  • Absolutely stunning inside and out. The location is beautiful and isolated but close enough to any amenities you might need. We loved cooking in the large kitchen with the whole family of 9 around the breakfast bar. The kids had fun exploring the house and sledging in the fields. Can’t wait for our next visit

  • This is a stunning flat! Very new and absolutely spotless. Communication with Leanne was brilliant and the check-in/checkout process was seamless. We loved all the small touches, such as the wee drams of whisky and gin. We also appreciated the enormous bed (no fighting over the duvet!) and the waterfall shower was to die for! Little Birch Cabin is surround by fantastic scenery and wildlife. We are beside the RSPB Insh Marshes nature reserve and the beautiful Cairngorm mountains. The cabin backs onto a large forest leading into Glenfeshie the Cairngorms and beyond. Red Squirrels, Badgers, Pine martins, Crested Tits and many more are frequent visitors. Loch Insh Watersports is 3 miles away. Highland wildlife park is a superb nearby attraction. It is an ideal location for all nature lovers, walkers and cyclists.
The cabin is set in a natural Birch garden and has ample private parking for several cars. We have recently added a sitting room extension with French doors leading to a seating area. The wood burning stove makes a great addition in the winter months. The garden is a haven for wild life and due to the fact that for many years we have put out feed for the birds, badgers, squirrels and pine martins at the right time of year they can be viewed and photographed from the comfort of the cabin. All the wildlife pictures shown have been taken from the cabin. The surrounding woodlands and trails can be accessed straight from the garden and no roads have to be crossed.
Insh is a quiet hamlet with a small church and is adjacent to the RSPB nature reserve on Insh marshes which is a natural flood plane for the river Spey. There are several bird hides on the reserve where you can visit just down the road and watch the wild life. Ruthven Barracks is also a short distance away and is free to visitors and well worth a visit. In the other direction from the village is loch Insh where you can enjoy the water sports or take a drink or two.
  • The cabin was wonderful! We turned up and had about 30 birds in the garden, and couldn’t stop watching them! (Counted 17 species in total!) The location is amazing, we could only stay a few days but with so many great walks and things to do close by, made it the perfect spot. We were lucky enough to have snow too, and with the wood burner it was super cosy. Angie and Chris were really helpful and friendly, topped up the bird feeders too, and left us some biscuits and milk which was much appreciated! Loved the wooden mice around the cabin too!

    Liz2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a place I cannot praise it highly enough. The hosts are the most helpful ever. Chris even helped dog my hire car out of trouble. Great place for a base to explore from and also for a quiet night in front of the woodburner.

    John2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I wholeheartedly recommend a stay at this beautiful cabin. It is utterly charming with a cosy, stylish and comfortable space to relax in and enjoy the abundant nature around you from. You can sit in front of the log burner and watch birds/ wild hares/ red squirrels to name but a few or put you boots on and get into the forest. Chris and Angie were brilliant hosts and made every effort to make our stay smoother and more enjoyable. Chris had very kindly put on the log burner when we arrived so we came into a cosy cabin after a long drive and had made sure that we had tea/coffee/milk and some shortbread. Perfect. We have already recommended them and the cabin to family. We had the pleasure of experiencing some snow. The cabin was just idilic. The cabin is slightly up an incline so I would encourage people to think about winter tyres if you are visiting in potentially icy conditions.

    Govind2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little cabin, with everything you could ask for and more! the stove is brilliant and a great place to put your feet up and watch all the wildlife! We took our dog Braigh and he loved it too! There are loads of brilliant walks right out the back garden. There are also plenty of shops, cafes and nearby. 10/10 would recommend and we will be back!

    Emma2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for a wonderful time Angie & Chris. The cabin is so cosy and spacious. We loved wood burner and winter evenings by the fire. Local forest is just behind the cabin and it's great for walks and bike rides. It's only 30min drive to Loch Morlich which is one of our favourite spots in a beautiful Cairngorms. What can we say, beautiful setting with forest and wildlife on your doorstep, owners are so lovely and always happy to help and answer all questions you may have. We absolutely love Scotland and we try to travel there a few times a year, we've visited quite a few places and the Little Birch Cabin is a winner for us, it was a love at first sight and we can't wait to go back!

Soillerie Beag is a self-catering cottage in the quiet village of Insh in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage lies on the boundary of the Insh Marshes RSPB nature reserve and has views across the open countryside to the Spey Valley and Monadhliath Mountains to the north. The area is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, offering walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching, golf, sailing, climbing and ski-ing. For those looking for a quiet retreat, Soillerie Beag is perfect.
Soillerie Beag was originally built as a 'granny extension' to our old family home, and was retained after the main house was sold some years ago. It is still used by the extended family for holidays throughout the year. You will find it well stocked with books and maps to refer to for footpaths and cycle tracks. The house enjoys lots of natural light and lovely open views across the fields to the hills. You can walk straight out the front door into the surrounding countryside.
Insh is a small quiet village in a beautiful part of Badenoch and Strathspey. The Badenoch Way is a matter of metres from the front door, Glen Feshie and Glen Tromie are within comfortable walking and cycling distance. Rothiemurchus Estate by Aviemore is well known for great walking, cycling and sailing, and of course the Cairngorms for the more adventurous walkers. Sailing and windsurfing are also available at nearby Loch Insh. Other local attractions worth a visit include the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore and the nearby Highland Wildlife Park. Eating spots of note include the Old Bridge Inn and The Mountain Café in Aviemore, and the Druie Café in Rothiemurchus
  • Soillerie Beag is one of the nicest Airbnbs we've ever stayed in. It's spacious yet cosy, the kitchen is better equipped than my own, and the views from the living room and kitchen are outstanding. The house is super clean and has everything you could need, including maps and suggestions for exploring the local area. We did lots of lovely walks nearby, some of which we started straight from the house. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend Soillerie Beag and hope to be able to return myself one day.

    Rachael2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This must be the best airbnb we have stayed at - beautiful home with fabulous views of the insh marshes and the most comfortable bed. We felt at home and it was a great location in the heart of the Cairngorms. Bridie was an extremely helpful host and there were plenty of leaflets on hand about the local area. Would love to come back again

    Kerry2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place in the heart of the Cairngorms with lots of walks close by. Unlike many Airbnbs, Bridie's place has everything the things you'd have at home so no getting stuck without something you need - and lots of thoughtful touches.

    Jemma2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This space is an amazing combination of snug and cozy and spectacular. The views from the kitchen, which it is a pleasure to use - if you like to cook, are awe-inspiring .Bridie's personal hints and tips and domestic touches made us feel so welcome, we honestly did not want to leave. I suspect she may be seeing us again in the future.

    Lea2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most magical stay at Sollierie Brag. The host had made an incredible effort to make us welcome in the beautiful cottage, which was spacious and also cosy with exceptional views of the fields and hills. She had left a welcome gift of Brie, oatcakes and wine for our arrival. Everything was exceptionally clean and well organised. I was amazed at the lengths gone to provide comfort for the guests - there were lovely towels, candles, lots of lovely kitchen utensils, spare duvet covers and even a summer togged duvet if it got too hot, stationary and games and carefully chosen printed out maps for easy walking. The location of the cottage is fantastic - there are plenty of walks and water sports close by and you can drive to the start point of longer hiking trails. The nearby town of Kingussie has a few shops and supermarket. We loved it here, and we are so grateful to the host for the extra attention she put into making her home so special and comfortable. Absolutely recommended!

    Jordan2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • You can’t beat the stunning views from the cottage. Beautiful. Our stay was very comfortable and cosy and loved seeing the local pheasant and hare just outside.

    Chris2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Soillerie Beag is in a very peaceful location set well back from the road. It enjoys outstanding views over the countryside. It is very homely and comfortable. It offers the perfect opportunity to relax and chill out or to take part in numerous outdoor activities such as walking, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking. It is the perfect place to unwind and refresh yourself.

    Andy2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay - best view I've ever had from a living room! Good access to the Cairngorms and all the activities it offers. House is comfortable, with everything you need provided. Bridie is an excellent host, giving us clear instructions on check-in etc. We had an amazing week and would thoroughly recommend a stay here. 10/10!

A luxury cottage located in the Cairngorms National Park in an idyllic location between the popular villages of Kingussie and Aviemore. Perfect for a romantic getaway or as a base for families to explore the wilderness.
Railway Cottage is a traditional railway worker's cottage dating back to the early 1900s. Recently given a new lease of life by the owners, the cottage has been thoughtfully redecorated offering a luxury, boutique experience in the Highlands. Located beside the RSPB nature reserve at Insh Marshes, there's no shortage of spectacular views, and the popular villages of Aviemore and Kingussie are just a short drive away. Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and those looking for a romantic getaway. Stylishly renovated, the cottage boasts a living room with a huge log burning stove, 3 seater couch and arm chair, a 40', wi-fi enabled smart TV, with Netflix, Spotify, catch up TV and DVD. Additionally their is a BOSE stereo, with bluetooth, radio and line in, to connect music players / laptops. For dining, set back from the fire, there is a solid oak, Edwardian table for 4, with all you will need to prepare a meal through in the kitchen. The kitchen combines the industrial sense of the railway with the serene surroundings of Insh Marshes; a polished concrete work top, inlaid with stainless steel fittings, between beach cabinets and bur elm shelving. Everything you'd expect in a modern kitchen is nicely tucked in there; dishwasher, fridge-freezer, separate wine-cooler, 4 way ceramic hob, double oven / grill, micro-wave. The tiled floor stays cosy with under-floor heating (also in the bathroom). The views of the Cairngorms and Insh Marshes from both kitchen and living room are just incredible. Both bedrooms have luxurious king size double beds, with high-quality, cotton linen; a chest of drawers, desk/dresser and wardrobe; sheep skin and Persian rugs underfoot, colourful prints on the walls. Each has their own radiator with thermostat and black out blinds, for the snuggest possible night's sleep. The bathroom is decadent, with heated, Mediterranean style floor tiles and bespoke Victorian mahogany pedestal, below white, tiled walls and quality chrome fittings. The bath is a deep, relaxing, roll-top style with claw feet. Heated towel rail, hand crafted bur elm shelving and large mirror with shaving light make up the rest. Cosy dressing gowns, slippers and plenty of thick, cotton towels are all provided for you. Outside, the cottage is surrounded by incredible views. The garden itself is bordered sporadically by a variety of trees - birch, beach, oak, elm - providing some privacy but letting plenty of the view in. A large decking area has dining space for 4 on it, plus loungers for all. It looks south, so enjoys the sun most of the day and overlooks a bespoke, stone fire-pit, with benched seating made from old railway sleepers. A large lawn, with webber BBQ, double hammock, complete the back garden on the south and west sides of the house. The front garden looks across the railway and Insh Marshes and enjoys some of the best views of the Cairngorms there are. We hope you'll visit Railway Cottage, a home from home, in truly breathtaking surroundings.
The cottage and the local area boasts spectacular views and no shortage of wildlife for neighbours. Situated by a railway line and next to a RSPB bird reserve, it is the perfect spot for bird and train spotters. There are fantastic walks for all grades straight from the cottage and all across the local area - the list is endless! Footpaths take you from moor to woodland and riverside to loch edge. As well as walking and mountain climbing there is sensational mountain biking and cycling to be had with some of the best trails in Scotland. Whether you are looking for a cliff-top challenge or a quiet ride out in the countryside, the Cairngorms has a cycle route suitable for everyone. You can make the most of your cycle safe in the knowledge that a welcome pit stop is never too far away. There are many great activities to do while taking in the beautiful scenery. The historic Balavil estate, known to millions as Kilwillie from TV series Monarch of the Glen, is described as the "jewel in the crown" of sporting estates in the country, and is just across the road. The Highland Wildlife Park is just a mile north of the cottage and hosts a wide range of local and more exotic creatures from polar bears and snow leopards to red squirrels and Scottish wild cats. Alvie Estate is a beautiful highland estate near Kincraig and is well worth exploring. There are many activities available - quad biking, horse riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, zip wire park, and bushcraft survival classes. You can feed the deer in the winter months or watch sheep being clipped in June. Tours can be organised if you want to learn more about our countryside and how the estate makes a living. Venison, lamb, beef, strawberries, raspberries and smoked trout can be purchased from the Dalraddy Holiay Park shop (depending on the season or by contacting the farm). Loch Insh Watersports offers sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, river trips, rowing, fishing, dry ski slope skiing, archery, mountain biking and hill walking. Hire and/or instruction is available by the hour, day or week. For those interested in our history, Delfour Standing Stones are located on Alvie Estate dating back 6000 years. There are Iron Age forts, the Wolf of Badenoch's Castle at Loch an Eilean, Ruthven Barracks by Kingussie, the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore, steam railway in Aviemore, Culloden battlefield and a number of country houses and castles to see nearby.
  • A warm and peaceful retreat in the beautiful Highlands. Log burner, the isolation and the lovely touches in the house make for a truly relaxing time.

    Nicholas2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The railway cottage is incredibly picturesque! Was a lovely cozy weekend at the highland wildlife park and carving wood at Inshriach estate. If you have a car it's especially helpful as it is a bit tucked away from restaurants, but we grabbed some groceries ahead of time and loved just being away from crowds by the fire. Great bathtub!

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice. Just as advertised. Had a lovely weekend walking in the National Park.

    Sarah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Railway Cottage is the kind of hideaway you dream of - seemingly secluded but so close to great sights and activities! We watched ermine and rabbits - and exciting trains! - out of the windows while the fire roared, we had cosy nights in all, great baths and showers - and those beds are what dreams are made of! Liked it so much I have already recommended to local Edinburgh friends. Make sure you go to the Safari Park to see the polar bears, circumnavigate Loch Morlich and pitstop at the Mountain Cafe in Aviemore. Great stay!

    Jenna2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Railway Cottage is a lovely place to stay. It has lots of character and the log burner makes it really cosy. The underfloor heating is a nice touch and the clothes airer above the fire is really handy for drying wet clothes. The kitchen is perfect too, great for cooking and has a large fridge. You get used to the train noises. It’s advisable to have a car to drive to Kingussie and Aviemore. A great cottage for exploring the Cairngorms! Recommended.

    Jake2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at the cottage. It is beautifully restored and is cosy but spacious enough for four adults to enjoy comfortably. The location is fantastic (well located for walks at the marshes and just a quick jaunt from aviemore) and the scenery is gorgeous. Passing trains were not an issue! Thanks for a great stay!

    Nicole2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Railway cottage is full of character and located in a beautiful spot with gorgeous views from all of the windows. With excellent access to local attractions like the Highland Wildlife Park and a working sheepdog farm, it was also really convenient to be close to both Kingussie and Aviemore. The trains added excitement and didn’t wake our sleeping 15 month old. Kim is a really helpful host and will be sure to help you with any queries. Very cosy with a roaring fire!

    Paul2019-10-11T00:00:00Z

Kincraig lies at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty containing some of Scotland's most treasured landscapes and rare wildlife. Braeriach House is set in a peaceful location on the River Spey.
  • Charming spot on a beautiful river in the heart of the Highlands...ask for paddles and be sure to canoe from the house the short distance up to the Loch. Then ask Fiona for the perfect hiking recommendation for your level.

    Catherine2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Fiona's. 5 stars well deserved!

    Anja-Maria2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation with great view and garden. Delicious breakfasts and very helpful local information. Strongly recommend.

    Stevie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's place is very nice, set in a beautiful nature. The breakfast was delicious and Fiona gave us great trips how to enjoy the surroundings even during rainy days. One of the best Airbnbs I stayed in.

    Lydia2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful rooms and views of the river! And great tips for walking and other activities

    Hannah2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Fiona's for 2 nights and it was lovely. The house and the garden is beautiful, and the view from the room is fantastic. Fiona gave us some excellent local tips!

    Iva2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • I'm not sure where to start with the accolades: the view, the location, or the hospitality. What we noticed first upon arrival was the glorious garden and spectacular view. The property is superbly maintained with colors of the rainbow bursting in the foreground while a river and mountain view completed the scene--it is something to see. Breakfast, the best we've had, was served in a dining room with french doors leading out to the view. It was lovely. Fiona was wonderful to ask about our plans for the day and offer tips. We suggest not missing the Frank Bruce Sculpture Gardens, some of the other walks, and/or the working sheep herding dogs which are all a snap from the Airbnb. If you're lucky, you'll be greeted prior to the sheep herding demonstration by the dogs and their puppies--what a joy! For food don't miss the Old Bridge Inn in Aviemore, about a 10 minute drive. Staying at Fiona's place seemed like a blessing; it was heaven!

  • Dez, Kat & Coral are such welcoming hosts, always on hand if you need anything. The stables is a lovely wee cottage, perfect size for the two of us to have a cosy and relaxing holiday, with lots to do nearby and everything you need in the cottage itself, including some really thoughtful touches.

  • Dez, Kat (& Coral) have an amazing little place in Kincraig that my family thoroughly enjoyed staying at during our week in the Highlands. What a perfect base to explore from! It was made very homey for us, even providing safety/play/sleep items to accommodate for our toddler - giving us peace of mind and helping our little guy feel at home while on the road. We do a lot of travel, but I don't think have ever felt as "at home" as we did here. I couldn't recommend it more!

Cottage 1 is part of Inshriach Estate, a small working farm, hospitality business and home of Inshriach Gin. There are beautiful views over the Monadhliaths and Cairngorms and immediate access to spectacular walking, mountain biking and snowsports. We also border the River Spey on which you can fish. Inshriach Estate and the Cottage are an adventure and a bit different. If you are willing to embrace that, you will love it. We are 4 miles south of Aviemore and 1 hr from Inverness Airport.
The cottage is basic but charming. It is an old building with no central heating but there is a good log burner, electric radiators in every room and an electric blanket. It gets very cosy with these going but please don't imagine the cottage to be a naturally warm place. There is no stand-up shower - the ceilings are too low - but there is a beautifully hot bath and an electric shower head that can be used while in the bath.
  • We had an amazing stay in the cottage. Lizzie and Walter are welcoming and friendly. The cottage is around 10 minutes drive from Aviemore and the Cairngorm mountain range. The house was cosy and really warm when the fire is lit. There was nothing else we needed for a fun winter weekend. We’ll definitely be back!

    Rob2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A sweet little place away from it all. Lovely and clean, and though quite chilly in Febuary, the hot water bottles were a thoughtful and useful touch!

  • Amazing cottage in a stunning location.

  • The farm is in a beautiful location, you have lots of amazing scenery and walk right on the doorstep. The cosy fire was lovely to come back to after a day out. It was a great winter break! Lizzy and Walter are great hosts with lots of tips and fantastic gin!

  • This is our third time at the cottage and it’s still as lovely as ever. Great walks from the house, an amazing sauna and a lovely fire and huge bath to come home to!

    Laura2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable and cosy stay at Lizzy and Walters farmhouse cottage in January. The woodburner was the perfect way to warm up after a days hiking. There is also a river to dip into if youre feeling brave, with a sauna and hot tub!

    John2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage with an excellent wood burner, plenty of electric heaters and blankets. A very cosy place to stay, even in January! Also a very well stocked kitchen.

In the Spey Valley, Scottish Highlands near Aviemore beside a pine forest stretching into Glenfeshie, Cairngorms mountains and the RSPB Insh Marshes. Squirrels, badgers, deer and pinemarten can be watched from the comfort of the patio window! While enjoying the peace of this small village there are food shops & station 5 miles away and food, gift, sports shops are 10 miles away. The west coast, Inverness, Braemar, Edinburgh are all possible as day excursions.
The Old Log Shed is set in a quiet location with easy access to all parts of the Highlands, most sports one may think of and wildlife at your door. Suitable for 2 persons. The main room has south facing patio doors to an outdoor living area where you can enjoy watching the wildlife. There are information sheets on where to walk for an hour or a day and others giving ideas of day tours (I have tried them all)
There are lovely places to walk from the house with views over the valley in a peaceful atmosphere. The mountains for ski-ing, climbing etc are about 12 miles away. This is an excellent centre for travelling in all directions of the highlands to view its history and scenery. There are good restaurants in Aviemore - definitely recommend The Old Bridge Inn! and Rothiemurchus Visitors Centre do really good lunches and baking. The Old Post Office in Kincraig is a must for coffee or lunches. Loch Insh also has good restaurant facilities.
  • The Old Log Shed was really nice and peaceful. It's a small space but it has everything a couple would need. There are lots of nice walks nearby. It's great that you can top up the bird feeders and watch the birds through the window. Kate's instructions on finding the place were easy to follow. We would definitely go back if we went to that part of Scotland again.

  • A lovely bijou cottage with everything we needed.

    Lynn2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Really great place in a really nice spot in the Cairngorms. The garden is great entertainment in itself to look out on. We saw a red squirrel which, being from London, made our year. Kate was really communicative and helpful. And it's great value. Definitely recommend.

  • Good place to stay for a quiet holiday. Lots of nature and walks nearby. Small town in under 30 car minutes. Kate was very quick in her responses and made sure everything was ok

  • Amazing! We highly recommend staying! The log cabin is lovely and cosy and we could of easily never left! The wildlife in the garden is brilliant and the surrounding area is stunning! With Kingussie not far you have everything you need. And if you are the type for outdoor walks and cafes, or even outdoor adventure then you will be spoilt for choice! We hope to be back soon!

  • The Log shed is in a great location- Insh is a quiet village, with food shops in nearby Kingussie, and with two RSPB reserves close by. We had a very comfortable stay and slept very well without disturbance from any artificial lights from outside. Highly recommended the log shed!

This self catering cottage was originally a rural school built about 1830. The cottage is situated on the edge of the village of Insh in Strathspey with the Cairngorm Mountains on one side and the Monadhliath Mountains to the west. The cottage adjoins the famous Insh Marshes Bird Reserve. There are several good golf courses nearby. fishing is also available and the whole area is very scenic and perfect for walking. Three miles away is beautiful Loch Insh where water sports are available.
  • The Old School is a beautiful cottage, with stunning views out across Insh marsh. From the window you can see so much wildlife! Willie is a fantastic host. He was welcoming and able to accommodate us at short notice, and gave great recommendations of things to do nearby. We went on a super cycle on a quiet route recommended by Willie to a remote Loch where we saw eagles. The Caingorm mountain ski area is also easy to drive to, where we spent a great week skiing. The facilities are excellent: a lovely open plan kitchen /living room with a wood burning stove, well stocked kitchen, with all the little things you need; two warm shower rooms with plenty of hot water; spacious bedrooms with great views; an entry hall for muddy boots etc. The house has been well kept, and is modern and very clean. All in all a great Airbnb which I thoroughly recommend! Thank you Willie!

  • This place is just perfect, and I cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed our stay here and appreciated the work that has gone in to running this place. We really could not find any fault at all, this truly is a lesson in how to run an AirBnB! Willie was the perfect host, providing a warm welcome when we arrived and providing great local tips and advice, as well as helping us out when we tried to get out the driveway in the snow! At the same time, he respected our privacy but we always felt he was on hand if we needed him. The Old School has been renovated recently to a very high standard with everything a couple or small family would need for an enjoyable stay, in fact it far exceeded our expectations. The place was completely spotless, and very tastefully decorated. The lounge has a lovely woodburner and there was extra wood available if needed. The kitchen is large and very well appointed with all the amenities you could want, plus supplies of the basics (salt, pepper, oil, tea and coffee etc.) plus a few extras if required. The cottage was cosy and warm when we arrived, and stayed that way throughout our stay, despite storms and lots of snow. There are two modern shower rooms, complete with heated floors (which we really appreciated!) and a utility area/porch to keep the wet stuff (this is the Highlands after all) out of the house itself. The location is perfect for exploring the area and we would not hesitate to recommend it, as long as you don't book it for when we next intend to visit ourselves again!

  • A warm and friendly welcome to a clean and homely property packed full of thoughtful touches. Really well equipped and very clean. Willie was on hand to welcome us and offered some fantastic local knowledge. Great location for exploring the local area and further afield if that takes your fancy with the A9 about 10 minutes away.

  • What a lovely place, if we could rate 6 stars, we would. Just everything is perfect, Willie and Mary are wonderful hosts and their cottage is the best we ever stayed at! Hope to see you next year! Warm regards, Bonne, Marjolijn, Liewe and Kiek

  • Everything about our stay at the Old School House was fantastic. We travelled with our two children (10 years, and 6 months), and this house was the perfect base for us. It was immaculate and very comfortable. The kitchen was also well-equipped. We brought our own travel cot and high chair for the baby, but there was more than enough space for these in the house. Willie’s hospitality was second-to-none. He gave us recommendations on things to do with the children, which we took. They really enjoyed the Highland Wildlife Park and the Highland Folk Museum, both of which are close by and are well worth a visit. On Halloween they even left us some decorations outside the house and took our oldest child trick or treating with some of the locals! This is an excellent Air BnB - one of the best we’ve ever stayed in. We’re really looking forward to when we can come back! Thanks again Willie!

  • The Old School House in Insh is just superb with breathtaking views. 5 star accommodation with the friendliest of hosts, Willie and Mary.

  • What a great place! An amazings hosts - Willie and Marry were kind and thoughtful, they gave us good tips for travelling. The location of the house is great for those who appriciate quite nature, but with exellent communication to all main roads. Perfect starting poing to explore Cairngorms and Highlands. Spent there with my family whole week, and would like to stay even more! The house is very comfortable for a small family. There are puzzles and DVD for rainy days. A little squirrel comes visiting in early mornings. Lots of beautiful birds. Red deers just outside the village. Our kids loved this place. The house has everthing you need for comfortable stay for any ammount of time. Very clean. Very good WiFi, considering the location in the mountains. Stylish and cozy. Couldn't wish for more. Most recommened.

  • Willie’s cottage is cosy, stylish, well-situated, peaceful and a perfect base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park by foot, bike or car. We were given a warm welcome by Willie soon after we arrived; he’s a lovely, friendly guy and he showed us around, gave us all kinds of handy tips on the local area, and even offered us storage for our bikes! The cottage was extremely clean and everything in good working order, with unexpected extras such as an incredibly well appointed kitchen, heated towel rails, luxurious underfloor heating in the bathrooms (I didn’t know I needed this in my life!), and a big telly with freesat and DVDs. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms were plenty warm enough even when the temperate dipped down to -1 on Tuesday night! Willie left us the kind of cooking necessities that it’s often a pain to try to bring yourself, such as oil, salt, and pepper, which was a very welcome touch. The photos don’t do this place justice - the interior decoration is modern, clean, and tasteful, so there is a rural and authentic feel with all the modern comforts you’d want after a long day walking. Lovely view of the mountains from the back of the house, and at the front we saw red squirrels on more than one occasion! This is a great spot for nature lovers such as ourselves as it is very close to woodland trails (where we also saw red squirrels and small birds) and near to the RSPB reserves where we saw a marsh harrier. The road is on National Cycle Route 7 which we used several times and it’s a beautiful ride to Aviemore. Such a beautiful place to stay and we were sorry to go! A week was nowhere near long enough. PS Thank you for encouraging us to visit the Highland Folk Museum - we had a great time!

  • A lovely cottage in a beautiful spot, great if you really want to get away from it all. Deirdre and Mairi are wonderful hosts and go out of their way to make you feel at home. We didn't have a car and were fortunate that they really offered to help us out as the cottage is about 3 miles from Kingussie. The cottage is cosy and has everything you would need, and was a great base for lovely walks and cycles.

  • Painter's Cottage has been one of the most pleasant stays that we have experienced on Airbnb. Deirdre & Mairi have applied some beautiful touches to the cottage making it feel cosy, home-like and pleasant. The one bedroom cottage is sparkling clean, with everything you need for a short or long term stay. The landscape from the large living room window is just as beautiful, adding an extra spark to the cottage. We had the best stay here over Christmas and would highly recommend this stay to anyone looking to experience the Scottish highlands and surrounding villages. We can not give thanks to the hosts enough- they were amazingly caring, welcoming and polite.

Lots of kitchenware and food items to get started, inc really nice Arran toileteries., towels galore and lots of heaters to keep cosy. Several nice touches like smart tv, bottle of wine, all very generous indeed. Also kindly cleared space in their garage for our mountain bikes. Location wonderful - brilliants walks, mountain biking etc., from the door and Kingussie a short drive away. We were sad to leave but hope to be back. Jamie and Sophie

  • We had a very quiet and relaxing getaway at Painter's cottage. The place is an annex to the main house with only a couple of neighbours down the track, so there really was next to no light or noise pollution. We felt like we had truly got away! Make sure to grab dinner and supplies before arrival because the nearest shop is a good few miles drive away! The cottage itself was beautiful and cosy, with everything we could have needed for our stay... and that duvet... that was Something else! Mairi was on hand to greet us and offered some excellent local tips. We found Mairi's place to be an excellent base to explore the amazing lochs, forests and mountains that we were so craving. Thank you Mairi and Deirdre!

    Abbie2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had high expectations for our week and these were exceeded by the beautiful cottage and warm welcome provided. The cottage is tastefully furnished in a bright, modern style, complemented with high quality soft furnishings making it a wonderful space in which to relax and enjoy the views of the mountains from the sofa! Situated in a quiet location there is direct access to paths and tracks should you wish to amble, run, hike or bike up glen or mountain! And should the weather turn inclement the cottage provides the warm and cosy retreat to enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake. If we return to this part of Scotland then Painter's cottage will be top of our list for somewhere to stay.

The cottage is situated in the ancient Caledonian pinewoods of Drumguish, teeming with wildlife and close to the small town of Kingussie. The area is in the largest National Park in Britain and the Cairngorms are the most extensive range of high mountains in the UK, with a vast tundra-like wilderness plateau and magnificent corries at the heart of the region.
Hello and welcome to what was our home for many years, a beautiful converted croft cottage, situated in an idyllic location enjoying rural views over the Monaliadh mountains. The cottage is perfect for family groups, especially those with children. There are no main roads nearby and children can roam through the forest and fields. Sitting in nearly 1 acre of garden, this offers a wild paradise for children to discover local nature. The property overlooks the RSPB Insh Marshes and we see deer, red squirrels and large birds of prey nearly every day. The owls hoot at night and with no light pollution on clear nights the stars are amazing. There are a many great walks and cycle rides which you can start from the village and we can also point you in the direction of an amazing choice of local amenities such as the Highland Wildlife Park which is now home to four polar bears and many other endangered species. Glenfeshie is a mere 3/4 miles walk away and this is where scenes from Outlander and The Crown were filmed. Loch an Eilean with its romantic castle in the middle of the loch is also good for more gentle family walks. Those who enjoy a more vigorous exercise can follow trails throughout the mountains or try out the Burma Road. This walk/cycle runs above Aviemore towards Carrbridge and has the best views over the valley. There is also tubing, mountain bike touring, pony trekking and zip wires in the locality. The nearest shops are just 3 miles away in Kingussie and the tourist centre of Aviemore is 12 miles away for restaurants, cinema, pubs, cosy live music venues, mountain biking, skiing, local beer and gin distilleries and much more. Inverness, Culloden Moor and Loch Ness is about an hour away by car as is Cawdor Castle and the many distilleries of our famous Speyside whisky. A trip by car to Braemar and Balmoral takes you over remote moors and glens. Any questions please send us a message. The accommodation consists of: 2 Standard double bedrooms 1 twin mezzanine bedroom with combed ceiling, perfect for kids (restricted height on 2 sides of the room but still suitable for 2 adults if they don't mind it cosy). Sun Room with underfloor heating, leading off the kitchen with seating for 8. Snug - small sitting room off the entrance porch with seating, table suitable for working and a wood burning stove. Entrance porch which has ample room for boots and coats etc. WC with washbasin and general storage. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. This has an overhead rail for drying washing or wet outdoor clothes. Outside: Large garden with direct access to woods. Pizza oven. You can then add your own choice of topping. Outdoor furniture - table and several chairs and bench with some rugs and cushions in the chest in the sunroom. • Amazing view and location ! the house is spacious and very cosy. Bridget was very nice and welcoming, definitely would recommend.

  • We had a wonderful relaxing time in this cosy home in a fantastic area of Scotland with lots of lovely walks in the forests and hills from the door and biking trails. The weather was wet/snowy and very windy for the whole time but we had the fires to come back to and got out every day despite this. I would especially recommend the Highland wildlife park with its polar bears and other cold weather animals-it's amazing. Also the pizza oven was a real treat and Fraser and Bridget were so welcoming and hospitable and went out of their way to get the oven going for us. They were always accessible and responded quickly to texts living close by with their 2 dogs. We saw one red squirrel and some deer and lots of birds, mainly from the sun room which is a great area to relax and observe. The jigsaws kept the children and adults busy for the whole week-including some lovely wentworth jigsaws. Thank you, definitely plan to return in the future-maybe the summer next time!

  • A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location!

    Jethro2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We've just had an epic 3-day trip to the Cairngorms, and Bridget's place was a big part of that. The house is spacious and cosy, with two amazing log burners. The sun room was the perfect spot to take photos of the red squirrels and the views. Treats were left for us after our long drive up there, and Bridget met us when we arrived and made us feel totally at home. It looks like Bridget's doing an amazing job of keeping the place eco-friendly, too, which we're big fans of. Not only all of that, but the location is fab. Not great if you're looking to be in the hustle and bustle, but perfect to be out the way. There's a shop about a ten minute drive away in Kingussie, and uncountable numbers of mind-blowing walks and vistas within half-an-hour's drive. And the walks through the wood directly from the house - just awesome. Overall, it's exactly what we were looking for from our first trip to the Cairngorms. Thanks so much to Bridget!

  • A quirky cottage with lovely wood burners and even more amazing Pine Marten and Red Squirrel visitors. Big property with lids of space for a family just a couple. Fantastic views in a lovey setting, not the easiest to find in the deep snow!

Aspen is a modern cottage ideally located in the Cairngorms National Park for discovering this beautiful part of Scotland. It is semi rural and quiet. Built for us as a second home in 1996, the cottage was remodelled in 2017. The bathrooms are modern, the living areas are spacious, with two lounges. The 1/4 acre garden in birch woodland is fully enclosed by fences. An added luxury is a hot tub with jets and i-pod friendly to listen to your favourite music while relaxing.
The Cairngorm Mountains are a half our drive away. Being located centrally in The Highlands means many visitor attractions and experiences are within an hour's drive. For hillwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts many hills are within 2 hours drive. Loch Insh Watersports is 5 mins drive and Loch and Loch Morlich Watersports 25 mins drive. The Spey Valley boasts numerous golf courses in breathtaking mountain settings; fishing on the Rivver Spey can be arranged locally. Scotland's Whisky Trail is a half hour drive north. Castles abound and Balmoral is 2 hours drive. Why not take in a local Highland Games? Or just walk locally to the beautiful Loch Insh 5 mins away. Here in Speyside you will never be short of things to do!
  • A lovely house, with everything you could need and more. The hot tub is fantastic, and there are plenty of great walks and watersports in the local area. I would happily recommend this cottage to anyone.

In a wild 1 acre garden, this split level house has the feeling of a retreat. With immediate access to lovely walks and 5 mins. drive to the Loch Insh Outdoor centre, ideal for summer (cycling, horse-riding, safari park) and skiing in winter. We now have a local house-keeper who will provide bed-linen and towels (so the price reflects that now) and she cleans the house, though it's helpful if you keep it as tidy as you can. NO SMOKING plse
This house is our 2nd home (and is equipped as such) where we try to retreat to it from our busy lives in Glasgow as often as we can. The kitchen should have anything you need, including tea-bags, herbs etc. We only want to rent it out enough to cover running costs. Plus we hope to put a hot-tub in at some point. Our friends have commented it does have a Scandinavian feel to it (probably because of the pine floors and pared-back decor). We have recently installed 40 meg fibre broadband and a 50" Ultra HD LED TV to give our visitors the option. We have better quality family time with the TV and wifi switched off and have made more memories and had great conversations in this house. There's plenty of space for two families (4 adults and 6 children). PLEASE NOTE that I've changed the advert from 10 to 8 to reflect the fact that 10 adults would be too much of a squeeze (much reduced floor space in the bunk rooms due to the trundle beds) although drop me a line if you don't mind that! Finally, it's got great access to cycling and walking routes in the area.
Kincraig is a special wee Highland village with the best pub in the area (our favourite in Scotland, in fact) ; The Suie Bar. You will receive a warm welcome there and it is 5 minutes walk away. Remember to bring a head-torch as it gets very dark walking to the pub and back in the autumn/winter months. The skies are full of stars and there's almost no light pollution in the area. The Inshriach Potting Shed tea-room has the best cakes and coffee and the Boat House Restaurant at Loch Insh is recommended. The Bistro in Kingussie is new and worth booking. Kingussie's Butcher (George Gow) is wonderful. For larger family gatherings, who want to use Torronaidh as a base, we recommend the Braeriach Guest House (lovely B&B) for additional visitors who want a peaceful retreat from the main crowd. The Highland Safari Park is amazing and if you're organised ahead of schedule, you can use tesco vouchers as follows, to save on entry costs: https://secure.tesco.com/clubcard/boost/highland-wildlife-park/UK-002282.prd You can use tesco vouchers for the Landmark Centre too. Check the club card website.
  • A loverly space in a great area, Julie was super helpful and helped make the stay really enjoyable

  • Great place to use as a base to explore this beautiful part of the country.

    Carl2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Good communication from the host. Wild, wooded location. Great atmosphere with the fires on. Excellent TV and soundsystem. Nice kitchen. Stunning views. Good walks from house. There is a trainline at the end of the garden which was a surprise but maybe I missed something in the description. Had to buy quite a bit of extra wood for the fires as the weather was very cold and the house is not the warmest. The rooms lose their heat quite quickly once the heaters are off so I would recommend bringing warm clothes, thick socks and budgeting for extra firewood if the weather is cold. (Tesco in Aviemore sells logs and heat briquettes.) We nonetheless had an amazing stay in this house.

    Thomas2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, a superb nice wood burner and the comfy and spacious shared spaces made it perfect for our large group. Julie was a great host and very easy to keep in touch with. A perfect base for the majesty of the Cairngorms.

  • Lovely location, Julie is a great host, very responsive to any query. When first arrive, you might be put off by the low temperature in the house(in winter months) but once the fire is lit, the house will warm up very quickly. Garden is massive, great place for kids and dogs. Safely fenced if you have a smaller dog or one that is not interested to escape. There's so many things to visit nearby and it's a very quiet location. Overall very happy with the house, definitely recommend it and looking forward to come back

  • My family and I had a lovely time! Emma was away, so her father, Dermot, had greeted us and stayed with us in the property to ensure he was able to help with anything we needed. Dermot was great to chat to and was also very good at giving us our own family private time. We really enjoyed our time there. The house is big and spacious and yet, very comfortable and cosy. Dermot had provided plenty of bedding and towels for our use. The house was also constantly kept warm. It was also in a good location where it is very close to all the attractions. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay in this home and would definitely be wanting to return back here again!

  • Kirkbeag is simply stunning. The accommodation is beautiful. We were staying to celebrate a retirement and it was the perfect place for the occasion. Every room is furnished so tastefully with lovely touches like complimentary toiletries. We even got to know a local taxi driver who delivered a takeaway from Aviemore to us. Definitely hoping to return again.

  • Fantastic, big, spacious house in a wonderful location with stunning views. There was not a single complaint from our group about any detail of the house and in fact we found ourselves complimenting the house on multiple locations throughout our trip. Communication with Gavin was very easy and he was very accomodating of any requests we made along the way. Would highly recommend Gavin's house for anyone looking for a nice quiet relaxing weekend or a weekend of hiking and adventure taking in the local scenery, and with the train station only a few minutes drive away Inverness is a mere hours travel from the location as well, which I would recommend a visit to also.

    Donal2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Gavin's communication is excellent and very fast. His accommodation is beautiful from the decor to the views. He also has a lot of home touches that made everyone very comfortable. The rooms were clean and warm and there were plenty of bathrooms. As expected he had instructions for all the amenities and plenty of resources to use each (wood for woodburner, dishwasher tabs, washing detergent etc). We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return!

Close to Aviemore. You’ll love our Victorian shooting lodge because its within the Cairngorm national Park and has fabulous mountain views. It's great for families, big groups, and pets as it has a large enclosed garden. Hot tub, outdoor seating and a Gas BBQ. Close to the Highland wildlife park, Loch Insh , Several Golf courses. Alvie Estate Zip wire park and horse riding. Shooting and fishing can be arranged. Friendly locals bar adjacent to the property with Regular traditional music sessions
Getting out and about in the country is always nice – but we all know that the best part is rewarding yourself afterwards with a cold beer. With that in mind we are delighted to report that the Suie Bar has been included as number 11 in a round up of the best traditional country pubs across Scotland by the Herald newspaper. It is also featured in the good beer guide 2018. Our guests enjoy having this available on their doorstep to enhance their visit by interacting with our friendly locals and some have brought along their musical instruments to join in the Thursday night music sessions, where everyone is welcome.
  • Beautiful big house and Mike & Wendy were so friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this house to any group and we hope to return in future!

    David2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 5 nights in Suide Lodge which was a great treat. We were 2 families with 10 children aged 9-26. The house has a great location in the center of the Caringorms area, close to Aviemore, and close to many tourist attractions. The house is very big and spacious has 6 separate bedrooms each with a shower and toilet which was very convenient for us. The common areas include a very stylish well equipped kitchen, a large dining room which allowed all of us to sit and eat together and two very large living rooms with a fireplace and were full of books and games. The house is beautiful and is very nicely decorated in a very authentic Scottish style which contributed to the warm atmosphere. In addition there is a very large backyard with a BBQ and nice tables. The showers were a bit of an issue (which we found also in the other house we rented in Scotland) the heat of the water was flaky and the same for the intensity of water flow. In conclusions we had a great time and we highly recommend the house for a large group!

    Merav2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Suidhe Lodge. We were a large family group with grandparents, parents and kids in a range of ages. The lodge had space and excellent facilities to cater for the group. The kids had a great time in garden. The small kids enjoyed the use of the big slide. Adults enjoyed the hot tub and bbq. Mike and Wendy were great hosts and provided good tips on things to do in the local area. We found Kincraig to be a great location from which to explore the area.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the suidhe lodge, it was the perfect venue for a big family gathering for birthday celebrations. Wendy and Mike were very welcoming and helpful and we had everything we could have asked for and more. The house is beautiful and very homely with a fantastic hot tub and a brilliant garden for the kids to play in. Having the pub next door was great and we enjoyed the local band on the Thursday night...and a few games of Pacman! Would recommend to everyone and anyone, thank you again for a wonderful stay xxx

  • A great welcome from our hosts. Got the heating and log burner going as we arrived on motorcycles in wet weather. Helpful with grocery shopping and the bar next door was great. Highly recommend!

  • We can’t recommend Suidhe Lodge enough! There were 14 of us, all adults, for a week. There was more than enough space in the communal areas for us to spend time all together or to hang out in separate rooms. We spent hours enjoying meals round the huge dining room table. The hot tub was also a highlight, such a nice way to relax after a day of adventures. Kincraig was an easy drive from Inverness and a great base from which to explore the area. Beautiful walks straight from the house, a lovely garden, and easy to get to other great spots for hiking, walking, kayaking, clay pigeon shooting, whisky tasting, and the beach. We also loved the Thursday night live music in the bar next to the house. A couple of other things that made a big difference with a large group: the whole house was very soundproof so we didn’t disturb each other, every bedroom has its own bathroom, and the kitchen was really well stocked for cooking & baking. We would definitely go back to Suidhe Lodge again. Thank you Mike & Wendy!

  • Really lovely space for a get together with lots of friends. Beautiful location- with lots of great things to do around including looking round the lochs and a shops in the local town of Aviemore. The hosts were really friendly and were always there to help. The hot tub went down a treat with all the guests. The rooms were all a good size with ensuite and were all clean. The bar next door is an added bonus with lots of friendly locals and a folk music night on Thursdays! Thank you Wendy and Mike for an amazing stay in Scotland

Wildcat Lodge is a delightful spacious secluded home with a luxury Finnish sauna and is the perfect spot to relax whilst exploring the Highlands. Formerly an historic coach house, the converted Farm Steading nestles within the Insh Marshes National Nature Reserve and the Cairngorms National Park. Enjoy stunning local scenery and world class outdoor leisure options. Our four bedroom family home is immaculately furnished in Scandi-Scots style, with spacious living areas, and a private garden.
After a day's adventure in the hills and beautiful Cairngorm National Park, relax in our outdoor sauna, and then enjoy our spacious Highland luxury home with log stoves and everything you need for a relaxing break.
We enjoy a secluded location within a nature reserve one mile from Ruthven Barracks (built by the Redcoats to keep the rowdy Jacobite Highlanders in order). We have world class outdoor leisure options on our doorstep.
  • The Wildcat Lodge is a very special place to stay indeed. A group of us spent an extended birthday weekend here and had a wonderful time. The lodge is just as advertised- great atmosphere, amenities, very clean and well situated for hiking. A car is recommended but there are lots of trails accessible by foot in the area. The sauna and fire pit really raised the bar, and the wood-burners in the downstairs rooms ensured that a wintery March weekend was cosy and memorable. Exceeded all our expectations. Highly recommended.

  • We had an excellent Christmas at Wildcat lodge. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. we loved the Scots scandi vibe, and the sauna. Ron and Tricia were easy to communicate with and went the extra mile setting up a stunning Christmas tree and leaving a few treats for us to enjoy. great for walks from the door. if you're looking for a base in the Cairngorms look no further.

  • Spacious and comfortable lodge with all modern facilities. Modern kitchen. Comfortable lounge areas with wood burning stoves. Large sauna and fire pit in garden. Great for socialising, very reasonable & definitely worth a visit.

  • Everything the pictures show, and more! Lovely, modern and spacious but with charm and original features. Our two families with four young children enjoyed it thoroughly, and the kitchen and two living spaces were perfect for us to stretch out and spend quality time together cooking, eating, playing and listening to the awesome record collection. We didn't quite have enough time to sample the sauna, but it looked awesome. Something to save for next time! The chickens in the courtyard were a delight and the location was excellent.

Rathmhor is a traditional stone and slate house in Lynchat, two miles north-east of the town of Kingussie in the Cairngorms National Park. The house sleeps up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms.
Ground floor: fully-fitted kitchen with electric range cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine; dining room seating eight; shower-room; front and rear porches; tumble-drier in cupboard under stairs; large twin bedroom 1. First floor: sitting room seating eight with wood-burning stove; king-size bedroom 2 with en-suite shower-room; small twin bedroom 3; king-size bedroom 4; family bathroom. Free wi-fi, the speed is around 7Mbps. Large walled garden; courtyard with parking for up to four cars. Beautiful views south across Strathspey to the Glen Feshie hills beyond. And for rail enthusiasts, the Highland Main Line runs only one field away, so you can watch trains go by from the front windows!
The original houses in Lynchat (‘field of the cat’ in Gaelic) were built by the local Balavil Estate in about 1830, although we think Rathmhor may incorporate parts of an older house, possibly dating from 1805. Lynchat originally had five similar pairs of semi-detached houses in a line along the old Great North Road. It has changed over the years, with some of these houses demolished, but Rathmhor is the least altered of the remaining original houses.
  • Rathmor was a great base for our week exploring the Cairngorms. Cosy, stylish and immaculate it made a comfortable home for home - always good when travelling with young kids! We were lucky enough to have lots of snow while we were away so thoughtful touches like sledges for the kids were well received. I’d definitely recommend a stay here!

  • Rachel and John were so friendly and responsive leading up to our stay, offering lots of information on local attractions. The cottage was spacious, beautiful and very well equipped. We didn't want to leave to explore! It is the cleanest air bnb we have ever stayed in. Totally spotless. The local area is stunning...a new favorite for us! Highly recommend.

  • This house is absolutely beautiful. It’s very spacious and has 3 bathrooms, yet is lovely and cosy by the fire. It’s very warm inside and has an accessible location close to the A9 and a short drive from Aviemore. It is very well equipped with everything you would need including books and guides full of local tips. Would recommend!

    Hannah2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • This home was wonderful! So clean and fabulous little homey touches. I would absolutely stay here again.

    Amy2018-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Rathmhor is a beautiful and most stylish home which we enjoyed together as a family. It’s a large country house with lots of space, an amazing boot room, spacious bedrooms with beautiful bedding and fluffy towels. The decor is perfect and reflects the scenic views from every window. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need and open dining room lets families spend time together around the lovely table. A large back garden allows the children to play safely and from here a path leads directly onto the most wonderful walks and you can explore the National Park on foot. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the sheepdogs in action. I can’t recommend this stunning house highly enough and will hopefully return in the near future! Thank you Rachel and John... your hard work and love for your house is evident with such warm touches. Xx

Forest Cottage sits amongst pine forest on Loch an Eilein’s wooded shore, in the heart of Rothiemurchus - one of Scotland's most picturesque Highland estates. This picture-perfect, red-roofed cottage was beautifully restored as part of Hidden Highland Retreats in 2018, with a homely interior straight out of a folk tale. From the front door, walk down the heather fringed path to where the forest opens out and the loch laps against the shore. NEW: TWIN BEDROOM UPSTAIRS FOR UP TO 2 CHILDREN
The double height living room is achingly charming - from its little window seat to its original stone hearth and wood burning stove. The kitchen is fitted with all the luxury appliances you could wish for - from a big range oven to a wine fridge. The interiors reflect both the infinite variety of woods and greens of the forest, and the vintage fabrics and simple furnishings that would have been found in this cottage over the centuries. The bedroom is fairy-tale romantic with its super-king bed and red and white cabin-luxe decor. It leads through to a luxury contemporary bathroom which incorporates little touches of decadence amongst the simplicity of the woodland surroundings. You have a rain shower, whirlpool bath and even a cleverly hidden flat screen TV at one end of the bathtub. NEW: A PRETTY TWIN BEDROOM UPSTAIRS CAN ALSO BE MADE UP FOR YOU ON REQUEST IF YOU ARE BRINGING CHILDREN. Hidden Highland Retreats also has a cottage on the opposite shore which sleeps 2 - Loch an Eilein Cottage, as well as a luxury farmhouse sleeping 6.
Only two cottages sit on the loch - Forest Cottage and its sister property, Loch an Eilein Cottage. We own them both (Hidden Highland Retreats) as well as a luxury farmhouse nearby which sleeps 6 - Achnahatnich House. Both cottages are accessed via private forest track closed to other vehicles (other than estate rangers). Rothiemurchus is a beautiful Highland estate which has been in the care of the Grant family for eighteen generations. At its heart lies this enchanting loch, and one of the largest areas of natural forest in Britain, with an extraordinary variety of wildlife that depends on it for survival - from red deer to birds of prey. If you wish, you can take part in various outdoor activities on the estate - from clay shooting, fishing, quad bike or pony trekking and off-road driving, to archery, wildlife watching and canoeing. The wonderful Farm Shop is just a couple of miles from the cottage, where you can stock up on delicious home-grown produce, from its succulent Highland beef and velvety wild venison to fresh rainbow trout and sweet heather honey. You can also browse chocolates, seasonal wines by Corney & Barrow, home-made fudge, home baking, chutneys and preserves (made exclusively for Rothiemurchus), haggis, black pudding and bacon, a wide variety of artisan cheeses and much more. It shares the old school house with The Druie Cafe, open daily 9.30 am – 4.30 pm.
  • Lovely cottage fantastic location

    Tom2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a 3 night stay in December. The cottage is in an excellent location, secluded but still easy to access local services, some walkers around during the day but quiet at night, and great also if you have the dog with you (a ready made dog walk of just over an hour around the loch). Inside, it was laid out perfectly for a couple, with lots of thoughtful touches that quickly made it feel like our home, and the Christmassy touches were a nice surprise too. Not sure how you managed to make it snow as well, but we enjoyed that wintry look too. Would definitely return, and recommend it to all.

    Andrew2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay in the heart of the forest! Even with some pretty wet weather we had a great time walking in the Cairngorms and then spending long evenings in Forest Cottage with whisky and a log fire. Our dog was not impressed when we dragged her away from the loch for the last time!

    Roger2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cosy cottage in a stunning and convenient location. My dog, Fig, loved the huge garden! All of the personal touches made us all feel relaxed and welcomed. The bed was very comfy. Excellent cooking facilities. I recieved a massage from Katerina who came to the cottage and she was lovely. We will 100% be back in the future for another peaceful relaxing break.

    Estelle2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a beautiful stay in the forest cottage, one would like to stay forever. No matter which room of the cottage you are in you feel spoiled and at home. Knitting in the living room at the fire, watching an old James Bond DVD, sitting on the bank at the window watching the birds and the squirrel outside, enjoying a beer or wine (one of the lovely welcome gifts), having the best and relaxing sleep in the sweet bedroom, lying in the bath (while watching tv if you wish - as in the bedroom), preparing a meal in this amazing luxurious bright kitchen and enjoying it in the beautiful backyard garden - heaven! Not to forget the beautiful nature surrounding you, the lake, the woods - a special place!

    Susanne2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. The space goes above and beyond. It seems like you have thought of everything and the space is used very efficiently. The cottage is in a great location, wonderful views and access to the lake and when you are wanting to stay inside it is so comfortable and relaxing. Shower and bath is wonderful! Overall, perfection.

    Casandra2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! A slice of heaven. Beats staying in a boutique hotel any day. The amenities of this cottage are nothing short of amazing, everything (everything) has been thought of. Could not have been more comfortable. The cottage is secluded in the evenings and mornings but has a bit of a buzz around it with walkers and mountain bikers during the day which brought some welcome activity to the area. The farm shop a few miles walk away was fabulous too. Could not recommend Forest Cottage enough. Can’t wait to return!

    Anna2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

A superbly equipped self-catering Highland cottage in Cairngorms National Park. Perfect for all ages + great facilities for kids. Large, sunny ¾ acre woodland garden with BBQ. Fabulous views of hills. Close to Loch Insh. Aviemore/Kingussie 5 miles away. Golf, fishing, riding, skiing, sailing, quad bikes, whisky trails, beaches + dolphins in the Moray Firth & Loch Ness. Great local restaurants & pubs and much more! A brilliant location from which to explore the Highlands.
Under new ownership from October 2019, having operated as a successful, 5* Airbnb for the last few years, The Sangar is tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in one of the most beautiful and sparsely occupied parts of Scotland. It is an exceptionally comfortable, spacious, centrally heated cottage with all "mod cons" and is ideal for families. The large woodland garden has several areas in which it is great to relax, and kids just love exploring the specially maintained paths through the heather and woods. A fine old gas BBQ and outdoor garden furniture sit close to our hyperactive red squirrels which never fail to entertain & delight.
The Sangar is at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park which contains a multitude of amazing attractions. From golf to fishing, skiing to sailing, wild-life photography and unusual outdoor & indoor activities to keep kids (and adults) interested and amused. The list is almost endless and visitors return year after year to enjoy the hospitality of the area and its people. Please refer to the many other sources of information as there really is so much to do. Kincraig is a very special village with a charming cafe (The Old Post Office) and characterful local pub (The Suie Bar). Loch Insh Watersports and Boathouse Restaurant is an easy walk or short drive/bike ride away.
  • My family stayed at the Sangar over the New Years Eve period. The accommodation was beautifully presented with all of the mod cons from home. It was very cosy and we were never cold. There is a cool little bar around the corner too which we visited with Family and Friends. Loch Insh Outdoor Centre is a quick drive down the road or a nice 10 min walk. Carl was an amazing host. Highly recommended.
