Places to stay in Harcourt
Nestled in the Harcourt hills, this studio apartment is perfect for a weekend retreat or country getaway. The studio is set back from the main property, adjacent to the open paddocks of this rural setting. Less than 10 minutes from Castlemaine and a short drive to the mountain bike track, vineyards, orchards and walks, Victoria’s apple capital makes for an idyllic escape. Dine on a seasonal breakfast and choose to either enjoy your seclusion or have a cuppa or meal with the friendly hosts.
The space is a newly renovated studio, complete with small kitchenette (coffees/teas/toast), cosy queen bed and gorgeous outlook. There’s a fold out couch for another double bed option. Relax outside under the veranda, or stroll around the nearby paddocks (we’re on an acre block, but back onto neighbouring pasture). The studio is part of a small regenerative property project. We’re re-planting trees, growing veggies, nurturing chickens and reviving the nearby creek.
The Harcourt valley is Victoria’s apple growing center. Explore the fruit orchards, enjoy wine tasting and lunch at premier vineyards, relax on scenic Mt Alexander or picnic at Harcourt’s Oak Forest. For more adventure, Harcourt’s new La Larr Ba Guawa mountain bike park has some of the best trails in the state and is a short ride from the property. Historic Castlemaine is 10 minutes down the road. Enjoy the food, galleries and parks of Victoria’s gold country.

Situated in the foothills of Mt Alexander, Blue Devil Cottage is the quaint original Victorian farmhouse of Hillside Acres farm. Fully renovated, it is an ideal place for both the energetic and those wishing for a more relaxing holiday. We welcome kids, and can get them & you involved in herding ducks or feeding pigs. For mountain bikers, you can ride through our back paddocks directly onto the new La Larr Ba Gauwa Mountain bike park - or it’s just two km along the road to the trailhead.
Our lovely quaint cottage is entirely yours - two bedrooms, a lounge room, a fully equipped, separate kitchen and a large bathroom. The front veranda overlooks the formal garden and picturesque dam and there is a sheltered back verandah for rainy or hot days. Spend the day exploring the many delights of Central Victoria or just sit on your little veranda, sipping one of the local wines from a dozen nearby wineries, and watch the sun go down as nature whispers around you. For the more energetic, there’s walks galore accessible from the farm, and the mountain bike park is only minutes away.
With views out to the Harcourt hills from the veranda and Mount Alexander just behind, Blue Devil Cottage is an ideal base for walking, either gentle strolls around the farm, or serious bush walks into the trails on the Mount.
  • We had a very relaxing stay at Blue Devil Cottage. The kids loved exploring the farm and we loved the pretty cottage and scenic surroundings. Can recommend the bacon too!

A place to get away from it all and yet have all the modern conveniences. Quiet setting on the edge of a small country town (please check where Harcourt is before booking!) conveniently placed for access to Castlemaine, Goldfields and Bendigo. Only 1 hour from the north western suburbs of Melbourne & half an hour to Bendigo. We can accommodate children however please check the full description of the property to make sure its suitable for your situation.
Two spacious bedrooms one with King Bed and other with Queen, large walk in shower, fully functional kitchen with marble bench tops and dishwasher. Two reverse cycle air-conditioners and two wood burners (small daily charge if using firewood from shed), large flat screen TV in lounge, TV in master bedroom. City dwellers please note that this property is on the edge of a small quiet country town which is awesome for relaxing in comfort and getting closer to nature however there is NO WIFI provided (the reception for all the main mobile providers is good). The town of Harcourt has a wonderful character and it only has one store, one petrol station, a Post Office and a Motel. Its possible to easily walk to either of them however to access the other larger towns in the are such as Castlemaine or Bendigo you would be best to have a car. I recommend that you check a map online to get clear where Harcourt is in relation to these towns as we have had people low score the location and I would prefer that you are fully clear on where you are headed before booking. Large country block complete with 3 Alpaca's and a pet sheep. Can accommodate Pets such as dogs as long as they are kept under control and pose no threat to the local livestock, if they are to be allowed inside they will need to be kept on the hard floors and not in the bedrooms especially not on the beds. Children are welcome however please note this is a rural property and there is both adventure and possible risks for children! Specific known risks If you use fireplaces be aware there are no child protection screens that can be placed in front of them. Creek running through property is not fenced and can have deep water and weeds/other plant material present. Cleaning products in cupboard under sink in kitchen and on shelves in laundry. Power sockets in living and bedroom areas (note all protected by RCD's at mains) Alpaca's are timid around humans however we suggest that children are under supervision when in the paddock.
Harcourt is the premier apple and cider centre of Victoria and also has a thriving cherry and wine industry. Quiet country town that used to be on the main route from Melbourne to Bendigo and is now just a short diversion off the Calder Freeway. There is a quirky local store, fuel station, Cidery's, Winery's and a very unique place called Woop Woop which while you will need to book is guaranteed to entertain.
  • We had a great stay here. The house is very comfortable and very well setup. Thanks to Noel who is a very thoughtful host.

    Kerrie2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for a quiet getaway. Loved the alpacas and this was an ideal space for some time out.

    Melinda2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place that is even nicer than the pictures show. Comfortable, spacious and setup as a true home away from home. A beautiful home in a lovely setting.

    Merrilyn2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Noel’s place is a hidden gem with everything you could ask for & more . Great value and location . We will be going back there in the feature.

    Donald2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, plenty of space and nice and private. Thanks Noel!

    Tayla2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second stay at Noel’s place, and it’s still just as I remember - quiet, sparkling clean, cosy and well equipped, and Noel is very easy to communicate with. We stayed for the Maldon Folk Festival as the house I s only 20mins to Maldon, 10mins to Castlemaine and also an easy drive to Bendigo. A great base to explore the area!

    Meg2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, comfortable, rural property. Had everything we needed including washing machine and dryer, highly recommend.

    Rachael2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house in a perfect location. Great areas that allowed everyone to sit and have their own relaxing time, but also allowed space for shared activities (i.e. enough seating for everyone to watch television or play cards at the tables indoors and outdoors). Also appreciated that there was more than enough cutlery, dishes and kitchen utensils to allow normal everyday living and cooking. Perfect house, perfect host. Thanks so much!

  • Had the best stay in the beautiful Pink House!

    Jasmine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage. Super charming and well furnished. We loved the garden. Also very comfy bed! The only thing - which is not Bonnie's fault at all - is the bedroom window backs onto the beer garden of the pub next door, which didn't have loud music or anything, just some laughs and conversations.

    Niama2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie's place is in a great location in Castlemaine. As some of the other reviewers have said, it's location right next door to the Bridge Hotel pub means that when a band is playing it is very loud in the house, but as we stayed on a Sunday night the band finished at 5.30pm so this was not an issue for us - a Friday or Saturday might be different though! The cottage is so cute and charming, and in an absolutely cracking location for vintage shopping and a walk around the botanic gardens (just down the street!), and one of the best pub meals we've ever had at the Bridge Hotel next door! We would definitely say here again!

    Bianca2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • Spent two fabulous nights at Randall and Helen’s studio. It was a wonderful surprise as we are newbies to Air BnB. The studio was spacious, well-appointed and clean...a real home away from home for us. Randall and Helen were super easy to communicate with and very approachable when advice when required. They were especially helpful when we had a car and health hiccup during our stay.

We loved your little touches that went the extra mile. The bed was extremely comfortable and the modern bathroom just added to the 5 star experience. The beautiful decor, your lavender scented garden and the starry starry night, made it a very memorable stay. We will most definitely be back.

  • Lovely place for a night or 2 away, quiet but close to castlemaine still, beautiful gardens and amazing snacks/breakfast provisions provided! A++

    Peter2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Judi’s hospitality is without equal. We arrived in the dark to cozy elegance. It was beyond our expectations. The complimentary cheesecake, fresh baked bread, chockies all added to the delightful ambience. And what a surprise in the morning to see the garden - a mini, mini putt putt, all manner of ornaments, jonquils, daffodils, outside tables, barbecue. We highly recommend a stay.

    Janis2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed twice now and loved it both times, there is a reason we went back. Such a great space with so many nice little touches that add up to an amazing experience! Judi is so welcoming and makes arriving to this amazing place that much nicer. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone, we will definitely be back again.

    Leon2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Judi is the type of host that makes you feel she has your needs as her top priority. Nothing was too much trouble as we enjoyed the serenity of the cottage by the creek. We were toasty warm in stylish surrounds and found the location to be central to everything we needed.

    Judith2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • I read the reviews here prior to booking my stay, and the experience exceeded our expectations. Everything you needed (and more) was provided by Judi and Lou, who were extremely hospitable and cared for us during our trip. They even left their dinner early one night because we couldn't figure out how to turn the spa on (silly us!) Many thanks from myself and Alex and we look forward to coming back soon!

    Steph2019-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is fantastic for a weekend getaway like the one we had. Judi goes over and above to make you feel welcome, with home baked goods and a well stocked fridge. The spa is a wonderful feature and the heating in each room kept us nice warm on a cold weekend.

    Daniel2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fabulous place to stay! Less than 10 minutes from the main town. Freshly Baked scones and a loaf of break, plus fresh orange juice and milk from the local market was provided upon arrival. Judi and her partner are so so kind, making the stay feel so welcoming and comfortable. Would definitely come back to stay again

We're about 20km from the fabulous Mountain Bike Park at Harcourt. We live on 20 acres on a quiet road. It's a lovely undulating cycling area for road bikes. You can join the Goldfields Track 3km up the road for a robust hike. The garden we're creating is attracting plenty of birds. Plenty of kangaroos visit. The cottage is 15 years old. It's near our house, separated by a double carport. You'll have your own separate carport away from our place and the main entry and verandah of the cottage face away from us so it is all very private. It's peaceful, quiet and restful. Our place is 15 km from Bendigo and 25km from Castlemaine. Both are terrific towns with many festivals and cultural activities. The gallery in Bendigo has amazing visiting exhibitions. A good choice for a rural getaway. A chance to see kangaroos and birds. We have fruit and veges growing and a garden we've been planting for 4 years which you are welcome to wander around. We are very happy to help with any queries otherwise will leave you to enjoy your space.
We love our quiet space while being close to town. The starry skies, moon rises and sunsets are a treat.
There's a tennis court 1.5km down the road available for use next to our local hall and CFA. The Bendigo National Park is nearby with the Goldfields Track easy to access. There are free walking tours in Bendigo or self guided walking tours with audio. You can be as active or restful as you choose in this area.
  • Such a lovely stay! Wonderful hosts with such thoughtful touches. A very comfortable stay, we will be back soon!

  • We absolutely loved our stay, such a beautiful little country cottage with everything you need. Our kids have been entertained with books and toys left for them and they loved our evening walks to the back paddock to see the Kangaroos. • What a beautiful little place!! Such a relaxing weekend with incredible views of the surrounding country side and Mount Alexandra. Home was spotlessly clean and had cute quirky decor. Hospitality was incredible with Roger and Brett going above and beyond. Loved being able to view the stars, moon and even Neptune through the telescope! We will certainly be back!!

    Lauren2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts. Fantastic kitchen. Thank goodness for the open fire place and electric blankets as it was so cold when we were there. was lovely to be greeted by the chickens at the door in the mornings. We stayed for two nights but most of our time we were in castlemaine for a birthday and hanging with friends, so we didn’t get to spend too much time on site but when we did we were greeted with smiles and everything was well stocked for us. We had a toddler with us. There are some games and books there, I would suggest bringing your own dvds if you need to entertain your little ones at night as there’s no internet in the house nor a stereo to pipe through some kiddy songs for them so you may consider bringing your own. But with that said we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the vistas.

Come and enjoy the picturesque Mandurang Valley. We live on 6.5 acres and are a great base to explore all that Bendigo has to offer; the Art Gallery, Capital and Ulumbarra theatres, Central Deborah Mine, the popular Markets, Music/Food/Wine/Beer festivals and the many great cafes and fine dining options including award winning "Masons" and "The Woodhouse" We live opposite the Bendigo Regional Park which boasts many mountain bike tracks and are also in close proximity to some local wineries.
Put your feet up and relax in our stylishly fitted out shipping container with it's well appointed kitchen, (induction cooktop, microwave and coffee machine included!) bathroom and comfortable queen size bed. There is split system for heating/cooling and fridge/freezer available for guest use.
Living on a lifestyle block we definitely have our own space - we can barely see our neighbours. Visitors often comment on how relaxed they feel here.

Self-contained accommodation with a dollop of luxury for couples, families and groups of up to 6. The Scout Hall was built in 1907 and retains many original features but has been stunningly refurbished and has all modern conveniences.
Built in 1907 and lovingly restored and renovated, the Scout Hall is a unique and fascinating place to stay.

Situated in tranquil bushland, just 7 minutes by car from the vibrant township of Castlemaine, this warm and inviting solar-powered mud-brick cottage is just the place to relax and unwind. Discover the local wildlife and treat yourself to peaceful bush walks.
In the early mornings and evenings you may see kangaroos grazing. There are also many different bird species including kookaburras, cockatoos and rosellas. For coffee lovers and ardent shoppers, Castlemaine, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are all within easy reach.
Campbells Creek is unique to the central goldfields region. On your way through the bushland to the cottage you'll see shallow mines dug in the gold-rush days. The post-office is a 2 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Stop in for a browse at Book Heaven on the main road into Castlemaine if you’re a book lover.

Enjoy peace and quiet in self-contained and comfortable accommodation attached to historic building in bush setting. Attractive, air-conditioned large room which includes a kitchenette. Private bathroom and verandah. 15 mins to Castlemaine & Maldon.
The retreat is an attractive addition to 1870s hand-made brick school which I have transformed into a home where I have lived for 25 years. The place is surrounded on three sides by a beautiful bushland reserve and to the west there are views of Mount Tarrangower and the Nuggety Range.
A bush reserve surrounds the property. I am happy to take guests on a 20 - 30 minute morning walk around this reserve if arranged the day before.
  • Cosy, comfortable and clean. This lovely little cottage on acres is a wonderful getaway. Castlemaine is easy driving distance and when I was done there, the cottage was perfect for chillaxing with book, tv, glass of wine. Thanks for all your local knowledge Bronwyn.

  • It is such a peaceful place in the middle of gum trees. It is well equipped and just enough to cook for 2 people. There is a nice track for a pleasant nature walk through the gum trees which you can spot lots of different birds, kangaroos and if lucky an echidna too! Bronwyn is a very friendly host. It was very nice of her that she offered to accompany me during the walk. It is ideal for people looking for some quiet time. It is a bonus to be just 10 mins drive from Castlemaine.

Retreat to a garden setting yet short walk to hub. Mid and Long term rates at Redhaus Artist Cottage are slashed to below cost. Oh Rothaus - if looks could kill: Quirky aesthetics define the interior, the floor is rough, the chairs are few, the walls argue with one another leaving a lacunae worthy of Doctor Who. But the tea service is vintage, the milk jug handmade and the bathroom (real bath) is a tongue-in-cheek gold-encrusted blue. It is available as add-on at a budget rate for guests holding concurrent room bookings or during festival time and other special events i offer it with a single bed and bar fridge for a semi self contained short stay. Note: it is not automatically included with the whole house 2br offer. GREENHAUS - the earth and you: All new interior paint is Low VOC for your wellbeing. Solar panels augment grid power, gas for all things hot, and much as we aspire to passive thermal it is nigh on unachievable in a solid masonry colonial with original features like this. At least the air-con is 5 star rated and more passive solutions will be added as we can. Natural cruelty-free organic products are supplied In the bathroom, kitchen and laundry along with natural vinegar, bicarb soda and recycled p.e.t. microfibre cleaning cloths. We expect you will want to use your own shampoos. Who Gives a Crap supply our paper products - each roll supporting clean water projects where its needed in the world. And we proudly support ethical locals, such as Hepburn Spa natural local mineral water. RADIOHAUS - aka the WIFI: We provide unlimited wifi service at 2.5 & 5 Ghz (thanks to the infamous Australian fibre-to-the-where-exactly NBN service. Let me know of you have issues with the speeds, so we can vote accordingly in the next election). You will find a usb hub with popular charging cables and a JBL portable bluetooth speaker to augment your devices. SAFEHAUS: Both rooms have their own internal security deadlock. There is also an artisan made recycled timber lockbox with self select combination code padlock to secure your things of value. The studio is a self contained space with its own private entry. The area is generally safe. RADHAUS: With your wholistic creative objectives in mind, we' ve left you some yoga mats, musical instruments, books, and information on art galleries and cultural events. There are great opportunities for En Plein Air painting round the historic streetscapes and rural outlooks. Ask about using the extra project space in the adjacent Art studio, ARTHAUS: To BOOK THE STUDIO for projects, workshops rehearsals or private use please contact us directly when you book your room, because we don’t make it appear as available on the app by default. Price will depend on your planned use, sliding from $8 to $80 extra. You are welcome to invite non guests to work with you there, but you are responsible for any work or tools not belonging to you. ROSENHAUS: Generous garden surroundings offer great picnic and reading spots, and these are cared for by a wonderful retired teacher and neighbour, Dianne. If you see her on her daily watering rounds she's also a great source of local information, (or gossip if you want to go there. Its a toggle tap tho, be advised.) RATTENHAUS Pets can be accommodated in most cases but as 'pets' is a broad term we just ask you to discuss your animal companions with us and accept certain parameters, like picking up poos (Dianne is totes NOT a fan of doing this FOR you). BREADHAUS: Breakfast is right across the road at Grists bakery - great coffee and pastries - but only until 3pm if your lucky and Never on Sunday. Our sunny kitchen includes microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full gas stove with oven, a wok, a huge Javanese mortar and pestle, and all the utensils you should need. Please note in funny old Castlemaine food ceases to be available in town after 8:15 except at the supermarket which mostly closes at 9pm so hit up the gorgeous wineries and food markets early for supplies if you are a night owl. More info on my fave places are on the info shelves - but check 'This Little Piggy' in Barker st for Asian supplies if you ever find it open! WASHHAUS: There is a washing machine for your laundry. Just hang it out to dry on Australia's iconic Hill's Hoist out the back. An iron is provided and that yellow step stool is a depression era ironing board! Tilt the back and lock. . Its small but darn cute and does the job. Make sure to use the cover provided though. HOTHAUS For Heating & cooling, there is a split system reverse cycle air conditioner in the Rhino Rhoom, gas space heaters in the living room and studio and a portable personal fan for your comfort. We spurn the 50 cycles per second electroblanky and provide instead the wholesome therapeutic British Standard Hot WaterBottle for winter aches chills and loneliness. ROARHAUS: With bus stop and post box right out the front, Redhaus is convenient and accessible precisely because it is on the main highway into Castlemaine from Melbourne. Traffic is sedate but constant letting up only in the wee hours. Fabulously tho its just 1.2 km to two handmade markets in both directions, and barely a few steps further to reach the town hub, wine bars, cafes, art galleries , cinema and supermarkets. 5 km will get you to an idyllic natural bathing spot at the reservoir take Sutton Grange Rd from Chewton, it shows up on gps maps. PARKINGHAUS Off street uncovered parking is available and can accommodate 2 vehicles easily. Additional parking in the street is also available. Avoid crabapple shade tho as fruit will drop on yr car! Partyhaus: PARTYHAUS of a social or cultural nature are welcome with an upper limit of 12 people (or more by prior arrangement). See house rules for more details. ~ ~ ~ I know you will love the community and values in historic Castlemaine and the special vibe at Redhaus Artist Cottage & studio. Zebronky the zebra donkey says "Come and stay!".
Castlemaine is a creative community loads of artists, hipster trendy tree-changers yet still with a small town feel. The locals are likely up early doing yoga, feeding animals, plying a building trade or commuting down to a Melbourne office job. But there is lots of community, social capital, grass roots ethical endeavours, art events including a state festival, and history preserved in this first iconic goldrush town. Australia's labour movement began here as did the fated expedition of colonial dumbfucks, Bourke & Wills. (Today we honour the traditional custodians and their elders past, present and emerging, and look forward to an age when we listen more closely to their sage advice!) Swim in the reservoir, try Henry's local cider. Artisan treats. Markets. Bookshops. Antique and Horsey business. Gold detectors and offroad cyclists rove the mineshaft-speckled bushlands in their respective uniforms, lol, oh and we're famous for vintage custom Hot Rods, tooth-cracking candy and bacon. An idiosyncratic mix.
  • I loved this place. Quirky and comfortable. No tv , but we didn’t miss it, we listened to the radio, we got to chat, read and sit on the porch with a gin and tonic. I would stay here again definately. Mary

  • Cute and unique house in a great location. Enjoyed our stay!

  • Awesome stay as per usual in Indijas‘s rustic cottage

    Eoin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Redhaus is not your average holiday rental, all wipe-clean surfaces and put together with an Allen key. It's stylish and welcoming and deserves to be a local attraction in its own right. Indija's warm and wild touches - all those rhinos! - make it a truly memorable stay.

    Robyn2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Redhaus has so much character. The queen bed and day bed are so comfortable and we loved all the art work around the place. The front porch is a fantastic spot to watch the world go by. Indija left notes around the place to highlight the special touches that she provides for guests. Would come back here again for sure.

    Jane2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Indija's place is a wonderful space. Filled with wonderful art and a lovely energy. Highly recommend Redhaus for its location to Castlemain and the surrounding areas. Hope to come back again.

  • This is an old house that functions quite well and is thoughtfully and quirkily decorated. We loved it. If however you are a reality tv real estate obsessive maybe not for you.

    Brian2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • A very artistic and unique rustic house. Creaky floorboards and quirky paintwork add to its charm - this house has its own personality. Very comfortable, well located and great communication from the host.

You’ll love the morning views when you wake up, and in the evening isn’t forget to enjoy a bit of stargazing:) Hosts are super friendly and will accommodate to your needs and schedule, the room was awesome for our needs, located in a separate section of the house which gives you plenty of privacy. You’ll have a separate entrance to your area and the place was sparkling clean. 10/10 would recommend!!!

  • We would recommend anyone who wants a place near Bendigo, but not in town itself, to stay with Valerie and Danny. It is very comfortable and has all the amenities you could want. Valerie's soda bread which she kindly makes is great too.

  • Great little space to stay, close to town. We came to Castlemaine to see some live music at the Theatre Royal and stayed the night at Peter’s cottage. Perfect.

    Mel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality. Peter waited for us to arrive and we also have a visit of the garden which was amazing. Nice fruit loaf and a good selection of tea. Nice and clean room.

    Diana2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Charming little studio in a nice quiet spot in Castlemaine. Peter is very knowledgeable regarding the local area and is well prepared to offer suggestions for anything you might need during your stay. We had an unfortunate mishap out at Hanging Rock (a broken ankle needing ambulance directly down to Melbourne) and couldn’t return to pack our things and collect our car. Peter was able to take care of this for us, it was a great relief knowing our belongings were safe. He was not at all bothered about the inconvenience to him, but was most concerned that we were ok. Thank you again Peter, for all your help, it was greatly appreciated.

    Alison2020-01-27T00:00:00Z

  • Robyn's place is just right for a couple of nights out of town. Quite enough to know your away, and close enough to Castlemain to be able to do stuff during the day. Nicely set up for couples in a bush setting, and much better than a 'shack'.

    Rob2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The love shack is an outstanding place with beautiful sceneries and skies. The house is surrounded by trees, kangaroos and many other animals. Inside the atmosphere is warm and welcoming we highly recommend it.

So peaceful - if you want parties avoid. Peace, quiet, solitude, clean air, downtime and no wifi. Plus great foodie and wineries near by to ensure the complete weekend.

  • This is a great space for large groups to spread out or to be together around a giant dining table and fabulous kitchen island. There are other outdoor dining settings, an outside grill (bbq) and a pizza oven that makes amazing pizzas. There are upstairs a and downstairs tv/living spaces to allow for different configurations. There is an abundance of cooling available for hot summer days. Kids (big and small)will enjoy the games room and the pool. There are other houses nearby but there’s no sense of them being too close once you are on the property. You only see open vistas. There is an excellent general store in Harcourt where you can get great coffee if you tire of making it at home. The hosts are accommodating and friendly but totally respect your privacy. We had our family Christmas get together and can’t fault the place. We loved it.

An historic free-standing building on our 12 acre property "Claremont" (c.1857), the Garden Cottage has been fully renovated to offer a unique place to stay in beautiful, peaceful and historic surroundings. The accommodation is totally private, with a queen bed, en suite bathroom and basic food preparation facilities (fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle). It has a split system for heating and cooling. The Garden Cottage is approx. 3.4 km to the heart of Castlemaine township, and is only a short walk to the lovely Botanical Gardens.
With an old world atmosphere, quiet and private, the cottage is about 15 metres from the Claremont homestead itself in acres of lawn, garden and bush.
On the edge of Castlemaine town, next to the botanic gardens, set in history, surrounded by bush, what more could you ask for?
  • The pictures don't do this cute and quaint little place justice. It's small but was perfect for our overnight stay. I sat outside in the late afternoon to read a book and look over the bushland. We turned on the gas heater at night and it cast a romantic glow across the room. Highly recommended.

Strangways is a little secret country area situated between Daylesford and Castlemaine. The bungalow is on our 20 acre farm. We are pet friendly (Small, well behaved doggies, on approval, as we have horses sheep and chooks). We are close to many fascinating adventures. Doggies are allowed inside. Please never allow pets to chase or frighten any farm animals.
The bungalow is two stories with a spiral staircase, so guests need to be able to manouevre those.
Our nearest little town is Newstead. It has an IGA, a pub, a lovely little restaurant called 'Dig', which is mainly a weekend place, and a general store.
  • We had such a wonderful time at Gilly and Terry’s place. The bungalow has so much character, and the farm is so peaceful. They also provided so many local tips which made our stay so special. We can’t wait to come back again.

  • We loved our stay at Gilly and Terry’s such a shame it was only for one night. Clean, comfortable, peaceful accommodation with great hosts. We look forward to returning again soon to watch another beautiful sunset from the balcony. Thank you :)

  • Peaceful relaxing getaway with generous hosts.

  • Gilly and Terry are the most incredible hosts you could ever hope to meet. They knew we were celebrating a birthday and had a banner waiting for us in the bungalow along with some fresh eggs and food in the fridge. Their friendliness, kindness and warmth made the stay so incredible, even accomodating our old dog who can be a handful at times. I would recommend this beautiful spot to absolutely anybody without hesitation. The property is beautiful, and the animals everywhere are so special. Thanks Gilly and Terry!

  • Lovely place. Very rustic. We were sorry we couldn't stay another night. Great host. True Farm stay experience in a gorgeous part of Victoria.

    Brendan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Gillian's farm stay is exactly what a farm stay should be. Great scenic walks with farm animals, a country view on the balcony, and fresh food to enjoy. Our dog Murphy had his first night with us at an air bnb and he was safe and secure the whole time.

  • Vera is a fabulous host - considerate, friendly and really makes you feel at home. The cottage is beautiful, filled with lovely artwork, heaps of character and one of the most comfortable couches I have ever sat on! It has everything you want: very clean, comfortable bed, lovely shower plus a nice breakfast and a superstar host in Vera. Highly recommend this spot, especially if you like to share a story or two with your host. Thanks so much Vera, we had a lovely time!

Very comfy bed and ceiling fan to lull you to sleep during the hot nights. What a shame I only stayed 2 days. I can highly recommend this place.

  • We spent a weekend sharing Vera's delightful cottage and found it one of our best Air bnb experiences. The warm welcome and outstanding hospitality made for a perfect stay. A delicious breakfast is nicely served and Vera provided lots of information on local events, drives and places to see. We enjoyed it all, the location was great for the Harcourt AppleFest, only a short walk away from the cottage. Thank you Vera.

  • Clare was very friendly and the gardens were beautiful and it was a good location, walking distance from a fantastic pub, brewery and bakery. The room was very cosy and the only thing was that the night lights ruined the atmosphere a little bit but that was ok.

  • Daniel and Glenny have put a lot of love into their beautiful Red Brick Barn which makes it a very special place to stay and somewhere I look forward to returning to.

    Mark2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Red Brick Barn was absolutely perfect. The barn itself is one of a kind and has been presented beautifully. Our stay was incredibly relaxing with the use of the outdoor bath, comfortable bed and a private unique outdoor area that looks out over farmland and Bush. We can’t recommend this air bnb enough!

    Amelia2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we pulled in to the driveway of the red brick barn we were enchanted by the beauty of the place, the tranquility of the location and once inside blown away by how thoughtfully and beautifully styled the house was. It was as if we'd been transported to the French country-side or the pages of a vogue-living magazine! We loved the spacious, light-filled upstairs bedroom and bathroom and have never slept so well- what a comfy bed!! Of course we utilised the outdoor bath and shower which are privately nestled between the olive trees and overlooking the property's back paddocks (home to two friendly Donkey's, some sheep and a handful of ducks.) Hands down the most beautiful and relaxing accomodation we've ever stayed in. Thank you Daniel and Glenny for creating such a stunning space and allowing it to feel like our home for a weekend. We will definitely be recommending it to all our friends and family and have already planned our return!

    Dale2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning secluded and relaxing ‘France meets Australia’ retreat. A sheer delight to shower outdoors under the stars or sip champagne while sitting in the bath outside in the morning (indoor bathrooms too). Daniel & Glenny have thought of everything - from the layout, to the design, to the amenities and thoughtful touches, to the large relaxed spaces. Super quiet space - except for the delightful chorus of frogs each night. Nirvana!

    Peter2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible place! The property has been impeccably put together and run. Every detail has been thought of with nothing amiss. It was such a comfortable stay and ultra relaxing. The framed view from the couches to the manicured gardens, and green acreage, was beautiful to sit and look at all day long. Luxury touches like French linens and bath products made the extra special. The outdoor bath was a delightful touch and definitely something to do whilst you are there. We had plans to venture out into local areas but the house so beautiful we ended up staying in the whole time! By far one of the best AirBnB homes we have experienced over the many years and countries and we’ve been to. A very very special place.
