A cosy little cottage ideally suited to accommodate two couples situated in a picture postcard village where history and nature are right outside your door.
A Scottish cottage in a beautiful historic village. Built 1700 this two bedroom cottage has many modern conveniences, it is warm and snug with a wood burning stove plus oil fired central heating. The kitchen has all modern conveniences, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, fan oven, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer etc. Both bedrooms have kingsize double beds. One bedroom is en-suite. There is a workshop / garage attached for bikes and stuff, parking for one car is directly outside. The cottage can be reached by bus from Dumfries where there is a railway station. A new cell phone mast has brought mobile telephone reception to the village! (Summer 2018) It's really close to great beaches and coast plus hills and walking country. The house has a pub less than 30 metres away and a shop too. There are 2 of the wolrd famous 7Stanes mountain bike courses at Dalbeattie and Mabie plus a third one at Ae only another few miles further. The village of New Abbey is home to the 13th Century Sweetheart Abbey, and the water powered corn mill. There is a beautiful walled garden at Shambellie and an award winning tea room. All of these attractions are a vey short walk from the cottage. The house is great for nature lovers and those who want a break in rural Scotland. Guests will have access and exclusive use of the whole house I always try to speak to my guests on arrival and like to answer any questions and give advice for things to see and do. We will not be around during your stay but usually contactable by phone. New Abbey is just a really great little village with everything you need close at hand. It has it's own pub, tea room and shop so you could park the car and never bother driving all week A good local bus service connects New Abbey to Dumfries and from there long distance coach and rail connections for onward travel
It's a picture postcard village, a tearoom, general stores and pub complete the picture
  • Stephen’s cottage is beautiful and very comfortable. New Abbey is a great place to base yourselves for exploring the Dumfries area. The communication from Stephen was excellent and I would highly recommend a stay in his lovey house.

  • The cottage is lovely, we spent 2 nights and have nothing negative to say. It was spotlessly clean, had a very homely feel to it and a very well equipped place. The information provided beforehand was very detailed. The cafe in New Abbey served great food and recomend the beach at RSPB Mereshead only a short drive away which is a great place to take a dog. All in all a great stay

  • Stephen’s place is peaceful and comfortable. The house is interestingly furnished and the beds make for a great nights rest. The shower is hot and a good strength. Stephen was a great host who replied promptly to any queries sent his way. The village of New Abbey is sweet and quiet. The tea room is lovely and the Sweetheart Abbey ruins very interesting. Many walks and cycling routes in the area. Beware the pub stopped doing food before October.

  • First of all it should be said that the host could not have been more helpful and is a person who goes out of their way to help. The cottage is ideally situated in New Abbey with lots of interesting places to visit close by. It has a lot of charm but at at the same time has all modern cons. The wifi is strong throughout the house, the heating keeps the place comfortable, good shower etc. In fact everything you would expect in your own home. I will no doubt be returning to this delightful cottage.

    Martin2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Port House is a top spot whether you are a couple or a family. Stephen's home caters for all and New Abbey is the perfect stepping stone to the many beautiful attractions Dumfries and Galloway has to offer. We will be returning... Perhaps a cosy winter break! Highly recommended.

  • A quirky old cottage in a charming village - I imagine it feeling very cosy in the autumn :) Super location for mountain bikers and those interested in mid-length walks in nature. Some great classy but casual places to eat out within a short drive.

  • Thank you Jim and Caroline, we loved staying at your cottage, it was cosy, beds were super comfy and it had everything we needed! We would love to come back in the summer for more mountain biking and exploring around Dumfries and would definitely book your cottage again!

    Emma2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic, comfortable and cosy cottage in a fabulous location with stunning views. The property was well appointed and had everything needed for a short or long stay. Jim and Caroline were great hosts and communication was speedy and thorough throughout. The shortbread, milk and other goodies left for our arrival were a lovely touch . The cottage was in a great location for exploring Dumfries and the surrounding area with Caerlaverock Castle and nature reserve just 10 mins drive away- both well worth a visit. The local Boathouse cafe/restaurant was lovely and a stone's throw from the cottage. All in all - a fantastic stay in a lovely cottage in beautiful surrounds.

    Leigh2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a wonderful place to stay if visiting the Dumfries area. We travelled from Canada to visit family who live in the area during Christmas. Caroline and Jim were fabulous hosts. Upon arrival, there was a tree up and Xmas decorations, so we didn’t have to do a thing. The cottage is very stylish and they have thought of everything. The views in the morning were beautiful. It is a calming area, but with quick access to dumfries. A beautiful restaurant, the both use, is right at your door step. This was a phenomenal air bnb 10/10! Highly recommended.

    Richard2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this amazing cottage for a long weekend in Dumfries and could not have been happier. The location and views from the cottage (especially at Sunset) were absolutely amazing. The cottage is beautifully furnished and equipped above and beyond what we expected. Jim and Caroline added some nice touches for our arrival, fresh flowers and the most amazing shortbread. The village is quite small, but the Nith Hotel offered great food and decent beer and we also had a nice breakfast at the Boathouse - so we were more than catered for. Communication all the way through was faultless and we will definitely be back. Great to meet you, Jim and thanks for a great weekend.

    Toby2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic little cottage and if you are looking for something in the Dumfries area I suspect you will struggle to find much better. Recently renovated the cottage is stylishly decorated and lacks for nothing. Lovely toiletries are provided, fresh flowers were on the table and a bottle of wine and homemade shortbread awaited us. The house felt spacious and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Jim and Caroline were fantastic hosts and I really couldn't fault our visit.

    Kathleen2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, well equipped house in a beautiful location, we had everything we needed for a great stay, particularly appreciated the recommendations we got and all the little touches. The décor was fab, the beds were incredibly comfortable, we ate outside when the weather allowed and it was peaceful and relaxing. Great on the basics and pushed over the edge with the little things. Definitely worth a trip, will be recommending to our friends and family!

    Lynsey2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place. Clean, comfortable and quiet, and a great location. Jim and Caroline were excellent hosts. We would be happy to stay there again whenever we are in the area.

    Keith2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you are planning a trip in the Dumfries area do not skip the opportunity to stay at Glensone. Upon entering the front door you will be struck by the stylish/modern decor, and the tranquil modern theme which flows throughout the home. The kitchen is beautifully equipped with all the conveniences you would expect and much more. Delicious homemade shortbread as well bread were provided, as well as other bits and bobs in the refrigerator. The lounge area with its two seater and three seater leather sofas were incredibly comfortable. Perfect for watching the television or marvelling the window view. The bedrooms are lovely and well appointed. The attention to detail does not stop in either bathroom. Each beautifully decorated and equipped with body wash, shampoos and conditioners. The walk in shower is heaven! Both Jim and Caroline were very quick to respond to questions before and during our stay. Very kind and courtesy couple. Prior to arriving I contacted them with a question about our upcoming stay. I let them know we were both looking forward to visiting Glensone and in passing mentioned we would be celebrating our first wedding anniversary while there. Upon our arrival there was a bottle of Prosecco and lovely card wishing us a happy anniversary. These are the little touches which made our stay fabulous, and why we cannot wait to return. That and the sunset....breathtaking! Stephanie & Sharon

  • Had a lovely stay. The cottage was warm, clean and comfortable. We were a family of five, grandparents, parents and grandson. There was plenty of space to spread ourselves and also be together. The kitchen/dining area is really big, light and airy with a view of the fields and so many birds. No near neighbours and so quiet.

    Susan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great size house. Loads of room to wind down and relax. Big kitchen, great facilities and good sized rooms. Set in a lovely position with great views.

  • Beautiful house! Jamie couldn't have been more helpful on the run up to our booking. We stayed over Christmas, the house was decorated with a couple of trees and some tinsel on arrival. The thoughtful gesture really made the trip for us. We’re already thinking about heading back in summer for a week!

    Becky2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a lovely location, great amenities and local places to visit. Great for less mobile family members and the rest of the family. One of our best yet.

  • This property is in a fabulous location for viewing the river Nith and the fields beyond. There is a very well equipped kitchen and utility room. The living room is spacious and a perfect place for relaxing. In better weather, we would have used the well furnished decking area more. The place felt like a home from home. We loved it!

The view of the river Nith is truly unique and only adds to the enjoyment of staying in this beautiful house. Our host David was very friendly and easy to communicate with prior to and during our stay. Overall it was a fantastic experience and one which we would love to repeat. Thank you.

  • We had an amazing weekend stay, the cottage was beautiful and so modern! Such a comfortable stay and could’ve stayed in all day. The view was lovely and such nice touches throughout the cottage. The location was perfect with restaurants near by and the supermarket was only a 10 minute drive away. Would definitely recommend it and will hopefully be back for another stay. Thank you to David and Kathleen for making us feel so welcome!

    Rachel2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing property that has been finished and maintained to an extremely high standard. Such high attention to detail to make this the nicest home from home. I could have sat all day and looked out the window at the stunning views.

    Anna2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This house is amazing! It feels like you're in a 5 star hotel - so luxurious and comfortable with loads of extra touches like toiletries and prosecco. It is really spacious and the cleanest house we've ever stayed in. The children couldn't believe that not only was there a TV in every bedroom, but they all had Netflix! What a treat! On top of all this is the superb location with a view you would never get bored of and which you can enjoy for hours on end from both inside and out. David and Kathleen are wonderfully welcoming hosts and although this was only a short visit we'll definitely be back for longer!

  • Aberdour Guest House is great! Beautiful building with many historic features, Previously a Girls school Amanda is a really friendly and wonderfully hospitable host. Her dog is a real cutie. Great room, with everything we needed. It was nice to spend time with the other guests, and we were pleased to find a bar. We ordered some lovely food from a Italian place called Princess. We had it delivered, (very low cost) and used the dining room. We would love to come again

    Alice2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the best hotel in Dumfries. The room was clean, spacious and the best, just walking for about 5 minutes on foot near the central. The breakfast Amanda made was very delicious. And the friendly dog blue was so cute and healed. I will always return. Cost performance is the best. I strongly recommend it.

  • A friendly and comfortable place in a great location with excellent parking and we had a warm welcome. Breakfast menu was extensive and the coffee was superb. Wonderful value

    Margaret2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very good stay at Amanda's guest house. Real good value for money. We felt welcome and nothing was a problem. There is a lovely dog living at the property prepared lovely welcoming for us on our arrival. The room we were given was spacious with a big window and superbly clean where the cleaner could reach (top of wardrobe and section above bathroom were a bit dusty though). Double bed is standard british double bed (would qualify as a small double bed if you are coming from mainland Europe) and the matress was good. The area of the guest house is quiet, yet only about 5 minutes walk from the centre. Amanda can also give you a tip on a wellness place near the guest house. The best part of our stay though was Amanda's amazing breakfast.

This lovely cottage near New Abbey is in a peaceful setting next to a burn. It is situated on a seven acre property with a small loch (with fishing) and two neighbouring cottages. It has one bedroom, one bathroom, a sitting room with a wood-stove and a kitchen / diner opening onto a patio. Well situated – 2 miles from the picturesque village of New Abbey, 8 miles from Dumfries and 3 miles from the renowned Loch Arthur Farm Shop. Easy access to walking, mountain biking trails and fishing.
  • A wonderful little cottage in an idyllic setting. Spotlessly clean when we arrived, very well equipped and Barry had even left a small welcome pack for us from the local Loch Arthur Farm Shop which is well worth a visit. Good central heating, an abundance of hot water and a wood stove which was nice on a chilly evening. All in all a 10/10 property.

    Robert2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay. The cottage kitchen is probably the best equipped we have ever stayed in. It is in a lovely, peaceful location too, NOTE there is no mobile signal but that is fine if you want to escape, the wifi is great but you can keep that a secret. Barry was a great host, we really enjoyed meeting and chatting with him.

Just a 10 minute walk takes you into Dumfries town centre with an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants. • We stayed at Christine’s for one night and found the place to be spotless, she’d left us everything we needed (towels bedding, tea etc.) couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay!

  • Flat very clean and tidy and everything in working order. Great location close to town and amenities. Christine was very helpful and a great host.

  • Our family of three spent a night in this lovely little flat. It is nicely decorated with a gorgeous bedroom! The bed, sofa bed, duvets and pillows were so comfy, and the electric fireplaces made for an extra cozy space. Lots of room, clean, and in a good location with free parking. Christine was a friendly and excellent host, popping round with an extra sheet when we messaged her at night. We really appreciated her thoughtfulness. We’d definitely recommend this flat for anyone visiting Dumfries and would certainly stay here again!

    David2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely! The photos do not do the cottage justice: the picture window and view is incredible, and it is great to have the picnic bench outside. Walking distance to the local pub, and lots of birds to watch.

    Liz2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely lovely place to stay - relaxing and quiet yet close enough to the attractions in and around the area. We enjoyed being able to eat outside and the inside was spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. A great find and a wee gem of a house.

    Tracy2019-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • I have just spent a few days in this lovely place with friends. We had a good stay, we were warm and comfortable and the view was superb. The area is beautiful with lots of places to visit and countryside and coastline to enjoy. Highly recommended.

    Linda2018-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely spacious house, with a homely feel. The views are amazing, and there is plenty to do and see within easy striking distance.

    Tim2018-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing location! Incredible views from the front of the house. It is in a very peaceful small community and deserves the respect due for such an area. The property is a very good size and was lovely and warm- we stayed during a fairly cold spell in March. Jamie communicates clearly and is very helpful. This property is especially suitable for bird-watchers and cyclists due to its location- but caters very well for most others too, including families, however it is probably not very suitable for those with mobility difficulties. It would be best to check with Jamie before booking if you think that this may be an issue. We had a lovely stay (three adults) and would be very happy to book here again.

    James2018-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a month in Jamie's cottage while watching the fantastic bird life along the Nith River out front and exploring the Dumfrisshire area for ancestor history. The cottage was roomy and modern inside but historic on the outside. It was so quiet that we were excited sometimes to hear a car drive by. It was well equipped for our needs and Jamie was very responsive to our requests. We were very pleased with our entire experience.

  • Arriving at the flat on a really cold, wet day it was so good to find the flat was warm and welcoming. There was a lot of nice touches like scented sticks. They've really tried to match the expensive hotels. It was great value, private, clean and stylish. All the things that make me use air bnb instead of hotels.

    Paul2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely flat, it’s all done out beautifully. We especially loved the cosy rugs, beautiful smellies and amazingly comfy bed. And the Netflix access was perfect for chilling out! The only thing we missed was a cafetière, for proper coffee.

    Dawn2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Mark and Bryony ! We were the first ever guests and were very pleased with the quality of the apartment, which is just as on the pictures, and with Mark’s reactivity and efforts to willingly address any arising needs. The flat is quite new and well, so very pleasant and cozy! Only one minute away from the inner center of town right next to great restaurants and cafés, we loved it! Book longer and you might even get a wine bottle upon arrival :-)

Easy to enter the sparkling clean ground-floor flat, which has a comfy sitting room with TV, a modern kitchen with milk, cereal, bread, and eggs, also tea and coffee provided — much appreciated. Good mattress and the whole place is toasty warm. We highly recommend it, especially for long-stay visitors wanting a base for exploring Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders.

Having beautiful toast and butter ( all left for us) in this great little riverside apartment is one of the things we really enjoy each time we stay! There are also complimentary toiletries not found in every Airbnb. Wonderful!

We were provided with lots of useful information on things to do nearby which was really helpful. Communication with Suzanne was always timely and friendly, she even sent us a message to let us know we could stay longer on the day we left which meant we didn't have to rush off in the morning. The whole place was completely clean and the beds were very comfy. Finding the cream cake in the fridge when we arrived was a fantastic surprise and it was delicious! • A lovely cosy, stylish flat with all that you'd need for a great stay! Beautifully clean and tidy, the heating was already on for our arrival! The whole flat was even better in real life than on the photos with generously sized rooms and lots of lovely little touches. A very quiet and peaceful location in a quaint street. Conveniently positioned just 5 mins walk to Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets which was a bonus on arriving mid-evening for buying food supplies! Andrew was quick to respond to our booking request and gave lots of helpful details in advance which was really appreciated! His Mum, Anne, was on hand by phone to answer any questions if needed. Self-check-in was very easy and efficient. Would definitely recommend Andrew's flat if you're looking to stay in Dumfries.

  • The other reviews are right on. The place is sparkling clean, and Tony is unfailingly responsive. The thing that surprised us the most was Dumfries itself. What a welcoming community, and the surrounding countryside (and castles and ruins and history) are gorgeous. This is Scotland at its best. More tourists should come explore this rich and lush and welcoming part of the country. I should add that we hired Solway Tours to show us around the area. Highly recommended. We won’t ever forget Dumfries!

  • A lovely, well presented cottage off the beaten track but with easy access to the "delights" of Dumfries 15 minutes drive away. The kitchen has all the utensils expected, and more. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. (Even sharp knives). Washer, tumble dryer and dishwasher for the chores and even a breadmaker for fresh bread with your breakfast bacon! For those who need to be in touch 24/7, the mobile signal on the two networks we use is non existent, but the WiFi is fast and consistent. There is a downstairs (double) bedroom with main bathroom adjacent. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms, one en-suite with a large and powerful shower. Both upstairs bedrooms have enormous views over the Solway and farmland.

A great location for checking out Dumfries & surrounding areas, even though it is 15minutes south of Dumfries this was not a problem as coming home to a beautiful location & waking up to such peace & quiet surroundings under crisp quality linen was a real luxury ( beds very comfy ). Thanks Jamie

A delightfully situated detached cottage within the national senic area which is fitted out to a very high standard. It stands in its own secluded and private well stocked gardens. It faces south and has a delightful patio area within walled area of garden.  The cottage, which is near Caerlaverock Castle, adjoins the famous Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve and is only 1/4 mile from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The county town of Dumfries is a short drive away .
  • Jamie’s place has a spacious, modern lounge and a well- equipped, open plan kitchen/diner, seating eight. It was ideal for our family Christmas break.

  • I stayed at Karens new Airbnb above the Troqueer arms which is also convenient to town. Having stayed in the other Airbnb a few times she asked if I wanted to try this one out. Really spacious flat with a homely feel. Well presented and recently decorated. I would recommend staying here if you're in Dumfries. Great atmosphere in the pub below. Watched a comedy gig and all the staff and patrons were friendly.

We live in a big, beautiful Victorian sandstone house, with lots of space, light and interesting features. Your room is comfy and cosy with a kettle and tea & coffee. We can provide dairy free milk if you prefer. Our house isn't spotless; it wouldn't be our home if it was! But it's clean and homely and we love it. We hope you'll enjoy your stay with us, you're very welcome! Note to vegans: we use feather duvets but can substitute man made fibre ones if you'd prefer, no trouble, just say the word!
We're in a lovely, quiet part of Dumfries, on a wide road with large houses and plenty of space.
