Guests a cabana to themselves and have access to the garden and hammocks that are in the garden or the hammocks that are on the roof. even though guests have their own private space they are welcome to hang out and share experiences with other guests or just simply watch their favorite series.
  • A fun and easy going stay with an experienced, friendly and helpful host. Our cabin was on the small side but it was comfortable and all you really need for a pleasant stay - especially since you have access to a shared garden and kitchen space. Ricky helped us book our Lamanai tour and all went smoothly. He also made sure to introduce us to our tour operator who came by the airbnb to pick us up. We were also allowed to leave our vehicle parked safely at his place past checkout while we toured the Maya ruins. A positive experience, don't hesitate to book!

  • Can just be recommended. We lived in the little cabana. Really great. The bar next door is sometimes quite loud. For those who like it quiet, should know that. Great starting point to Lamanai. Inexpensive place, almost no tourists to see.

  • Had a great time staying here, the cabin was surprisingly lovely to spend time in, perfect as it happened to rain a lot when we were there! Ricky is very helpful and friendly, and the Lamanai river tour we booked through him was excellent too. Stay here in Orange walk if you can! We spoke to people who spent more for a lot less

  • We had a really good time with Ricky. He helped us book the Lamanai tour, which we can highly recommend - we saw many exotic animals and had a delicious lunch. The accommodation meets all travelers' expectations, there are multiple sockets for all power connections. We were also able to do our laundry, even Ricky provided a Netflix account. Ricky's dog Simba gave us a particularly nice welcome. Animal lovers will get their money's worth !! :-)

    Alicia2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ricky is a very loving host, who takes care of all matters and always has a tip ready. Anyone planning to stay in Orange Walk and spend a few days there should definitely go to Casa Rickys! The accommodation, the garden and its dog Simba invite you to linger

    Christina2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great host and hospitality. Ask anything and he will be sure to help you out. Thanks again Ricky!

    Travis2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Casa Ricky for three nights. Ricky is a great host and went well out of his way to help us. Ricky's tips and hints are very useful and he also facilitated our trip to Lamanai. We enjoyed staying at Casa Ricky very much. Thank you!

This small rustic cabin is on the bank of the New River, just an 8 minute drive from downtown Orange Walk. We offer a free ride to town every morning at 7:30. We can also make arrangements if you wish to head to town for dinner and drinks. Maracas Bar and Grill on site open Thursday thru Sunday, for lunch and dinner. The cabin is one 6 on 5 acres of riverside property. If you're a birder, early morning is a good time. Spiny tail iguanas, proboscis bats, other wildlife live on the property
Cabin 16 is a stand alone, open floor plan with two double beds. The room is equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, 32" cable TV, and coffee maker (and coffee, sugar, creamer), and most importantly, air conditioning! The cabin is in front of the New River with a private porch and its own hammock. Kick back and enjoy views of the New River, iguanas, crocodiles, hummingbirds, and even the occasional sugar barge. The New River that runs alongside the property was called Tzul Wuinik Cob by the Mayas which translates to "river of strange faces".
Orange Walk is a true feel of small town Northern Belize. If you're coming in from Belize City, look out for the sugar factory at the entrance of the town (you'll see two smoke stacks on your right hand side). Acres and acres of cane fields line the highways and villages surrounding Orange Walk. We are also home to 2 of the 3 rum distilleries in Belize. An 8-minute drive will take you to the center of town. The street leading to the market is blocked off for pedestrians on Saturday mornings. Take a stroll and buy some fresh fruit. Orange Walk is not one of the traditional tourist destinations in Belize. Come here for Mayan Temples, culture, Mestizo cuisine, rum, and friendly people. If you like adventure, we offer tour of Lamanai Archaeological Site that depart from the riverside deck on the property. More info about this in the "other things to note" section. ....Or you can relax and do nothing. If you don't want to leave the property, Maracas Bar and Grill is located onsite (open for lunch & dinner Wednesday through Sunday). Stop by and have a chat with the bartender. Jason Kelly can show you his 1TB music collection and Sandro can show you his tattoo collection! BREAKFAST We offer a free 8-minute shuttle at 7:30am to our sister property which is on the Main St. Cocina La Malinche is open for breakfast every day. Spend anywhere from usd$2 to usd $7. Arrangements must be made the day before, so please let us know at check-in if you'd like a shuttle ride. Orange Walk is also known for its tacos! Ask any employee where you can get the best tacos and watch the debate start. All taco vendors set up shop at the crack of dawn and stay until they are sold out. You'll get 3 for bzd $1 at pretty much all shops. They all make their own pepper sauce, so make sure to ask for some if you like spicy food!
  • We truly loved our stay at Orlando’s place. At check in we were offered a free cocktail which we enjoyed later on in the restaurant. In the morning we booked the lamanai tour which started directly at the place which was very convenient. We are looking forward to be back.

    Marina2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • When booking this place, one of our criteria was that it was a bit outside of the town, at the river with wildlife around and that it has a fridge and coffeemaker. We came on a Monday when the Bar is closed and the whole area was very quite. They have picnic tables and small benches along the river and we saw birds and iguanas, jumping fish and even a crocodile. We checked in via the hotel de la Fuenta in Orange Walk and booked with them our Lamanai tour (which was exceptional, we had a wonderful guide who found a lot of wild life and went up with us on all the ruins, and what we liked the best we were only a small group of 5 people) we can highly recommend booking with the Lamanai River Tours). It is beautiful to sit in front of your cabin - our cabin didn't had a table, but some of the other ones have). the rooms have a wonder bath room, fan and air conditioner. If you don't have a car, they pick you up in the morning. I would recommend this place if you have a car and you can go back and forth independently.

  • Simply wonderful stay !! It is imperative to go to El Gran Mestizo if you go through Orange Walk. The setting of this "hotel" is splendid, by the river. Very very welcome from the whole team. The employees were all curious about our trip and delighted to know that we were from France. Very good exchanges. Very good service. We participated in the excursion to Lamanai via El Gran Mestizo. Our guide Pete was an excellent guide. We spent a magical day discovering all the fauna of the New River and the site of Lamanai in the middle of the rainforest. We encourage everyone to go to Orange Walk, in the heart of Belize.

    Clémence2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • BEYOND impressed with this place! Not only was it beautiful, comfortable and clean, but the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us book transportation and events. They even brought us room service to our cabin when we were too tired to go out and get food. It’s also very peaceful and beautiful here. Would book again in a heartbeat, and would highly recommend! We felt very welcome and taken care of.

    Kara2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Just perfect!!!

    Viktor2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The river is such a peaceful spot. We were able to see many birds right outside the door every morning. The cabin is small but very clean, and the bathroom is large and beautiful. Orlando is a great host. He even took the time to make a special call when my partner accidentally left his passport at the car rental to track it down! Thanks for a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

    Marilyn2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very conveniently located outside of the busy area of town. Very secluded and private. Beautiful landscaping and river access. Cabin was comfortable but a little tight for 2 beds. We did a boat tour to Lamanai ruins from the hotel and would highly recommend booking it with through the hotel.

    Polina2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • A big thank you to Orlando, his wife and his team for their kindness, their availability and their hospitality. We had a great time. The location is ideal for accessing Lamanai and walking on the New River. A shuttle service is available to get to the village. I really recommend this accommodation

  • Naz and his wife Lena are fantastic hosts and are always there if you need them or if any problems pop up. Naz will organise any trips he can for you when it's possible or he will advise you. The apartment is a perfect choice if you are planning to do the Lamanai Tour or for traveling further up north, this is a good starting point. The apartment is nice and new overlooking the bustling Central Park, convenient to grocery stores, eateries, sites of historical interest of old Orange Walk Town and the bus terminal.

  • This very private property on the river was so peaceful and beautiful way beyond what we were expecting. The cabin we had was small but perfect for two people and was well equipped and perfectly clean. There is a beautiful pool that the cabins front on to and there is also the resort dining area that we had two meals at on the deck by the river. Orlando and his wife were perfect hosts and went out of their way to make our stay special. I highly recommend Orlando's place and I promise you I am not related to them or knew them until we arrived.

    Errol2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The stylishly furnished cabana is idyllically located directly on the river. There is a nice restaurant next door, but it is not open every day of the week. Upon request, we were immediately organized two bicycles so that we could drive into the city. We felt very comfortable and welcome and there was always a contact person on site if you needed help with anything.

    Stephanie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Good place, clean and tidy. Nice location - free kayaks available which we loved and on-site restaurant was convenient after a long day of travelling. Would stay again!

  • Because we extended our stay we are able to write a double review. So read my other text and realize this is THE place if you are going to Orange Walk Town in Belize. Orlando is the perfect SUPERHOST , he did everything to make us comfortable and arranged a tour to Lamanai, gave us good suggestions to do!!!

    Ria2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Do not hesitate and book! We wanted to stay just one night, but were happy we could extend our stay! That explains how much we like it.

    Ria2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had stay here for 4 days and needed another night. Orlando's cabin was available and I didn't have to checkout and check in again. The cabin was more than I could of ever expected and I will stay here again!

In the northern district of Orange Walk, we are midway between Belize City and the border city of Chetumal, Mexico to the north (one hour drive in either direction). • A great experience in a great place to stay, I would highly recommend!

    Michael2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay here. Staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, location was excellent and the rooms were clean and comfortable. There's drinking water and coffee supplied in the rooms which was very welcome. There's basic cookware and enough utensils to cook simple meals. The hotel offers a free shuttle service for breakfast if you require it. The bar and grill next door is great and offers a good selection of well cooked food and a wide range of drinks. The cabin is in a fantastic location overlooking the river and next to the Lamanai tour pick up pier, just a few minutes drive out of town. There's a pool that we weren't previously aware of. Sadly it was closed for most of our stay but will be an added bonus for those staying afterwards and there's work underway to add to that.

    Hugh2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place was exactly as described. Check and was friendly and easy. This property sits on the river way on the edge of town. It’s quiet. We enjoyed the restaurant. The unit was larger and open. It was refreshing to have air-conditioning that works so well

    Von2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Orlando’s place is on a Magnificent location The cabin is truly premium

    Jorge2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Orlando's property is clean and spacious, with many amenities. The restaurant and bar is located on the property, it's right on the water providing for a bit of breeze, your Lamanai tour will leave directly from the property, there's a play area for kids, and they are currently installing a pool which will probably be available within the next few weeks/months. I would definitely recommend a stay at this location.

    Vikki2019-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful place with a free canoe to take down the peaceful river!

    Isaiah2019-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tuesday is a day of rest in much of Orange Walk. Make sure your destinations are open! Also, budget time to get to Cerros and or Santa Rita if doing so on your own as their hours are 8:00 to 4:30. It's easier with the New River / Lamanai tours because launch right from this property by boat.

    Thomas2019-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • These riverside cabins are fantastic! We had stayed at Hotel De La Fuente a few years ago and were pleased but these cabins are truly a step up. I would not stay anywhere else in Orange Walk from now on. Perfect spot on the river in a quiet area with a fantastic restaurant right next door. The whole experience was perfect!

Must love chickens. This is a little house that we built for our son in 2016. It is next door to our house where we rent a room on Airbnb (Close to Town but in the Country). This is strictly for weekly or monthly rental.
The house has a bedroom with double bed, bathroom with sink, toilet and tile shower. There is a table with two chairs and a small frig plus a single burner electric hot plate. There is a private little porch out back. WiFi is not strong in the house but if you walk a few hundred feet to our house, you can use ours.
We live about 1.5 miles from town, it is quiet and traffic free basically, especially when the sugar cane season is over in June.

We love being 1.5 miles from town, close enough to visit our family there, yet have three acres of trees and plants. Easy to get here by local bus, cab, on foot or bicycle. We have 2 bedrooms, each with 1 double bed. We charge $25 per night for each room and one or two occupants, 10$ each additional guest after 2, assuming use of the second room for 3 or 4 guests. There are also two hammocks on the screen porch. For summer 2020 this is blocked but see listing “Long Term Stay in The Country”
The rooms are under our main roof but one enters from the back verandah. They are only bedrooms but you are welcome to use our stove, utensils and refrigerator in the main part of the house if you like to prepare or store your your own food. They each have a lockable entrance from the screen porch, as does the adjacent bathroom. We live in the main part of the house and you are welcome to visit with us, and use our stove and refrigerator. However you can also enter your room without passing through our area and there are table and chairs on the screen porch. Please note discounts available below.
We are not in town but have 4 permanent neighbors along our dirt road. All are friendly and all are Belizean to the bone. Please note that IF you are community minded, we have a friend who is starting village library nearby and if you want to slip a few gently used books for young people in your suitcase, we can find them a good home. ( especially biographies!)
  • Everything perfect, many thanks!

  • Put away any doubts about where to stay in Orange Walk. Barbara And Bart are amazing hosts. They ha e so much local information to share and they will look after you with home cooked food even if you are vegan like me. They grow their own fruit and have chickens and dogs. Nothing goes to waste here. This place is off the beaten track a little but is beautiful and only a short drive or taxi into town. The stars at night are so clear as there is no light pollution. Truly an amazing place to stay.

    Heidi2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara and Bart are so friendly and helpful. I felt at home and cared for which was so wonderful since I was traveling alone. They also set up a wonderful trip to the Lamanai Ruins for me and the guide picked me up and dropped me off at the door. I couldn’t have asked for better hospitality!

    Sherry2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara and Bart are lovely hosts, they provided us with a lot of tips concerning travelling in Belize. The rooms are as described and very clean. The bathroom is fully equipped. I'd recommend anyone staying in Orange Walk staying with Barbara and Bart. Thanks again!

  • Barbara and Bart are the BEST!! They HOOKED ME UP to the best birding trips I took in Belize. They were both so thoughtful and took care of me. Bart is a big jokester and I had such great conversations with Barbara. They really took care of me and I will be absolutely be keeping in touch with them in the future. :)

  • This is the perfect spot for a true Belizean experience. It is off the beaten path, relaxed, casual atmosphere. Very low key, no frills. Breakfast was amazing (well, all the food was great!!) and we had a wonderful time getting to know the family. If you are looking for a very no-frills, true experience of Belize, it was wonderful. Walked to town and experienced all that orange walk has to offer. Bird watching is incredible from from the picnic tables overlooking the river. The boat tour to lamanai was incomparable, amazing value and they pick you up from the steps of the retreat! Can’t say enough great things about this hidden gem!

  • A beautiful place to stay, right on the bank of the New River. The resort is on a (sadly) cleared portion of the amazing rainforest, the views of the rainforest across the bank of the river are very inspiring to gaze at and bird-watch. We loved staying at this River Resort. Pelayo was wonderful. Highly recommended.

  • You can expected a friendly helpful environment.

  • Palayo's was right on the water with a very nice bar and great service. Fun to sit in the morninng for coffee (free!) and watch the birds. Our room was clean and comfortable. The Palayo family was very friendly and helpful. The only snag I ran into was that they were not taking credit cards for trips or meals.

    Teri2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a nice stay in the cabins of Pelyo's. It's directly at the river and sometimes you can see crocodiles. We were lucky and see one in the water :). Also the centre of Orange Walk Town is just 5 minutes walk away. The communication was very good and everyone was very friendly.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Riverside Retreat and can't wait to come visit again. Staying by the river offers some great opportunities to observe the wild life and a large property that is safe and quiet compared to the busy city of Orange Walk. We had fun eating breakfast and watching the birds and crocodiles before doing a river tour to the Lamanai ruins. There is a lot of good authentic food in town and the on-site bar/restaurant is really good if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Raul and the family are always nearby if you need anything and full of great info about their beautiful jungle home.

  • Great place and great hosts! Whole place is really stunning, calm and relaxing. Cabins were nice and clean and the hosts were really helpful with local tips, booking tours etc. Food was great. Would definitely book again if going to Orange Walk.

  • We did not have the exact address of the property but we called the number from airbnb and got quick and good directions to the house. We live in Belize City so we know the standard of homes and this was above average. My family was comfortable. I would stay at this location again if I am with my entire family and we need a place to stay in Orange Walk. Hot and cold in basin, ac in 2 rooms.

    Marco2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with secured parking. I really like the layout of the house with an open kitchen to the living room with breakfast bar and bar stools. Really good space for hanging out. The house doesn’t get hot inside as there is a stand up fan in the living room and A/C in each bedroom. We’ll be back!

    Catherine2018-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The communication with Jasmine was great and the house better than expected and very clean. The house is in a safe and quiet residential area and the neighbors are all very nice.

    Monique2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jasmine was a great host. Only bad thing, which we discovered being in orange walk, is the price was a little high compared to other places.

Our newly constructed hotel features rooms that are all directly over the water, with private balconies overlooking a serene lagoon tributary of the New River, with front row seats to our exotic Flora and Fauna! These are spacious rooms with two double beds, modern private bath; hot and cold water, cable TV, Vanity area, Balcony. These rooms feature beautiful views of a serene lagoon and forest.
We have the Mayan Site Lamanai close by. Depart from our Marina after breakfast, Board Riverboat and head down the scenic New River. Your guide will make periodic stops to introduce you to the areas abundant Flora and Fauna and maybe a Crocodile or two. The waterway opens up to The New River Lagoon. One half mile on the right, reigns the ancient city of Lamanai. A walking tour of the main plazas with towering pyramids and ancient history will transport you back into that mystical era. Enjoy some refreshments and board your riverboat en route back to the hotel where a scrumptious local lunch awaits. Lamanai (Maya for Submerged Crocodile) is one of the largest sites in Belize and is the Maya City with the longest period of occupancy lasting over 3,000 years. The central area contains eight main groups of buildings, including a much-photographed temple featuring a pair of unique masks rising 15 feet tall. Each has been sculpted from a block of limestone instead of being molded from plaster over stone which was the usual practice in the Maya world. Crocodile Safari - This is a night time expedition! During your expedition on the New River, you will be accompanied by an American Crocodile Education Sanctuary (ACES) trained guide who you will be spotting crocodiles and tagging them! Visit the Mennonite Community in the ship yard. Shipyard is a conservative Mennonite community that came to Belize via Russia, Canada and Mexico in search of freedom from oppression and the right to practice their religion. All of Shipyard is private property and the community maintains the roads, street lights and have their own local government. Low German is the language of choice and harks back to an era long gone. Bird Watching Belize Tour Early morning river expedition or walking tour Whether you are a beginner and want to see a great variety of tropical birds, or an experienced birder with a checklist of target sightings, throughout our property and the New River you will find birding packages to suit your preference. During your Belize vacation and across various habitats you can see many of the 500+ birds that have been recorded here.
  • A very nice hotel and restaurant

    Garold2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is it! Super clean beautiful lodge with everything amenity you could want. The best shower I’ve had in weeks! Over looking the river! Lots of bats, birds, crocodiles, and lizards. Very quiet and relaxing. The staff is also extremely helpful and welcoming. We had such a nice time here and I highly recommend!

    Katherine2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The hotel is beautiful and right on the water with a restaurant on site. All you need. The tour company with trips to Lamanai is minutes away. Very easy to arrange. The hospitality by all staff was top notch. I am a solo female traveler. The local bus from Belize City dropped me at the door of the hotel, as it is on the bus route. There was a gentleman on staff that assisted me in catching an early bus back to Belize City as well. So convenient, and very easy as a solo traveler. Highly recommend this hotel.

    Laura2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great views from the rooms and restaurant. Staff was, as expected in Belize, very warm and friendly. All of our requests were met with a smile and a solution. The tour from there to the ruins was well worth it. Spotted a few Crocs along the way, some cool birds and great views. The staff was awesome though out our stay, keep up the good work!

  • The stay was great. The rooms are very nice with a view of the lagoon. At the reception they are very helpful for the organization of excursions. Only the food was a little below our expectations.

    Zita2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very well maintained resort, super nice staff that answered all our questions and booked the tour to Lamanai for us. The lagoon where the hotel is located is very nice. Unfortunately, the crocodiles did not want to show us. For this we got to see a number of other animals. The food in the hotel is really good and fresh, but everything had to be paid on top - including the breakfast. This should be aware when booking through Air BnB. For us it was two very relaxing days and a great starting point for the tour to Lamanai. We would come back and hope to see a crocodile: D

    Romy2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Roannie's accommodation was perfect for the visit to Lamanai. The views of the lake are beautiful and we were well looked after with breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff, allowed us to check-out a little later than established. Totally recommended

  • Having been to Belize many times and known how bad some of the living conditions can be, this place floored me with how nice it is inside. Showers are huge and the bedrooms are broke up into 3 spectate areas and with locks. Might be the nicest home I have been in, while in Belize. Rosemary’s communication was great and was able to accommodate an early check in. Highly recommend this place and not even going to look else where if I need to stay in Orange Walk again.
