WHY WA (travel series) Episode 6: Collie River Things To Do and See! Collie is a beautiful town with a coal mining heritage and a slogan which it lives up to: “More than you think”. The town is surrounded by natural jarrah forest with bushwalking tracks, shady riverside picnic spots and scenic lakes. We have a plethora of perfect places to just wind down and get close to nature; Wellington National Forest, Harris River Dam, Stockton Lake, Minninup Pool, Black Diamond Lake, Glen Mervyn Dam and of course the Collie River! We also have a first rate Motorplex facility that has something on every weekend, a speedway, mountain bike tracks in the centre of town for all levels, walking trails, bike paths all over town and all the way out to Allanson, BMX racing and waterskiing lakes. Collie has a good range of sporting facilities including two golf courses, a large public heated swimming pool, canoeing, horse riding and a 24hr gym, or you may prefer a jog along the river bank. For the spectators, we have the local football, hockey and cricket gladiators which do battle on most weekends according to the season, and the seasonal horse racing and trotting meetings. While here take the time to see the historical swinging footbridge over the Collie River, the nearby arboretum, the art deco Miners’ Institute, and All Saints Church with its stunning mural. There is plenty of shopping, eating spots and take-away food from fast food to dine in restaurants. We are also fortunate to have our very own local winery - Harris River Wines. Oh yes, and the coal industry is still here. Coal Industry tours can be arranged (week days) for groups of 20 or more (buses only; no individual cars allowed). Conditions apply. You can also visit the museum and tourist mine, to see how it was done in the more modest style of a bygone era. You can do just about anything, except get bored in Collie! • River Gum Cottage is quaint little house in Collie with good amenities (internet,, decent size TV, washing and cooking facilities). We booked this last minute and the hosts were very quick to respond, polite and very very considerate. Bed linen, bathroom and overall house was clean. Please note it does get cold in Collie and this was expected in the house. We were very happy with this stay and if staying again in Collie will definitely come back!

Now you can stay in a home for the price of a room at a pub. This cosy two bedroom 1960s workers cottage is central to Stockton Lake, Glen Mervyn and Wellington Dams. All are within 20 min drive. Enjoy relaxing in the leather lounge suite and dining in the country kitchen which has a fridge and a stove. Because of its location near forest, you can sometimes see kangaroos on the verge. There are 2 queen beds and space for a 5th guest in the couch. Bedrooms have a wardrobe and a ceiling fan.
You can bring your dog since the back garden is fenced. You may also spot some of the kangaroos that graze on the verge in the evenings.
This is a classic 1960s workers cottage of 80 square meters. It is less than 5 min. drive from both supermarkets, chemist and cafes. We have a Maccas in town as well as plenty of great eateries and cafes. The local hospital has an emergency department 24/7. We have maps and touring information available at the house.
  • Old but we'll maintained and presented property, spacious, clean and in a quite location, would recommend and will stay here again.

  • Wanders place Whispering pines is such a lovely way to experience the Australian outback. Both hosts were very kind and genuine the cabin was fully contained and little treats and extras in there made it a very comfortable get away for my partner and myself. It’s quiet with some animals roaming in the nice gardens even a lake to have a dip in a short walk from the treetop cabin thoroughly enjoyed ourselves 😁We would love to bring out daughter next time we stay.

    Sung-Ho2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at Whispering Pines B&B. As soon as we arrived we were greeted and welcomed into the Wanda and John's wonderful home full of character and charm. Our room was nestled above the garden below in amongst the trees, a balcony invites you to have afternoon tea while watching the sun disappear late in the afternoon. There were many thoughtful touches such as easter eggs, tea cake, candles, biscuits and a lovely helping of Port on the bedside table. we felt very much at home. You can adventure all around the surrounding gardens, find yourself down by the river and greet the many animals. We stayed in Collie as a final stop to our easter weekend holiday, although theres little to do or see in Collie, The Whispering Pines more than makes up for it.

It’s a place of tranquility. The inside area has high ceiling and modern. The place is well thought-out. Thank you... we’ll be back 😊

Donnybrook is 20 minutes south east of Bunbury on the South West Highway. We are at the Centre of the Geographe Wine Region. This area is still being discovered. We are close to so much and there is stacks to see and do. The kids can play at the famous Donnybrook Apple Fun Park which has free bbq’s. There are many award winning wineries close to us including Barrecas, Barton Jones and Smallwater where you can also enjoy a meal. We can direct you to Gnomesville the back way so you can add a frog to Frog Hollow at the Preston Valley Store. (They do Coffee & Food). Visit the Gnomes then wander through the Fergy Valley. You could lunch at the Moody Cow or Saint Aidens or even enjoy a degastation at Hackersly. ( Bookings Required). If you travel south you get to Kirup, shop for local fruit at Newy’s and enjoy a feast at Lady Marmalade. Then continue to Balingup, more cafes and the beautiful Golden Valley Tree Park. Donnybrook has lots of walk trails and is great for push bikes. Everywhere you drive you will find farms with fresh produce for sale. At the end of the day come home & enjoy the serenity.
  • The view is amazing, the sound of bees and birds is what makes this place extra special, along with amazing hospitality. Not forgetting the most friendly cows you’ll ever meet

  • Please try Gwen and Alan’s “home-away-from-home”-you will not regret it!

    Penelope2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic views over the valley and feeding the cows was fun. A nice kitchen and a great deck to sit out on and look at the views. Good mobile reception on the Telstra network if that matters to you. Be prepared for a little drive on a dirt road to get there with a steepish hill to get up to the house, but our citified car managed it fine. There is aircon in the main area and it generally cools off at night, but if the weather is going to be extra hot (35+) then you might want to bring a fan or see if Gwen can lend you one. Recommended!

    David2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • You cannot go wrong staying at Brookhampton Retreat! Outstanding hospitality, magnificent positioning of the house, views that leave you thankful for being on this earth, fabulous house with rustic charm, plenty of space for sitting in different areas inside and out, an abundance of bathrooms and toilets, comfy beds, spotlessly clean and simply all you need for a great experience. We stayed as a group of 3 couples for my 60th birthday and we couldn’t have found a better place or better hosts. We left feeling completely rejuvenated and grateful for what Airbnb can offer holiday makers. I’ve stayed in 30 or so and Brookhampton Retreat is one of the best! My husband uses a wheelchair and walking frame and the spacious house layout without steps was an extra blessing. Thank you so much Alan and Gwen for your extra thoughtfulness. We will be back time and time again! Erin.

    Erin2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fully equipped house. Much better than the other 2 places that we had stayed! Peaceful surroundings on the hilltop overlooking the meadows. Our hosts Alan and Gwen gave us the opportunity to feed cows, catching crayfish in the mud, canoeing, board games, atv, and kangaroo hunting in the dark. They have 2 friendly Mastiffs, fresh farm eggs are provided and a bottle of complementary wine. Our hosts made a number of trips to our house to make sure we're attended to. Really hospitable people. Would recommend to friends to stay here.

    Stephen2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Renovated kitchen and bathrooms that are sparkling clean. Amazing space to sit back and relax, especially on the porch out the back. Perfect for dogs as well!

  • Myself and my buddy who travel a lot on our motorbikes, based ourselves for two nights at Jean's and loved every minute of it. As soon as we arrived and opened the door, we both felt at home and knew it was going to be a comfortable relaxing time. The place was immaculate with all the amenities you need, from very comfortable eclectic furniture, kitchen and cooking utensils, white goods and BBQ on the lovely extremely comfy and relaxing front verandah that is shrouded in natures best offerings that attract the natural birds of the area, along with a lovely chorus of numerous Kookaburra's on the Sunday morning as we sat and are our breakfast. Not to mention the fresh eggs on the kitchen bench upon our arrival that we weren't expecting. Jean is lovely and the communications from initial booking and all throughout the process, including during our stay was outstanding. I know my mate is definitely making plans already to revisit soon with his partner. I will be sure to organise a stay with my wife in the very near future too. Lovely home away from home. Many thanks Jean, see you again. Paul

  • I loved Jean’s house. It was such a fabulous house. Eclectic furnishing, grape vines and felt like a home away from home. Everything you could want in the kitchen and Jean was kind enough to leave me some fresh eggs which were delicious. Lovely and quiet area. Close to the nearest town for meals if you wanted to eat out. Loved my stay. Would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

  • Jeans home is full of surprises, so many quirky aspects. I loved it from the second I stepped on the steps revealing the fabulous front veranhda. Such an eclectic mix of rooms/decor inside. Loved wandering around the side and back garden gathering figs, nectarines, herbs etc. Jeans communication was amazing and would highly recommend you visit this incredible home.

  • The house is quirky and unique which just adds to the comfort and coziness. The days were above 30 degrees while we were there but the direction of the home meant we didn’t even need the aircon. The ceiling fans kept it comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you can need to prepare and serve food plus the bbq. The cool and shady front veranda is perfect to relax on. It’s in an area that is extremely quiet with the only sounds from nearby chickens, peacocks and the native birds. We drove to all surrounding towns to explore the area during the days and relaxed in the afternoon and evenings. This place is great value for money with the all essential wifi for the kids and pet friendly.

  • We enjoyed spending time to relax in this comfortable home surrounded by beautiful trees, plants and wildlife. The space was clean and tidy and held our group of friends together comfortably in the rooms. We recommend and will return for time of relaxing.

  • Great place with lots of rustic charm, very clean and quirky interior. Also had a nice welcome surprise of homemade jam and fresh chicken eggs. Would recommend doors instead of curtains for privacy.

  • I required an overnight stay for a job in the area but was concerned about COVID-19 due to a few health concerns so wanted a place that hadn't been occupied for at least 3 days to ensure there were no traces of virus if anyone had been there previously and carried the virus. He informed me promptly that the cabin hadn't had anyone in it for a few weeks. If anyone local needs time away from home in isolation over the coming months, this would be a lovely affordable place to stay.

Beautiful, comfortable and quiet with everything you could need.
The whole house is available for use. however the closets have clothing and personal effects in them. As this is a used home it is also decorated and does have personal effects around the house.
The Donnybrook Apple Fun Park is the largest park in the Southern Hemisphere and is only 1.5km down the road. The local Preston River walk is a beautiful place to take an afternoon stroll. Local bakery’s here are widely known as ‘the best in the south west’.

  • If you ever want to get away to enjoy the peace and serenity of an farm setting in the hills of the southwest you can’t go past Glen Mervyn Cottage. An ideal cosy cottage is perfect for two. Vicki quickly responded to my messages and once we arrived we were greeted by Rolling hills and inside, a warm fire. All amenities you require are there to self-cater. Whether you stay overnight or longer you will feel a home. A very comfy bed and tv were a welcome bonus. The Mumby pub down the road has rave reviews and will be a must next time we are there. The star-filled night sky is amazing. We can’t wait for our next trip.

Witts End South is a spacious country retreat-style home, nestled amongst rolling green hills, an orchard of fruit trees, and beautiful, native birds. Equipped with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, modern kitchen and open plan living, this house is full of texture and elegance, and is the perfect backdrop for rejuvenation of the mind and body.
Welcome to Witts End South. A retreat-style, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom luxury home situated on a ridge overlooking the Ferguson Valley. Just 30 minutes from Bunbury, one hour from Margaret River and a two-hour drive from Perth CBD. From the moment you arrive, walk under the wisteria covered porch and soak in the valley views from the spectacular deck you'll start to unwind and leave any stress behind you. The house boasts open plan kitchen, dining and large open living area, 3 large bedrooms with king, queen and double beds and luxury linen bedding. In the double room there is also a bunk bed. Large windows ensure the beautiful south west sun gets to every corner of the house in winter, naturally warming the floors and walls keeping the house cosy. The solar passive design means that the house remains shaded and cool in the summer. Surrounded by beautifully kept gardens, plus the "world's largest" deck overlooking the rolling hills of Wellington Mill. The view from the deck is perfect for morning coffees, entertaining or a spot of yoga, and is particularly good for the soul. The open-plan family area has several different seating zones to suit every mood. Whether you want to chill out and enjoy a contemplative moment in the window nook, gather around the fireplace with your friends and family, or enjoy delicious long lunches at our gorgeous custom-made House of Orange dining table, Witts End South is the perfect spot and is waiting just for you.
Wellington Mill and the wider Ferguson Valley area is one of the most beautiful, relaxing, and un tapped areas in Australia's South West. My family has lived in the area for over 35 years now and has seen it change from a very rural, farming area, to a thriving and friendly community full of art, craft, wine and breweries. There are many gorgeous local restaurants, pubs, wineries, and breweries in the area, plus beautiful bush walks and art classes that can be booked on request. We leave an in-depth guide in the house that lists our favourite places to go in the area.
  • Witts End South was a fantastic base for a family wedding in the Ferguson Valley. The house is beautiful and the view from the back deck is breathtaking. The supplied fruit, bread, milk and wine was a very welcoming touch.

  • Thanks for being such a great host Brooke. Brooke is so easy to deal with and offer us late check out. Her house is stylish and comfy. We nearly couldn’t make it up the hills arriving late at night at first, thank you John for coming to check on us. If we do come back for a visit next time, please don’t forget to leave the wine out for us :)

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful property, thank you so much! You have absolutely thought of everything, from the tourist pamphlets, to the luxurious linen and the well stocked pantry/fridge - it was really appreciated. Was a great space for all of our family - from the babes, to the teenagers, to us. Left feeling grounded and energized for sure!

    Louissa2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Witts End South exceeded our expectations! Beautifully designed and furnished, we only stayed two nights and were working nearby so just had the evenings to enjoy the house. I would gladly return for a week getaway! Sitting on the deck in the evening with such a magical view was the best way to end the day.

    Megan2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brooke’s place is absolutely beautiful. A lovely clean and eclectic space to stay in. There were really beautiful details that made our stay really comfortable like luxurious linen and towels. A house I would definitely visit again!

    Ana2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • You know when you fall in love with a place and there is this sense of not wanting to share too much in case the magical spell is broken? Well, Witts End South is that place for me. I cannot honestly fault our stay from the first bleary-eyed midnight Google sighting to the email communication and our actual arrival. Spacious, warm, inviting, thoughtfully designed and simply somewhere that you could while away many hours doing not much else, or even a lot. Despite the bitterness of the cold air outside, the house was warm on entry; even without the fire lit. A thoughtful array of fruit, bread and milk was left for us and everything that was stated in the description was accurate. There was room enough for three generations of my family from a sprightly and happy-to-be-there 81 year old right down to a giggly, arm waving 9 month old baby. The pantry is large enough to walk in, so if you are going as a small group there is plenty of shelf space to put dibs on your favourite chocolate and tv snacks (that you definitely did intend to share). Two seating areas side by side give the sense of space and autonomy, only divided by the fireplace and corridor leading down to main bedroom with ensuite and the secondary bedroom and family bathroom. The house can absorb a number of people but be sure to know that the third bedroom with a double bed, only has one top bunk. Big dangling oversized lampshades are there for design and additional entertainment if, like my family, yours has the one individual who seems to be naturally prone to sitting directly underneath just to collide with them whenever possible. The enormity of the decked area did not really sink in this time but that is probably because we were too busy inside or out gallivanting around the wineries and local terrain. I have my heart set on returning here, and SOON. My excuse? Well, there is the sumptuously large master suite with a writer's desk, big windows and interesting pulley -system bedside lights to experience and of course the birdlife, the red wine, the outside that seems to be breathed in. What more can I say? Do yourself a favour, and make the trip here. You won't be disappointed. P.S. Brooke was great to communicate with, and even John the caretaker, was good enough to follow up with me after we returned about an unexpected leak from the heavy rains. Nothing dampened our spirits...

    Tanya2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our family had a wonderful stay at Witts End South. The house is modern and comfortable, equipped with everything you could need. It is the perfect balance of luxury and coziness. The location and views are stunning. The kids especially loved watching the birds and kangaroos from the deck. Would highly recommend if you are considering visiting the area.

Something Different is a farm shed which has been decked out as a very comfortable holiday home. It has three large bedrooms and a huge living space. You can really kick back here and relax. Walls and ceilings have been extensively insulated and the many doors and windows allow good breeze control so you will find it very comfortable. Something Different is situated on a fifty farm acres twelve kms from Donnybrook. The shed is well separated from the farm house by a large dam and many trees.
Guests at our Shed will be able to enjoy swimming in the dam or the river or exploring lots of walks. Our farm backs onto the Preston River and walking along there will take you out onto Ferguson Road. Directly across the road from the shed there is an abandoned railway line which runs parallel to Boyup Brook road and directly behind that is a wonderful walking track which goes for miles and miles. Great fun for kids on bikes also. Two kms up the road from us is our local Preston Valley Store. Good for an expresso and licensed to sell alcohol. Kids can have a bit of fun trying to find how many gnomes are hiding in the Store gardens (they give a little prize for a correct count). Or sit back with your coffee and send the kids over to Frog Hollow to see all the frogs hiding in the bush
Ferguson Valley is our local wine lovers' road with several boutique wineries and some art studios. The disused railway line which runs along Boyup Brook Rd has a track which goes for milesa and miles. Great for bikes and walking. A nearby property offers three terrific bike tracks (pushbikes) to enjoy or conquer and sometimes bike workshops. They also have a track which caters for disabled riders. A local nursery just 3 kms around the road can sell you strong, well grown trees which are all sun-hardened. Hidden Treasures is just 4 kms away. There's a small shop which does coffees, takeaway food and alcohol just 2 kms up the road. Several local farms nearby sell there produce direct to the public. The legendary Mumbellup Tavern is worth a visit (well priced food). There's also Gnomesville which is about 10 kms away. And Frog Hollow opposite the Shop.

  • We loved our stay at ‘Something Different’. The kids barely watched tv, and played non stop with the sports equipment, climbed trees all while the dog ran around constantly! We barely heard the traffic and loved visiting the nearby Gnomesville and Bush Shack Brewery. We highly recommend Something Different for anyone wanting to take some time out and get back to basics. Vivien and her hubby we’re the perfect hosts and had excellent communication. Highly recommend

  • It was an unique experience. They have created an unreplicable harmony between nature and the art to live within. We had such a pleasant time and enjoyed Peter’s company, he has accumulated such important knowledge and knows about everything that surrounds him: plants, animals, aboriginal culture, places to visit and locals. As a conservationist, tour guide and artist, we could see They help the community of Ferguson valley and have given us good advice for our trip in this beautiful region.

    Kristel2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • More than perfect accommodation in an asthounding place. Peter's hospitality and the beauty of his nature reserve are unparallele, and this place has certainly been the highlight of our trip down south. We willdefinitely be back again.

    Rogelia2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Peter has a peaceful bush retreat/eco shelter high on a hill, away from the sounds of traffic, hidden amongst the trees and surrounded by just the delightful sounds of wildlife and the breeze. We had the most restful two nights in Peter's eco-shelter and we recommend it to all serious environmentalists and bush lovers. It was just like camping in the bush but with much better amenities. You must be aware there is a compostable toilet, a camp shower and a very steep road on the way up. If you don't have a 4WD Peter will meet you down the bottom and drive you up. Peter took us on a 4km walk and taught us the most amazing facts about bush tucker, history of the area and the wildlife. He is a very knowledgeable host! We will be recommending the Eco Shelter to all our good friends. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

    Nancye2018-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • We were privileged to be Peter's first Airbnb guests, although he is well practised at looking after visitors to his amazing property. I'd highly recommend spending a few nights at the Eco-Shelter and getting to know the abundant native wildlife around the house and in the rare stretch of virgin forest nearby. Peter is a font of knowledge about the plants, animals and humans in the area and is more than happy to share it. The Eco-Shelter is well built and comfortable, as long as you are ok with the external toilet and shower. We loved it and spent some lazy hours down at the dam, an oasis surrounded by bush a few minutes walk down the hill.

We have 8 cottages available for hire Fully self contained Each cottage sleeps 8 people All you need to bring is your bedding (sheets, blankets and towels), you can hire these - just let us know when you book and food Note there is no TV, Radio or WiFi at the cottages Built in the 1920’s to house Forest Department employees who were managing the operations in the area, today, these 8 cottages are the perfect place to relax, reconnect and rejuvenate. If you look closely you can see signs of the old lifestyle. Various fruit trees planted when the settlement was developed are still growing around the houses and the horse paddocks links the past with the present.
  • Have all the facilities for cooking and dining out as well. The cottage is big enough to stay for up to 7 to 10 people, can get extra beds and you can take your own bedding as well. Overall we loved it and would recommend others stay there.

  • Lovely, rustic cottages. Simple but clean. Lots of outdoor space and fresh air, with long nature walks/trails surrounding the cottages. Firewood available there so you don't need to BYO. No screens/devices which was perfect for getting our primary school aged kids back to basics, free-ranging and getting dirty outdoors! Friendly kangaroos were great and would be especially lovely for overseas visitors, as there are a couple of tame roos that approach guests to provides leaves to eat, and you can often pat them gently as well. If you're staying with a group or a couple of families in one cottage, expect to be able to hear each other's movements in the night as the partition walls are quite thin. This was fun and novel for us but might disturb the sleep of some. The open fireplace in out cottage was a definite advantage and made evenings extra cosy and enjoyable. Overall, a great place to stay. We will be back.

    Stephanie2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Simple but really earthy and close to nature. The sound of rain on the tin roof was wonderful, as was the clear sky and bushy silence at night, combined with a fantastic wood fire and a glass of local red wine. Perfect get away for adults with Honeymoon pool and wineries / breweries so close. The kids forgot about their ipads and iphones and had a ball making bush cubby houses, patting the friendly kangaroos and swimming at the rapids and honeymoon pool. 10 out of 10 for authentic bush experience combined with domestic comfort.

Secluded cute, well equipped eco cabin surrounded by beautiful bush. Peaceful. SILENCE! Cosy log fire in winter. Walking / mountain bike trails. Bird life and song. Brilliant starry night skies. Local produce including fruit, wine and olive oil available all around the area.
Fully self-contained cabin with small stand alone solar power system, gas stove and fridge, log fire heater, TV and lovely hot rainwater shower (great for hair and skin). There is a double bed in the loft (wake up in the tree tops) and downstairs are 2 singles. We can provide up to 2 more single mattresses in the loft if required. Please note that access to the loft is via 'ladder stairs' (see photo) which are very steep and so perhaps not suitable for small children, elderly or disabled people. There's also a wood heater for winter which keeps the cabin warm and cosy, as well as having the stovetop to cook a delicious slow cook soup or your dinner if you feel inclined, instead of using the gas stove. Use of the mountain bike/walk trails is included free of charge and quality bikes from our bike shop, Cycletrek, can be hired for use on the property. Look us up for more info on the bike shop and the property. Lowden is in the shire of Donnybrook/Balingup (we are 20km from Donnybrook town) and is 45 minutes from Bunbury and 15 minutes from the Ferguson Valley wineries. The property, Kambarang, is 100 ares of beautiful jarrah/marri bushland with views up and down the Preston Valley and has 8+ km of walk/mountain bike track (rated at blue level, however there is also a novice/kids track). Springtime provides a profusion of wildflowers including some very special orchids. The region is the fruit bowl of WA and seasonal freshly picked produce can be purchased from roadside stalls along the Preston Valley, plus wine and olive oil. May to December is absolutely beautiful away from the coast in the south west . It is lush and green and without the strong coastal winds, its lovely even when it is raining. We are above the frost line and some mornings can look down on a mist in the valley below while enjoying the colours of the sunrise. We are 8km from the Bibbulmun Track and offer a pick up/ drop off service (for a fee) to guests - and also for the Munda Biddi Mountain Bike Trail. There is a fully equipped bicycle repair shop on the property and Barrie can service or repair your bike during your stay. Please note that for long weekends we have a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights. Or you can make your own long weekend any other time with the 3 night special rate of $350 (not including school holidays) - just contact us with your dates.
Our neighbourhood is beautiful bushland. The wider area is forest or farmland.

  • Doing some exploring with my family after moving from QLD. Collie is a lovely little town. Accomodation was clean and staff were friendly. Shared bathroom facilities for men and women were great. Close enough to the rooms. We stayed with our 2 kids 8 and 9 and they loved having breakfast and dinner in the courtyard. This is the first time we have stayed in shared facilities accomodation with the kids and won’t be the last. Kitchen facilities were also clean and spacious would easily be able to cook a storm. Great stay love finding little gems like this.

  • It's an amazing place, very stylish touch from Cheryl

    Mo2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing tranquil experience. KingTree Lodge is located on a very quiet road in the Ferguson Valley surrounded by national forests. Kangaroos come to visit taking shade under the gum and fig trees while koolaburra, parrots of all colours, and song birds fill the air during the day from dawn to dusk. At night there is absolute peace and quiet and a sky full of stars overhead. Truely blissful. My large room downstairs was tastefully decorated in a country home theme. Quite cool at night and I noticed an electric heater so it must get fairly cool in the winter months. Clean bathroom with soaps and other amenities, fridge with breakfast goodies and fresh fruit provided, and kettle to make coffee or tea were also in the room. There was a shared breakfast station with all sorts of homemade jams and assortment of teas and coffees to choose from. Also shared was an entertainment room with TV, DVD, books and games. The whole lodge, a hand crafted wooden home, was like an art gallery with local artists works on every wall. Upstairs foiee had some beautiful glass work that host Cheryl had made and collected. If you are into art, this place is amazing! The hospitality from Cheryl was delightful. We shared delicious homemade cuisine on the upstairs veranda and talked about the activities in the area available to enjoy. As I had a rental car, I could easily head off to discover the forest parks and bike paths, amusing Gnomesville, downtown Bunbury and beautiful seaside beach for day trips. She invited me to visit with her some local artists in the area and a community BBQ in the park. I met some very friendly neighbours along the route. Ask Cheryl to arrange a guided Bush Walk with John. I learned from him all about the natural surroundings and indigenous peoples way of life. As a Canadian, I found this all very interesting. It was my first time to Australia and know it won't be the last. I had such a good experience staying at KingTree lodge I look forward to returning to discover more. Next time I'll stay longer that 3 days!

  • A magical venue more in tune to a stately home than a lodge huge private rooms fantastic amenities views to die for kangaroos running loose in the paddocks Cheryl was more than accomodating nothing was too much trouble extra friendly it was like meeting a friend you haven’t seen for years made us feel more than comfortable The evening meal was delicious and ample servings of everything Highly recommended

The well appointed cottage was stocked with an abundance of extra treats and a full compliment of breakfast items, including fresh eggs from the in resident chooks! We particularly enjoyed the collection of animals who greeted us during our stay. We sat on the verandah, read a book and watched the menagerie.

  • A very memorable place to stay and perfect place to have quality time with our grandchildren. The bonfire was special too. Can’t fault anything about our stay at whispering pines. Just absolutely loved it. Our grandchildren were well occupied when they visited us there - swing/slide set, a treasure hunt among the beautiful gardens and even a cubby house!

    Diane2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for your amazing hospitality! We will continue to come here each year. Your new little cottage is wonderful! Great job!
