Places to stay in Cockburnspath

Places to stay in Cockburnspath
This idyllic cottage is set in a sheltered wooded spot close to a picturesque beach. Access to this seaside retreat is by steep steps and a footbridge across a small river. The magical spot is ideal for those wishing to escape the rigours of city life and spend a few days surrounded by nature, experiencing bygone times. The sounds are birdsong and the chords of nature, the seashore nearby and the varied wildlife, all bathed in the constantly changing Scottish light.
The cottage was built around the early 1700's and has recently been sensitively renovated internally, still retaining its old world, rustic charm. Although cosy and heated by two wood burning stoves with a gas powered cooker and hot water for the bath, there is no electricity in the cottage. Lighting is by candles (supplied) and solar lights (supplied), which whilst creating a beautiful ambiance, means there is also no tv, no electric points, no fridge or electrical kitchen gadgets or washing machine. The cottage is well stocked with the comforts and limitations of a bygone age and should be enjoyed as a complete digital detox, embracing the whole experience of escaping complex modern life for a few restful days.
This is a historic place, close to the old Dunglass Estate and adjacent to the old Edinburgh to London Road where James VI of Scotland crossed the nearby bridge on his journey south to become James I of England and Ireland with the Union of the Crown in 1603. There is the ruin of an ancient Collegiate church destroyed in the Reformation in the nearby Estate, and the area has connections with Scottish Art as the nearby town of Cockburnspath was the base of the Glasgow Boys in the late 1880's. Additionally the smuggler's haunt of Cove is a few miles along the coast to the south.
  • Our second visit to the cottage and we hope to keep coming back. A fantastic place to stay and David is a brilliant host.

    Rachel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect escape by the seaside. Exceeded expectations in every sense and David was very helpful.

    Marc2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect retreat for some much-needed time away. While Ciara and Dennis were huffing and puffing outside, Billie Holliday and Charlie Kunz were serenading us inside as we played candle-lit scrabble in front of the roaring wood burner. The ruggedly-beautiful East Lothian coast was an unanticipated bonus....

    Chris2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to relax and get away from the 'noise' of modern day living.

    David2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from the most peaceful and relaxing week at David’s cottage, it was even better than we hoped it would be. The cottage was very well equipped and spotlessly clean and tidy. Thanks for being a great host David with speedy and friendly communication and thanks for sharing your family cottage, it’s truly a magical place.

    Joni2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A magic wee place to spend New Year. Very well equipped and plenty of logs to keep it cosy. Loved having a stove in the bedroom. Such a relaxing and romantic place to be.

    David2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful, relaxing, primitive and comfortable. Lovely log fires and reading by candlelight. Short walk to the beach along a pretty stream below the cottage.

    Rebecca2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Charming cottage-like stepping back in time. Ambience aplenty provided by candle light (there’s no electricity at the cottage) log burners and a remarkable location by a river and beach. Perfect for getting back to basics and enjoying a simpler life with your loved ones and nature. Can’t rate this highly enough. A real little gem!

  • Lovely little spot, was treated to a stunning sunrise over the sea in the morning!

    Andrew2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great little getaway at Angela and Willie’s Annex. The place was very clean and had everything we needed. Our hosts were there on arrival to greet us and show us around. The views are stunning and the surrounding coastline is breathtaking. Please note, the cliffs are seriously dangerous in places so if you take a dog be careful and keep them on a lead. We will definitely be back to stay and next time I hope to see the lambs! *****

  • A good place to stay in an adorable little town! Lovely quiet area and a great room provided. Lots of walking to be done along the coast in the area!

    Erica2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • A nice homely place to stay and made most welcome. Owns 2 Labradors which were no trouble at all. Lovely surroundings on the edge of the village but everything is within easy walking distance even Cove, a lovely picturesque quaint Scottish Harbour which I would recommend to visit.

  • A wonderfully peaceful and hospitable stay. A topper.

    Hans2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Sally's airbnb. Our room was spacious for two people and as well as some cycling gear. The bed was very comfortable and the outlook into their lovely garden always charming. The house was clean, bright and very tastefully furnished. The big windows gave light as well as a view, and could be opened so the temperature was always comfortable. Sally and Bob are friendly and accomodating hosts. We were able to share the kitchen and bathroom with the rest of the guests without any problems or feeling we were in the way. Our bikes and bike gear were stored safely and under cover. A great thing about Sally's place is its proximity to main walking and cycling paths. It is easily accessible from NCN 76 and the South Upland and John Muir Ways. All-in-all, our stay at Sally's was a highlight of our long cycle tour and we would highly recommend it.

    Robyn2019-08-26T00:00:00Z

My wooden cabin is in the lovely village of Cove, in the Scottish Borders. It has beautiful sea views and clifftop walks just outside the front door. The secluded and picturesque Cove Harbour and Beach is on the doorstep and nearby Pease Bay is ideal for surfing. Golfers are spoiled for choice with countless courses in the area, including Muirfield. The cabin has a Scandinavian feel with sea views and fields at the back. I have six rescue chickens who provide us with lovely, fresh, organic eggs.
The cabin is self catering and has a full kitchen, dish washer and washing machine. It is suitable for families (two adults and two children) or two couples. There is one bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed in the sitting room. There is a shower cubicle in the bedroom and a separate loo and wash hand basin off the kitchen area. There is wifi and Sky tv in the cabin.
Cove is a beautiful fishing village by the sea which is popular with walkers, surfers and geology enthusiasts. Siccar point (the origin of modern geology) can be seen from the cabin. Pease Bay is a short walk along the cliffs where surf boards are available for hire and lessons can be provided. There many golf courses in the area including the championship courses at Muirfield, North Berwick and many more - just ask for more details. There are Abbeys and Castles to explore in the wider area and the Scottish Borders in general is steeped in history.
  • We had such a relaxing stay at Evelyn's cabin. The photos don't do it justice, just how beautiful and cosy it really is. The cabin had everything we needed (and so much more) making it perfect for our weekend away. Everything from the relaxing sitting room, to the amazing kitchen, to the cosy bedroom were so much better than we ever imagined. The cabin has fantastic views out to sea which made it so peaceful and quiet. It is also perfectly located on the Southern Upland Way with plenty of walking routes right from the door to take in the beautiful scenery on offer. We were so impressed with the cabin and all of it's luxury amenities, and would love to return.

    Adam2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Host and location were wonderful - everything we could have asked for. Evelyn provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and was even so kind as to provide a bottle of fizz for New Year! Thanks for a lovely stay in such a wonderful setting! We'd love to come back sometime.

  • The wee Cove cabin was absolutely perfect. Stylishly designed and perfectly clean with everything you could possibly need. It was warm and comfortable and Evelyn made sure we had everything we needed, including fresh eggs and home made scones. Our children were made to feel very welcome and the beach was so close by. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much for having us!

    Hugh2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Would absolutely stay at Evelyn’s cabin again. Such lovely modern scandi decor, very cosy despite it being quite a chilly weekend. It is such a fabulous location with views of the sea. The cabin has everything you need for a holiday by the sea. Also very much enjoyed the fresh eggs from the hens!

Dunglass estate is nearby as is Pease bay. Dunbar is a 10 minute drive away where you can find a selection of cafe's and restaurants as well as a swim centre and the famous John Muir museum. Dunbar also offers day trips around the famous Belhaven brewery. The town also has a variety of gift shops to find a treasure or two. • Hideaway Cottage is a fantastic place for a quiet romantic weekend away. It is perfect if you want to curl up by the fire together with a good book or a movie. It is a short walk from Cove Harbour and Beach which are definitely worth a visit. Robin and Trish are excellent hosts and are very attentive. 10/10, would definitely recommend.

    Henry2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Trish and Robin were really great hosts and made us feel welcome. The cottage exceeded expectations and was a really lovely place with a great fire and everything we wanted. There's a really nice walk along the coast and the Creel restaurant in Dunbar was excellent. We would definitely go back to this cottage if we are visiting the borders again

    Fred2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little cottage fully equipped for a relaxing stay and ideally located for local walks and beaches as well as being close to the A1 for day trips to Edinburgh and much more. We had great contact prior to arriving and received an extremely warm and friendly welcome from Robin who showed us round the accommodation explaining the charming ‘quirks’ of this beautiful cottage. It was delightful to find added unexpected extras including hot water bottles, spa style slippers, homemade jam and scones and more. The log burner made for a really cozy evening, especially as it was so windy and cold with the February storms. The kitchen is fully equipped, including cookbooks, which inspired us to prepare some great meals rather than just eat out all the time. The property is secluded in a really friendly village and is only a few steps away from amazing coastal views. We had a great stress-free experience and would thoroughly recommend Hideaway Cottage to anyone looking for a quiet countryside holiday.

    Michael2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to spend Valentine's Day! Hideaway Cottage provides a relaxing and stylish space for 2, with every amenity thought of. Robin and Trish also provided some thoughtful, welcoming touches and obviously go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Cockburnspath is a great location for a variety of walks, be it coast or country, and even Storm Dennis could not stop us from getting out and about.

Kim did pop in on day 3 to make sure everything was grand which was a nice touch. The house was bigger than expected and very modern facilities, especially the air bath which was a nice touch.the secret laundry room was Roberts favourite part. Will definitely book again, if the house isn’t sold by then...!

  • We had a great family holiday at Vanessa’s lovely cottage. The location is perfect for someone looking for a peace, quiet and relaxing space. And the view is also stunning, at day time we can see the sea, at night time, we enjoy all the little stars in the sky. Vanessa is a super host, she kindly left the light on when we checked in late, gave us all the tips about where to go. The best part, my daughter loved all the board games which Vanessa provides in the cottage. Definitely gonna return here if we have the chance.

The 'Little Lodge' is a small, well appointed space that sits in a traditional grass paddock. The Inside is simple and cosy offering a well equipped kitchen and luxurious on-suite bathroom (shower). Delightfully remote yet actually just 1 mile from the A1 makes us easily accessible. It is the perfect getaway for those wanting peace and quiet. A hot shower after a long walk along the coastal path followed by a glass of wine on the deck or by the cosy stove is the perfect way to end the day.
The Little Lodge is a small, simple and extremely cosy space. Inside, the sofa turns into a comfy bed with a wonderful view. It is easy to set set up and if guests are arriving late and want the bed to be made up in advance we are very happy to do this - please let us know when booking. There is a Chili Billi wood burning stove to keep guests warm and toasty which also doubles up as a very effective cooker, a real joy for those wanting to get back to basics. • Just had 2 nights in the shephards hut. Lovely little place, everything you need for a nice wee break. Clean and cosy. We were there for our anniversary and arrived to find wee bottles of prosecco and billionaires pudding waiting for us, lovely little touch. Even tho it was windy and we had quite the snow storms it didn't dampen our stay. Didn't want to leave. Thank you for having us.

  • Second time staying here. Perfect as ever and so accommodating. Would recommend this to anyone and we will definitely be coming back to stay again. May even make it a yearly tradition!

  • What a lovely little cabin this is, it’s absolutely perfect and has everything you could possibly need! Some lovely walks nearby and a local pub in Auchencrow was a nice touch with lovely food. The cabin was spotless and the log burner was lit and the fairly lights were on for when we arrived, making it super cosy. The perfect getaway, we will be back!

  • We had a lovely stay in cozy Berryhill, spending our days adventuring nearby Eyemouth, Berwick and walking gorgeous routes from the house and in Coldingham Bay. The fire was lit and beers were ready for us upon arrival which was a fabulous welcome. Would absolutely recommend!

  • This is absolutely the best one that I have ever experienced on Airbnb. Karen is very kind, helpful and gets a goos sense of humor. The view from the bedroom is so great and we are so happy to see the sunrise just in our bedroom. Besides the whole place is really tidy and beautiful. Definitely a good trip. This place will be the first choice next time I come to Dunglass and I will recommend this place to people who want to go to Dunglass with no doubt!

  • A gem of a find, perfect location and amazing sea views. Karen could not have done more to make us feel welcome and comfortable in her home. Great communication prior to arrival and from the moment we checked in she ensured we had everything we needed from a cup of coffee to directions to local places to visit. Would highly recommend.

    Melanie2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience at Karen’s place, with lovely talks and a fantastic breakfast. Too bad the horrible weather took away the expected stunning views but besides that we loved it!

    Wouter2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very easy to get to from A1. Lovely sea and coastal views from bedroom, snug and dining room. Good footpath to the beach near the house. Karen is very open, friendly and relaxed. We were given scones and shortbread on arrival along with hot drinks. No facilities to make hot drinks in the bedroom but Karen always offered them and was happy for us to boil a kettle in the kitchen when she wasn't around. Lovely dining room leading on to patio in which to eat wonderful custom made breakfasts. Off road parking right by the house.

Traditional Mongolian Yurt equipped with everything you could need for a peaceful break away or a base to explore the local area. The Yurt is set in a grassland paddock with views over the Lammermuir hills.
The Yurt has a comfortable double bed plus a sofa bed which can be used a a single or double bed. There is a washing area inside the yurt and access to an outdoor shower and composting loo. For the more adventurous guests, cooking can be done on the wood burning stove with integral oven. There is also a gas cooker with two rings and a grill. The yurt has its own outdoor barbecue and eating area.
Although just a mile from the A1, the Yurt at Berryhill could be in the middle of nowhere. Set on a working smallholding, you are welcome to make friends with the animals or just sit back and take in the peace of the countryside. Sandy beaches, rolling hills and golf courses are in close proximity and the beautiful city of Edinburgh is less than an hour away.
  • This Yurt is in a beautiful location, close to the A1 and easy to find, with all of the necessary cooking, cleaning, and sleeping facilities. We bought a breakfast box which was delicious. There were electricity points in a shed nearby, and wood was provided for the stove and fire bowl. There is a bench table outside for eating or enjoying the sun. We were also provided with a little snack pack and drinking water for free. Overall, we loved it and will be returning very soon! Thank you for our 'hygge' home for the weekend :)

    Laura2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great host and a lovely yurt. It was warm and comfy! Really loved it and will definitely be back.

    Naomi2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy, stylish and comfortable Yurt kitted out with everything you need. Hot shower and wood stove were appreciated post beach. We ordered a fab veg box and breakfast pack. Wonderful view and location with access to so much to see. Lovely beach at Coldingham 20mins away. The hosts were very nice and helpful.

    Howard2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at the yurt at Berryhill. The yurt is very stylishly decorated and very clean and comfortable. Good quality bed. Great view over the hills. Wonderful, hot outdoor shower. Arrived in the sun, left in the rain, but the woodburner (which can be used as a stove to cook on) kept the yurt warm and cosy. Loved waking up to the sounds of sheep. Hosts are very kind and left us all kinds of thoughtful snacks. They have a great little farm with lovely animals. Communication with hosts very easy too. Surroundings stunning. You won’t regret staying here. We could live there forever...Will come back soon!

    Marije2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay- great location for the gorgeous Northumbrian coastline and the Scottish Borders. Our hosts were thoughtful and helpful- particularly when we got into difficulty with our car! The home grown food available for purchase was delicious - would highly recommend and have already pointed a number of our friends in the direction of Berryhill for future holidays.

    Kirsten2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic weekend here!Recommend it so much! Only wish we could have stayed for longer. The yurt was cosy and beautiful with lots of lovely touches. The views too were amazing. And watching the bats and swallows in the evening, along with the chickens enjoying their dustbath, was really special.

    Charlie2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay despite the weather. The host had some lovely touches in and out of the yurt. Luxury of a loo and a hot shower and sink. Everything supplied from soap to cooking oil. Loved the wood burning stove in the yurt where you can also cook on which kept the yurt toasty but also supplied a gas hob in the kitchen area. Bed really comfy. Views lovely and enjoyed the chickens and Guinea fowl who were roaming about. Outside host supplied a fire pit and bbq. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a camping experience with luxury.

I have put an immense amount of time and love into renovating my little cottage, which I hope you will find to be cosy, clean and a place to relax in whilst still feeling close to nature. Although Cove feels very remote in that you are right on the coastline with a very private and isolated beach just a few minutes’ walk away you are also very close to all amenities you are likely to require; with bars, restaurants, supermarkets just a few minutes’ drive up the road.
Your room as shown in the pictures fits a double bed and is very cosy with its own heater. There is a communal lounge with a log fire and lots of space to chill out, you will also have full access to the kitchen with all amenities, feel free to help yourself to facilities to make food. The shower room is also on the ground floor and I sleep on the top floor so will be able to give you space to relax. I have also built a fire bath that you are welcome to use in the garden which I can prepare for you (at an additional cost), I find it is especially useful to use after a swim or kayak (Kayak hire available) in the sea to really warm back up!
Cove, is a little piece of paradise. The neighbourhood is extremely friendly and there is a real sense of community, where people know one another and get together regularly to celebrate the beautiful place in which they live and the great people that create the community. It’s a relaxing and safe neighbourhood and the scenery is breathtaking.
  • Loved staying at Banks Cottage. Adam was quick to respond to any questions I had and was really helpful with directions. The cottage was a dream - a gorgeous wee cottage that he has renovated into a cosy haven. It sits just off the cliff sides and you get a great view out to the sea from one side of his cottage and a view over the fields on the other. The bedroom was clean and comfortable and was given full use of the living room (with an amazing woodburning fire) and kitchen. He made sure there were coffee and tea available for me. His local knowledge was great, told me where all the best walks were and where to get food - I would recommend the coastal walk in St Abbs. A really relaxing and comfortable stay, great to escape from the city! Definitely will be back.

  • We have stayed at Lynsey’s holiday home before and we love it, it has great facilities and lots of extra this time with t.v’s in the kids bedrooms and a internet upgrade. It is a super place to stay with lots to do on site and locally.

  • Place was lovely, clean and very spacious. The site was quiet but plenty for us to do with the kids, night entertainment was good for the kids also. Plenty of places outwith for walks and the beach is on the doorstep. All in all we had a great time and highly recommend this place! Thanks for the good stay!

  • The caravan is absolutely lovely, clean, spacious and very comfortable. It is better equipped than any holiday cottage I’ve ever stayed in. I stayed with my daughter for a visit to Edinburgh university and we had an amazing time. The area is so beautiful and so much to see, we were lucky enough to see dolphins! Our trip was just too short we’ll be back for a longer stay in the near future. Thank you Lynsey.

    Robert2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Bright and airy caravan. Lynsey is a very attentive host although doesn’t live close by. Responds extremely quickly to communication. Due to a mix up (my fault) had to check out earlier than expected, Lynsey refunded the unused stay even though we didn’t ask for it or expect it. She trully deserves her superhost status.

A lovely quiet bit of the park with great views. Very good to relax and let the world go by or you can walk to the club and enjoy the cabaret/bingo at the weekends. A charge is required to use the swimming pool/jacuzzi and the well equipped gym. There are two bars one which serves food with a nice menu and the other has sky sports. There is a laundry in a separate building which there is a charge for.
Two bedroom static caravan with lounge and patio which is a sunny area when the weather is good.
The caravan is set in Thurston manor in a secluded area with great views over the lammermoor hills, There is a bar and resturaunt on site as well as gym pool and sauna but the are additional cost to each guest if used. • The place is secluded which we really like the quietness of the place as we came from a busy City. Really clean caravan, need to bring your own towels though as was not provided, also beddings is only for 4 people in a 2 bedroom caravan, can sleep up to 6. There are so much duvets and pillows but no coverings. Big Asda and petrol is only about 5 to 6 minutes drive. There's shop in the caravan park and very reasonable price. There is a launderette too. We did enjoyed our stay for 7 days, well, basically, we were out most of it travelling the highlands and lochs and inverness, and edinburgh is 30 minutes away - 45 minutes to Waverly Train station by car.

There is also one double bedroom with ensuit toilet, a twin room, seperate bathroom with shower and a living room/ dining area. Our bungalow is bright and contemporary with an open plan dining kitchen. We have all modern facilities which are guests are welcome to use. The yellow bedroom is spacious and welcoming.
When guests stay with us we always say to them that they are to make themselves at home and they have the full use of the bungalow and all the facilities
Cockburnspath is a small friendly village with a general store and post office. We are on a bus route to Dunbar with a bus every two hours. The shop opens at 7.30 every day and closes at 6pm except for a Sunday when it closes at 1pm. We do not have a pub in the village.
  • From the start we had great communication with Sally. We had just finished walking the Southern Upland Way (SUW). Sally and Bobs home is conveniently placed in Cockburnspath the end of the SUW. On arrival we had a great welcome from Bob and their to lovely labs. It was great chatting, it felt like home from home. We had the Yellow room, a lovely room and comfy bed very clean and tidy. Breakfast was a nice cup of tea and scrambled egg. If we were in the area again and wanted to overnight, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Sally. Thanks both for a wonderful stay Dave & Jackie

Note that the house isn't where Google says it is - it's a but further up the road away from the village on the other side, on the corner of Hoprig Park.

  • What a stunning little gem of a place. We had such a relaxing time, everything we could possibly need was there and the place was spotless. Easy to get to and in close proximity to many fantastic places to visit, this doggy friendly cottage was a dream!

  • Berryhill was a perfect getaway for our quiet New Years away. The location is very peaceful. The cottage itself was perfectly suited for the two of us. The hosts were great in responding to any queries and we really appreciated the bottle of Prosecco on arrival.

'Betsie' is a fabulous, original, 1972 VW camper van. She is parked in a meadow grassland paddock and is connected to her own electric hookup providing standard 240 volt plug sockets. Guests that book her will enjoy a wonderfully unusual base from which to explore Scotlands wonderful east coast. If the weather is a little on the chilly side she has a roomy awning which provides additional space and shelter for cooking and sitting. She has her own galley kitchen and an additional two hob gas cooker and grill. Guests have use of a shared (with an absolute maximum of 6 others) composting loo and shower or, if Betsie is booked with the Wee Lodge guests also have use of the on-suite facilities in the Lodge. Betsie is only available to hire on site (guests cannot hire her to drive away) She has an awning to provide extra space for cooking, eating and just sitting if the weather is chilly. Car parking for guests is available on a hard standing at the top end of the paddock just by the entrance to the field. Betsie is available for hire on site either with the Little Lodge, or on her own. Shower, bathroom and kitchen facilities can be shared with the little lodge if booked together or if booked alone guests have use of a gas fired shower and composting loo. As we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible we provide all cleaning products, soap and shampoo and encourage guests to bring their own linen. However, we can provide linen for a charge of £15. Guests staying for three nights or more Linen is included.
Berryhill is a place to get away from everything, there are NO facilities within walking distance although we can provide our own Berryhill lamb, pork, eggs and seasonal veg to purchase as requested. Otherwise the best thing to do is to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the amazing countryside and perhaps catch a glimpse of some of the wonderful wildlife that have made Berryhill their home. Whilst staying at Berryhill you can book a days wildlife photography course with our local naturalist Laurie Campbell https://www.lauriecampbell.com This course includes the use of our own hide and a delicious packed lunch. Please be sure to book well in advance as these courses are proving incredibly popular.
  • Lovely peaceful setting, off the main road but not far from places to visit. Berryhill is full of character and wee Betsie is a cosy wee step back into the 70's. Many thanks.

Introducing 'Bella' our beautiful boutique bell tent, this unique space definitely raises camping to 'glamping'. Set in a peaceful paddock overlooking the Lammermuir hills, Bella has everything you need for your ultimate glamping experience and is one of just 5 self catering accommodation units at Berryhill, a working smallholding, where you can interact with nature, walk in the hills or by the coast, get to know the local area or simply sit back and relax with a glass of something chilled.
Bella is set in a grassy paddock, with a backdrop of both mature and young trees. A gas camping stove is provided for cooking outside and Bella has her own sheltered area for cooking incase you get the odd spot of rain. Outside there is also a firepit/BBQ with outdoor seating. Facing west, you can witness some spectacular sunsets over the hills and, when the sun goes down, the clear skies provide for a stargazer's dream. We are planning to install a small woodburner later in the year to take the chill off the autumn evenings. Bella has shared access to a composting loo, hot shower and washing up area (max 6 other people sharing). Bella lives within the boundaries of Berryhill, a working smallholding and a variety of seasonal produce is always available to purchase - please enquire on arrival.
This little area of the Scottish Borders is an undiscovered gem. At Berryhill we have the peace and tranquility of a rural location, but easy access from the main A1. From here you can head inland for some great hiking or to visit the lovely Border towns of Melrose and Duns. Or you can head east to the coast; we are just a short drive from the stunningly beautiful St Abbs nature reserve - a must for bird lovers. Recently dolphins have taken up residence in Berwick harbour and you may be lucky enough to spot them as the tide turns. Alternatively, within an hour you can be in the beautiful City of Edinburgh, with all it has to offer including the world renowned Edinburgh festivals.
  • Large tent, nice and clean. BBQ, gas stove and firepit were great. A beautiful space to relax and watch the sunset.

  • Really really recommend staying at the wonderful smallholding. Such a great place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The hosts are so friendly and went out of their way to help us with any queries and requests! the fresh eggs are so yummm!

  • Our teepee at Berryhill was delightful, clean, comfortable and well equipped, situated in a lovely little paddock down a country lane. It was perfect for a peaceful night stopover after the exhaustion of the Fringe in Edinburgh. The weather certainly helped as we were treated to a beautiful sunset, and a stunning night sky while a fire burned in the fire pit. Would happily recommend and suspect that the yurt and camper van and little lodge, all in the same paddock, are equally good.

My place has great views and is close to beautiful beaches. You’ll love my place because of the fantastic walks, the stunning views, the wildlife and the ambiance. My place is good for families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets). It’s an ideal base for exploring the varied coastline, including Dunbar 8 miles to the north, the beautiful natural harbour of Cove itself and stunning Pease Bay Beach. Edinburgh is less than an hour’s travel by car or 30 mins by train!
Three of the bedrooms + the front room + the sunroom + the breakfast area of the kitchen all look out over the stunning sea views with wildlife galore. The Lammermuir Hills are just a "stone's throw" away. Edinburgh is 20 minutes on the train from Dunbar......a few miles up the A1. The only thing to note in the bedrooms is that the fireplaces are NONE working so please don’t try.
The North Sea and the rocky coast is a stunning backdrop. The nearest (rocky) beach is only five minutes down the lane.
  • Hugh’s place was perfect for our visit to the area to attend a wedding at the nearby Dunglass Estate, in fact it’s nearly the closest property without being on the actual estate itself! It was much larger than the pictures suggested, ideal for our family to relax for the weekend. The views over the North Sea are spectacular, and it‘a only a short walk down to the beach. A great find! Thanks..

  • An immaculately clean and well stocked comfortable home with all the facilities you would need to be relaxed. Copious hot water, warm on cold days, great TV and Wi Fi. Mobile phone reception seemed fine. Lots to do in the area , a dog friendly garden and many very good restaurants in not too distant towns. We had a lovely week. John Gordon

  • The Anchorage is a spacious family-sized property with outstanding views, good amenities and comfortable living space. There is a lovely little sun room adjoined to the large lounge, great for the sunrise over the sea, and the kitchen and dining room are spacious and well appointed. Bedrooms are comfortable and showers all work well. There is a nice front garden for the afternoon sun and whilst the rear garden space is limited, nevertheless it is a nice area to sit at any time of the day. All in all a lovely relaxing property situated approx six miles from the nearest major supermarket and also the pleasant harbour town of Dunbar. One mile from the village of Cockburnspath and its small general store.

  • Our group of friends had a lovely stay at The Anchorage. We felt we had a real treat with those incredible views right on the doorstep and the whole place was superbly equipped, spotlessly clean, and felt both homely and special all at once. Hugh was a very communicative host, speedy to reply to our questions and accurate in all his information. We would definitely return!

  • Marie's caravan was beautiful and spacious for 3 adults and 2 kids. Fully equipped kitchen and the site has nice amenities. Great pitch, very private but a two minute walk to the leisure complex. No internet but that wasn't a problem for us. Lovely area too, would visit again.

Cove Harbour is a perfect location - quiet but yet plenty on offer. The house is metres from the beach, with all of the house windows looking out over the sea. Heather Heugh is a house built in 1800's as a smoke house, as Cove was a busy fishing village. The possibilities of things to do are many - fishing, swimming, walking, rock pools, star gazing (no light pollution), cave exploring, surfing etc. It is also close to places with other amenities - 35 miles from Edinburgh makes it close to a busy cosmopolitan city - but there other other local towns and villages giving much more. This is a location and house which will give you a break to remember, either as a short weekend or a longer holiday.
  • Best place I have ever stayed!

    Hanna2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very special stay and loved the beautiful cove hidden away from every day life as we enjoyed our minimoon! The house was much bigger than we had expected and had everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed the views and the log fire! It's a gorgeous location with lots of great walks nearby (e.g. Coldingham Bay, Dunbar) and Graham sent us everything we needed in advance. Highly recommended.
