  • What a wonderful flat. We cannot recommend it highly enough! So fun and stylish, with everything you need in a perfect location. We are already planning our return!

  • Lovely spacious apartment, in a gorgeous location.

    Katy2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, location, decor, and more! The place was clean and had more amenities than expected. The size was spacious and open with great light. We definitely plan to stay again when we visit Dalbeattie. If I HAD to mention negatives it would be that the stairs are steep and there are no blinds on the high open ceiling windows so the sun came through bright and hot at times. BUT this would not deter us from staying again, of course! Thank you!

  • If you’re looking for all the best bits of camping but with the security of a roof above your head then you’ve found your home for the night. We had a great time here and made the most of the fire-place on incredibly dreary February nights. Ian gave us a little walk around his land and even offered to take my dog out with him around the land for some exercise. We’ll be staying again when passing through that’s for sure.

  • This was a great base to explore the Galloway area. The flat, as mentioned in previous reviews, is large and was very comfortable - with everything we needed. Marion welcomed us on arrival and had lots of helpful leaflets about the area. A bottle of wine left for us in the fridge was a nice touch, thank you Marion. Parking on the street worked out well and we had no noise from the street at night during our stay. Would highly recommend this flat.

  • This has to be one of our favourite Airbnb experiences to date - The Old Post Office is simply stunning. Jane was easy to get in touch with and gave clear instructions where necessary. The Old Post Office is a very cosy, comfortable and stylish space to be in - it also boasts a lovely garden which we spent a lot of time in . We were also very fortunate to have had such great Easter weather which made the whole experience even better. We will be back!!

Dalbeattie is a small town in South West Scotland close to the Solway coast. There are numerous attractive beaches only a short drive away, including the popular sailing village of Kippford and Rockcliffe. It is on the edge of Dalbeattie Forest and not far from Mabie Forest, both part of the Seven Stanes and very popular for mountain biking. There is a park across the road, very popular with locals and visitors. Dalbeattie is 14 miles west of Dumfries and 6 miles from Castle Douglas.
Newly refurbished 2 bedroomed traditional granite terraced cottage in small town near to the Solway Coast. Garden to rear with outdoor seating areas on the grass and terrace. Double bedroom on ground floor, twin room upstairs with extra pull out bed if required. Cot available.
The cottage is situated in a fairly quiet neighbourhood, although is on the main road into Dumfries and can be fairly busy (for a small rural town!) just after 5pm. The park is immediately across from the cottage and is very popular with children and adults. There is a duck pond, putting, tennis courts, play equipment, outdoor gym equipment and plenty of space to kick a ball. In the summer there are activities and fun days held here. Dalbeattie is on the edge of the town wood which is popular with walkers, orienteering and mountain biking. Kippford, Rockcliffe, Sandyhills, Southerness and other small hamlets along the Solway Coast are a short drive and on a clear day the views across to the Northern Lakes and the Isle of Man are spectacular.
  • Great stay

    Robert2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • This homely cottage in the heart of Dalbeattie was perfect for our family when we were visiting for the wedding of our daughter. The cottage was spacious but cosy. I have never stayed in an AirBNB with a better equipped kitchen! Great to have a washing machine too. The location was very central and it was lovely to have an outlook across the park. Judith made everything easy for us and dealing with her was an absolute pleasure.

    Deborah2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is perfectly located for getting around the 7Stanes mountain bike trails and is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a holiday. It's close to all of the local amenities and is nice and quiet, perfect for getting a good night's sleep. Highly recommended!

    Ian2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Judith’s home is very clean and in a perfect location to visit local attractions. We stayed here whilst visiting family in Scotland and was a great place to stay with great communication between us and the host. We will come back when visiting Scotland again. Thanks!

    Connie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage close to shops and restaurants and equipped with everything you need. A good park across the road which the boys enjoyed.

    Clara2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely break to see somewhere new. Nice touches too. Local towns nice too. Lots of local information.

    Robert2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house, perfect location with a park right across the road.

    Emma2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Judith's cottage is lovely. Spotlessly clean and very homely. You feel that you have space to spread out a bit, with a comfy living room and seating area in the kitchen. if the weather is kind, the garden is an oasis of calm. For those with kids, the part is directly across the road - a godsend for me! Judith has a cupboard with games, puzzles, lego and books - good for a rainy day. Also, there are folders of all the things to do locally and in the surrounding area - great if you're looking for inspiration. The property is only a couple of minutes walk from shops and takeaways. it is also very convenient for exploring the surrounding area. This is an area of Scotland that I haven't been to much but will definitely be back in the near future.

There were toys and books which suited our range of ages of children - 4 up to 11. DVD’s and books for adults too. A lovely welcome pack of goodies and treats. Beautiful views from the balcony and a short pleasant walk to Kippford. Very peaceful area with several family attractions within 40 minutes drive.

Whilst the beach will be too much for some to resist, the local area has marvellous opportunities for other recreational pursuits. These of course include wildlife and birdwatching which is particularly well served with the RSPB Mersehead Reserve just a few miles along the coast. The reserve is particularly spectacular in winter with thousands of geese and other over wintering wildfowl present but in summer is also worth a visit with pleasant walks through the reserve woodlands down to the beach. During the winter the reserve also runs Badger Watching and other events. The nearby Southerness lighthouse is also worth visiting and it is occasionally opened to allow visitors to climb to the top of the historic light and see the view of the coast and to the Lake District Hills, South West Scotland has numerous historic sites to explore including Sweetheart Abbey in New Abbey together with one of the oldest Corn Mills, also maintained by Historic Scotland. Connections with Burns can be explored in Dumfries and other villages including Ellisland Farm at Holywood where Burns farmed for a number of years. Cycling and walking are particularly well catered for with numerous coastal walks and also Forestry Commission Woodlands including the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes which have been laid out in a number of the Forestry Commission properties across the region. • A lovely little place away from the beaten track, striking the perfect balance between tranquility and short travelling distances to local amenities. A 10 minute drive takes you to Dalbeattie for supermarkets and restaurants. We were greeted upon arrival and then left to our own devices - the perfect hosts! The place is great - homely and packed with cooking items for self catering. Make sure to pack teabags and coffee though!

The location was blissful - so peaceful and the stargazing was amazing! We hope to return soon.

Beautifully appointed, the Lady Maxwell Room at Buittle Castle offers the experience of staying in a working, privately owned Scottish castle. The room is on the ground floor, with its own private access to the courtyard (with one step) and its own ensuite bathroom with shower. Full Scottish or American breakfast is included. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available. Please let us know of any dietary requirements ahead of time. We aim to offer guests a true country house experience.
The site which the present tower occupies was once the inner bailey of the medieval Buittle Castle, one of Scotland's royal castles and twice capital of Scotland. Buittle was home to Lady Devorguilla of Galloway and the Bailliol Dynasty, and later a Jacobite stronghold of the Gordon and Maxwell families, who re-constructed the original 13th Century keep into the present L-plan tower, c.1500. Buittle Castle, unlike many such buildings, remains very much a working building, and so retains the 'feel' that these buildings had when first built, surrounded by formal gardens, livestock, vegetable growing and pleasure grounds. It is currently home to James, the 24th great grandson of Lady Devorguilla, and his cousin Tobias, who have re-acquired the castle after roughly 60 years of it being out of family ownership. The site is also home to a working printing office specialising in craft letterpress printing and bookbinding, and a medieval chapel, with an interesting Jacobite history, in which services are regularly celebrated in the pre-reformation Use of Sarum.
Buittle Castle is nestled in a picturesque valley, surrounded by ancient woodland on one side and the River Urr on the other. Buittle is conveniently located for Dalbeattie, the food town of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, the Colvend Coast and the 7 Stanes biking trails.

  • This is such a wonderful and unique stay. Worth every penny and really a remarkable experience. Timothy was there for everything we could need, the people working in the estate were all friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the entire surround was just an enchanting walk back in time. Hot tub under the stars, breakfast in the library and the tour of the estate from James were all big hits with us. You’ll really love the extra touches like the trays of hot tea and a lovely wood burner for winter nights. I couldn’t recommend this place more and I am excited to go back in the future and see what has developed too! Thank you so much everyone who made our stay magical :)

    Calum2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is like a mediaeval experience. The hosts are restoring this building to its former self. Fantastic breakfast and we loved using the hot tub. Just perfect for a relaxing break before returning to normality.

    Rebecca2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay in an unusual location. Tim was a fantastic host and made sure we were well looked after. We actually missed the sign as our satnav took us further up the road but once we put "Buittle Castle" into Google Maps we found it no bother. We worried the room was going to be a bit chilly but everything was great. Once we turned out the light, the room was in complete silence and darkness and was great for relaxing. Breakfast the next morning was superb and filled us up well for the day ahead. Interesting to see the renovations and developments of the site and clearly it will be even more impressive in the future. Unfortunately we left too early to grab a quick tour but will save that for next time! A great stay and would definitely stay again!

    Christopher2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant time at Buittle. Tobias is a really thoughtful host and the whole experience felt very special. It was wonderful having a wee fire in the bedroom, super cosy. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and we felt really well looked after the whole time. I highly recommend booking in, it’s a lovely base to explore the wider area and a lovely experience in its own right.

  • A beautiful place to stay with fabulous views of the countryside and a very warm welcome from Susie & Blythe. The ensuite room was lovely, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were simply amazing - Blythe is a wonderful chef - and Elton & Dolly, the adorable dogs, were the icing on the cake! A great place indeed.

    Patricia2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Look no further - this is a truly wonderful place! On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Susie and Blythe, with tea and shortbread on the terrace. They were excellent hosts, giving us tips and information about the area and making sure we had everything we needed. Their home is beautifully presented, clean and comfortable, and our room was delightful - we had fresh flowers from the garden, plus toiletries, drinks, biscuits and a very comfy bed with lovely linen. Breakfast was outstanding, Blythe is a great breakfast chef and he uses all local products. We enjoyed chatting with Susie, and watched the wildlife in the garden, including a red squirrel, pheasant and woodpecker. We loved this area, and visited the artists town of Kirkcudbright - great galleries and an interesting history, and Threave Castle and Gardens, where we saw ospreys. We also did a great coastal walk from Kippford, which is close by. A perfect weekend, thanks!

  • We had a fabulous week at Braesyde in Kippford. The house is fantastic - beautifully appointed - the photos do not do it justice!! The views from the sun lounge, and bedrooms, are wonderful - ever changing depending on the light and the weather. The beds are extremely comfortable and the house is very well insulated - so nice and cosy. Our hosts, Stuart and Jill, could not have been more generous or helpful. The welcome hamper was much appreciated- full of lovely goodies. Kippford is a quiet and very pretty village, and the walk from there to Rockcliffe and beyond to Sandyhills is particularly bonny. We had a super holiday and would not hesitate to return, both to Braesyde, and to explore more of beautiful Dumfries and Galloway. We cannot recommend Braesyde highly enough - Susan and Simon Innes

  • We had the most wonderful time at this beautiful home! Checkin was efficient and easy and the house was so much better than we expected. Everything was perfectly clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed in the home AND in the kitchen. We were hosting several extra guests for a large holiday dinner and we had everything we needed to prepare and serve the meal. All the appliances were updated and the bathrooms were very clean and lovely. The views were breathtaking and we absolutely loved exploring the area. We played games, watched movies and ventured out to local villages. It was such relaxing and wonderful location and we only wish that we could give more than five stars. We were so very pleased with this home and we were very sorry to leave. We cannot wait to return! This was such a memorable and delightful stay.
