  • We had a fantastic stay in this home. The view from the front window is absolutely stunning and made our holiday, sun rise was fantastic!! Really easy check in and great amount of space for us all. Really quiet area and lovely neighbourhood. The kids loved the chickens next door! We will be back to stay again.

  • Great house and location. We were three friends staying and we enjoyed this place a lot! Mandy is a perfect example of a remote but thoughtful host. She has sent us all the instructions beforhand, so we didn't have to worry about check-in. She has also provided information about the area, that was a really nice touch. The house is very cozy, well equipped and the neighbour Julia is very helpful. Thank you!

The flat is situated in the rural crofting settlement of Big Sand around 4.5 miles from the village of Gairloch. The flat is a basement flat and is part of our 3 storey family home. It has just been completely refurbished and now has a fully equiped modern kitchen, kingsized bedroom, shower room and spacious living room with an eating area. The flat can be accessed through the owners main door, however guests have the whole lower floor to themselves. Please note there is no view from the flat.
Our house is a family home with young children, who although are well behaved do come with a bit of noise! We also have 2 gorgeous Jack Russells called Poppy andBaxter, and a cat called Tabby who have been known to wander into the flat if the door is left open. Please be reminded that these pets are our family when staying. The house is also undergoing renovation on the top floor however we will advise guests if we think it will affect their stay.
Big Sand is a small crofting community outside the village of Gairloch. The views are simply stunning, with the Majestic Torridon and the Isle of Skye visible most days. On a very clear day you can see all the way to the Western Isles. Big Sand campsite is a 10 min walk away and is open from March to October. Here you will find a well equiped shop, gift shop, cafe and of course the beach. Gairloch itself has 2 supermarkets, numerous cafes and restaurants, Chinese Takeaway and a great fish and chip shop.

  • We have enjoyed a great stay at Lorna’s. The location is perfect for exploring the Highlands and we loved that it was so close to the beach! Lorna is a great host- throughout our stay she made lots of effort to talk to us and help us with our plans and was very welcoming. The accommodation was clean and cozy (perfect for autumn Highland evenings)- and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in!! We would definitely recommend staying here!

It is located near a beautiful beach; the surroundings are quiet and peaceful. Lorna is very kind and helpful, she took the time to show us around and chat a little. We also loved the family's pets -Baxter is such a sweetheart :) Anyway, can't recommend Lorna's place enough; we'll be really pleased to come back next time we visit Scotland!!

In Gairloch there are plenty of places to eat including pubs restaurants and coffee shops. Within easy reach are the spectacular beaches at Redpoint, Opinan, Big Sand, Mellon Udridgle and Cove. Venturing further afield there are the spectacular and scenic drives to Applecross, Shieldaig, Torridon, Plockton and perhaps over to the Isle of Skye.
  • A peaceful haven with stunning views, we watched seals play in the water whilst we sat having breakfast. The standard and quality of the cottage is high. Our dog was made welcome and it was easy to let her out and plenty of walks around the area.

  • 'We had a lovely and amazing time staying here. The bay is really good for kayaks and we had loads of fun on our one here. The dry island shellfish safari was epic, seeing all of the sea creatures'. Written by our 10 year old! To add to that, the accommodation has been thoughtfully equipped, the view of the bay is beautiful. We saw seals, red deer and jellyfish on some of our excursions. We loved the local pub. The cafe at Gairloch has delicious food. The beaches are fabulous and so quiet you feel as if you have it all to yourself. Would definitely recommend!

Welcome to "SandyBits" our gorgeously modern home with views across the Gairloch Peninsula. We designed and built Sandybits with a nod to the traditional West Coast cottages of Scotland. Inside it is a haven of calm and modern luxury. Underfloor heating and a real wood stove add to the ambiance. This is our second home and we welcome you to enjoy the wide open spaces and incredible surrounding that Gairloch offers. Kick back and relax this is a place to leave your worries behind.
Gairloch is a walkers paradise. Get active on the many surrounding hills and trails or just kick back with a gentle seaside stroll. There are some great restaurants in the village with fresh fish served daily. Some excellent coffee available and places to buy groceries as well as places to check out the local history. A bird watchers paradise - Eagles have been spotted from the house! The Steading - small cafe in an old barn. Lovely homemade soup and paninis. Cakes great too and a wood stove. The Sheiling - pub with great food and hearty portions. Good spot to sit outside in summer. Badachro inn - worth the drive for a really fun pub on the waters edge with good pub grub. Myrtle Bank Hotel - large portions! Good sea views.
  • A beautifully fitted out and comfortable house which ticked all our boxes. It was cosy, our visit was in early March, and very comfortable. Thank you Karen.

  • Just returned from a few days in Gairloch, arriving at the same time as Storm Ciara. Luckily Sandybits is a great place to stay, super clean, comfortable and stylish. We had an amazing few days exploring along the coast, but the big windows at Karen’s place were perfect for weather watching by the fire on the days when it was really wild. Sandybits is the perfect base to come back to and watch a sunset!

It is situated in an ideal location for exploring the area and was sparkling clean. We received a warm welcome from Dorothy as well as a roaring fire in the wood burner which made for a warm and cosy evening. Would definitely recommend.

  • Excellent Bothy. Very cosy with the fire on

    Carol2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay in a cosy, clean and warm little cottage. Dorothy was pleasant and happy and available if needed. Everything that is needed was made available and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little cottage B&B for a lovely quiet stay.

    Ruth2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the Bothy and you will too. A very tasteful conversion with everything you need for your stay. Highland hospitality at its best and brilliantly situated in a postcard pretty village. An ideal base for touring this amazing part of the world. Stoer lighthouse is a must see, a lovely drive up to the Cove to the war memorial and chance meeting with a large heard of Highland cows. In Poolewe itself the village shop is well stocked and the pub does great food. Gairloch is close by and a lovely trip. Enjoy...we did!!

    Bev2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place as advertised and the wood stove going when we arrived was a welcoming touch! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Anna-Marie2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This accommodation was a lovely surprise, even though I had of course studied the description and photos. The building is cleverly restored. You can tell that was done a while ago, since some fixtures and fittings could use a bit of tlc, but that won't affect your stay much. What this accommodation has in abundance is coziness. When we arrived, the fire was burning and we felt so welcome and instantly, soothingly comfortable after a wet (but beautiful) day. We made ourselves a cup of tea, settled in the two chairs by the fire and felt very content. We very much appreciated the separate beds, close enough to feel together but nice to not feel everything the other person does. It's very quiet, and nice and dark at night. The kitchen has enough amenities to prepare your meals. Parking is right in front of the property. Its situation a bit off the road gives a nice secluded feel. One of those places you wish you had arrived earlier to be able to enjoy it a bit longer.

This is a beautiful residential caravan that has been clad with larch to give it a cabin effect and cool feel. This comes with all bed linen & towels. Fully functional kitchen with gas cooker. It also has a large decking area with outside seating area with amazing views of the Isle of Skye.
This Caravan is situated on a croft at the highest part of Gairloch giving stunning views. Very private location with only one neighbour this also a holiday rental called Bothan Buie.
The Caravan is very close to the village an easy walk down to the pub and a harder one home as is up hill all the way for 1 mile.
  • A fabulous find with amazing views out to the isle of sky. The caravan was immaculately clean with plenty of clean towels. It was late when we arrived and the lights and heating was put on for us, so a lovely thought. We were able to take our small do too and it was perfect for exploring the area. Great gas cooker and full size fridge freezer but little cooking utensils but we managed fine.

    Nicky2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy accommodation in a beautiful spot, with everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely stay again if back in the area. Didn't meet lour hosts but very helpful over the phone.

  • Perfect place to stay everything we needed was there ,and if your on the route 500 it’s perfect

    Simon2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Kirsty’s caravan for two nights in early January. We were looking for good value, comfortable accommodation for one of our regular trips to the area, and the caravan was perfect for our needs. It was clean, cosy and warm, and kitted out with everything we needed. The caravan is sited in a lovely, private location with views over Loch Gairloch, and it’s just a short walk from shops and a good pub.

  • What an amazing spot absolutely stunning the sunsets you'll get will be spectacular you can walk down to the village pub, cafe, it's windy but spot more than makes up for it I can't think of a better place in gairloch looking right over to the sea Kirsty and Scott were lovely and left us lots of goodies bread milk etc to many to list and we really appreciated it

    Paula2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy wee caravan with fantastic views and kirsty was a fantastic host.

    Andrew2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty's caravan is set in a wonderful location over looking Gairloch and the hills surrounding. Ten minutes walk down hill is 'down town' Gairloch with a great little coffee shop and bookshop, local corner shop and grocers just a little bit up the road. We had a fabulous few days here exploring the beaches and hills nearby with our kids. A great escape from our busy city lives! No hesitation whatsoever in recommending. A great spot to unwind and relax.

    Rachel2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location is good, the views are amazing. An ideal place to chill out for a day or so, not exactly luxury but it has everything you would need. Would recommend it and the hotel at the bottom of the road does very nice food.

  • We enjoyed a lovely stay here. The house is smart, well equipped and has the atmosphere of a much-loved holiday home. A beautiful native garden with good views to the water. The surrounding area is gorgeous. Would happily stay again.

    Dylan2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ann's place was very clean and quiet in a beautiful area. Scenery was breathtaking! Lots of games, books and even had table tennis in the garage. Weather was fantastic, so it was a great base.

    Andrew2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our holiday started on the trip up north as the scenery is stunning. The closer we got to the cottage, the better the scenery. Access to the cottage was simple as described and we were greeted with a view that helped make our stay all the better. This was enhanced two nights in a row with a magnificent stag a short distance from the lounge window and a buzzard surfing the thermals another evening. The location was nice and private and a short drive from local amenities. The cottage was clean, warm and very comfortable. Ann was the perfect host and was quick to respond to us. There were so many great walks around there for us and our dogs, so much so I need a return visit. I would not hesitate a return to Ann’s cottage. I’d recommend stopping for coffee and churros at the little trailer in Poolewe on route to Ullapool for a visit to the seafood shack!!

    Robert2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Location and quality of the house is brilliant. All what you can expect from a perfect stay you get it in Ann's house. Five star accomodation. Highly recommend!

  • Wonderful location - I hope we will be back some time soon! The region is a paradise for hiking and there are some very lovely beaches close by. The house is really nice and cozy, tastefully and practically furnished and large enough for rainy days ... (we were there with 5 people). Communication with Ann was friendly, quick and helpful. 6 out of 5 stars, we loved it!

The hut is located next to the Old Store in the small hamlet of Badachro. The property is only 40 metres from the sea front and is surrounded by incredible scenery. The hut has a very comfortable double bed, private entrance, parking space and access to its own private bathroom located next to the hut in the main house. The hut has heating and facilities for making tea and coffee.
The hut is next to the Old Village Store which is now my house. The hut has been built locally and where possible materials have been up-cycled - for example; the stained glass and oak windows, and the door mechanism. The entrance is a stable door, there are two steps up into the spacious hut which has a comfortable double bed and a chair. The bathroom is in the main house, entered through the back door only a couple of metres away from the hut, and is for the sole use of guests. There is also a patio area with a bench which looks over the garden. The patio area and the hut are very private, and you have your own car parking space and entrance gate.
Badachro is one of Scotland’s hidden gems, on the North Coast 500. Situated in a stunning bay, opposite the town of Gairloch, the village has a fantastic pub the Badachro Inn which serves lunches and dinners. There are fantastic walks and numerous water sport activities as well as tours on the water and whale watching etc.. There is a local crafts and gift shop, Latitude 57, and local Gin Distillery. There are several world class beaches in the area and the town of Gairloch is a short drive away.
  • We absolutely loved this air BnB. So much lovelier than the pictures do justice. We were worried about the temperature, but the heater kept us perfectly warm.

  • While we were only in town for one night, it was a pleasure to stay at Liza’s Shepherds Hut! A lovely little space in a gorgeous spot, Liza was super friendly and welcoming and gave a great recommendation for Badachro Inn just down the road, which is a lovely pub with friendly service and nice meals. All in all we were very happy here, albeit for a very short while.

  • A lovely wee bolt hole away from the cares of the world. Snug and warm with an excellent bath in the main house after a day’s hiking. Liza was a kind host but not intrusive and let me have the time to myself, for which I was grateful.

    Ilona2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly, I never met Lisa or got to stay in her cottage due to car problems in route. However, she went above and beyond to assist with my last minute cancellation and was very gracious. I look forward to another trip to Skye soon and staying in her cottage.

  • It’s a huge space in a really warm cozy house. Mairi is a lovely host and took care of us very well. We had a little struggle finding the place but I would blame google map. The breakfast is not included in the price but Mairi gave us enough food items to have in the morning which was like the breakfast for us. Highly recommended.

  • Aside from being in the village of Poolewe and not far (~5 miles) from Gairloch, this airbnb has many perks. The room we stayed in was spacious and sparkling clean. The TV, mini-fridge, sitting area, ensuite, and lovely garden view (with koi pond) all added to our pleasure. Superhost Mairi is super friendly and made us feel very welcome during our 2-night stay. Breakfast foods provided were plentiful, and we stretched them to last us for a while. We were sorry to leave!

The house has been recently renovated to keep the original feel of the old croft house but now has added contemporary design and amenities - WiFi, chilled out lounge, dining room, big kitchen to eat and be merry, fabulous garden and 2 big bathrooms. The house faces south so it's light, airy and warm. We are only 100 metres from the coast and the NorthCoast500 - this is a paradise for cyclists, walkers, lovers of nature, climbers, water sports enthusiasts, artists, musicians and photographers....
The house is on two floors - bedrooms, landing, cupboard and bathroom with bath and shower on this floor whilst on the ground floor we have the dining room with seating for 6, lounge with our famous pallet sofa (!), large TV for evenings in, woodburning stove (new top of the range Yotul), big kitchen with space to prepare, cook and serve dinner. The kitchen gives access to the garden which wraps around the property and has a view up the glen....it'sa special place. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, and fridge with small freezer. Also coffee and tea pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc all provided to make your stay as easy and pleasant as possible!
There is so much to do and see in this part of Scotland. There's a great walk directly from the house to Loch Kernseary with spectacular views across to Torridon, Loch Maree and Slioch are a short distance away, Inverewe Gardens are a must, fishing trips and whale watching cruises are to be had from Gairloch Harbour. There are great cafes and restaurants in the area too - Poolewe hotel does simple but good quality food and The Bridge Cafe in the village is excellent for coffee and home bakes (Manu and Ana are from Galicia and give Poolewe a little Iberian charm!).

Traditional house in the centre of the village of Gairloch. The house has many period features but with a modern design in the bedrooms. There are two single beds with egyptian cotton bedlinen. There is a large flat screen tv, fridge, hairdryer, coffee machine, a large en-suite shower room and complimentary toiletries. There are also USB sockets in the room. Breakfast is served in the bedroom overlooking the garden and sea. There is parking in the village car park 15 metres from the house.
We are in the north end of the village called Strath so we are only metres away from a hotel with pub and restaurant, grocery shop, fish and chip shop, an excellent sandwich and cake shop 'Crumbs' and a newsagents.
  • This B & B is just great. Large room, large bathroom. The service is great and everything was spotless. We would definitely book again with Emma Hanz.

  • Emma and her husband a very welcoming, friendly hosts. The room we had was tastefully decorated, super comfy beds, great shower and a lovely sea view. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

  • After a 16 day road trip around Scotland, I have to say that my stay at Emma's just might have been my favourite out of all accommodations! It was easy to find and I had the absolute warmest welcome from Emma who is the most gracious/kindest host! The room was stunning, with lovely personal touches, fresh milk for tea and just about anything else I could have needed! In the morning, Emma brought breakfast into the room so I could sit by the window overlooking the loch to eat it and it also might have been the BEST breakfast I had had during my journey in Scotland! Emma offered some great local advice for my next day of the road trip and the only thing that could have possibly made it better was to stay for more than one evening!!! I will be back! :)

  • Twin room is lovely, newly decorated fresh feel. Great views from bedroom. Breakfast served in room. Emma is a great host, would highly recommend.

    Gail2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Emma was such a super nice and helpful Host. She called almost every Restaurant to reservate a table for our dinner. The room was so lovely and beautiful planed. We fell in Love with the amazing rain shower ;) And the breakfast was the best we had so far. The warm porride with blueberrys was so delicious! Thank you very much! We can only recommend this lovely old school building with Emma as a super Host ❤️

    Jeanine2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The new twin bedded room is stylish and super clean with a coffee machine and fridge. In a great location, we really enjoyed having our breakfast overlooking the loch. Emma was really helpful and, knowing we were vegetarians, booked us a table for dinner at a nearby pub - without her, we would never have got in as it was very popular. Thank you!

Shore Cottage offers beautiful accommodation for families or couples looking for a relaxing break in a spectacular coastal setting - directly beside the sea. The land belonging to the house stretches along an acre of coastline, but the immediate garden is fenced. From the house and garden, otters, porpoise, dolphin, seals and many seabirds are often seen.
Shore Cottage is a newly renovated house, completed in 2016. The well laid out open plan kitchen, dining and sitting rooms provide uninterrupted views of Loch Gairloch. There is an adjoining covered deck that allows you to enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather, and a cosy log-burning stove in the living room for colder days. Downstairs, a TV room allows relaxing evenings for all – no disagreements about what to watch! In addition, there is a comfortable twin bedroom and large shower room downstairs. Upstairs, there are 2 peaceful king size bedrooms with beautiful views over Loch Gairloch, and a large family bathroom.
The land belonging to the house stretches along an acre of coastline, but the immediate garden is fenced. From the house and garden otters, porpoises, dolphins, seals and many seabirds are regularly seen. Shore Cottage is set in both a beautiful and a convenient location. While being within short walking distance of sandy beaches, boat trips, shops, galleries, a golf course, pubs and cafés, it is also in a peaceful secluded area – the perfect spot for relaxing.
  • This is a beautiful house in an absolutely breath taking part of Scotland and Andrew was an excellent host. Nothing beats waking up to those views, even in the middle of winter. The house was perfect for a cosy winter break, the facilities were excellent and Gairloch has plenty of amenities. Highly recommend and would happily stay again

    Elizabeth2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house of Andrew and Linsey is located in a scenery of outstanding beauty with amazing views to the sea just a stone's through away and Harris & Lewis in the far distance. The house is thoughtfully laid out with a superb design tucked into an amazing garden with beautiful colors even in autumn. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Andrew's communication has always been spot on and so beneficial. And not to forget in an amazing real time! We loved to stay longer than just 8 nights and definitely wish to come back. Take care Gerhard

    Gerhard2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home with everything you need. Stunning location with amazing views. Andrew keeps in touch throughout the booking process. I’d definitely go again

    Catherine2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • We should have stayed longer! Shore cottage is located in an outstanding place. We enjoyed the wood burning oven, a lot of space, best beds (slept so well!) and these stunning views from the living room of the sea. And we loved all those beautiful walks and hikes in this fantastic area (a lot of things to do and to see...) What else should you know when booking Shore Cottage? Just do it! In reality it looks even better than on the fotos: even more space, even more views. And you should stay longer than we did (it was only four days). Important but almost unnecessary to say: everything was clean and in a perfect condition and communication with Andrew was always quick and easy.

    Susanne & Carsten2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful location. Deeply peaceful spot with wonderful views. The house has been thoughtfully laid out, everything made with care and quality. It is a pleasure to spend time there.

    Morag2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing property in a stunning location. Shore Cottage has every amenity you could wish for and Gairloch is a charming village in the heart of a spectacular area of North West Scotland. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property - our only regret was that we did not book it for longer than 5 nights. We found it difficult to leave on the day of our departure!!

    Judith2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal location for this very comfortable house.

    Aurélia2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We left wanting to come back to this beautiful place. The house has stunning views wherever you sit, and it’s Scotland at its best. We have stayed in dozens of places and this one really impressed us. Outstanding!

CN.C. 500. Route. We sit above the harbour, with beautiful views out over the 9 hole golf course looking over the sea to the Western Isles and Skye. Hopefully you'll see one of our stunning sunsets, and if you're up early you'll see the deer grazing the course rough.
OAKWOOD BED & BREAKFAST. We are the only house with views over the golf course and the sea. You are welcome to sit outside on the decking area and soak in the views and maybe watch some wildlife! We have a decent complimentary set of golf clubs to loan if guests fancy a round. There is a small fridge in your room should you wish to bring the odd bottle of wine or two. We provide wine glasses etc in rooms. Toiletries are provided along with towels and a hair dryer. There are also coffee and tea making facilities in your room. I serve a scrumptious breakfast of your choice, in your room so if you wish you can just stay in your pyjamas and relax. It's a 5 minutes walk to The Old Inn restaurant and pub. (great food) We have a lovely walk from our gate up over down to the harbour or down onto the stunning beach, it takes about 20 mins at a leisurely stroll.
We are a couple of minutes walk from a pub/restaurant (The Old Inn) which serves mouth watering food, including freshly caught Seafood. The harbour, again a short walk, where you can book the whale/Dolphin watch boat or the Glass Bottom boat or other sea trips. These can all be booked online before you visit if you wish, as they are very popular. There are also small motor boats to hire. There are many lovely walks in the area as challenging as you like and up into the hills. We are only 7 miles from the famous Inverewe Gardens. We have our own great, new wee museum in the village and the WW11 Artic Convoy museum is just 12 Miles away in Aultbea.
  • We stayed at Susan's house for one night. Room in accordance with the description, clean. Excellent breakfast, with choice of a dish cooked on site. Very nice home.

    Carine2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice one night stay. The check in was friendly. We were able to select what we wanted for breakfast from a menu the evening before and Susan bought it to our room in the morning - it was delicious. The bathroom is a very creative use of space and is therefore rather small but it doesn’t affect the functionality at all.

    Andy2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location overlooking golf course and bay beyond. Good food and beverage 5 minutes walk and hotel/bar with great view 10 minutes in other direction. In-room facilities like an apartment really.

  • We enjoyed a very comfy stay at Oakwood. It is a lovely house in a lovely location (it was a bonus to find it on the edge of the golf course - one very happy husband!). The breakfast was delicious. We would love to return to Gairloch and Oakwood at some point in the future. Happy to recommend.

Number 23 Port Henderson is a newly-built eco-home situated in the beautiful Wester Ross area in the north west of Scotland. The house enjoys stunning views of Gairloch and the Loch Maree and Torridon mountain ranges. The house is modern and comfortable, offering friends and families the perfect base to enjoy a relaxed and peaceful holiday at any time of the year. Ideally situated for beaches, wildlife spotting, walking, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing, boat trips and kayaking.
Number 23 is our family holiday home, completed in 2017. We built the house to high eco-standards choosing a roof made from recycled aluminium cans, an energy efficient fresh air delivery system and heating by an air source heat pump. We hope you love staying here, and experiencing the beauty of Wester Ross, as much as we do. Ground floor: There is an open plan kitchen/dining/living area that makes for easy and relaxed holidaying. The kitchen is fully-equipped and spacious with brand new appliances. Dining table seats 8 with an additional 3 stools at the breakfast bar. The living area contains a large sofa, smart TV, DVD player, Sonos speaker and DAB radio. The cosy window seat is a great place to read a book, enjoy the view, have a snooze - or all three! The book shelves contain local information leaflets and books and maps of the surrounding area. A separate shower room and utility complete the downstairs. First floor: There are 4 comfortable bedrooms. Two double rooms and two twin rooms. The double rooms have king sized beds, ensuites and stunning views. The twin rooms - one with two single beds, the other with full sized bunk beds - share the family bathroom. Heating and Hot water: Underfloor heating and a heat recovery ventilation system ensures the house is warm and comfortable all year round. Heating and hot water is provided by an eco-friendly air source heat pump. There is also a wood-burning stove that is easy to light and use. Broadband: Unlimited wifi available. Linen and towels: Provided. Length of stay: One week. Shorter breaks may be available out-of-season. Please enquire.
Port Henderson is a pretty crofting hamlet near the village of Gairloch on the NC500 route. The scenic road that leads to the house, also passes through the small communities of Leacnasaide, Badachro, Opinan, South Erradale and ends at Red Point. Great walks, beautiful beaches, at Opinan and Red Point, and a fine waterside pub with restaurant in Badachro can be accessed directly from the house either on foot or by car. A 15 minute drive to Gairloch provides visitors with a range of eating and shopping options. There are a number of restaurants, coffee shops, small convenience stores, hotels, a branch of the Bank of Scotland and a 24h petrol station. There is also a 9 hole golf course, a museum and tourist information centre in the village. There are more lovely beaches in Gairloch itself and at Big Sand. A variety of boat trips are available from the harbour, both fishing and whale-watching. We recommend trying out the local seafood options whenever you get the chance. Locally caught langoustines, oysters, scallops and crabs are excellent. In fact, you can catch your own by taking a Seafood Safari boat trip along the road at Badachro! Further afield, there is spectacular scenery and places to visit north through Ullapool, Achiltibuie and The Summer Isles and south to Torridon, Applecross, Plockton and Skye.
  • Julie's place is fantastic - a beautiful house in a stunning location. So nice to come home to such a warm and welcoming place after days exploring the area. The house has everything you'd want and more. Would love to go back!

  • A big stylish space with beautiful mountain and sea views. Great communication and flexibility.

    Kate2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing house in an awesome location - a real treat. We had an almost perfect family holiday - beach walks and treasure hunts, waterfalls, mountains, whale trip and sea kayaking. Stunning bright sunny weather made the autumn colours so vibrant! To be able to come back to such a comfortable house at the end of each day helped everyone to relax. The kitchen is well equipped to prepare meals and the open plan nature of the downstairs rooms kept everyone together no matter what we chose to do! The TV was a huge luxury for us - the kids loved it - like going to the cinema! However, for me, the "reading window" with stunning views was my chosen spot to relax! Thank you very much Julie and family for sharing such a special home!

    Liz2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely well equipped, clean and comfortable house with fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. Super hot showers after long days on the hills particularly appreciated by all. Great for a family holiday and highly recommended.

    Rebecca2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We spent six days in Julie's beautiful house, and it was great. We were eight people, aged 5 to 66, but there is enough room to comfortably sit together or be alone for a while. It is super cosy, there are books, games, just everything. The view is amazing, and the beach is just ten minutes to walk. Julie was always super kind, and fast in answering. We'd love to come back some day.

    Johanna2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Comfort and style in an amazing location. A well equipped kitchen plus comfy sofas and beds, Julie’s house gave us all we needed for exploring the stunning countryside. And if the weather closes in, the views from the fabulous windows will remind you how warm and cosy you are! We loved it.

    Vicki2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed Julie's Eco house. Could spend all day looking at the surrounding views. We loved the local trip down to Red Point. It was warm, beautifully clean with lots of amenities. Also grateful for the availability of condiments etc.

    Jill2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • 23 Port Henderson is a really super house - very well equipped with four bathrooms, a very cosy open plan living area and huge TV. The house is extremely well insulated so in spite of cool rainy weather we weren't at all cold. If you like to get away from it all, the location is absolutely perfect! You can walk to Opinan beach too, or drive a short distance to Red Point. Julie is a great host - she was quick to respond to queries about things, and she tipped us off that the "Screen Machine", Scotland's mobile cinema, would be in nearby Gairloch during our stay, so we were able to go to that. I think this is the best property I have ever rented through Airbnb. The whole family agreed this was a wonderful holiday.

  • We found this to be a really cosy, comfortable cottage with friendly, helpful hosts. The kitchen is well equipped and the cottage was lovely and warm with comfortable beds and sofas. The shower was good, and everything was very clean. Lynne was very welcoming, and there is lots of information in the cottage on what to do in the area. The cottage is close to incredibly beautiful beaches, and the countryside in the area is amazing. We had some lovely walks. This is an excellent base to explore the spectacular West Coast. We would happily return here - we had a really good stay.

Lynne and Steve were so friendly and helpful with local knowledge and really went out of their way to make our trip the best it could be. On top of all that the heated jungle pool was just the icing on the cake and perfect for chilly nights in the Highlands! For anyone looking for a proper Highland experience with the comfort of a cosy cottage feel apartment this is the place for you. It really made our trip and we are already looking to come back!

Quant self-catering cabin gently nestled into the historic family-run Dry Island. "Otter Cabin" is fitted out to a high standard with a double bedroom, shower room, open plan kitchen and living room and its own hot tub and decking area. This is a traditional self-catering unit. Kitchen basics and linens are provided. High-speed wifi is available. Unfortunately, the cabin is inaccessible to those with mobility difficulties.
The cabin is completely fitted out with a double bedroom, shower room, open plan kitchen and living room. The decking area is just 5 metres from the water's edge. Dining area has picnic bench and pots of herbs for you to use. A second decking area stretching out in front of the French windows has a bench for seal and otter spotting. This is traditional self-catering unit. Linens and towels are provided. Tea, coffee, cooking basics, washing up liquid and spare loo roll are provided. The cabin is always clean, comfortable and quiet with outstanding views across the loch.
Dry Island sits in the tranquil waters of Gair Loch (literally "short loch") where the Mackenzies have lived, fished and farmed since the 15th Century. Dry Island's current owner, Ian McWhinney is a descendent of the Mackenzies and still fishes for shellfish from the Island. He is very happy to take visitors out to harvest langoustines, crabs and squat lobsters from his creels. Warm Gulf Stream waters make for a temperate climate which attracts plentiful wildlife, including seabirds, otters and whales which feast on the seasonal bounty of the sea. The loch is circled to the south by the dramatic Torridon Mountains including the 3300ft high Beinn Alligin and Slioch (3215ft), one of Scotland's finest mountains. Inverness is the nearest city to Dry Island and is approximately 90 minutes drive away. Across the sea is Skye, the Isle of Rona and the Inner Hebrides and boat trips to the islands can be booked during your stay. The village of Badachro on the shores of Gair Loch has a fine pub with a restaurant in which to dine and relax after a day in the hills. However you want to relax and unwind, Dry Island has so much to offer.
  • If you're looking for peace and tranquility away from the bustle of life, this is your place. You need your walking boots so you can safely negotiate the walk down to and across the bridge. If you go out of season as we did, take some simple to cook meal ideas with you - in February, not many pubs were open, let alone serving food at all times of day and night. You have to remember this isn't the city where nothing sleeps. It's a very different beautiful world you're going to experience. Be prepared, switch off from life and just enjoy everything there is to see.

  • The most magical place I have ever visited. The cabin is cosy and comfortable and the perfect tranquil getaway. Ian was an extremely friendly host and made us feel welcome on his little island. Watching the seals bobbing past the hot tub was a perfect pastime on an otherwise cold day.

    Alex2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin has beautiful views which you can enjoy from the comfort of a hot tub right on the waters edge. The sunrises are amazing and we saw seals swimming outside the cabin most days but no otters while we were there. The walk down the steps from the car park and across the floating bridge to the cabin is fun but some might find it difficult to manage. Unfortunately there were no seafood safaris running on the days we were there, but we did enjoy some of Ian’s freshly caught langoustines - they were delicious.

  • Brilliant! The hot tub was ideal, even though the weather was rubbish. The cabin is very cosy and has excellent views out over the loch.

  • My partner and I and our small dog Porridge had a fabulous three-night stay at the Nature Observatory. The kitchen is fully kitted out, the bed comfortable and the hot tub glorious after a day out trekking in the hills in December. Ian was an excellent host, giving us insider tips of the local area and even bringing us squat lobster tails for our NYE supper. If you are looking for a place to chill and get away from the daily grind, you couldn't get much more out of the way and picturesque than this. Thanks Ian for a brilliant stay.

ℹ️ Guests must acknowledge: 📌 Difficult climb down to island and floating footbridge 📌 Detached toilet and shower (see photos) 📌 Limited heating in winter months Recommended in Rough Guide, Observer, and The Times Travel, our Cabin and Barrel are an excellent space for couples to experience our magical little corner of the Scottish Highlands here on our historic family-owned island.
Enjoy your holiday in total privacy on the southern half of a historic family-owned island. Unlike traditional campsites in the highlands, this "Bothy and Barrel" is just for you with detached private shower and toilet facilities, and a kitchen complete with all of the cooking essentials. The barrel is suitable for adult couples, while the cabin living room space has a pullout sofa for a third guest. There is a television and wifi. Unfortunately, the site is inaccessible to those with mobility difficulties, as accessing the island requires a challenging 10-minute walk down the hill from the car park and crossing a slippery floating footbridge. Waterproof, high grip shoes are a must and guests must carry torches after dusk. Torches provided free of charge.
  • All you could ask for. The most beautiful part of the country. Quirky stay on our half of the island. Last minute booking as meant to be in Venice. Can’t wait to come back.

  • Great, quirky and secluded spot. The floating bridge is definitely an adventure in rough seas and dark nights but it was stunningly beautiful the next day. Ian is a friendly host and the new wood fired hot tub is a great addition. Accommodation was warm and cosy even in early March. Thanks Ian!

  • We had a lovely stay at Ian's place. It's a really unique setting and we loved walking around with our dog and exploring the local village - including the lovely pub. The cabin was really comfortable and cosy. I would definitely stay there again.

  • We spent 4 nights in the cosy cabin on Dry Island in January. Wonderful location & crossing the bridge in the windy weather was exciting and terrifying in equal measures! The cabin & barrel is cosy, comfortable & has everything you need for what felt like an island escape. Ian was a great host, giving us langoustines, squat lobsters & velvet crabs for our dinner, he even gave us a ride home from the pub in his boat! The sea safari is a MUST and is fascinating for all ages. We spotted lots of seals basking on the rocks & Ian’s local knowledge of the area is second to none. We hope to return to Dry Island for another refreshing & relaxing break, however perhaps in summer when we can make the most of the fire pit out front!

  • Great hospitality and an amazingly quirky space 😊 We will be back

  • We absolutely loved our stay on Islonia. Iain was a fantastic host and very welcoming. Will remember it forever and be back for sure.

  • This is a spectacular, remote location. If you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous than your average place to stay, this is well worth a look. But bring a good torch, good grief does it get dark. The Badachro Inn serves good food and is just far enough a walk to make it feel like you’ve earned it!

    Allan2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • We just stay a night at ian's place, but he was really kind for bringing us somenthing to eat because everything was closed at the time we arrived. We really suggest his places, maybe for more than one night.

A luxurious house situated within its own croft in the small crofting township of Big Sand, 4 miles west of Gairloch. Enjoying a raised site providing outstanding views of the Torridon Mountains, Skye and the sandy beach next to the Sands Caravan and Camping Site. We live and work close to the house so will be available most of the time if you need help or have any questions.
There is under-floor heating throughout the ground floor, a large kitchen diner with southerly facing views, sliding doors leading out onto the garden which has a patio and large bench table to eat out or relax when weather permits. The lounge has a large LCD TV with free view, leather seating and a very efficient multi fuel stove. There is a bathroom with bath, toilet and wash hand basin and also an en-suite bedroom with king size bed. Also on the ground floor is a utility room with washing machine, sink, freezer and clothes drying pulley. There are three bedrooms upstairs one with king size bed, one twin bedded and one single bedroom. Also upstairs is a separate walk-in shower, toilet and wash hand basin.
  • Really nice place with a cozy chimney

  • Lovely big house in a stunning location. The interior is modern and very well equipped. Great communication with the host. Could not have asked for more

    Sean2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very well equipped house, with tastefully decorated and large rooms. The location, above the sea and village, could not be better.

  • A Fantastic spotless property set within an ideal location with amazing views. The house has everything you need and there are plenty of nice walks around. The most beautiful beach is just a walk away by the campsite. Very comfy beds and couches, underfloor heating, loads of good games. Highly recommended.

  • Wow! The photos really don't do this place justice. A beautiful, clean and comfortable house with the most incredible views. We loved it and hope to return again.

  • The Sands Holiday House was a very comfortable place to stay. There was everything you needed to make it a completely self catered stay, while the Barn Cafe was just down the road for those who prefer to let someone else do the cooking. The property is very nicely arranged with quality furnishings and lots of thoughtful touches. The 3 full baths and 4 bedrooms give a lot of space and privacy to guests. It has wonderful views of the beautiful loch and surrounding area. Remote and yet not that far from town, a perfect spot for a relaxing base of stay while touring this part of the Highlands.

  • Absolutely stunning home with a stunning view. House was spotless, close to the beach and town. Would highly recommend.

Situated on the south side of Loch Gairloch in the hamlet of Leacnasaide the house sits in secluded woodland with views of the sea. The house has 2 doubles, a twin and a single bedroom and provides a comfortable base for exploring a magnificent area. The house benefits from a large, private garden that is perfect for exploring or enjoying a BBQ when the weather permits.
The property was built in the 1970s and provides cosy accommodation with modern touches throughout. There is an open fire in the living room that provides a great focal point and somewhere to relax after a day exploring the local area. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table big enough for everyone to sit round and enjoy a meal together. The master bedroom has a king bed, bedroom 2 has a double, bedroom 3 has two singles and bedroom 4 has a single bed and a single that can pull out from underneath it.
The property is set in a large wooded garden with only a few other houses close to it. There is a traditional bar just over a mile away in the village of Badachro set down on the waters edge. The village of Gairloch is approx 5 miles away where you will find a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. There is also a 9 hole golf course, whale watching and fish trips from the pier and numerous beautiful sandy beaches.
  • Beautiful location and well appointed house set in woodland overlooking Gairloch Bay. Couldn't have been better for our fishing trip and Calum very helpful in giving advice.

  • Great, well-stocked place with charm and an amazing view. Great place! It was cute, quiet, and peaceful. It hade everything we needed and very comfortable- particularly the bed. The view from the living room chairs was inspirational- great place to write...

  • We spent unforgettable days, the house is cozy, super spacious, clean and elegant! Calum is a careful and accurate host, we didn't miss anything .. My children had fun with boat trips and various sightings (seals and incredible birds, a Pine marten came to visit us under the house). Gairloch is a charming village

    Nicole2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is set in a great location to explore the Gairloch area. There is so much to do and see that four days was hardly enough. Calum is a fantastic host with detailed instructions and attention to detail provided from the outset. The house has stunning views and was very comfortable for our family of four. It is both a great retreat if you want to just relax, read a book and admire the view or a good base if your holiday is more active with boat trips, fishing expeditions, kayaking, beach exploring all a few miles away. It was our first trip to the area but we will definitely be back!

    Nicola2019-07-19T00:00:00Z

    Gilles2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Michaels place! We just stayed there for one night during our Scotland trip, but would have definitely stayed longer. Michael and his wife were very obliging! We got self baked and very tasty ginger bread! The rooms were perfectly clean and cozy. We had enough space for our suitcases and breakfast was more than we had expected! Before we left the next morning, Michael gave us helpful information about our driving route and recommended some nice spots on the way! Thank you! We would definitely come back!
