Our rustic River Houseboat is on the edge of the Pootatuck River on our lower pond, in close proximity to our beautiful stone barn. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
Our rustic River Houseboat is on the edge of the Pootatuck River on our lower pond. The Houseboat has a comfy queen bed and a screened porch complete with two antique rocking chairs. The River Houseboat is often preferred because it is located close to the main Stone Barn and parking lot. The Stone Barn is open 24 hours and has a hot shower, toilet, and common room with internet and books. Keep in mind that because this cabin is located at the base of the mountain it is not as secluded as the other cabins. The Stone Barn has a grill outside and a full kitchen inside that guests are welcome to use. There is also a fully equipped Rustic Kitchen located at the top of the mountain. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are located a one minute walk away in the Stone Barn -There is a small fire pit located near the cabin. -Candles are not allowed in the cabins Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you! We ask that all guests arrive before dark. Guests arriving after 10pm will be required to pay an additional $20 late check in fee in cash upon arrival. We apologize but we must enforce this even if you are late due to circumstances out of you control. It’s simple living at its best. We're just over one hour from NYC but local folks love us too. We are an easy, inexpensive "staycation" and many use us frequently as their guest "bedroom" when out of town family or friends come. We offer a unique setting for your summer get-a-way or family reunion. There is a communal Rustic Kitchen on the top of the mountain ideally situated between the Pagoda cabin, Mtn. Laurel cabin and Summit cabin. The kitchen has cookware, plates, french press, utensils, a stove, grill, coolers with ice, olive oil, salt/pepper, drinking water and a sink with running water (not potable)! Lighting is limited and we always encourage people to bring their own additional lighting. There is also a fully equipped communal kitchen located in the Stone Barn at the base of the mountain which guests are welcome to use. We do not provide breakfast at this time. There are three large designated fire pits on the property. Some cabins also have their own fire pits which is noted in their individual descriptions. Fires are not allowed to be made in non-designated places! Please Note per Connecticut state law - firewood cannot be brought in from out of the state.  Upon arrival we will provide you with a map and your own cooler with ice. We allow our guests to drive their belongings up to their cabin at check in and upon check out but cars must be parked below in designated parking areas. Please remember that during your stay you will be traveling on foot! Most of the cabins are a 10-25 minute walk through the woods, depending on your speed. The River Houseboat and Little House are at the base of the mountain next to the stone barn and parking area so very little walking is required. We restock ice and other goods daily and thus try to make ourselves as available and accommodating to changing needs as possible - we have some individuals living on the property who can be available in case of emergency. Important Things to Note: -Verizon wireless is the only network to have service throughout the property. Nearly all other providers have service on the top of the mountain where the majority of our cabins are located.  -Dogs are not allowed to stay in any of our cabins. -Please be advised that we are not solely a Bed and Breakfast; we are a working farm and while we aim to accommodate you as best as possible, there are sometimes other events going on that may affect your stay. We recommend you check our calendar of events prior to booking. Sometimes our guests enjoy participating! -There is a shower inside the stone barn, as well as two outdoor showers located near the Rustic Kitchen area at the top of the mountain. - An outhouse that is cleaned weekly is located near the Rustic kitchen, Mtn. Laurel cabin, Summit cabin and Pagoda cabin and a two room state of the art composting toilet is shared between the Solar cabin and Log cabin - both a one minute walk away - We have a wilderness camp that runs Monday - Friday from 9am - 3pm during the summer. Campers and staff respect the privacy of the cabins but you might see some groups of children building forts or playing games throughout the forest  - Please be aware that depending on rain fall the property is at risk of drought in the late summer. This can sometimes cause the pond levels to drop making it less scenic for some. - None of the cabins except the River House Boat and Little House have electric- fans are provided in these cabins - There is a Stop and Shop grocery store located 2.5 miles from the farm - If you are arriving via metro north you want to get off at Bridgeport and from there you can get a driving service for the 30-minute ride to the farm (i.e. Uber, Lyft etc.). - We do have wi-fi in the main stone barn that reaches the Little House and the River houseboat. - There are two cats that live on the property in our near the stone barn.
Though there is lots to do in the towns of Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm, most guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • The little boat house is lovely! Tiny but very close to the main house and all the things you need. We had a lovely time and already want to come back!

  • This is such a special location. Very relaxing. The houseboat is a cute little hideaway. Take some time to hike around the area. It’s lovely.

  • The houseboat was a great stay! It's not actually floating on the water, but sits its pontoons on the edge of the pond. It has a wonderful patio and the inside is cozy and protected from the elements, while you still experience the peaceful nature outside. The houseboat is very close to the stone barn which has easy access to the kitchen, wifi, bathrooms, and showers which was a big plus. There are benches and chairs around are wonderful to relax in (and play with the cats that wander around). The extended property is beautiful! We walked along the river and hiked up to the summit and fairy gazebo which has excellent views! Definitely recommend. James was an excellent host! He was friendly and helpful, and he definitely made sure our stay was pleasant.

  • My husband and I had our honeymoon at the farm and had a blast!! We enjoyed conversations with the rotating cast of characters who live and visit the farm, walks along the serene Moss Mountain, and watching wildlife. The houseboat was extremely charming and cozy. The bathroom and kitchen are separate from the houseboat, but less than a minute walk. Bill and James were very friendly, interesting, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We’re already planning our next stay at Sticks and Stones Farm.

  • What a beautiful space to collect your thoughts! Sticks and stones was the perfect relaxation my mother and I needed from our daily lives. Sitting in the screen porch listening to frogs every night with candlelight was so relaxing. It's the perfect spot if you enjoy quiet or need some inspiration for art. The best and most unusual part was waking up with llamas walking past your window hahaha. If able, I do recommend the hike to the top to see moss mountain and the fairy lookout. Very beautiful and quite magical with the unique structures on the hike. The owners respected our private time but were also very accommodating when we had any questions. Lovely staff and lovely place.

    Sarah2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly unique and amazing place, and the staff is so well suited to enhancing the peaceful, fun-loving vibe. I stayed on the houseboat (which is not actually floating, just close enough to marshes to hear the frogs jumping in the water along with the peaceful sound of a small and gentle waterfall), and Ii you're not sure how you feel about the rustic cabins and their location further up the mountain, I highly recommend staying on the boat for a few days to check things out. Boat is located conveniently to parking and the stone barn, which is the hub of the entire place. Convenience (nearby bathroom with shower, large commercial kitchen, wifi) AND amazing solitude (after 3 pm! summer camp takes place on the property til then, but I found the sounds from the campers to be joyful and energizing!) The bed on the houseboat is comfy, and while I was travelling solo, I felt completely safe and secure on this magical property.

  • Great "camping" for cityfolk/beginners! Since I'm not experienced in the outdoors, I liked having a roof over my head and access to a kitchen/bathroom/etc. Nice to have lots of friendly people nearby too, just in case. The riverboat house is peaceful and rustic - enjoy the relaxing view of the pond and waterfall.

  • You need a break, you need to relax, you need some fresh air, I’ll recommend you this place. This place is just incredible, the cabin is soooo beautiful, those people are so nice, everything was perfect. I want to go back as soon as I can

  • JoJo and Phil gave excellent hospitality in a space highly designed for creative work.

    Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • JoJo and Phil's place is amazing. I went there and really allowed myself to absorb the idyllic serene and interesting space. The art supplies, yoga studio with mats and drums and bells... lovely. I love to be ensconced in a bed with a heavy cotton comforter and was not disappointed here. The soap stone sink was rustic and clear and clean. Working at the art drafting table, felt really grounding. I loved it all! JoJo showed me around with no fuss, and then left me to my own retreat. So lovely!! I look forward to my next visit to Newtown.

Just across from our beautiful stone and moss labyrinth, this unique "spaceship" style cabin built on an old pontoon boat offers peace and seclusion with only the babbling brook to hear. It's also our only dog-friendly cabin. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property. Please respect and adhere to this policy.
This unique "spaceship" built on an old pontoon boat will be sure to offer seclusion with only the babbling brook to hear. The lodge is screened and glassed in. Think of it as a glorified tent! It can be rather creaky because it is made of recycled materials but the integrity of the structure is sound. The bed is lofted 10 feet off the ground and is accessible only by a ladder. Also please be advised that the bathroom and shower facilities are located a few minute walk away in the stone barn. This cabin has small LED lights and drinking water. The lodge has a stone table and chairs, a private fire pit and a small charcoal grill. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are located a few minute walk away in the Stone Barn Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you!   We ask that all guests arrive before dark   Guests arriving after 10pm will be required to pay an additional $20 late check in fee in cash upon arrival. We apologize but we must enforce this even if you are late due to circumstances out of you control. • Our plans changed and we didn’t get to stay here, but looks like a nice place.

    Justin2018-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay and experience at Sticks and Stones exceeded all expectations! The hosts were so incredibly kind and informative. Our cabin was immaculate, private, beautiful, and relaxing. The amenities available (kitchen, cooking utensils, food, etc.) made the stay even more relaxing and enjoyable. The property itself is gorgeous. There are tons of hiking trails, a labyrinth and a swimming hole. Everything is gorgeous and well taken care of. If you’re looking for a weekend away or a romantic getaway this place is perfect! I HIGHLY recommend!

  • What a gem!

  • Can’t say how lovely Sticks and Stones is. The setting is so beautiful and words don’t do justice. This really is the best kept secret! Lovely hosts, incredibly relaxing atmosphere, etc. Truly cannot wait to come back again.

An adorable cabin for one person in close proximity to our main barn with all of the amenities you might need. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
You will love this one room miniature cabin nestled next to our front pond and the Pootatuck River. It is darling with a 6' long single bed, dresser, lamp, two windows for cross ventilation and a front door that looks out on the pond and waterfall. We provide towels and drinking water in the cabins. PLEASE keep in mind this cabin is very very small and can only accommodate one person whom is LESS than 6 feet tall. The Little House is located between the Stone Barn and River House Boat so while it is easily accessible it is not as private as other cabins. We cannot guarantee that there will not be something going on at the stone barn during your stay so we advise you to check with us before booking if that is a concern. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are located next door in the Stone Barn.
Though there is lots to do in the town of Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm, most guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • I stayed near the Stone Barn, which has a wonderful communal feel about it. There are many more areas to explore!

    Michael2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I was on a bike journey from Ottawa to Florida when I stayed here. It was way more than I expected for sure! I’m so happy I got to stay here while exploring Connecticut! Being here made my bike trip so much more amazing, the nature at sticks and stones farm is exactly what everyone wants to find! And the people working there are amazing! The bed was so comfortable! I’ll definitely be back with my friends and family for a longer stay!

    Forest2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for someone that wants to step away from reality into nature. the waterfall pond outside is very relaxing to fall asleep to. You can hear all the animals, and during the week they have llamas hiking through the woods with a third party company. I was able to bring my ESA dog which was great. Amazing trails on site for families and beginners, with a moss garden and a large organic garden for a local pantry. There are lots of hidden spots to sit and relax throughout the property. I spent 3 days here and did not have to leave, food can be delivered. The kitchen in the beautiful stone barn is fully equipped and very large since it is used to feed camps. The shower is very clean since it is shared with someone that lives on property year-round. Keep in mind, the listing is a shed turned into tiny home, it has a fan and light but the bed can only fit someone 5'5 and under, most likely not two people comfortably.

    Calia2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome little cabin in front of a beautiful pond situated near the stone barn. Would definitely recommend and return. Had a great time and the cabin was very clean

    Alexander2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The little house is so cozy. An amazing experience for a solo traveller. If you're worried about feeling spooked the wi-fi is a great backup help.

    Maya2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing space for a personal or group retreat with various cabins to unplug and recharge. The grounds are beautiful with hiking trails, gardens, a labyrinth, moss walk, and a yoga/ meditation studio available in the main barn area. The community style kitchen was clean and well organized with space in the fridge for guests to store and prep their food. This was a bright and friendly space, and am thankful to have the opportunity to have shared this space.

    Megan2018-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic peace and tranquility. Slept to the sound of the waterfall and crickets, watched over by the Buddha, stretched out in the yoga class.

    Nancy2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The little cabin was just what I needed and sticks and stones farm was the perfect magical place to re-connect with myself. Sam was an amazing host and if you are lucky enough to meet here, you will certainly understand. Everything was just perfect...for me :)

You’ll love our place because of the ambiance and beauty of an 1890 Victorian home. An elegant and comfortable spot for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. You over look a peaceful pond, a yard that beckons a picnic, barbecue or simply relaxing. For bicyclists we are right in the midst of popular Fairfield County routes and we store your bikes in our garage.
This house radiates old Victorian charm with the convenience of modern amenities. It has a compact warm, very stylish kitchen with the most up to date appliances, a cozy living room, a working comfortable office and inviting quiet master bedroom. An elegant compact retreat.
We are in the midst of New England grace, within walking distance to a country deli. Easy to reach all of Western Connecticut and 70 miles to Manhattan. A private elementary and preschool is nearby as are old colonials, horse farms and early churches. We have great dining nearby, from take outs to gourmet. We will be delighted to share our favorites.
  • Outstanding hospitality in a great location. We'll be back!

  • We have stayed here many times and always enjoy it. Charlie is a great host and the apartment is beautiful in any season.

    Connie2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely upstairs apartment with a beautiful yard. The hosts are welcoming and helpful if needed. We wish we could have stayed longer to see the falls colors on the many beautiful trees. This is a very pretty area of Connecticut!

    Connie2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • THis house was truly more than I expected, Charlie and Cathy were the most welcoming hosts. The house was impeccably clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable - especially the bed! They were so kind, they left a welcoming pastry for me in the refridge - plus everything else you would need to cook with and coffee/tea for breakfast! I will definitely reserve this home again!

    Tina2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie and Cathy really go above and beyond with their great hospitality and details throughout their place. They are inviting and helpful with recommendations for places to eat or visit. They include small touches that make you feel at home there. Absolutely a wonderful stay!

    Melissa2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, clean pace to stay--their house is so unique and charming. Charlie and Cathy are incredibly friendly! I was preparing my friends cupcakes for their wedding and they didn't mind that I was doing that at all! Would love to stay here again!

  • Charlie made us feel totally welcome. The apartment was spacious and had all the amenities one might need. It was thoughtfully decorated and very homey. It was conveniently located to the center of town with restaurants nearby and even a yoga studio!

  • This studio is such a gift to anybody who discovers it. The little touches and attention to detail truly make this place a wonderful and comfortable place to stay. It was very clean, with plenty of extra toiletries in case you forgot something. The guidebook they provide is very detailed and can lead you to many local attractions. Very quiet and peaceful neighborhood, we absolutely loved our stay, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing retreat! Thank you Gloria and Gary! 😊

  • The house was lovely and in a great location. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Alexandra2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Place was exactly as advertised. Beautiful and very clean. Very well priced and the hosts were quick to respond. Self checkin was easy and I was able to have a late checkout as well. Highly recommend!

    Caleb2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Gloria and Gary were fantastic hosts! They are very friendly and walked us through the space when we arrived and came to say goodbye when we left. There was a binder and guest book full of reviews that were very informative about the area. Even in winter, there was lots to do. One downside, maybe, is that the activities were not walkable. You need a car to get around.

This beautiful stone cabin is nestled just above our spring fed hilltop pond at the end of our main mountain road. It is considered the "fanciest" cabin on our property, featuring wide plank wood floors, oriental style carpets and a private deck. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
This stone cabin has a queen bed, two twin beds and a double futon couch that can be pulled out for extra sleeping space. The beds are made and towels are provided. The large deck is perfect for getting a good dose of the outdoors, star gazing and some quality R&R. On the deck is a propane grill, umbrella, table and chairs. This cabin has a stove, basic cooking supplies, tin foil and a rubbermaid tub for washing dishes. Drinking water is provided and there is running water in the nearby composting bathroom for washing dishes. The kitchen is equipped with a french press for coffee (bring pre-ground!), a teapot, mugs, drinking water, utensils, a small pot, skillet, salt/pepper and oil. There is currently no electric in this cabin. We will provide battery powered lighting. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are a few minute walk away on a path through the woods and are located separately. -There is a large sunken bonfire pit located about 200 feet from the cabin. Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you!
There is lots to do in the towns surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm; Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, but most of our guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • Highly recommend Sticks and Stones! This is my second time staying there off season and I (and my guests) were treated with the utmost care and attention. Bill was very communicative for several weeks prior, explaining the pros/cons of different cabins; we actually switched to the Tulip cabin given that it was insulated and therefore warmer during the colder months, per Bill's suggestion. It was the right move! We loved the Tulip cabin. It was cozy and perfectly warm. We were given plenty of wood to keep the fire going and James was great all weekend long. He heated the communal kitchen for us, which we used the heck out of for our Thanksgiving meal. We strolled/hiked about the property for two days, completely enjoying the retreat. Every person at Sticks and Stones is friendly, attentive, and super chill. I love this place and can't wait to come back!

  • If you’re looking to get off the grid for some peace and quiet in a laid back, rustic environment, Sticks and Stones Farm is the spot. We loved our weekend stay in the Grand Cabin. We enjoyed hiking the trails, the outdoor shower, walking the labyrinth, visiting with other guests and residents. What a relaxing and magical place! We look forward to visiting again.

    Heidi2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • A great getaway forest farm for a weekend or maybe even longer. Not having electricity requires some preparation on guests' part but o so refreshing. Plenty of walking area and a nice sense of seclusion. We had a great relaxing weekend with friends.

    Vasily2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • The host was very friendly and considerate. He was very responsive to our camping needs. The location of this camp site was better than I expected. It has a wonderful driving distance to other attractions like National State parks, the zoo, beaches, fabulous restaurants and cafes. The cabin is so heavenly especially in the mornings! Classic camping! This cabin is highly recommended for those who love the challenges of camping.

    Fatimah2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is beautifully built and decorated and the rest of the property, the other structures, landscape and stonework, is like a cross between a nature retreat and a sculpture park. We really enjoyed hiking around and discovering all the interesting features. Even though it’s close to many things it feels remote. The cabin had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We’re planning on returning in the Fall.

    Sandy2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! Quick to reply & quick to rescue (our windows were screwed in, we couldn't open them for air - they took care of it immediately). No lights or electricity! If you cannot spend a night without lights or electricity, don't go. Great experience - like they said, it's a simple living.

    Ashley2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Sticks and Stones Farm is a special place. I've not seen anything as unique as their setup. We were provided with care and great hospitality. It is rustic and simple, but can be considered elevated glamping! We looove it here! The cabin is SO so beautiful. Bring plenty of your own lights as it gets very dark! We were wonderfully prepared, having visited this place before. 1st time at this cabin but 2nd time at Sticks and Stones Farm, and we are looking forward to hopefully a third visit! The lands are gorgeous and spacious The bed was impressively comfortable and we were even provided towels and fresh water. The kitchen came with a can opener and pan, and a surprisingly useful water pitcher, though other cooking tools may be a bit limited so remember to bring your own! I had never used a composting toilet before but my goodness, it's absolutely fine, not smelly, and very much like a regular bathroom. Miles above an outhouse for sure.

  • I’ve been to Sticks and Stones the past three years now, and it’s always a lovely place to get away to! My friends always fall in love with the ambiance of the cabin and the grounds. It’s a perfect spot to regroup, hangout, and draw from nature. The only thing that changed from previous years was our hosts, but Bill and James were very responsive and accommodating! They ensured we had everything we needed for our stay, greeted us upon our arrival, and made themselves highly accessible. Thanks you guys for another great stay, and look forward to seeing you all again in the future!

    Michelle2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was amazing!!!! if you wanna get away and spend a real time with your friends/family this is a good option. you would get unplugged of tech, you wont really feel you need your phone there. we were worry about there were not power or running water in the cabin but that was the best part, taking a outdoor shower and using candles to light up the room. absolutely loved it, we definitely come back

  • We were back again for a second year and had just as amazing of a time as last year, if not better! Sam is always such a welcoming host, accommodating to meet up with us and guide us up to our cabin when we arrived nearing dark. She checked in over the weekend as well to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable with the facilities! Other than that the setting just never gets old, the cabins as cozy and well-equipped as could be- the perfect weekend getaway for relaxation and recharging in nature

    Michelle2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A truly lovely setting, feels like you're away from it all, but it's a very quick drive to town and not far from NYC either. The cabin was beyond lovely and we'll be back soon!

Both the bathroom and showers are located a few minute walk away through the woods - Candles are not allowed in the cabins Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you! -Please be advised that we are not solely a Bed and Breakfast; while we aim to accommodate you as best as possible, there are sometimes other events going on that may affect your stay.
There is lots to do in the towns surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm; Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, but most of our guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • We loved staying at Sticks And Stones. Such a wonderful place to be off-the-grid in the midst of the beautiful scenery. Perfect spot for a retreat for small or large groups. There's so much magic there and Bill was a warm and accommodating host. During our stay, we explored the property and its sci-fi-meets-eco structures, cooked great meals in the superb kitchen, did some meditation, and walked the labyrinth. At night we heard owls while looking at the nightsky through the cabin skylights. The farm is connected with a great community of wilderness enthusiasts and spiritual groups. Great energy there. Highly recommended.

  • Amazing place, breathtaking property, extremely hospital host and portapotty was always clean. Definitely would and will stay here again!!

  • I had a delightful solo stay in the Pagoda cabin. Sticks and Stones is a great place to unplug and unwind from the stresses of city living. Lots of quiet, trails, birds (birders bring your binocs!), and places to discover. Sam was responsive and helpful, and the other guests were great to mingle with if I wanted to. I guess you could access electricity and plug in electronics in the Old Stone Barn but why on earth would you want to? Pro tip: If you're a light sleeper and there's rain in the forecast, maybe bring earplugs because the sound of rain and wind here is the real deal!

    Colleen2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • It was an excellent experience. I recommend it!

  • Thank you for being such a great host! We LOVED our stay, the cabins were wonderful and the grounds awesome to explore and you were fantastic to chat with. The Rustic Kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens we've ever come across, tons of pots and pans in good condition, a working grill that we got to cook all our meals on, and even some tea, coffee, and salt, pepper and oil too! As ppl who frequently love to cool it was refreshing to not have to worry about hauling over little things like this. The cabin was clean and comfortable, gorgeous views around it and fun hikes!

  • Perfect easy last-minute getaway from NYC! I went with a group of 20-something year old girls for a birthday (4 of us in total). We stayed at the Pagoda cabin, and couldn't have imagined anything better! The grounds are beautiful: trails around the woods, well-equipped communal rustic kitchen, cute cats, adorable barn with yoga mats, fresh vegetable garden, heated showers surrounded by nature... really amazing. The host, Sam, was SO kind and helpful. The Pagoda cabin has a fire pit right next to it (which I fully plan on using next time I book a short vacation there). We brought a couple of head lamps and a small lantern which were very handy, but everything was so well taken care of and easy that we didn't really have to worry about bringing much of anything else - we were given towels and lots of comfy blankets, offered a delicious breakfast ($10 suggested donation), the communal kitchen has pots and pans, gas stove, dishes, utensils, etc. Super easy - super lovely - beautiful & romantic - highly recommend it!

  • Our only complaint is that we didn’t stay long enough! This place is absolutely magical. Every aspect of our visit was just perfect. We loved staying in the Pagoda but all of the cabins we saw looked just as amazing. The rustic kitchen was well stocked, the outdoor shower was heaven, the grounds were gorgeous, and the energy all around was so calming and peaceful. Sam is an incredible host, making us feel so welcome and cared for the second we arrived. So grateful for a place like this to exist just hours from New York City. Cant wait to return! Thanks Sticks and Stones for a wonderful 5 days. Stay Gold, Lauren and Lorin

The cabin does not have electric and although it comes with LED string lights we always encourage guests to bring their own additional lighting. The cabin comes with fresh drinking water available a short distance away in the rustic kitchen. • The perfect escape from the city! Sticks and Stones was responsive, hospitable, and beyond beautiful. My husband and I stayed in the Summit structure for 2 nights on a particularly chilly weekend and the staff was quick to provide extra sleeping bags and comforters. The staff drove us up to the top, quickly showed us around, pointed out the amazing rustic kitchen and helped with our bags. They were wonderful during our trip! They even drove back up to help with our bags during check out because there was a rain storm. The view was incredible. My favorite moment was waking up to the rain and the beautiful overlook. My husband and I walked about the grounds and were in awe of the different structures that were built. We are planning on returning, this time with a group of friends! If you'd like to participate in the llama tours, be sure to plan ahead. They were fully booked day of! 10/10 would recommend! Thank you sticks and stones!

  • This place is fantastic! The view from the Summit hut at sunset is absolutely stunning. We also really enjoyed the outdoor showers and it was great to have our own fire pit for making s'mores. : ) - I wish we would have known ahead of time about the llama walk, but next time!

  • We had a fantastic weekend getaway in the Summit Cabin! Sleeping in the cabin with screens for walls was so peaceful and the view is incredible! Definitely worth a weekend escape. Definitely bring your own food to cook but if you need, pizza is a 10 minute Uber ride away!

  • Sticks and Stones is everything they say it is. It is so unique and peaceful. My cabin, The Summit was cozy, with great views. I highly recommend the outdoor shower! Sam, the owner was so friendly and accommodating. She took me and another guest to a lake to kayak. I came by myself (a female) and felt safe, and loved the whole atmosphere. I would highly recommend it!

  • Amazing get away if you enjoy camping and hiking - awesome grounds and exploration. Tranquil and peaceful! Looking forward to many more visits!

  • Words can barely describe the treasured experience I had with my stay at Stick & Stones. I took this trip on my own, in my 7th month of pregnancy, to take the time to connect with myself, my growing baby and nature. Wow. I am still walking on air this week, from the deep respite and heart connection that I had while there. The land is simply gorgeous and every little detail is ‘just so’. And when the lady of the land, Sam, tells you to be sure and get barefoot and walk on the moss... do it! It’s like nothing else. In 2-3 days, I only got to do about half the things I wanted to while there. So much to explore and see. Cooking in the rustic kitchen is lovely. Yoga is the stone barn is lovely. And even off and on downpour of rain, is a truly magical way to experience the mountaintop. And nothing got wet! Just a dream. I’ll be coming back again and again!

  • It was one of those rare AirBNB experiences where the house was significantly better than expected. It was very clean, and the upstairs living space is light and lovely and very comfortable, and the grounds are spacious and private. The beds are good and the amenities all thoughtful. We will be back!

There were a ton of personal touches that brought the stay to the next level, from a guidebook of the area, to all the food/drink products being local. Also who doesn’t love a French press :) Would highly recommend to anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

  • We stayed at Norm and Joanne’s cottage over Thanksgiving. It is a beautiful and restful cottage. Very clean, with excellent beds, warm fire, great designer touches and lovely surroundings. I can’t wait to come back in the summer for fun river activities, just a short walk across the yard from the back door!

  • My boyfriend and I decided to make a very last minute trip for a holiday weekend, and messaged Norm just a few hours to see if we could stay at his place. He responded quickly, and accommodated us right away. We arrived to a sparkling clean, quiet, beautiful home. Norm was very responsive during our entire stay, and answered any and all questions that we had. He gave us local recommendations, and even made calls for us to make sure that we could do the activities that we were looking to do. He was a fabulous host, and the house was so perfect if you're looking for a relaxing, quiet getaway. We literally couldn't have planned a better trip. If I could give more than five stars, I would!

The River House by Kara, is all about serenity situated directly on the Pomperaug River in Southbury, Connecticut. Right in the backyard you are able to read a book in a hammock, grill out and eat outdoors, make a campfire or enjoy some fishing and swimming. Inside it is a cozy cabin with comfortable beds, entertainment via TV/WiFi/DVD. There is a fully stocked kitchen, breakfast nook with extendable table and the bathroom has a full size shower/tub and washer and dryer.
The entrance is in the back with a digital lock. The front of the house I have a mud room and it is locked with some maintenance things in there but the rest of the house is yours!!!
Southbury is an amazing New England town. Our location is on a side road which makes you feel like you are in the country but actually we are located within walking distance to Laurel's Diner, the Riverview Cinema, an ice cream shop, grocery store, Walgreens and more. I will put more details in binder on the kitchen counter.

Check in was seamless and the location is truly fantastic. We enjoyed sitting by the fire at night and listening to the water flow by. We also took advantage of the nearby trails and enjoyed a lovely hike. We really hope to visit again soon! We highly recommend Kara’s place.

Our Mt Laurel Cabin is nestled up our mountain among the Mountain Laurel in the woods near the hilltop pond and Rustic Kitchen. It's a magical setting where you are surrounded by Mt. Laurel branches which line the walls and arch over your bed! Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
Our rustic Mountain Laurel Cabin is a favorite among guests. Voted Most Romantic, the cabin is nestled down in a glen providing plenty of privacy and all the green you can gather in! You will most certainly feel like you’re in a little love nest the way that the Mountain Laurel branches provide interesting structure along the inside walls of the cabin. This is a single screened in room with a double bed, wicker bench, table, battery powered string lights and drinking water. This cabin is the most magnificent in the morning when the first rays of sun stream in through the dense foliage. This cabin is located behind the rustic kitchen. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are a few minute walk away on a path through the woods and are located separately. -There is a communal fire pit located just above the cabin at the Rustic Kitchen. - Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you! We ask that all guests arrive before dark.   Guests arriving after 10pm will be required to pay an additional $25 late check in fee in cash upon arrival. -Please be advised that we are not solely a Bed and Breakfast; while we aim to accommodate you as best as possible, there are sometimes other events going on that may affect your stay. - None of the cabins except the River House Boat and Little House have electricity - fans are provided in these cabins - There is a Stop and Shop grocery store located 2.5 miles from the farm - If you are arriving via metro north you want to get off at Bridgeport and from there you can get a driving service for the 30-minute ride to the farm (i.e. Uber, Lyft etc.).
Though there is lots to do in the surrounding towns of Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield but most guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • We loved our stay! The Laurel cabin makes you feel like you’re in a fairy tale and the rustic kitchen is very well equipped. You’ll want to eat delicious food, so make sure you pack well - we had pasta, eggs, fruit, desserts, snacks and hot cocoa by the fire. The outside shower is amazing too! October can be cold but the hot water is a treat. Oh, and watch out for beautiful birds and deer 💚. If you’re into drawing, board games, books, movies or music, you could bring some to enjoy, and do bring an extra light. The hosts are great too! From the minute I booked we were in touch and they answered all my questions. They were also very thoughtful giving us extra blankets for the night and the check-in/check-out flexibility we needed to lose track of time and relax. This place is a gem!

    Diana2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sticks and Stones was the exact escape from NYC. The staff was very helpful and welcome, the grounds were extremely well kept and the cabin exceptionally clean for being a partly outdoor space. I will definitely be back.

    Brittany2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Every time I stay at Sticks & Stones I come back feeling revitalized and at peace. Thank you for creating such a beautiful, calming space! (Visiting in the fall is the best– I highly recommend!!) I only marked the experience as being "less than expected" because I had expectations from previous visits for some "extra special details" (yoga..breakfast..) but really it was a great experience (as always) I'll be happy to return & I'll continue to tell all my friends about this great place!

    Ceci2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had no idea what to expect, and it turned out so much fun! James and his wife checked us in and we’re so helpful throughout the entire trip. James told us everything we needed to know/ brought us fire wood when we forgot to ask for some down at the barn. The property manager went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. The staff here were so incredibly great at their jobs and they made the stay that much better. 5 star on staff!!!!!! For future stayers - this is camping! Like, I don’t know what I expected but this is legit camping basically outside but in an adorable stick home. This cabin is right next to the kitchen/fire pit/grill which was so convenient. Like not even a minute walk away. Here are some items to bring that add on to the comments below I found were a necessity: Coffee!!! There’s a French press !! Sugar Febreeze for the out house.. this was ROUGH lol! Long pants and sweatshirts Camping chairs Toilet paper Paper towels Zip lock bags Lots and lots of lights (we brought more led twinkle lights) Fully charged laptop / dvds if you’re staying for more than one night. It was fun to watch Superbad in an awesome stick hut with lots of twinkle lights! Food!! Bring a large cooler with ice, be prepared. I wish we brought more up to begin with so we didn’t have to head down the mountain on day 2. Lots of lots of ice in your cooler. The kitchen really is amazing you can basically make anything right there. Don’t be scared to stock up on breakfast lunch and dinner. We will be back! So romantic and so fun. We ventured out to a winery and a brewery that weren’t far away just to take a look around ct. thanks guys for an amazing weekend!

    Julianne2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • What an experience! We truly enjoyed our stay at Mt Laurel. We didn’t get the chance to use the outdoor showers but we will be sure to do so when we return!

  • This place is magical. My husband and I felt recharged after exploring the farm, meeting new friends at the fire pit, and having a beautiful night of sleep. Nature therapy at its finest.

    Terril2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot express the wonderful experience we had at Sticks and Stones. I spent my birthday here with my boyfriend and everything was more than we could have ever imagined. This is camping at it’s most thoughtful and peaceful level. Here are some helpful tips from our experience that will hopefully help you enjoy yours to the fullest: - Come with an open mind and heart and allow everything to just take you in. - Explore and hike and just let the place guide you. There are so many hidden gems and nooks and gifts within the property. - Bring lanterns and anything you may need to fill time. There is no electricity, so we definitely filled time just relaxing and talking and hiking. If you are used to having technology, maybe bring a laptop or iPad with a movie downloaded (something we wish we did, just to be a cherry on top to the the wonderful weekend, but totally not necessary.) - Hiking shoes and change of socks. Lots of warm clothes especially during the cooler days. The bed are spectacular and the blankets are super heavy and warm. - Sam is a wonderful being and host, she will help bring all of your belongings to your campsite at the beginning and end of your stay. If you forget anything, the stop and shop is just 5 mins away and the hike up and down the mountain on your own isn’t bad at all. - We didn’t try the breakfast on site (still looked delicious) but tried Kings Diner which was also just a a short drive away. The most amazing diner breakfast we have ever had! We will be back in a heartbeat! This would be an amazing place to go solo, with a friend, loved one, family or group of friends. Seriously, best Airbnb experience!! So much loveeeeeeeee. 100/100. Also, if you can catch the llama walk, you're in for a treat!

New construction! Fully equipped kitchen and all the comforts of home. Quiet country living with a private entrance. Minutes from commuter rail to NYC. Hiking, biking, and cross country skiing. Ideal hotel alternative for wedding and graduation guests or business travelers.
The apartment is separate from our house, over our garage. It is a brand new space that we just renovated including brand new appliances, windows, doors - even the walls and floors! We took care of lots of little details from the cedar-lined entryway to the USB outlets hoping our guests will feel pampered and rejuvenated. When you arrive you will find the kitchen stocked with little treats, cooking spices and other essentials you might want whether you are looking to prepare a meal or just a midnight snack. We invite you to connect to our wi-fi and via the apartment smart TV enjoy any of the almost 300 television shows and over 1000 movies available in our digital collection. Very cozy, clean, and it has all of the amenities of a home (laundry, TV, shower, and a kitchen stocked with a few essentials so you don't have to go out to find something to eat when you arrive). I loved staying here and would do it again in a heartbeat if I am ever in the area. The owner is also very communicative. You can't go wrong with this property!!

  • Jackie and Brett are fantastic hosts! Responsive, thoughtful and accommodating. The apartment was clean, organized, with lots of nice touches — candles, books, welcome guide with local restaurants and tips. The kitchen had everything you could need — pots, pans, spices, utensils. I was in town for a training and prepared every meal to take with me, so I put the kitchen to good use. It felt like a country getaway, but was a short (scenic) drive to restaurants, shopping, etc. I was not able to take advantage of the local hiking and dining, but I will definitely find an excuse to stay again!

  • Jackie & Brett’s place is the best! Super clean and safe neighborhood. Great location and two of the sweetest hosts you could possibly wish for! Would jump at the chance to stay here again!

Our guests enjoy a Keurig machine as well a fridge and microwave. The room is walking distance to downtown Bethel and yet feels like you are deep in the woods. Off street parking is provided. The room has been recently remodeled and has a double bed. You will feel very safe whether you spend a few days or a month.
Only common space is a shared foyer.
  • This little room is truly a hidden gem. Set back in an area that’s both off the beaten path and easily accessible from main roads. Connecticut roads could leave one scratching their head if they weren’t holding on to the wheel with both hands, but Tracy’s directions were clear and precise. The home is a beautiful stone cottage and our private entrance was a set of red double doors festively decorated for the season. The room was charming with loads of natural light, views of the ridges that make this part of the world so unique and enough timber to hint of the rugged lives early settlers might have faced. The bed is full size, memory foam topped and very comfortable. The room feels recently remodeled with modern greys, nice trim and decoration. The bath is also newly remodeled with a lovely walk-in shower and new fixtures. There’s a modern fridge and microwave neatly tucked away and a closet with lots of hangers. The room is small but comfy enough that two us had good sleep and didn’t feel like we were in each other’s way. It is a room for sleeping, not lounging, though, so you’ll probably want to get out onto those windy, hilly roads once you’re rested and ready. TLDR; A great, tidy and compact room in a Connecticut cottage. You’ll enjoy your stay.

  • Sparkling clean. Comfortable bed & linen. Nice variety with coffee machine. Would stay again. A bit challenging to find in the dark, head over during daylight!

Enjoy complete privacy and 900+ square feet of living space in our ground floor suite. There is one king bed, one queen bed, and a comfy sectional couch. There is a small kitchenette for simple cooking and an alfresco BBQ patio for bigger cooking. There is plenty of living space both indoors and out.
This is really a nice, cozy apartment - with ample living space! Pull into a private garage that is attached to your suite. There is a full sized refrigerator in the garage you may use. From the garage you enter a serene sun room flooded with bright, natural light. This room is perfect for reading or to enjoy a glass of wine and a quiet chat. The radiant floors are super cozy on your feet during the winter, and year round you can enjoy the great view of the woods. Take a left through french doors into your living room, and stretch out on the large sectional sofa and enjoy a program on the big screen cable TV. Order take out and sit down at your 4 person dining table. We have installed a new kitchenette in this suite, with Keurig coffee service, small countertop air fryer/oven, microwave, mini-fridge and electric griddle (great to make pancakes or grilled cheese sandwiches). There is no stove in the suite. Big cooking is done outside on a good quality gas BBQ grill with side burner; it is for the exclusive use of our guests, and is directly outside your suite, on an alfresco patio with picnic table. The bedroom has a roomy closet and a king bed. The bed can remain a king or can be separated into twins. There is a queen size Murphy bed (wall bed) in the main living room. It can be pulled down as needed. It has a comfortable 10 inch foam mattress with topper. There are black out curtains for the comfort of those sleeping in the living room. All bed linens are 300 thread count Egyptian cotton. The three piece bathroom has a shower. We have lots of complimentary toiletries to use, if you forget something. Directly outside the sunroom, just steps away, is a large in-ground pool to enjoy from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. The pool is gated for the safety of small children. If you want to take a snooze or read a book and listen to the birds, there is a hammock nestled between two shade trees on the side of the house. There are two swings for the kids. We also have lawn games for the family to enjoy: soccer balls, a croquet set, Frisbee and boccie ball.
Enjoy classic Connecticut country living. We have a gorgeous yard, with three acres of nature, trees and privacy. There are a number of excellent walking and biking trails in Monroe. Good restaurants. The town park has wonderful amenities. However, our back yard is probably all you will need for your stay: hammock, pool, lawn games and guest BBQ. Come and relax!
  • Marybeth and Aster have an absolutely beautiful and serene apartment suite, one which I was very thankful to have while moving to a new state by myself. I felt right at home the first day, and Marybeth and Aster were wonderful hosts. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Andrea2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • MaryBeth and Aster’s place felt just like home ! So many nice, thoughtful touches, private and easy to access. I felt very relaxed and comfortable here and would definitely look for a reason to stay here again.

    Lynn2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Marybeth and Aster are superhosts for a reason. We had a wonderful time in your home and it was a wonderful base for visiting family in Fairfield and New Fairfield! Thanks so much all the thoughtful touches. Our daughter loved all the snacks and the games. We could stay there forever without even visiting! Best wishes to you both.

    Maureen2019-11-09T00:00:00Z

  • Comfortable and spacious suite, very bright and inviting. Plenty of convenient parking directly in front of the unit. This was our second time staying here and plan on returning next time we are in town.

    Carol2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our summer begins in Marybeth's pool and ends in there. We have another wonderful weekend and needless to say how much we love the suite. It was magical looking up at the stars and listening to the sound of the night, a symphony of frogs, crickets and other creatures. Our older kids have been coming to the pool for fours and they learned how to swim here. Now we can't wait to see our younger one in the brand new pool next year.

  • Wendi and John are great hosts. Wendi was wonderful about making sure anything we needed was taking care of, yet also respected our privacy when needed. John even made sure that the drive way was free of snow even though I am a night owl. And the place its self is amazingly homey. Highly recommended.
