were all comfy, though I think we spent most of our time on the porch watching the hummingbirds at their feeder right in front of us :) And after a long day hiking in the mountains the hot shower was HOT and good for a tired body. Greg and his bride-to-be Laurie are lovely people. We were greeted on arrival. They made sure we felt at home and comfortable. Greg gave us a tour of the property, and Laurie made sure we had sugar for our coffee. When you plan to stay here, plan to get away from the world because that's what it is perfect for. Leave your stress down by the river and get up the mountain to unwind and be restored by the trees, wild blackberries, and some of the prettiest sunsets ever.

    Sandra2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Greg's place was a perfect little get away in the mountains. Peace, and quiet and everything we needed for our stay was available. The fire pit was even prepared before our arrival making an evening fire a cinch!

    Victor2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin in a woods. Gregory was great host who patiently waited for our late arrival. I wish we could stay longer.

  • A fantastic, whole suite with a common room w/ fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, a couch, a bed, and a TV; a bedroom; and a bathroom (great water pressure and consistent heat). Everything was sparkling clean and we were given near total privacy. Damon and Carolyn were friendly and communicative. The check in instructions were clear and easy to follow (I recommend having them available before arriving as 4g service was not available in the area). A fantastic stay at a great price. Would definitely stay again.

Plenty of room to dry out fishing gear after a long day on the water. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. This two bedroom, one bath (shower only) furnished 1940's cedar-frame cabin is nestled in a grove of old growth fir and cedar along the banks of Little Smith Creek. It is historic, rustic, full of character, yet comfortable and clean. There is NOT any telephone, cell service, Wi-Fi, Broadcast TV, or cable. There is a lot to do! It's like camping, only better.
Come stay in our furnished 1940's cedar-frame cabin nestled in a grove of old growth fir and cedar on the banks of Little Smith Creek. It is historic, rustic, full of character, yet comfortable and clean. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom (shower only), kitchen, and living room. We are located near Highway 12 in Syringa, Idaho. There is not any telephone, cell service, Wi-Fi, Broadcast TV, or cable. There are many amenities, but expect to do without, too. Inside there is a small cowboy kitchen w/ an electric apartment stove/oven, a ten cubic foot refrigerator, Hamilton Beach Brew Station, cooking/baking utensils, dining ware, and dining table. Each bedroom has one full-size bed. There are two electric heaters and a propane fireplace. It was built cottage style, so the ceilings are about seven feet. Maid service is not provided or is extra. Don't be fooled by the low price. This is a nice, clean, relaxing place. Safety equipment is important and includes a smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, emergency light and first aid kit. The cabin has books, movies and games for recreation, mostly on Idaho history. Nope, there’s no television or news. Your cell phone won’t bother you here, I promise. No internet either, but there are emergency messaging services usually available. Outdoors, there is a campfire & barbecue with a picnic table next to the creek. S'mores are a staple! Enjoy a game of horseshoes. The Clearwater National Forest is adjacent with hiking, wildlife viewing, and hunting. A cool breeze blows down the creek almost every afternoon. The 1.1-million-acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is close. The historic Lewis and Clark Trail is nearby. The local highway is a very nice drive or motorcycle ride. Fishing and rafting (class 1-5) are available on the Lochsa or Middlefork of the Clearwater Rivers. The Selway River (7 miles) and Selway Falls are also close by. It is not unusual to have whitetail deer, quail, rabbits, or turkeys in the yard. Elk, Moose, Bear, Wolves, Cougar, are all close-by. The rivers hold different species of Trout, Steelhead, Chinook salmon, and Whitefish. You might see Beaver or Otters. Bald Eagles, Osprey , and Canadian Geese fly over and nest here, too. Unfortunately despite on-going efforts, we sometimes have raccoons, yellow-jackets and other less desirable wildlife, so be ready for life in the great outdoors. Due to wildfires in 2015, the roof received water damage from continuous sprinkling. We have replaced the roof and one section of ceiling. Some rooms show water spots on the ceilings. We will repair these ceilings at out earliest opportunity. see (URL HIDDEN) The cabin is in Game Unit 12, but unit 10A and 16 are accessible. Steelhead fishing is closed May and June. Spring/Summer Chinook Salmon seasons are to be announced, usually in April, May, & June. The closest public transportation is between Lewiston and Kooskia. US 12 is the main highway. Year-round services are 15 miles. There is a seasonal dinner cafe within walking distance, and another cafe seven miles to the east. Although my name is Glen Scott Swearingen, I have always been called Scott. Please address all your inquiries to "Scott."
Syringa, Idaho is a group of about twenty homes and one cafe. It is in a sylvan mountain cove on the alluvial plain of three creeks, Little Smith Creek, Smith Creek and Syringa Creek running into the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River within a mile or so. The highway, US 12 which was not paved until 1962, separates the town from the River. Lewis & Clark Trail Cabin is on a "Dead End" road which helps to limit traffic and increase solitude and privacy. The are was once the location of a lumber mill, which is closed and used for storage. The mailing address for Syringa is Kooskia, Idaho 83539. Kooskia is actually 15 miles to the west. The area borders the Nez Perce Clearwater National Forest. The area was first settled by homesteaders and foresters. There were cedar sawmills here once, although they are long gone, there is an industrial area used mostly as storage. Syringa, or Mock Orange, is the Idaho State Flower. We're not in the middle of nowhere but one can see it from here ...
  • Our family really enjoyed staying at the Lewis and Clark cabin. It was so comfy and had everything we could possibly need to feel at home. We enjoyed unplugging for a few days and listening to the creek behind the cabin. We would love to return in the future.

  • One of my best long-time friends was badly in need of a peaceful getaway, and that little red cabin could not be more perfect for a couple of good friends to share on holiday together. We felt right at home the minute we walked in the door, and settled into our bedrooms and rocker/recliners as if we had been going there for years. Loved that we could choose to watch a movie without intrusions of commercials or news of the world we were escaping for a few days, and didn't miss our phones. Loved having some of the perks of camping with the most important comforts of home right at hand. Loved that vintage sink that brought some of my own childhood's apron-ed aunts and grannies to mind. Loved the gorgeous surroundings with so many places to enjoy and explore the wild woods and river (we recommend the Wild Goose picnic and swim area for those helped by having secure stairs down the bank to the sand beach and river). Appreciated all the nature books and information about local hikes, parks, beaches, etc. Scott's place is magic. For us it was absolutely perfect. Rustically attractive, totally comfortable and comforting, neat and clean as a pin, and Scott and his wife Pam are gracious hosts. I am hoping it will be the first of many stays for me, and am looking forward to sharing it with my husband one of these days. You could not ask for a more perfect place for 1-4 people to rusticate!

  • Great cabin and perfect location to access the Selway, Lochsa and Middlefork rivers for fishing and swimming

    Mike2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute rustic cabin. We loved the creek running right behind the property and picking blackberries up the road. It was a lovely place and we plan on going back

    Hillary2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cabin and its proximity to the wonderful rivers. The additional amenities of a picnic table, charcoal grill, and outdoors area to relax was wonderful as well.

    Norman2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location for exploring the Selway river and other areas. Clean and rustic cabin with all the basic necessities. We hope to return sometime!

  • The Lewis and Clark Cabin is a great place to stay with so many special touches and so much beautiful scenery. It's clean, too.

    Kathy2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a special little cabin! It was a perfect spot to have as our home base, and we enjoyed hiking and Wild Goose Campground Beach so much! It's such lovely area... nestled right up to a sweet little creek (great to have the sounds all night long) and the old growth cedars and fir trees are just beautiful. The fire pit was the biggest hit with our granddaughters, and Scott even set us up with a stacked fire, ready to go, the first night. Scott and Pam were very helpful, and the cabin is packed with books and info on the area. Highly recommend this little cabin! Thank you Scott and Pam! :)

The house sits up above but you will drive past a few neighbors homes on your way up. Just be respectful and drive slow(5mph) when you head up the driveway.
  • This home was absolutely incredible. Close enough to town to have all the conveniences, yet far enough away to have incredible views. Slept 4 adults extremely comfortably, and the home itself is beautiful. As mentioned in the description, the road to get to the home is a bit rough, and I could imagine it being quite difficult when it snows. However, a 4x4 vehicle should be able to manage it just fine. We'll absolutely be coming back next year!

  • This is a great place with a gorgeous view to spend a long weekend. The nearest town is just 10 minutes away. The drive to get to the cabin itself is a little rough for the last five minutes. The cabin itself is better than the pictures. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

    Rabiya2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home with spectacular views. Road to property is steep and rather rough, but looks like improvements are being made.

    Robert2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place in the area, this is your spot. Breathtaking views, clean, with beautiful decor. The driveway up is steep at the end, 4WD is ideal (though we had it and didn't use it). I would think regular car could get up there in the summer. Jump on this one! Great home!

    Jodi2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful, quiet and comfortable get away. We were amazed at how well the kitchen was stocked. I loved the use of beetle kill wood for the stairs, molding and extra touches. Best of all was sitting on the deck in the rocking chairs looking over the view of the valley and hills. Thank you Kelly for the wonderful experience Coulter Family

Stay inside a beagle-shaped building with comfort and a unique style. Cozy up with selections from our library of books, games & puzzles many of which are dog themed. Light snacking foods and in-the-dog breakfast is included. Wi-Fi if needed.
Stay in a giant dog! That's right, it's a beagle-shaped one-unit inn where being in this doghouse is a GOOD thing and comfortable to boot! Located at the edge of Cottonwood in rural Idaho, expansive views of prairie grain fields and surrounding mountains are specatcular at any time of year. From the second story deck on clear nights the starry sky garden is equally impressive. The famed Hells Canyon Gorge of the Snake River is nearby inviting visitors to explore it via jet boat tours spring through fall. Or explore Nez Perce native history and culture at interpretive sites and towns nearby. Browse the adjacent Dog Bark Park visitor center, gift shop and artist studio where owners Dennis & Frances fashion canine carvings by chainsaw.
Dog Bark Park is located on the edge of Cottonwood, population 900. Just 5 minute walk is a family restaurant. Other options are downtown at a 1 mile distant. Cottonwood has two grocery stores, pharmacy/general store, gas station, coffee bistro shop, post office, tavern, city park & other businesses. We also are happy to provide dining options within neighboring communities. Also area attractions and activities based on time of year and guest interest. Like much of Idaho communities are safe, clean & unhurried which many find a welcome respite from urban life.
  • Cute place, cozy even w/ this unexpected cold spell, lots of snacks for us to snack our evening away, FUN, fun experience!

    Denise2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Dennis and Frances are amazing people who have created something truly magnificent. Roadside attractions and unique hotels/motels/B&Bs hit a sweet spot for me that’s a mixture of imagination, larger than life absurdity, wonder, love, and art. Sweet Willy and the Dog Bark Park Inn manage to pull off all of these with ease. It’s hard not to fall in love with the place from the moment you pull up and you’ll find your hosts to me genuine, warm, inspiring, and kind. This has easily become my favorite AirBnBs in the US (and Canada) - though we have stayed at some terrific places. There are a million reasons to go to this lovely B&B, but if nothing else I’d say it’s worth noting that it’s become an iconic piece of our American landscape. Featured in books, puzzles, web articles the Dog Bark Park Inn has earned its place in Road Side Attraction History and so it would be a shame to miss out - one never knows how long we’ll be graced with the treasures and when they’re gone so frequently they’re simply gone. However, I’m hoping Sweet Willy is around for many generations to come.

  • Frances and Dennis were amazing hosts and very kind. They gave us tips to make the most of the apartment and the locality. Thanks again for this amazing night!

  • Dennis and Frances were incredibly accommodating. The experience far exceeded our expectations.

    Anika2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the Dog Bark Inn. Frances and Dennis provide a unique, comfortable, and really outstanding experience. You would think the fact that you are staying in a giant beagle would be enough, but they go above and beyond to provide hospitality. We would love to come back sometime.

  • This places is must to visit and stay no matter how old or young you are! Frances and Dennis are beyond humble and down to earth folks. David2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Troy was very kind and we even ended up staying an extra night! The cabin is beautiful! I would bring your own coffee though since there wasn’t much, and just know that the extra bedroom is an additional fee which I hadn’t noticed when I booked. We had a great time and will be back!

  • You're missing out if you don't have Alex cook for you! She made some of the most delicious and beautifully presented food we've ever had! The scallops, especially, were incredible! They have a traeger wood grill which Alex used for some of the dishes. The pictures of the canyon in the listing are from right in front of your bungalow. It's a beautiful view and you can enjoy it while you're in the jacuzzi, too :D You might need 4WD if it's snowy when you come. Also - there are address marker posts along the road that we found helpful once we knew what they were. Definitely a rare treasure - so glad we came! We'll definitely tell our friends and family about this place!

    Krissy2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely gorgeous location. The location is perched on the edge of a canyon with a river below and woods all around. Stunning.

The first floor has a living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and full bathroom. The second floor has a large master suite and bathroom with jetted tub and a second large bedroom with a half bath. This home is located in a scenic location with beautiful views of trees, mountains, and wildlife.
If you like wildlife, fishing, skiing, or hunting, or just quiet serenity then this is the place for you. The Deyo Reservoir is only 1/4 mile away and Bald Mountain Ski Hill is only 20 miles away.
The house is out in the country. You can see other homes, but the nearest house is a half mile away.
  • If you’re looking for a peaceful weekend retreat then look no further! Five pines was sparkling clean with every amenity you could think of. The views are amazing with wildlife galore! Our families had such a great time here and would definitely go back.

  • Carrie’s place is amazing! We used the space to hold a yoga/spa retreat. The sauna was hot, the beds comfy, the kitchen well stocked, the space was just perfect. • What an amazing weekend! This house was absolutely amazing and the people who own it are the absolute best. I highly recommend a weekend getaway at this cozy place. A huge shoutout to Carrie and Randy for working with our times and answering any questions we had about the home. We will be back! A lot!

    Sarah2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We were a little nervous about renting a house with no reviews but we took a chance and hit the jackpot. We were the first renters at Five Pines and it is a real gem! Along with the welcoming basket on the counter as we entered, the fridge and cupboards had food and beverages left for us by our wonderful hosts! They made sure we had everything we needed and my interaction with Carrie from prior to us reserving until after we departed was the best! Their communication with us by phone, email and text made me feel like we had made new friends and left me wishing we had met them in person. Carrie & Randy’s house was perfect for our extended family group of ten including 4 energy filled children who love exploring outdoors. It is not too far from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest and It is about 3 miles from Weippe on a quiet road. The area has abundant wildlife and the night sky is a stargazing delight. We stayed far later in the morning than we had originally intended and wished we could have stayed longer. We live a far distance from Five Pines, but we will definitely try and make time to go back again.

This house is close to Orofino town center, yet it's secluded -- especially the back patio. Each of the 2 bedrooms has a queen-sized bed; and the kitchen, living room, and bathroom have everything you need. Watch the sun light up the hills in the morning with coffee on the front deck, and relax on the back patio in the evenings with the firepit and bbq grill. Keyless front door entry. High-speed WiFi.
BEFORE YOU BOOK -- PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING: 1) All living areas are only accessible by the front stairs or by walking up the side hill -- there is no elevator or lift. Stairs get slippery when icy, so use handrail, don't have your arms full, use caution, etc. 2) Basement and garage are locked and are not part of this rental. 3) Washer and dryer are not included in this rental, but there is a great laundromat within a 5-minute drive. There is a small (max 22-lbs. items) portable dryer in the 2nd bedroom -- set it up in the room, not a closet and don't put dripping wet items in it. 4) No pets are allowed in this rental. 5) No smoking or vaping inside the house. 6) No fires are to be started in the living room fireplace. 7) Cell phone service is sketchy except for Verizon, however you can communicate using the WiFi connection in the house. 8) Please indicate how many people will be staying in the house in the "Guests" drop down menu to the right. 9) Front door keypad can be feisty sometimes, so there is a hidden key to be used in emergencies only -- its location will be given to you when door code is sent to you on check-in day.
This house is located on a cul-de-sac which makes it pleasantly private. We couldn't ask for better neighbors, and one of the next door neighbors will be your caretaker, so you'll be well taken care of! Orofino is home to some of the quaintest shops, cafes, churches, and city park you could find. Either locally or within a short drive, you'll find world class fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, camping, and seasonal events.

It's fully stocked with everything you may need and so readily available. SUPER CLEAN! COMFY BEDS! Very fast WIFI. I'd highly recommend this home short or long term and it's kid friendly as well. Plus the hosts are OUTSTANDING. Very quick to respond and helpful. It's by far the absolute best lodging in Orofino in my opinion and great rates too. Can't say enough! When comparing other local options, anyone would be crazy to stay anywhere else if you could stay here!

As an ecologically friendly resort we pour most of the generated income back into our conservation efforts. So far we've converted over a hundred acres of crop fields into bird habitats and food plots for wildlife. When we bought the ranch it had been a cattle ranch for over 60 years and it was grazed down to nothing every year, therefore there was nothing left for the wild animals to eat. When we bought the ranch there were no elk, no pheasants and the deer were sparse. We still graze cattle on the ranch by leasing the grazing rights April through June, which “moows” down the spring growth which has several advantages, the most important being that it greatly reduces wildfire risk, but also makes the canyon area extremely nice for hiking and adventuring. We leave the fall growth for the deer and elk.
Scotlyn Ranch is a peaceful place. Neighbors are far apart and the only sounds emanate from nature. Guests are able and encouraged to walk, hike, swim, ride, explore, discover all three thousand acres. You can self explore or we have guides who can help the experience be safe and fun.

  • Wonderful stay at Olga's place on the Selway River! I could wake up to the view every day and go to sleep to the cool breezes and river noise every night. It was a wonderful place to unplug for the weekend. You can 4-wheel, kayak, tube, hike, etc. from here. The loft had everything that we needed for our weekend. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom spotless and the kitchen supplies perfect for our needs. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for an escape on the Selway.

    Rich2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were clean and comfortable and had many special touches, but the true magic of Olga's place is the location next to the Wild and Scenic Selway River. There is easy access to the river for floating, a river beach nearby for swimming and a national forest road that extends for miles into the hills above the property. Just an incredible place to explore, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the area. Olga was a wonderful host who provided a thorough orientation to the studio apartment, outdoor kitchen and property. I would love to return someday!

    Cindy2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful hosts on beautiful grounds...a true gem!

    Clinton2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Olga and Morgan's place is fabulous, a truely unique experience- out deep in the selway river, overhearing the river in the distance, with the old logging bridge, perhaps a car every 30 minutes or more. You feel a certain detachment from the urban world while also having the luxury of the beautiful studio to rest and admire nature's beauty from. Morgan and Olga are a sweet couple, filled with stories and history, however they respect the boundries of having solitude as well. Hot tub is pleasant, placed on the edge of the property- river in the distance, birds chirping- deer prancing near by. My dad and I had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend. Hope to come back again next year. FYI: No cellphone reception and internet service is very basic to check e-mail/gentle web browsing. A nice way to disconnect- however need to make sure no needs from outside world.

    Sebastian2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Olga’s place. Great location for rafting the Selway river. Fresh made zucchini bread, still warm from the oven was a sweet surprise upon arrival. Outstanding views and sounds of nature! Everything was great, would definitely stay here again.

My place is a cabin with handmade lodge pole pine furniture and lovely furnishings, with a shared porch and rockers to watch wildlife and admire the woods, close to Dworshak Dam and the Clearwater River. Ideal for couples with additional twin bed in the loft for another adult or child.
  • A wonderful place to stay! Would recommend to my close friends!

  • Thank you for a wonderful stay in a beautiful setting! Mary Jo is a wonderful host, very accomadating and welcoming. Home made breakfast, great conversation, and a magnificent view made for a perfect set. Location was super easy to find, even at night in snow and freezing rain.

You can self explore or we have guides who can help the experience safe and fun.

The Red Barn Lodge is nestled in the picturesque town of Elk River. The barn sleeps up to 10 guests and is a great retreat for big groups or families. Enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, hunting- all that nature has to offer! Snow mobiles and ATVs are available to rent across the street.
  • We enjoyed our stay. The place had plenty of room for all of us to sleep and play. The kids enjoyed playing pool and darts.

  • Great place! Been there twice!

    Drew2019-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • I made a lot of great memories in the Red Barn. I highly recommend it. I found the space itself to be much larger than I had anticipated based on the pictures. We had several occasions to use the kitchen and we found everything we needed. The small touches were great - it was fun showing the youngsters how a cassette tape worked, and the wall decorations gave a real touch of the rustic. Elk River itself is a neat town - we had breakfast at the Huckleberry, dinner at the Log Inn, and drinks at Tom's Tavern. All recommended. For activities, I recommend checking out the big tree (1/2 hr drive), as well as the Elk Creek Falls (2 hr hike). A couple of things to know going in - Elk River is at the end of the road, so don't expect the internet. The WiFi worked for about 20 minutes over our 3 day stay. If you're coming here to get away from it all, you're going to succeed. AT&T service doesn't work at all, but Verizon does - though slower. Inland Cellular seems to have full service. Also, the tap water has a strong iron taste to me, so I recommend the import of bottled water.

  • Great location, the Decour was also great! The pool table provided was extra fun!

  • Awesome place, great all the way around. a must stay!

  • This place was perfect for our hunting group. The pool table entertained us in the evening and the open style roomed was great for everyone to hang out in and do meals!

Luxurious robes await, a very comfortable queen bed and adjoining tub/shower combo bath complete the wonderful accommodations, while guests can enjoy the Great Room's ambiance, often in privacy. A full home-cooked breakfast varies from day to day. Have you heard about the resident stuffed cougar?
This Bed and Breakfast/full service lodge offers private bedrooms inside the inn, which are described here, as well as cabins furnished with handmade lodge pole pine furniture. (See our other listings.) Full meal and wine/beer service is available in the Great Room , A complimentary home-cooked breakfast is included in the room rate. Located off of US Hwy 12, in a rural wooded area overlooking the Clearwater River, just 5 miles outside of Orofino, on the way to Dworshak Dam. Taxes apply. The Great Room offers space for lounging or TV viewing, reading, or to host board meetings at its custom blued pine table and chairs which seat up to 12. Banquets for up to 50 can also be held in the Great Room. A hot tub in the Sunken Garden relaxes, or a game of billiards, cards, or board games can be played in the Catawampus Room, which offers TV and a built-in DVD player as well as a host of children's toys and library. Laundry is available there and drinks or popcorn can be made in the kitchenette, which has a microwave, ice-maker, and small frig. Outside the cabins is a horseshoe pit for a lively game. All amenities of the inn are accessible to guests, as the host lives separately in a home on the same property. The Sunken Garden with its fish pond offers a respite for weary guess, as well as a comfortable place to relax and read. Host/owner Jo Moore is readily accessible to answer questions about the area, take care of guests' needs, and personally cook and serve breakfast, as well as full dinners upon request. Drinks and snacks are offered on arrival of guests, and if dinner has been ordered, a social hour of appetizers and beer/wine service precedes the meal. Sometimes guests, who also enjoy cooking, even join Jo in the kitchen with a glass of wine while cooking together! Guests are always asked if they prefer dining alone, or wish to join other guests in a social atmosphere. Jo feels it is very important to see that guests feel as comfortable as if they were in their own home. The High Country Inn is a "getaway" where there is no close traffic or noise. Deer, wild turkeys, birds of many kinds are the only visitors. Woods, hills, open sky, and the river below are the nearest sights. Less than five minutes away down in the tiny community of Ahsahka can be had the best hamburgers you'll find anywhere, cooked to order with the condiments you want! Orofino is the rural town about ten minutes away, with an assortment of cafes, from standard American to Mexican, Chinese, and pizza. The nearest airport to us is Lewiston (LWS) one hour, or Spokane, WA, three hours. Most vacationers reach us by car traveling from areas of Portland, Seattle, Boise ,Coeur d' Alene, Missoula, as well from other parts of the U.S. and Europe. We are located about a day's travel from Seattle or Portland and half-way from there to favorite vacation spots of Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, which makes a nice stop for those traveling that way. A developed hiking trail is located at the Big Eddy Marina, which is the site of Dworshak Dam, less than 10 minutes from the inn.. Several programs are available at the Dworshak Visitor's Center as well as tours. The Nez Perce National Historic Park is just 40 minutes away, with programs, films, and display about the Nez Perce, who were the native Americans who aided Lewis and Clark in their Corps of Discovery. There are more sites of the L and C route along this part of the Clearwater River than most other areas of their travel from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean. The inn also boasts several books for sale or perusal about this era of the Corps of Discovery, which took place (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
