Places to stay in New London
Spacious and light charming 2 bedroom apartment gives you all the comforts of home while you’re away. We are a quick walk to L&M (Yale) Hospital, Mitchell College, And Electric Boat New London Campus. Short drive to the Coast Guard Academy, Connecticut College, Domion (Millstone) and The Groton US Submarine Base. And if you’re here for fun, we are close to Ocean Beach (borrow our pass for free access) both casinos, Niantic and Mystic Seaport. Follow us on Insta at 199Thames
You have the whole apartment (1000 sq ft) to yourself and use of the whole property. There are 2 bedrooms but the living room has its own door so you can close it off for privacy. Our reviews consistently include words like ‘homey,’ ‘cozy,’ and ‘charming.’ Hopefully you agree! We have always prided ourselves on cleanliness and this is reflected on our reviews but given the new normal we have changed our operating model. To allow for even more in depth cleaning we now maintain a full day between guests. To accommodate our own health we are now requiring at least 2 night stay. We apologize to our re-occurring guests for any inconvenience this may cause. Hopefully this change reassures you as much as it does us. Please note that this is a THIRD floor apartment so there are exterior stairs involved. Also, this is a family home. We live and work here. We hope you have a great time but please remember are bedrooms are the floor below you.
We are set back from the street on almost an acre of land in a quiet residential neighborhood. But you’re only a mile and a half from The bars, galleries and restaurants of Bank street and 25 minutes to Mohegan And Foxwoods Casinos. We are one block from Toby May Park with a great playground, tennis and basketball courts and a mile to Ocean Beach. Ocean Beach is a popular stop with a board walk pool, water slides and amusement rides. Borrow our pass for free admission! Super close to Planet Fitness, and every store you can think of. Basically it’s a super convenient spot for all of New London county. New London is an eclectic little city rich in history and very diverse. Check out Fort Trumbull to learn you history, walk Bank St for bars, great food and all kinds of art. Hit Ocean Beach to walk the boardwalk in Long Island Sound or take in a show at the Garde Theater. Or just order in some pizza from The Recovery Room and take it easy!
  • Five stars all around :)

The White Apartment was recently fully renovated and will provide our guests with comfort, cleanliness and a unique decor. It is on the 2nd and 3rd floor of an 1895 duplex dwelling located in New London, CT. The decor pieces come from all over the world and represent an hommage to the travelers. We wish The White Apartment to be a memorable getaway for our guests to fully discover South Eastern Connecticut.
The White Apartment is located in New London, close to many well known touristic destinations: Mystic seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Ocean Beach Park, Fort Trumbull Park, the USS Nautilus, the Submarine Force museum, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, the United States Coast Guard museum... New London is also known for its vibrant nightlife, its art galleries and its baroque Avant Garde Theater. The food scene is diverse and truly delicious. The Mohegan Sun Casino is 15 minutes away. And of course if you’re into antiques we will be glad to give you the adresses of our favorite antiques stores.
The White Apartment is in a quiet neighborhood that I personally consider safe. The street doesn’t have much traffic. Because of the proximity to Electric Boat company, many dwellings are being improved and upgraded in the vicinity to accommodate the next 18,000 employees to be hired. But you will still see some older buildings desperately seeking some loving.
  • Great spot! Such cute decor and impeccable clean!

    Chesney2020-04-10T00:00:00Z

  • Apartment is spacious and clean. AC is very nice. Host is friendly, hospitable, and helpful. Highly recommend staying here if you're in the area.

    Zachary2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Dmytro was a fantastic host. He met us behind the apartment building to help carry our bags when we first arrived, and invited us to a local beach the next day. Although we already had plans, the invitation made us feel so welcome. Dmytro’s apartment was kept extremely clean and neat. He had clean towels for us to use, extra blankets for the bed, and a very comfortable mattress. The bedroom also had an ac window unit and WiFi. The apartment unit was only a few miles away from town, and several beaches were within a 5-10 minute drive (ocean beach, Waterford beach, niantic beach and boardwalk). There were also many good restaurants with delicious fresh seafood (skippers, captain Scott’s). We would definitely stay at Dmytro’s place again if we’re back in the area. Also, the price is right! Thanks so much to Dmytro.

    Hannah2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I seldom try an Airbnb when they first host, but I am so glad that I am the first guest of Dmytro. Despite our changing schedule, Dmytro is very patient, flexible and welcoming. His home is an apartment with three rooms and 1.5 baths, in which Dmytro stay in one of the rooms. It is super fun to hang out with Dmytro as he brought us to the beach, play beach volleyball and try one of the best Italian food in the town! Last but not least, the huge adjustable sofa and the big television in his place make the best movie night I ever had!

  • Susan was great and easy to work with. Bed was very comfortable, sheets were soft and smootg and the view of the golf course was nice. Shower water pressure was wonderful!! To respond to other reviews..... yes, it is dated, the kitchen is small, however it's cute and cozy and a wonderful bargain! My husband and I were comfortable, appreciated the coffee that was available too! There were beers and soda in the fridge which was nice - although we were there for the Wine & Food Festival. Was about $15 roundtrip with Uber! We plan on coming back when we can try out the amenities! Thanks for a nice stay Susan!

  • This is such a lovely space!! It was perfect for our trip to see our son at the Navy base. It was super close! Everything was so clean and comfy! Loved the extra touches and the colorful decorations. The beds were comfy and it was plenty of space! We will definitely try to stay here again if we are in the area!! Thxs for your hospitality Breanna!

    LaTonya2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Breanna’s place worked like a charm for us! We were aiming to visit the USCoast Guard Academy and her location was perfect for that. Plenty of room for a family of 3 ( 2 adults and a strapping teenager). Great recommendations were available for us to find a nice local spot for a bite to eat when we got there. Later on, we took a jaunt up to Mohegan Sun to take a look. We were also very well situated for that trip. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone. I can also see us returning especially if the Coast Guard is in our future!

  • Quiet space tucked away near downtown New London. Beautiful house with full access to a kitchen. Host was friendly!

    Samantha2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great room for a great price! Truly appreciated the local suggestions and loved that it was close to downtown where you can walk to the restaurants/bars. Although there are other rooms on the same floor as you, we couldn't hear much in the room. We could hear them playing shows in the hallway when we went to the bathroom, but we couldn't hear much in the rooms which we appreciated. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the ceilings in the bathroom and in some parts of the room were low for my 6'2 husband. Just something to consider if you're tall :) It was a great stay and we look forward to staying here in the future!

  • Roderick's place is great! The location is stellar for train or ferry travel, or hanging downtown and enjoying dinner at his bar. He was helpful with the arrangements and check in, and his father nicely met me to let me in. The room is nice, spacious, and very clean. Highly recommend!

  • Great open space. Located extremely close to everything downtown.

    Jimmy2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for three days - place is not a luxurious accommodation, but larger then we expected, with high ceiling and lot of sun and air. Comfortable beds, very clean. Convenient downtown location, our studio didn't have "street" windows - less noise then we expected: just train from time to time and seagulls. No A/C, but there're ceiling fan and window fan - worked great for us, needed blankets at night. Roderick is extremely nice and accommodating: fast responses; flexibility with check-in / check-out time (he did everything for our convenience); provided parking passes to nearby (couple blocks walk) parking - very important, it's 2 hours parking in the area.

  • A fabulous home by the water!! June is a wonderful host, kind and attentive. My husband stayed for a long weekend for my birthday. June made sure we were comfortable, checked in during our stay, gave us great tips for seafood, & even left me some goodies for my birthday!! I can't thank June enough for making us feel at home. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful. Watching the sun set over the pond was breathtaking. I highly recommending staying!! I couldn't have asked for a better birthday weekend and a more wonderful host.

    Monique2020-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • The bungalow was so relaxing. Perfect for my mini getaway from work. The enclosed porch and pellet stove were my favorites. June even left the pups and I treats (who would’ve known I’d enjoy zucchini bread?? It’s now my favorite!) My dogs enjoyed laying out on the dock. June was super communicative and helpful, even gave me suggestions for restaurants still open during this pandemic. It very quiet, perfect place to decompress. Thank you June.

    Amanda2020-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • It isn't possible to say too many good things about June's bungalow. The location is so tranquil and so beautiful. Morning coffee, gazing out at the pond, watching the ducks and sunrise. A pellet stove to keep us warm and cozy when temperatures dropped. Abundant towels and culinary supplies. Lovely neighbors. This really felt like a home, not a hotel. June was super responsive, caring but not intrusive. My dog and I would go back in a minute, and we both highly recommend it to other human and canine guests. Both are equally welcomed!

    Jennifer2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • June’s place was the perfect cozy getaway and her hospitality exceeded our expectations! The pellet stove was easy to use so we could make it extra cozy during our late December stay. We were easily able to checkin with a lock box and was greeted with yummy treats for us and our two dogs. This Airbnb is the perfect place if you have behaved pups. We set up dog beds in the living room and they loved the pellet stove. The yard isn’t fenced but there’s plenty of space for them to run around while we enjoyed the view of the pond. June had all of the kitchen gadgets for cooking making it easy to stay in for meals. We found a hiking trail just 5 minutes away called “red trail to blue trail” on the All Trails app. Very easy trail with little to no incline but perfect for a short walk with the dogs. The neighborhood is quiet but in just a short drive you can be in the fun town of Mystic! We’d move into this adorable bungalow in a second that’s how much we loved it. You won’t be disappointed!

    Megan2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • June’s place is beautiful! Nestled on a lake in a quiet neighborhood, the house is very cute and comfortable. June is very responsive and helpful!

    Brigid2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cozy and welcoming home for the weekend! My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and it was nothing short of amazing! From waking up and having breakfast by the pond in the screened in porch to enjoying a drink and watching the sunset we wouldn’t change a thing about this trip! June is such an amazing host from her hospitality to her tips and guide of the area! She really helps make your stay memorable! She filled the fridge with every day needs like water, eggs, and bread. And was kind enough to leave snacks like chips and more! She was extremely accommodating when we asked for an earlier check in time and even stopped by to show us how to use the beautiful pellet stove in the living room! This cozy bungalow is perfect for a couple for a nice fall/summer/and winter getaway! Thank you so much for everything June we can’t wait to come back and stay again!!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY so that it will function properly. The tree house has a locking door and six large windows with screens and shades for privacy. A key will be provided when you arrive. There are two stained glass transoms above the front windows and two more in the apexes. The space has a queen size bed with a comfy hybrid coil memory foam mattress. There are 400 thread count sheets with plenty of pillows and quilts along with a faux fur throw. Two bed side tables with Tiffany style lamps complement each side along with two tall white birch logs decorated with branches and fairy lights. Behind the bed side tables are USB ports with cords so you can charge your iPhone. Above the bed hangs a stained glass panel and a ceiling fan for your comfort on warm nights. There is also an electric fireplace for cold nights or you can just enjoy watching the flames without heat. On very cold nights we also supply a propane heater, though the electric fireplace is usually sufficient. There is a cabinet which stores some camping essentials such as a propane camp stove, dinnerware, cutlery, cutting board, sugar and sugar substitutes, spices, creamers, pots, pans, lighters, scissors, wine bottle and can opener, a mirror, extra light bulbs, mugs, dish drying cloth, umbrellas, first aid kit, paper towels, Lysol cleaner, flashlights, propane, insect repellent and a battery powered lantern. A Kuerig coffee machine is provided with assorted coffees, chai latte, tea, hot chocolate, and hot apple cider. There is also a turquoise inlaid wooden table with two chairs where you can dine, write, or use your computer and a small wall rack for hanging clothes. On top of the rack are two wine glasses. Under the bed there are an assortment of games. Two pottery mugs are provided which Nancy made. The mugs are for sale at 28.00 each. Atop the cabinet is a bowl of snacks and a book binder with more information, maps, menus, and directions on how to use the coffee machine, propane stove, propane heater and electric fire place. There are 2 1/2 miles of well maintained wood lined hiking trails with some that follow Goldmine brook to a waterfall that once hosted a grist mill back in the 1700's. You can still see the large stone foundations. Along the trails you will see many of the iconic stone walls that are unique to New England. Maps are provided in the book binder and trail markers are posted along the way. There are many benches and chairs along the trail where you can sit, relax and enjoy the scenery. While hiking the trails walking poles or sticks are suggested as the terrain is hilly with some stone steps and steep areas. Two walking sticks hang on the wall in the tree house. Because of the terrain hiking boots are strongly recommended. Due to the nature of the trails no ATV, dirt or mountain biking is allowed. These are hiking trails only. We ask that you please respect the private sign as this trail leads to the Octagon where guests may be staying. There is a good distance between the buildings so you will not be able to see each other even in winter. We wanted to make each site secluded and private. While hiking, please stay on our side of the brook as the opposite side is owned by our neighbor. It is a five minute walk to the spring fed pond which is part of Goldmine brook. The brook is rated class A and supports a myriad of wildlife including river otters, mink and great blue herons. If you like to fish bring your gear to try for pickerel, large and small mouth bass, white and yellow perch, shiners and native trout. Previous guests have had great luck fly fishing here. Since the pond is small, we ask that you please practice catch and release. If you are looking for a place to swim, canoe or kayak visit Gardner Lake state park in Salem which is only 15 minutes away. ( you will have to supply your own canoe or kayaks) Depending on water flow, you can also take a dip right here in the small pool below the Goldmine brook waterfall which is a 20-25 minute walk down the trail. Looking for some ocean fun? Bluff Point state park in Groton is another good choice. Here they have a beach along with hiking trails. Bluff Point is about 24 minutes away. Both places are free of charge. Please check out our guide book on Airbnb by clicking our profile picture for more things to do in the area. The outdoor living area is conveniently layered with crushed stone. Enjoy a fire in the fire pit and meals either outdoors or in. On the deck there are two chairs and a mosaic glass table for outdoor dining along with a propane grill and a Mayan style hammock that seats two people. At ground level there is a fire pit with additional tables and chairs along with tiki torches for extra light and ambiance. Seasoned wood is available for 5 dollars a box or you can bring your own. You can also use any of the wood on the forest floor as long as it is not being used to mark the trails. There is a Walmart and Big Y one mile away where you can buy food, drinks, ice and other supplies. Looking for a liquor store? Bozrah Wine and Spirits is one mile one the right heading west on route 82. Since there is no refrigerator you will need to bring your own cooler or you can borrow ours. If you do not wish to cook there are many good restaurants close by. We provide a few menus in the book binder for you to look through. Some restaurants even make deliveries or you can use a delivery app. such as door dash.com Enjoy a hot private outdoor shower down at the main house. The distance to the shower is about a one minute walk. The shower is private while you are using it , but is shared with other guests. Plush towels, washcloths and soap are stored under the bed in a container. Shampoo and conditioner are at the shower. There is a sink here where you can wash your dishes. Under the bed there is a black plastic container to use for dirty dishes. Dish soap and scrubber are provided at the sink. There is a dish drying cloth in the cabinet back at the tree house. Due to freezing temperatures, the shower and sink are not available in winter. A wash basin is provided for sponge bathing. The basin is stored under the bed. Simply use the coffee machine or camp stove to make hot water. Guests staying two nights or more during this season are more than welcome to use the inside shower up at the main house. In winter we will take care of washing the dishes. Because of the distance, Wifi is not available in the tree house, but is available in the parking area and pottery studio which is a walking distance of about 300 feet. If your device is supported by an Internet provider you will be able to get online. For the nature enthusiast, take part in a guided nature walk where Nancy will discuss the history, plants, animals, geology and mushrooms found in the area. The walk costs 10 dollars per person and lasts about an hour and a half. We usually cover 2 miles and may go off trail. You might want to bring something to drink, a snack, and your camera. BEFORE YOU BOOK, please keep in mind that this is a fancy form of camping (glamping!) that is semi off grid ( no running water in the Treehouse) with all that camping entails including insects, animals, sudden weather changes, rocky paths and hilly terrain. It is a one minute walk from the parking lot to the tree house and shower. You may get to hear our resident barred owls, red fox, eastern coyotes or possibly come across a white tailed deer while hiking the trails. The distance from the parking area to the tree house is about 300 feet with 170 feet of that being in the forest. Since the tree house is small please pack appropriately. We will be more be more than happy to help you with your luggage. Smoking is not allowed inside the tree house, but is allowed outside of it. For people staying two nights or more I will leave you a check in text to see how you’re doing. Bert and I will do everything we can to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. Please feel free to contact us at anytime during your stay if you need anything. We look forward to hosting you!
We live at the end of a cul de sac in a quiet residential neighborhood that Nancy's father and grandfather built in the late 1950's. The tree house is nestled on 100 acres of forest with a brook running along one side of the property.
  • We loved this place! The hiking trails were lovely and well maintained. Absolutely magical. The treehouse comfortable and cozy. It was everything my partner and I needed and we will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

  • Second time staying at the tree house and it was even better than the first. I received complimentary all natural soap with flower pedals infused in the center. This property has been a god send during the coronavirus. They provide plenty of sanitizer and lysol wipes. Both Bert and Nancy go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. I also received amazing butterscotch brownies as a gift. Will try to book again.

    Alexander2020-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house is well maintained and clean. Nancy and Bert were great hosts and the house is well equipped with all the necessary camping utensils. Also, the trail provides amazing views around sunset time.

  • I could really feel the love 💕 in every detail, Nancy and Bert put into this place, from the trails, to the soaps and little handmade things they’ve made. Their place was like a little quiet and safe nature haven. They provided me with fire wood had a coffee/ tea machine that I frequently used set up with a wide selection of different teas and coffees. I stayed in the treehouse and the octagon. The octagon was definitely my favorite, it was so peaceful with a 360 view on a little brook the forest some of the animals there... the treehouse had tikis and a hammock in addition to the fireplace and at night I heard squirrels running around which was really sweet. I really loved my stay with Nancy and Bert

  • Got as a Xmas present for my mom. She loved it.

  • Spent the night here, and already can’t wait to come back! We were greeted by Bert, who helped us to the house and gave us the run down of the property. After providing us his contact information in case we needed anything, he left us to enjoy our stay and explore. The house was beautifully decorated, and very clean. Our favorite part was the fire pit, which had gorgeous views at sunset. The house was secluded from the trails, but had easy access. The trails were in great condition, and various spots along the way had seating to accommodate beautiful views. On the way home we stopped at Bluffs Point as suggested in the welcome packet. A great recommendation from Nancy and Bert!

    Meghan2020-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical blessing and a gift of simple solitude. It was like a life-size fairy garden as we walked through on a perfect day! We were able to destress in privacy and sheer comfort. The accommodations were creatively artsy and perfectly clean. Bert and Nancy are extremely talented and provided more than a comfortable atmosphere. We will absolutely be back again!

    Jeff2020-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely beautiful place for a getaway. The detail that Nancy and Bert have dedicated to this gorgeous space did not go unnoticed. Enjoyed the beautiful hiking trails, views and fire. The Tree House was absolutely beautiful, warm and clean. I highly recommend!

  • This place is perfect for a fun weekend at the casinos! The room was much bigger than we though it was going to be and the beds were super comfy! Check in was so easy and everyone there was very pleasant! The Limo ride to Foxwoods was so fun and convenient! Made our whole night so easy!! Price was incredible too! We will definitely be back again!

  • Booked and my friend bailed on me a few minutes after. There was suppose to be no refund, but Shawn offered it. And for that, 5 STARS.

    Carl2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, 10 mins from Foxwoods. Clean, neat.

    Erika2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice room for the price. Customer service was wonderful and offered free limo rides to the casino. The only con of the room was that the people above us were noisy. Overall, our stay was great and the customer service went above and beyond our expectations.

    Dashawn2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This boutique hotel is a perfect place to stay about 7 miles from Foxwoods and the best price around. Rooms are in bungalow style buildings. Nice size room. Huge bathroom with soaking tub. Beware hard to find the light switch for the bathroom. Its to the right of the sink. The heat lamp fan in bathroom way to loud to use. Fridge microwave included. A great space. Check in was a breeze and Shaunand the girls were super friendly. Take advantage of the free stretch limo to the casino on Friday and Saturday nights. Well worth it. The driver Abe is the best you will find. Definitely staying here again soon

    Laura2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

  • I stayed one night at Karen and Gerardo’s house while passing through the area. They are lovely people with a home to match. My room was very clean and wonderfully uncluttered. I recommend and would stay again.

  • Wonderful home in a beautiful coastal neighborhood. Everything you need is available. If your using public transportation the bus stops on the corner every 2 hours during the day.

    Steven2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and Gerard were accommodating with my nighttime arrival and I immediately felt comfortable after meeting them. It was sparkling clean and there were nice touches- like separate fridges and cabinet space for guests, a basket of toiletries in the closet in case you forgot anything, and checking in about morning bathroom use so that I wouldn’t be waiting for the shower. Also Roku tv in the bedroom which felt luxurious! I wish I had time to stay longer (I was there only for a night) so I could walk to the beach just a block away. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Karen and Gerard!

Due to the nature of the trails no ATV, dirt or mountain biking is allowed. These are hiking trails only. While hiking please stay on our side of the brook as the opposite side is owed by our neighbor. Also, please respect the private signs as one trail leads to the tree house and the other leads to Hiker’s Haven where guests may be staying. There is a good distance between the three buildings so you will not be able to see each other even in winter. We wanted to make each site secluded and private. It is a 5 minute walk to a springfed pond which is part of Goldmine brook. The brook is rated class A and supports a myriad of wildlife including river otters, mink, muskrats and great blue herons. If you like to fish bring your gear to try for pickerel, shiners, yellow perch, white perch, big mouth bass, smallmouth bass, and native trout. Previous guests have had great luck flyfishing here. Since the pond is small we ask that you please practice catch and release. If you are looking for a place to swim, canoe or kayak visit Gardner lake state park which is only 15 minutes away in Salem. (You will need to supply your own canoe and kayaks) Depending on water flow, you can take a dip in the small pool just below the Goldmine brook waterfall which is a 20 to 25 minute hike away. Please wear water shoes as the brook is rocky. Looking for some ocean fun? Bluff point state park in Groton is another good choice. The outhouse, which is close to the octagon, has a composting toilet and is supplied with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Directions on how to use the toilet are posted on the wall. The outdoor living area is conveniently layered with crushed stone. Enjoy a fire in the fire pit and meals either outdoors or in. A grill is provided for cooking over the fire pit. There are also tiki torches for extra light and ambiance along with tables and chairs. Seasoned wood is available for five dollars a box. You can also bring your own wood and are welcome to any wood on the forest floor as long as it is not being used to mark the trails. Pottery mugs are provided. Nancy makes the mugs and they are for sale upon request. There are also wine glasses and a wine bottle opener for that special occasion. Bozrah wine and spirits is 1 mile away heading west on route 82. If you do not wish to cook your meals, there are plenty of local restaurants close by. We provide a few menus in the book binder that you can look through. Many restaurants make deliveries or you can use a delivery app.such as DoorDash. Com. We also have a Kuerig machine with coffee, tea, hot cider, chai latte and hot chocolate for your favorite brew. We provide assorted sweeteners and creamer. There are also a few snacks. The shower is private while you are using it, but is shared with guests staying at the tree house. There is also a sink here where you can wash your dishes. Plush towels, washcloths and body soap are available in a container under the bed. Shampoo and conditioner are up at the shower. Dish soap and sponges are provided at the sink. There is a black plastic container under the bed to put your used dishes in. Due to freezing temperatures the shower and sink are not available in the winter. A wash basin is provided under the bed for sponge bathing. You can use the coffee machine or the propane camp stove to heat water. Guests staying for two nights or more during this season are more than welcome to use the inside shower up at the main house. In winter we will take care of washing the dishes. For the nature enthusiast, take part in a guided nature walk where Nancy will discuss the history, plants, animals, geology and mushrooms found in the area. A guided walk costs $10 per person and lasts about an hour and a half. We usually cover 2 miles during the walk and may go off trail. You might want to bring something to drink, a snack and your camera. BEFORE YOU BOOK, please keep in mind that this is a fancy form of camping that is semi off grid ( no running water in Octagon) with all that camping entails including insects, animals, sudden weather changes, rocky paths and hilly terrain. There is also a short walk to the shower and parking lot (1 minute) In winter during very cold temperatures the octagon will be nice and cozy though the floor may be cool. Being in the forest you may get to hear our resident barred owls, red fox, eastern coyotes or possibly come across a white tailed deer or mink while hiking. The distance from the parking area to the octagon is approximately 288 feet with 156 feet of that being in the forest. ( about a 1 minute walk) Since the octagon is small please pack appropriately. We will be more than happy to help you with your luggage. Smoking is not allowed inside the octagon, but is allowed outside of it. For people staying two nights or more I will leave you a check in text to see how you are doing. Bert and I will do everything we can to make this a memorable and enjoyable visit. Please feel free to contact us at anytime if you need anything during your stay. We look forward to hosting you!
We live at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential neighborhood that Nancy's father and grandfather built in the late 1950's. The octagon is nestled on 100 acres of forest with a brook running along one side of the property.
  • This place is 5 star through and through. Bert meets you at check in and shows you the amazing grounds. The outdoor shower is a nice touch and was hotter and stayed hot for a very long time. Great hosts who are very attentive. The trails are clearly marked and the seating areas are great. Was my 3rd stay here and will try to book again.

  • Bert and Nancy were amazing hosts..they went above and beyond expectations. We enjoyed the trails and the beautiful stay at the Octagon. We will definitely be coming back! Would highly recommend for a relaxing stay.

    Aubrey2020-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the Octagon was truly an awesome experience. The Octagon itself is sparkling clean, and has everything you need for cooking (whether it’s on a grill, or on your fire). I found this spot to be a very peaceful place to lay my head at night and listen to the sounds of the river. The property is full of surprises & has plenty of beautiful views along the trails; even the trails are impeccable. Nancy and Bert were super accommodating & really fun to talk to & get to know. My stay was beyond what I had expected & Nancy and Bert made every effort to make me feel at home. I’ll most likely be coming back to stay again!

  • This stay was truly magic! Nancy and Bert have a special little piece of the world here in Norwich, CT and they are kind enough to share it with all of us. I was so happy to be greeted by kind and gentle hosts during such a difficult pandemic to travel in. Bert and Nancy were communicative when need be and the place had everything we needed- warmth, nature, and games!!! It was overall a peaceful, beautiful, private cabin with fun private trails to explore. My boyfriend and I will be coming back and we might stay in one of the their other cabins for a change!

    Bianca2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely beautiful from the scenery to the small details in the octagon. Nancy and Bert were so welcoming and generous. They made us feel so at home and I will definitely be coming back for more days soon.

    Stephanie2020-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Water Forest Retreat is a magical wonderland with bright energy and lovely hosts. Nancy and Bert personally laid 2.5 miles of trails through their gorgeous property. The pictures don't do it justice at all. They provided all the privacy we wanted. There are 3 airbnbs separate and secluded from each other in the forest. I can't wait to go back.

    Evan2020-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place was really nice. From pictures I had already assumed it would be nice but in person it was even better. Nancy and Bert were really nice! I enjoyed my stay by the little river, the Octagon, Nancy’s details and art were lovely. I had privacy until my check out, and I was made aware that if I needed anything I could just call them and they would be delighted to help. Due to the current status of everything, it was a nice getaway. I will be booking again soon. If anyone has any doubt in mind, take my word and many other people’s as well. This was a great trip and experience!

  • John is the most perfect host. Most importantly, he cares. He is kind and wants all of his guests to feel comfortable and happy. My room was so beautiful and cozy. The shared spaces are charming and inviting. And it is the perfect location. I would return in heartbeat! Thank you John for a fantastic visit to Mystic :)

  • Delightful visit in home that was build in 1796- because of that factor, it has unique features and quirks! It is clean and John provides outstanding hospitality and added amenities, which includes fruit, candy and water in room. Wonderful breakfast tray each morning with coffee, fresh cream, warm breakfast roll from Sift, in Mystic, yogurt and fruit. John and Marie engagement with conversations, suggestions , friendliness, kindness and genuine thoughtfulness, I found contributed significantly to my visit to Mystic, the Seaport Museum and Art Gallery. I came to see Turner art show and experienced so much more , thankfully to these morning conversations and John’s suggestion to rent a car. John even helped me return the car, took on little visit to Catholic Church on an Island and got myself and luggage to Train Station.

  • My wife and I stayed one night. They house had a fun rustic chic vibe and John was helpful with suggestions. He even left some coffee and croissants in the morning. It isn't in walking distance of the quaint shops, but we knew that going in so it wasn't a problem. We would stay there again if we were back at Mystic.

    Doug2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • John was an exceptional host, in the historic tradition of New England B&Bs. he provided a delicious breakfast of coffee and croissant, the room was warm despite cold cold weather on our one night stay, check in was easy and directions were clear. The location was an easy uber to downtown mystic, and honestly every part of our stay exceeded my expectations.

    Ruby2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • John was incredibly welcoming and great at communicating. The house was a little bit difficult to find but John texted me additional directions

    Jenna2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very mystic historical house, love the smell of salt water outside -walking distance to pizza house, host went out of his way to make good coffee early in the morning! Great for convention stay at Foxwoods. No living room to hang out in so really a good for a place just to crash. Uber to the realty place is easy and only 7-12$ Nice people.

    Mieka2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • John’s place is cozy. The place is very vintage and I loved it. John added special touches to the room to make it special. It was really nice and we felt very comfortable.

The environment is as mentioned not so picturesque but the connection is great. Parking is not a problem, especially since everything can be reached on foot. A great apartment for stays of four people.

  • Clean, quiet and cozy. Krista responds fast and let us come in early due to working nights. I had a mishap in not including two guests when it was myself and my fiancé. I really didn’t know there was a difference but that one is on me. She responded fast and worked with us to get partial refund back when we had to leave due to the virus. Definitely recommend.

    Rhianna2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • I most appreciated the owner’s prompt responses to my questions and requests in advance of my stay. It’s a stately home built nearly 150 years ago. The first floor is nicely appointed with modern furnishings. It’s quite comfortable to sit in the living room and watch the world go by. The house is within walking distance to the “happening” places downtown. Many restaurants to select from. My room was clean and comfortable. The bed and its duvet were comfortable and helped me have a good night’s sleep.

    Jim2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for visiting Conn College, Mitchell College, or Coast Guard Academy.

    Joanne2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Krista was a fantastic host! She has a beautiful property with all the amenities one could need. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone.

    Jonathon2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had the pleasure of a three-month stay and it was a great temporary home. Room was exactly as pictured, bed is comfy, and WiFi is fast...wonderful value for short or long term lodging. Never had a problem parking across the street or getting access to bathroom/shower and always plenty of hot water. I can only remember one night (out of 90+ nights) where other guests were loud/noisy past 10p [start of "quiet hours"] and they quieted down before midnight. Book here with confidence...this is a super clean, affordable, centrally located spot in New London and Krista is definitely a SuperHost.

  • The place is amazing. It is like a mini hotel, but all the extras like kitchen and laundry room make it better than staying in a hotel room.

Here's what one of my cherished guests wrote: "Paul’s Flat on the Thames River is a spectacularly cute oasis, just a short walk from carbohydrate heaven, Paul’s Pasta (no relation... I think). His hospitality was lovely, there were several wonderful amenities including tea and coffee. Holed up inside on a cold day with the shades drawn, you could feel as if you were hidden away in the chicest fishing lodge in the great whir north."
Welcome to The Flat on Groton Bank! This is a second story studio flat in a charming historic home, built in 1890, and nestled in the historic Groton Bank neighborhood.
Groton Bank is a historic village on the east bank of the Thames River in Groton, Connecticut. The Groton Bank neighborhood contains three churches, a library, two museums, a Revolutionary War fort and business structures dating primarily from Colonial times to a century ago. Groton Bank and Fort Griswold are separate but adjacent Historic Districts listed on the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Register of Historic Places. Groton Bank retains its village character of earlier times with a spectrum of village architectural styles including Colonial; Federal; Greek Revival; Victorian with its sub-styles of Italianate, Mansard, Carpenter Gothic, Stick style, Queen Anne, and Cottage style; Shingle style; Old English; English Tudor; Romanesque; and Neo-classical—all in an area of only about a dozen square blocks. Many of these structures retain their original appearance. Since Groton Bank’s 19th century residents were prosperous some of them enlarged or added “modern” features to their earlier era houses. For example, some colonial and Greek Revival houses have later additions or embellishments such as Victorian bay windows or porches.
