  • Paula provided a very cozy spot along the Cape and offered plenty of local information/recommendations. She also provided plenty of historical literature for those inclined to dig a bit deeper into Cape Broyle. I imagine this is a perfect place for weary ECT hikers to put their feet up!

  • Couldn't be happier with our stay! I mentioned that it was my wife's birthday and Catherine had balloons set up and a birthday banner and cakes in the fridge for us, with candles to boot, so sweet! She also accommodated an early check in and late check out for us. The view is absolutely spectacular and the house has everything you will need. We can't wait to come back and stay again, what a spot!!

    Yassir2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is certainly a hidden gem. If you enjoy quiet fishing villages this is the place for you!! The cottage is absolutely wonderful with a wide range of amenities & extremely clean. The front deck overlooks the harbour. The East Coast walking trail runs through the village - beautiful trail. Can’t say enough about the owners - wouldn’t find nicer people!! We would love to return someday.

Our place is at Admiral's Cove, close to Cape Broyle, Newfoundland, on the south end of the Brigus Head path of the east coast hiking trail. It is a cozy studio-style self contained cottage with a fabulous view of the ocean and coast. The kitchen is fully equipped. You can look out over the bay while you are still lying in the comfortable double bed! There is a also deck to enjoy the sunshine, or the August meteor showers. A couple or a single traveller will be very comfortable here.
  • Terry, Ed, and their place are all very amazing. As my first trip to Newfoundland and being the first stop I stayed. I couldn't have picked a better place. Pictures do not do this place justice and no better people to represent Newfoundland and their kindness than these two. Will definitely be coming back if they will have me. Cheers!

    Navdeep2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding. Everything. View, special food items, and most of all hosts.

    Erin2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Terri and Ed are outstanding hosts who, with their helpfulness and loving nature, help make you feel at home. The location is unique and invites to hiking, but also a relaxing day overlooking the sea (with luck whales show up) or an evening under the stars helped us to continue our journey completely relaxed. Absolute recommendation! Also getting to know Terri and Ed is an enrichment!

    Manuel2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We can't thank Terry and Ed enough for having us in their home. The place is all you'd need to unwind and reset. We woke to the sunrise over the Atlantic ocean ,with whales feeding away. The house has all the basic necessities for your stay. The house and the hosts are both inviting. We are definitely looking forward to coming back.

  • Terrific view and friendly hosts.

    Robert2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect place to sit and relax. It also not far from perfect sight site seeing spots and a hiking trail is right up the road. Our host even made sure there was an iceberg in their bay and eggs and milk and fresh baked goods for us. The place was immaculate and exactly as described. We would highly recommend it if your going around the Irish Loop.

On the Sea. A cozy bunky with double bed .. a large window and glass door looking at our cliffside with a private little porch. Off the porch is a sink with running water, but as part of the compound all amenities are available incl full washroom. We are located conveniently on the Southern Shore, close enough to St. John's, Petty Harbour, Ferryland, Trepassy and even St. Vincent for day excursions. The BUNKY is located next to the Cabin, Barn and Teepee on the property.
A Bunky with good taste is something hard to find. Really minimal accomodation, but a roof over your head and a shared bathroom. The two person bed, is comfortable.
Our neighborhood is a hamlet, with 15 houses in it, all lived in by full time residents. We are on a beach, but protected by a cliff, walk around the cliff and voila - the beach and harbour and a wharf and a stream. Walk around the other corner and you will find a swimming lake (called pond in Newfoundland). A few sunny days and pond is warm.
  • Lovely spot, great little place to get away, had many sweet little touches and was very homely

    Danny2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Warm welcome

    Gordon2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in the Barn! Before arriving, George let us know that we were being placed in the Barn which provided more space than the bunky we originally booked. We had a wonderful time here - able to cook our own meals on the hot plate and toaster oven and in perfect proximity to some great hikes on the east coast trail. George and Chabela provided us with helpful tips on great local stops. We ended up purchasing a book and some art at the local printing press in Tors Cove. We highly recommend George and Chabela’s Bauline East AirBnB’s! Such a wonderful end to our time in Newfoundland!

    Laura2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Bunky 4 lyfe. Best bed ever. Makes me wonder why the heck I live in the city.

    Sarah2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great, little space. Just enough for getaway from the hustle and bustle. Great hosts, very friendly. Nice, short walk to the beach!

    Timothy2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very special place. George and Chabela couldn’t have been more accommodating. Were nice enough to not only share their beautiful property situated right at the water but also their kind words and delicious locally sourced cod we cooked up that evening. Only wished we stayed longer. We will definitely be back and I recommend to any one staying here to check out the hikes near by in La Manche. Big love from Hilary and I!

  • This is “heaven on earth”. I highly recommend everybody a stay at this great place and enjoy the warm-hearted hosts.

    Alessandro2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you to George and Chabela who were so welcoming and full of plenty of suggestions for the area. They were offering of amenities when we needed them and treated us as friends as soon as we arrived. The place they have is unique and unlike any other Airbnb I have stayed at. We quickly made friends with the travellers in the other cabins and the locals. We enjoyed the quiet rustic cabins in a small town which made it feel like the true Newfoundland experience!

Bauline is an "outport". We are really at the end of the road, on the beach or you can hike into La Manche Park. People in our neighborhood, still fish when they can, cut their own wood, some grow food, others go away to work, others are local carpenters. It is a colorful neighborhood. We are located conveniently on the Southern Shore, close enough to St. John's, Petty Harbour, Ferryland, Trepassy and even St. Vincent for day excursions. The sibley TENT is next to the CABIN, BUNKY + BARN
On the Sea. Our Camp includes three cabins (BUNKY, BARN and CABIN, a main house, and the TENT. In Newfoundland it is possible to glamcamp. Very rustic and fun. Our Camp has fireplaces, BBQ, communal tables and shared bathroom. Come visit. The sibley TENT is glamcamping camping.. The canvas warms the space really nicely at night and during the day the vents keep a breeze flowing. We have outfitted the space with a wood floor, twin bed with bedding, mats, night table, lantern, some chairs and a propane heater. Of course the best time to use the TENT is during good weather, however in Newfoundland that is totally unpredictable. The TENT is 100% dry inside, the OUTHAUSE is as well, so expect to camp and enjoy the experience.
Bauline is what is called an "outport". Today we are about 1 hour from St. John's, the original settlement would have have been more than a day's horse ride from there. We are really at the end of the road, from our harbour you can go out to sea, or you go back to where you came from, or you can up into La Manche Park (hiking). Please in our neighborhood, still fish when they can, cut their own wood, some grow food, others go away to work in the oil projects, others are local carpenters. It is a colorful neighborhood.
  • One of my most favourite summer escapes from St. John's. I love staying out at George and Chabela's!

    Sarah2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • George and Chabela’s teepee was a great experience! It was so relaxing listening to the waves crash against the beach while laying in bed. George and Chabela are very friendly, easy going people who go out of their way to make you feel right at home! Everything you need is on location and hiking trails are only a few feet away!

    Jill2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • I had an incredible time here. Location is right on the beach, each place they have is comfortable and adorable. Coffee, tea, and seats outside, everything you need for a wonderful morning. And their hospitality is above all else. They are such wonderful hosts and people. I will always recommend their place. I think anyone would have a wonderful time here!

    Sarah2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • The bunky is a fabulously unique option for the unpretentious adventure seeker. George & Chabela’s property is in a spectacular location and there is nothing better than ending the day with a fire on the beach. Highly recommend a stay here.

    Allison2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • A very cute and relaxing getaway. Although it's somewhat rustic, the hospitality was great and they provided everything you need for a cozy stay. Setting is beautiful and if you love nature, you will love it here.

    Tracy2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, quiet place on a small scenic harbor well situated to explore the Avalon peninsula. Great information about local sites and superb hospitality. Highly recommended!

    Daniel2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay. Going to recommend to others.

    Colin2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing experience. George and Chabela were in constant contact which was so helpful. The Tee Pee was so cool and a great night sleep. We arrived late and George built our fire while we settled in. We had a great fire on the beach and the tee pee was perfect for sleeping. They provided us with coffee and muffins in the morning which was thoughtful. I definitely recommend the outside shower!! Such a great touch. Can’t wait to go back again!! Thank you!!

Spectacular views and ideally located along the Irish loop on the scenic Avalon Peninsula. Our home offers blueberry picking, the east coast trail, and whale watching all at your doorstep. Located in an active fishing community you can purchase fresh seafood at the local wharf. All within a 20 min drive to bird watching at the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, the Colony of the Avalon in Ferryland a premiere historical/archeological site and La Manche park with its thrilling new suspension bridge.
This is a cozy & rustic 3-season cabin. The kitchen is equipped with basic amenities including stove, oven, fridge, toaster oven and supplies for preparing meals. The main room has a wood stove and wood can be purchased at the Ultramar in Cape Broyle 10 minutes away. There is one bedroom with a queen size bed and a door for privacy. The other sleeping areas are less private as they are off the common spaces. There is a bunk bed (lower bunk double bed, upper bunk single bed) off of the main living room (you must pass through this room to access the bathroom), and there is a loft with 2 twin mattresses on the floor (you must climb a wooden ladder to access the loft - it is not recommended for young children). A double air mattress can be provided if requested. The bathroom is equipped with a sink, shower (5 head spa shower) and toilet. Water is sourced from a drilled well and is potable. Lots of parking in the clearing and space enough for an RV next to the forge. There is an outdoor area with a small fire grill with a picnic table and benches. There are towels and blankets, as well as games in the closets. There is a TV and attached DVD player in the sunroom with a collection of various movies and TV series. There is no cable or wifi and mobile phone reception is limited (you have to position the phone on the edge of the sunroom windows to get limited reception). When the whales are feeding in the bay you can leave your window open at night to hear them breach and slap the ocean surface.
Brigus South is a small, quiet community on the Irish Loop Drive (route 10) The Community is located past La Manche park and before Cape Broyle. The East Coast trail enters and exits the community. There is an active wharf in the community.
  • A home away from home feeling. Cozy and very memorable. We can't wait to go back :)

    Krista2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Whale Song is a rustic cabin, about 45 minutes from town. The handmade wooden kitchen cabinets and woodstove with wood provided, added to it's appeal. The view of the harbour is very scenic and peaceful. We throughly enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

Beds were very comfortable and there was a great selection of movies. The hosts were unbelievably quick to respond and when we messaged them about a corkscrew, they had one delivered to us from a neighbour within minutes!! • The place is excellent. Stylish and has all the amenities one would need for a few days stay. Thoughtfully designed place. The jacuzzi is very useful and easy to use. The view from the jacuzzi deck is amazing. Amanda was a wonderful host and took care of everything. I visited in December and the snow plowing was taken care of as well. NLC and Foodland are within 5 mins driving distance. But not a lot of options to eat out.

  • Fantastic spot in a great location in an amazing province

    Scott2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful spot! The Ruby Cottage is so comfortable and we had all that we needed. The view was spectacular. Check in was efficient and Kathleen was very helpful and friendly. The location is good if you don't mind a bit of a drive to the different attractions in the area. Expect anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on what you choose to do. We did a boat tour at Bay Bulls, a day trip to St. John's and another day to the Colony of Avalon and Petty Harbour. All were very enjoyable days. There was so much more to see and do but our time ran out. You will not be disappointed with a stay at the Ruby Cottage!

  • This spot is out of this world. The house, the view, the surroundings, & the people were just incredible. The house itself is just perfect with every detail considered. It’s both stylish and comfy! Cannot wait to book again!

  • Great stay! Highly recommend

    Matthew2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. We can't recommend Ruby's by the Sea enough, nor would we ever come back to Newfoundland without asking to stay here. This home was the highlight of our trip and we had an amazing trip! There are gorgeous views from the home in a quiet, relaxing setting that makes you feel instantly at home; we spent many hours just sitting on the porch and balcony watching whales, so close you can hear them. The house is beautifully decorated, with every aspect considered for your comfort, particularly the beds. The beds are to die for. There are a few trails in walking distance to the home, which made for a nice relaxing afternoon stroll. We also enjoyed the location as you are an hour from St Johns/Cape Spear and about an hour and a half to Mistaken Point, so it made for a nice central location where we could relax. There were also grocery stores within 10-15 minutes, so everything was convenient. Again, we couldn't have been happier with the home! Thanks so much! Again,

    Susan2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location and view! Newly renovated and nicely decorated. Very comfortable space and had everything we needed, Host met us as we arrived and was easy to reach when we had any questions.

  • WOW - what a beautiful place - magazine quality decor! the view of the ocean was spectacular and the iceberg was an added bonus! a definite repeat visit

    Jacquelyn2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ruby Cottage was amazing! It had everything we needed for a weekend get away. All we needed to bring was food! This cottage is incredibly decorated with special touches in every corner. It’s in a perfect location, on a quiet road with a fantastic view of the ocean, lots of things to see in the near by communities, including parts of the East Coast Trail. I can’t say enough good things about this place! The hosts were amazing and super informative and quick to respond to any questions or concerns. We really really enjoyed our stay here & can not wait to return!

  • A very reasonably priced gem of a place! Fantastic amenities with pretty much everything supplied that you can think of (no BBQ). The view from the deck was amazing ... we only wish we had more time (and cooperative weather) to enjoy it! Lovely touches throughout; very spacious and comfortable. Perfect for 2 couples travelling together as there are 2 full bathrooms and the bedrooms are at opposite sides on the unit. Bonita was very quick to respond to my questions.

    Katrina2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodation with all the amenities. The deck is a great space with a wonderful view. Would highly recommend.

    Jason2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful apartment with an amazing view. The host Bonita was thoughtful in leaving day to day groceries for guests knowing supermarkets are far away. She was responsive to our question as well. Overall a great experience!

  • This AirBnb has topped the charts in comparison to all the ones I have stayed in in the past. The vista from the expansive deck was to die for. The interior was beautifully decorated. The beds were very comfortable and I loved the kitchen.

  • Beautiful place with breathtaking views !!

    Amy2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Bonita’s house is spacious, sparkling clean, and the view over the bay is amazing. We watched whales for about 3 hours one day from the deck, just couldn’t pull ourselves away. She was super helpful in recommending things to do and places to go. Highly recommend Bonita’s for a great, great stay !

    Joseph2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Bonita's place is absolutely gorgeous - inside and out (the view was amazing). She has provided everything you need for a very comfortable stay, and was always quick with communication. The area is lovely, and there are lots of things to do (I highly suggest the Ferryland lighthouse Picnic). I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

  • The Inn on Capelin Bay is a must! Hospitality that goes above and beyond, charming accommodations with a breathtaking view, beautifully landscaped garden, very clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Even without meeting the host, it's obvious how special this place is to him. And it will feel just as special to you by time you leave.

    Paula2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is beautiful and relaxing. Kevin has created a lovely space to enjoy your visit to the area and you won’t believe the amazing breakfast he cooks up for you. Enjoy!

  • Kevin is a wonderful host, who's main goals are to make sure you are comfortable and happy, and leave with a full stomach! His cooking is wonderful and he has built a wonderful B&B where you will be comfortable. Enjoy the beautiful view (weather depending haha)!

  • This place is amazing! The accommodations are beautiful and the breakfasts are so good!! Wonderful place!!!

    Sally2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin’s place is situated right next to Sullivan’s music house and would have been a real treat if we had been there on the proper days which I believe is Wednesdays and Saturdays. The room was stunning. The bed was super comfy with lots of pillows. Wonderful view out the window of the bay. A nice touch was the makeup mirror in the bathroom. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Kevin was a gracious host and would definitely recommend his place to anyone staying in the area or going to the Ferryland lighthouse picnic. Can’t say enough about The Capelin Inn.

Charming is the best word to describe the Puffin Apt. The ocean is literally at your feet! The deck is spacious and overhangs the rocky shore. The Apartment is cozy, somewhat chic, and very comfortable. It offers everything you will need except of course your food. Many of the staples - salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, spices, etc. are already there. The apartment has a private bedroom with its own washroom, a living room with pull out bed, with a full kitchen with walk out deck to the ocean.
The Puffin Apartment (formerly Bay Bulls Suite) is one of three vacation rentals in the Whale Watcher House. On Air BnB you will find them listed as the Loon, the Gannet.... and of course this one - the Puffin. The Puffin is a one bedroom apartment with full kitchen, living room/dining area, a sofa bed that sleeps 2 in living room area, and a deck overlooking the ocean - with a BBQ. The Puffin can be paired with the Gannet to create a two bedroom, two full bathroom option. Perfect for larger families...or for two couples travelling together, and looking for more privacy than a sofa bed affords. Remember to check the availability of the adjoining second bedroom and bathroom - ie. the Gannet. The kitchen in the Puffin has four major, full-sized appliances - there is a BBQ on your deck. A drop-leaf table provides dining seating for 2-4 persons. And did we mention the views...from your own deck - it is right on the ocean - and the views are jaw dropping! There is more to the Whale Watcher House. As a guest you may access all of the exterior of the property - and everywhere is the ocean. So bring your suitcase, and leave the rest of it to us.
We are dramatically situated right on the ocean - with the islands in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve as our view! Which means of course that you will want to just sit all day and observe. However - there is much to keep you amused - walk out the door and turn left or right and you are already on the East Coast Hiking Trail. turn left and it is a lovely 15-minute stroll and you are at Bauline East’s little harbour where you can launch a kayak, maybe get a run out for a morning of cod-jigging…or just sit on the dock blissfully on vacation. Continue on and you will come to the pretty locations of Doctor's Cove and La Manche. Turn right from my driveway, and you head along the community road and then the ocean to the lovely town of Tors Cove - plan to take in the Cribbies - or Marnies' Running the Goat press and bookstore...take in the abandoned Tors Cove church... There is plenty to occupy your time. Daily excursions could include: Whale watching with any of the operators in Bay Bulls – 20 minutes away. Kayaking – Bay Bulls or Witless Bay. Day trip to Ferryland and the archeological dig there from the 17th century. Don't miss the walk out to Ferryland Lighthouse...perhaps you will see whales off shore. Day trip to Mistaken Point – our newest UNESCO treasure and the site of the oldest fossils on the planet. You likely will need to book your tour into Mistaken Point - very, very new and very busy now! and they only do one tour of 24 a day. And it is well worth it. Continue to Cape Race and tour the lighthouse which first heard to QCD from the Titanic. Stay home – sit on the deck – whale spot in the waters just below your deck. Spend the day in the capital city – 35 minutes away – then return home to wrap yourself in a blanket and watch the stars from your deck. Hike til you drop – up to LaManche, or over to Bay Bulls, or up to the Spout, or down to Cappahayden, trails galore.
  • Elaine's place was very clean and tidy and had more amenities than you could list. Also in a beautiful location! Easy 5 stars!

  • Barb is an amazing host, very responsive to questions and truly a great person. You can not go wrong staying at Barbs cottage on Forge Hill. It has the best view anytime of the day of the cove in Brigus South. Watch the fishing boats, whales and sea birds or just the sun shining off the ocean right from the kitchen table. Very clean inviting cottage, you will not need anything only your food. I’d highly recommend Barbs cottage and I will be back again.

    Kelly2019-08-18T00:00:00Z

  • Barbs place was absolutely beautiful! Waking up to that ocean view every morning was amazing! We had a little problem where the carbon monoxide detectors were all going off so we called them and instantly they helped us and reassured us there was nothing to worry about and turns out it was just power gone out. She was so sweet and we are very honoured to be her second guest and for her just starting out it was wonderful!

Relax and enjoy the beauty and charm of life in the country. You are just 40 minutes from St. John's for day trips but far enough away to enjoy the serenity of life in the country! Less than a 5 minute walk to the pond for all your water activities!
  • Rebecca's place is amazing!! We wish we could have stayed a 3rd night. It was soo peaceful and relaxing. Everything we needed was there. You literally only have to bring your clothes, food, and wood. We absolutely loved it!! The cabin can fit 10 people. We went as a group of 6. It was a beautiful time in a beautifully secluded spot! I will be going back there for sure :)

  • We had an amazing time at the Lazy Daisy. The cabin is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed and more. It was right on the lake for a bit of fishing , perfect for a fire and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Will definitely be back .

    Kathleen2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great weekend at the Lazy Daisy! A beautiful, spacious, clean spot with all the necessities for a weekend getaway - we were pleasantly surprised to find a BBQ, too! The cabin is far enough from St. John’s that it feels remote while still being close to nearby amenities such as convenience and grocery stores. There was plenty to do, too - we thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the pond, having campfires, visiting La Manche, and spending time on the (gorgeous) wrap-around deck. A 10/10 spot for fun times with friends... we can’t wait to come back!

  • We had a lovely girls weekend at the Lazy Daisy! Fits lots of people comfortably. Lovely wrap around outdoor patio with gorgeous lighting so you can be outside all night! Love the decor, nautical themed and tasteful. Would definitely stay again. There is an amazing new restaurant near by as well, about a 15 minute drive called Fork Restaurant which was incredible! Thank you. Note: Not being able to drink the water was no problem as there is a water cooler with plenty of extra water jugs provided.

On the Sea. A wonderful cabin. It is comfortable and private, high cielings, one bedroom, bathroom, and full size sitting/breakfast/kitchen room with a long sofa. You are 500 feet from the wharf which is the hub of this outport. We are located conveniently on the Southern Shore, close enough to St. John's, Petty Harbour, Ferryland, Trepassy and even St. Vincent for day excursions. The CABIN is located next to the Barn, Bunky and Teepee on the property.
In the fotos it is the ORANGE CABIN. If this CABIN is not available for the dates you would like, please look at our COTTAGE, BARN, BUNKY, and TEEPEE on AIRBNB. All our properites are listed as East Coast Newfoundland Cottage and Cabins. Thanks. The cabin comforts are basic, the space wonderful. The surrounding area, absolutely beautiful. We also offer locally sourced food on site at extra cost. Located on the East Coast Trail, we are at the head of the trail to La Manche Park in Bauline East. From the house it is a 40 minute hike to the swinging bridge where the waterfalls is topped by one of our many swimming holes in the area. The East Coast Trail is 300km of spectacular trails. We have a pond across the street for swimming, rocky beach for bonfires and kayaking is also near by. There is also a tour boat that leaves from our harbour to view humpback whales while visiting the bird island reserves off the coast. Two rooms. One bedroom has Queen size bed, the other with sofa/bed that is also the living/dining room with an outside patio. All cotton sheet and down covers. The kitchen includes a dining table and all the amenities including toaster oven, refrigerator, microwave and outdoor shared BBQ with gas or coal (bring if you prefer!). This second room can be converted into a bedroom on request. The bathroom has a hot shower and there is another outdoor shower as well. There is WiFi and a smart TV with NetFlix. Bauline East is an outport settled about 150 years ago. Derived from the French word "baleine" meaning whale, Bauline East is a fishing village of twelve homes with all the seasonal activity of fishing and crabbing. This is an ideal space for people who enjoy rustic living, suited for artists or traveling adventurers, loungers (there is hammocks), hikers, whale watchers, bird spotters and music festival goers.. We are 50 minutes south of St. John's, approximately 380 miles north by northwest and 1,000 meters above the sunken Titanic, in a sheltered cove overlooking the Atlantic. NB: PRICE - If you are worried about the price being reasonable, please don't be, it goes with our idea that people should bring prices down rather than take them up. We could charge more, but we don't, we want to rent at a price which we would want to rent at but with the quality that we would also want. We do not go for this overprice motel mentality. (website hidden)
It is an outport community. There are only about 18 houses. People are friendly and the wharf is a working wharf so there is activity there most of the time, it gives you a sense of place.
  • My partner and I had a wonderful stay at George and Chabela's place. The cabin was adorable, stylish, and clean. Our stay felt peaceful like a camping trip but without any of the inconvenience. Highly recommend this Airbnb for anyone looking for something a bit off the beaten path outside St. John's.

    Katherine2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • George and Chabela's place is so special. I love going there. I've been taking my son there for a few years now and we've stayed in the teepee, the bunky and now the cabin. It's always a memorable experience. Their property is gorgeous, the beach is heaven, and their little spots to stay are put together with such care. Each spot, even the teepee, has everything you need. And George and Chabela are such kind, welcoming people. Don't miss this spot!

    Sarah2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful nights stay here ( one adult , 2 kids....one who slept on the long sofa). Make sure you read the accurate description. This is not a HGTV tiny house but a cabin. It is quirky, charming and fun. It is not 5 star but it is quite wonderful. You would not be able to cook a Sunday dinner but the kitchen space is very functional for basics. The location next to the beach is great. There are other cabins/tents/bunkers close by - as described the listing. For us it added the charm, it felt like a little community but if you are looking for seclusion it's not for you. The hosts George and Chabela could not be more interested in your care while there. They are not in your face but you know there is help at hand if needed. The whole feel is artsy, laidback and welcoming. It was just what we needed.

  • This was my second stay at the cottage because my first experience was so fantastic I knew there was nowhere else I’d rather be. The location is super close to so many fascinating attractions, trails, and natural wonders that after 2 10-day visits I still have more to see. The cabin is comfy, cozy, and clean. George and Chabela are super helpful and accessible and helped me experience unique treats such as a boat tour with a local fisherman and attendance at a rescued puffin release! We even rescued a baby Puffin ourselves. I could go on and on. A gorgeous pebbly beach is just beyond the door. You will fall in love with the place and the little cabin, guaranteed! I am already planning my return.

  • We had the pleasure of staying here for 6 days and it was everything we had hoped for, and more. George and Chabela are wonderful, attentive hosts, and met our every need, often going above and beyond! George has a wealth of knowledge about the area and was readily available to provide us with tips and opinions on everything from local trails, restaurants and attractions. He even volunteered to drive us to a trail head so we could drop our car at the other end and do the full trail without having to backtrack. If you get a chance, get his neighbour Walter to take you out in his boat. For a mere $25 a person, he takes you up close to bird island, to the site of the former village of La Manche and teaches you how to jig for cod! He will also chase whales if there are any in the area. The cabin was perfect for us, rustic and comfy. Very clean and well-equipped and the few extras we asked for were readily provided. The only small issue for us was with the wifi. We found it very weak and inconsistent on all our devices (iphones and ipad). Also, be aware that the bathroom for the other accommodations on the property is on the back of this cabin, so sometimes there was extra noise in the night or early morning. Overall, this beautiful, quiet location was a perfect base for our adventures of the week and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay, or better hosts. We would certainly recommend it to anyone!

  • George and Chabela’s property is a magical place. Steps from the ocean & hiking trails it was the perfect destination to take in the Newfoundland sea air. The cabin itself was super charming and cozy, with wonderful touches and a most comfortable bed. George and Chabela are the perfect hosts, full of generosity and warmth. Would go back in a heart beat.

  • This listing is a gem! A short drive away from St John's, with interesting and beautiful stops along the way. Right on the ocean with a beautiful cliffside view. The space was very comfortable, rustic and unique - we just loved it. Not super close to anything, but a quick drive away from some restaurants and sights, but you should really just relax and enjoy the outdoors. George and Chabela were so kind, helped us with our trip and created a wonderful, inviting space. There is everything you could need and you will be very happy there. Highly recommend!

  • We had a great stay in George and Chabela’s little orange cabin. It’s a magical spot, calm and relaxing - with lots to do in the area. The cabin was well-equipped with all we needed, and George and Chabela were amazingly kind and helpful, with lots of suggestions on places to go and things to do. We hope to return for a longer stay!

The Whale Watcher House is uniquely positioned on the edge of the Atlantic. Guests' reviews indicate that no other accommodation offered them quite the same authentic Newfoundland experience. The Gannet is one of 3 apartment options located within the Whale House. It is our most economical venue, yet you will find it has everything you need for your holiday - while enjoying your location on the edge of the Atlantic!
The Gannet is a studio apartment with a bedroom, kitchen and sitting area - complemented by a deck to the exterior. The inside has everything you need for a comfortable stay: the bed is queen-sized; the bathroom offers an over-sized shower; the kitchen, tho' small, is fully functional with convection burner and microwave, fridge, coffee machine, toaster, etc. Outside - you have the best views the coast of Newfoundland has to offer. Relax on your own deck. When the recreational fishery is on - Jerry-next-door will take you out on the water and let you jig your own cod! There's even a BBQ on your private deck for cooking that fresh fish you just caught!
St. Michael's is one of three communities that really blur into each other - you start in Burnt Cove...then St. Michael's, and then Bauline East...we have the Church - hence the name! Walk out the door and turn left or right and you are on the East Coast Hiking Trail. A lovely 15-minute stroll and you are at Bauline East’s little harbour where you can launch a kayak, maybe get a run out for a morning of cod-jigging…or just sit on the dock blissfully on vacation. There is plenty to occupy your time. Daily excursions could include: Whale watching with any of the operators in Bay Bulls – 20 minutes away. Kayaking – either in Cape Broyle, Bay Bulls or Witless Bay. Day trip to Ferryland and the archeological dig there from the 17th century. Day trip to Mistaken Point – our newest UNESCO treasure and the site of the oldest fossils on the planet. I recommend you book a tour - as this is our newest "oldest" asset, and it is very, very busy. Continue on to Cape Race and tour the lighthouse which first heard to CQD from the Titanic. Stay home – sit on the deck and chill....or whale spot in the waters in one of the many viewing areas on the property.. Spend the day in the capital city – 35 minutes away – then return home to wrap yourself in a blanket and watch the stars from your deck. Hike 'til you drop – up to LaManche, or over to Bay Bulls, or up to the Spout, or down to Cappahayden, trails galore.
  • Levine's Airbnb was a wonderful place t stay. The rooms were warm and inviting and kitchen allowed for preparation of simple meals. The accommodation was spotless and the view from the property was worth it'sweight in gold!

  • Elaine is a great host, she made sure that we knew all that there is to do in the area. Check in was easy and the room was clean and cozy. We enjoyed using the grill. We stayed in the Gannet room, I would probably say stay in one of the others for a better view (the view from the house is amazing!) but would stay in that room again if that was all that was available.

    Sunny2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine’s place was beautiful. We ended up upgrading to the “loon” apartment since it was available. The view from the deck of the loon was unbeatable, and we spent much of the time in the apartment on the deck watching for puffins and whales. We would happily return! Thanks Elaine!

    Kathryn2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible cliff side location with a great view of the sea and local islands. Woke up to the sounds of seabirds; felt very close to nature. Elaine is a marvelous hostess who made us felt completely at home.

A pretty cool area!!! Tanya Murphy

  • The view of the harbour is beautiful and we saw seals basking on the rocks at low tide. You can sit out on the deck chairs and enjoy. The house has an open floor plan which is great when you have a group of people. There is a washer and dryer but if you prefer you can hang your clothes out on the line. The house is a newer construction and well maintained. The wifi and TV worked fine. There is a church with beautiful grounds and graveyard a few minutes walk up the road, this is a must see. There is also a restaurant “In da Loop” a short drive away which has great food. Gus and Krista were quick to reply to any of our concerns or questions.

This lovely vacation property is in Cappahayden, Newfoundland (on the “Irish Loop”, 1 1/2 hours south of the St. John’s International Airport). It’s very peaceful yet in a great location to access many popular sights.
Guests have exclusive use of the entire main floor and property surrounding the house, to the oceanfront. There is a barbecue available and Adirondack chairs to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Please note that the host may be staying in the downstairs apartment. See below “interaction with guests”
The East Coast Trail is accessible from our property. Witless Bay Ecological Reserve and Bay Bulls puffin and whale watching boat tours are 50 minutes north (though whales and seals can be seen in our bay, too). LaManche Provincial Park is 45 minutes north. Ferryland (a beautiful community, famous for their archaeological dig and Lighthouse Picnics) is 20 minutes north. National Geographic recently included Mistaken Point as one of their top ten new UNESCO World Heritage Sites for travel, stating it is “home to the oldest complex life-forms found anywhere on Earth”... It is 50 minutes south of our home.... Cape Race and St Vincent’s are roughly an hour south. These are only a few of the amazing sights in the area. The entire coast is beautiful, rugged and diverse, dotted with quaint villages and some of the most genuine, friendly people.
  • We couldn't have found a better place to enjoy the nature and culture of the Avalon Peninsula, and the house and property were beautiful. Karen provided everything and more. Would highly recommend!

Great place for quads or dirt bikes or even riding traditional bikes. Lots of kids around in the summer for the child who is willing to explore. A real sense of freedom for both your children and for you. There is plenty of place on the property to explore in the lower or upper woods - they may even take their hand at adding to a tree fort that needs upgrading. • This is our second time back to ‘The Country’! We were really looking forward to our stay in the months leading up and when we got there we didn’t want to leave. As my partner says, “Gordon is a true super host”. From his Welcoming notes and touches to his quick responses he makes you feel like he is always there to help. Gordon also respects the privacy of your stay and let’s you disconnect from the outside world. ‘The Country’ has everything you need and more. Lots of interesting books there to curl up to the fire next to, some board games, clean and comfortable washrooms (one with a bath), a fully equipped kitchen with a gorgeous view of the pond..I could go on. Another feature that we love is the privacy of the property -in the night time it is so quiet and if it’s a clear night the stars are so beautiful. This is the best Airbnb and experience that we have stayed in by far. We love it here! Thanks again for everything Gordon.

    Vicki2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Gordon was great. We ended up getting the flu and unable to make the trip, but the lead up was well communicated and generous, and figuring out how to do refunds and cancellations was also easy and well communicated. We'll be aiming to rent the same place next time!

Thanks for your hospitality it was an amazing stay!!!!

    Sarah2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great place near a lake with lots for kids to do. The fire place and fire pit were great in the evenings and a good time was had by all.

    John2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was is a fantastic getaway for anyone who needs quiet time. We spent 11 days and was so sad to leave it. The best was listening to the loons on the pond while enjoying a glass of wine. Oh, maybe the best was lighting the inside fireplace and enjoying a glass of red. Either way you won’t be sad that you choose this place for a welcoming stay. Gord is amazing. Cabin is immaculate.

Valentine O'Keefe, obtained the property in the Valley, was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, born 1792 and came here as a young man in early 1800's. He was an exceptional shipwright. His son Thomas built the house and also built coffins as well as furniture for local residents. Many Irish traditions were passed on in this house. Music, songs, stories and dance were important in the O'Keefe house. The family were well known for humor, storytelling, kindness, fun, singing, music and their ability to entertain. Thomas was an excellent fiddle and accordion player and a jewel for storytelling. These gifts have been passed on to his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The home was also a focal point for running moonshine for recreational purposes and many a good time was had. Several weddings including my parents Jimmy and Dollie O'Keefe took place in the house. People lived and loved in this special house. The last four brothers to live in the house were my uncles and legends in the community. Valentine fondly known as Tine served in the Forestry Unit in the 2nd World War and was affectionately known for his kindness and storytelling. Albert was a quiet witty man who served his county in the Royal Navy and was injured. He was patient and kind and lived a long life and was the last man to occupy the house. Leo was strong and special and had a unique personality. He loved reading and poetry. Harold was funny and an exceptional singer and had a wonderful memory for songs and stories. Some pics of these folks are on display in this home. Very special people lived here and restoring this house was a labor of Love and a dream for me and my family. It was restored by local carpenters. We are very thankful to anyone and everyone who helped and were part of the restoration. The property is a physical reminder of the traditional family based economy that existed for centuries in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. A fishing crew led by the family patriarch was at the core of the economy. All sons fished and farmed the land and had houses built close together. The cellar on the property remains a testament to this lifestyle and was used up until a few years ago. Our hope is to restore the gardens and use the cellar once again for our guests to access. The original rhubarb crop is still productive to this day. The O'Keefe property is easily identified by community residents and is a rarity on the community's landscape as it is one of the few intact residences remaining not only in Ferryland but in the greater region of the Southern Shore. It has been occupied by the O'Keefe family for 5 generations and is of great cultural and historical value to the community of Ferryland, the Southern Shore and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and has been awarded municipal heritage status. You will know you are staying somewhere very special when you decide to stay here. As a 5th generation O'Keefe, I will be delighted to share our home, our history and our stories and songs with you and make you feel very welcome. Ask me about Rhonda's Rambling Tours and if available we will customize a community tour for you and your group. Looking forward to seeing you in the Valley in Ferryland and showing you our community through the eyes of a local.
Ferryland is a gorgeous, historic town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada with many attractions and experiences, lovely scenery and wonderful, creative, talented people. The community of Ferryland is part of a cluster of coastal communities along The Irish Loop on the Avalon Peninsula. The East Coast Trail runs through this community and world famous Colony of Avalon Archeological Site and Lighthouse Picnics are nearby. We have a beautiful Historic gothic style stone church build in 1853 called Holy Trinity and a local community museum that was once a courthouse and bank. Ferryland Historic Museum and church are both open daily in the summer season and you will learn so much about our people and our way of life by visiting them. The first English speaking Catholic mass in North America was celebrated in Ferryland and every Sunday mass is still held at 11:00 am. Both are worth exploring and in walking distance from the Valley House. Local artisans work can be found many places in this creative region such as Colony of Avalon gift shop and Merry Meeting Art shop in Renews. Whale and iceberg watching , puffin kayak and eco tours are available close by. Most brochures of local operators are available at the Valley House. Witless bay just 35 minutes away is home to the largest Atlantic Puffin colony in North America and many other seabirds. We have over 22 species of whales including humpback and minkie whales and most years many magnificent icebergs drift and are grounded all along our coastlines and bays. The Irish Loop is a spectacular place to watch the whales feed on capelin, krill and squid along our coast or to go iceberg chasing. Fresh berries are everywhere and wild flowers are in abundance all along our trails and lanes. We also have a new UNESCO world heritage site just 45 minutes away called Mistaken Point where you will discover the oldest multi cellular life on the planet called Ediacaran fossils. Close by is The Cape Race Lighthouse ( where the first distress signal was received from The HMS Titanic at The Myrick Interpretation Center. Cape St. Mary's ecological reserve is 2 hours away and home to one of the largest seabird colonies in North America. Every community along our coastlines has a charm and a story to tell. You will love the stories and the people you will meet. Our Artisans work is very beautiful and the creativity of our people is evident in their creations. The Valley House is proud to display and sell local works such as hooked rugs by Carol Ann O'Neill, art by Debbie Barnable, wood work by David Hynes, mummers by Marie Williams, a line of Iceberg Alley bath products and Jams and so much more. So much to experience you will want to stay longer. We look forward to your visit. Come to Ferryland and discover this beautiful place.
  • Absolutely stunning view in the morning!

  • Rhonda, we want to thank you so much for such a beautiful stay in your families historical home. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to spend with us. We really enjoyed learning about all the history in Ferryland. Very grateful for all of your help. The partridge berry muffins were delicious. I would love to get the recipe. Rhonda one more thing. Thank for the recommendation to go up to the lighthouse for a picnic lunch. It was one of our highlights of our family vacation. Thank you for your warm, kind hospitality. We would highly recommend the trip to Ferryland, and you must stay at Rhonda’s beautiful home. It is fully equipped with everything you need. The view of the Ocean is stunning. It’s enriched with so much history, culture & the beautiful people of Newfoundland. Rhonda is such an amazing host. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ♥️ Love, Lorraine, Kevin & Brendan Healy 🍀♥️❤️♥️

  • Rhonda and Joe are simply the greatest hosts. They met me when I checked in and brought freshly baked blueberry muffins for us. The amazing pictures speak for themselves but I was blown away by their hospitality. Outstanding!

  • We loved our stay in Ferryland. The house was excellent, so charming and lovely throughout. Nicely decorated and had everything we needed. Perfect location with gorgeous ocean views. Loved the character of such a historic property. Ferryland is a special place, we loved exploring the lighthouse, east coast trail and combing the beaches with our 3 young children. We hope to be back and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

    Thea2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Expect awesome natural views, rustic privacy, excellent accommodations.

  • Stunning views of the ocean, icebergs, whales, and the old lighthouse. Excellent access to all amenities. Warm and cozy cottage, well stocked with all supplies you might need. Our host Rhonda, whose family has lived in the area for several generations was a wealth of knowledge and a welcoming host. Hard to believe such a gem is within an hour of St. John's on the Irish Loop.

  • Rhonda O'Keefe is a Super Host Extraordinaire! The Valley House in Ferryland was the perfect home for a night's rest. The character and warmth of this traditional Newfoundland home wraps around you as soon as you enter. It sits in the valley of the town overlooking the ocean. The beach and East Coast Hiking Trail are practically at your doorstep. Rhonda has equipped the house with everything you could possibly need, and more you may not know you need. I highly recommend this property , perfect for getting away from it all and recharge.

    Paula2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda and he husband Joe are outstanding hosts and prime examples of Newfoundland hospitality! They checked in on us and we had a great chat with them both. Upon checkout we had left a bag of items behind without realizing it, and joe tracked us down while we were touring the lovely Colony of Avalon - he went above and beyond to find us! They’re lovely, sweet people and their property is a charming, beautifully refurbished traditional home with everything you’ll need. It’s spotless and well appointed. I only wish we could’ve stayed longer.

2000sqft that we would like to share with guests to enjoy the beautiful area of Holyrood, and surrounding communities on the Avalon Peninsula, East Coast of NL. The weather is usually much nicer here than in the city. There are many walking trails and beautiful views of whales and icebergs only a minute away, from the shore. Enjoy your stay on the most easterly point of North America, but in the quiet outskirts, only 25 minutes to the centre of the city. We were super hosts at our old rental!
The space is in our huge basement, separate from our main living area. We won’t even know you are here and vice versa! There is a beautiful view of the mountains, and the water is not far at all. If you want to see whales, come stay here, you will see them in no time! We live in a quiet executive neighbourhood. There are gas stations and convenience stores minutes away. Conception Bay South is minutes away, and St. John’s is a 25 minute drive.
The water is so close you can probably smell it! The whales in the harbour off the beach are amazing. You can literally sit on the beach in Holyrood and watch the whales. There is a yacht club, where many people set sail on our beautiful days. There is also a marine in the town. There are lovely hiking trails near by and driving distance to stores/amenities. There are two gas stations, two pharmacies, and a Needs convenience store close by. As well as a Tim Hortons only minutes away! And there are several restaurants in the community and nearby communities. There is an outdoor park with a fresh water outdoor swimming area. There is a beach party and squid fest in the summer months. Check out Holyrood website for more info on the community and events!

The Barn is not your classic big farm barn, this is a Newfoundland barn, enough to keep supplies a cow and hay for the winter. Today it is a liveable breathing space. When the wind blow, it blows a bit, so no surprises. Adventurers will like it! We are located conveniently on the Southern Shore, close enough to St. John's, Petty Harbour, Ferryland, Trepassy and even St. Vincent for day excursions. The Barn is next to the Cabin, the Bunky and the TEepee, all listed on Airbnb.
This shed is about as old and simple as any barn can be. Originally the barn of the house, it has been converted into a livable space, with some creature comforts - heater, bed, running water, outside washroom, hot plate, sofa, table and mosquito net. This space is more like camping with a solid roof, than having a purpose built cabin. So if the wind blows through it do not be surprised, it is fun and comfortable though, but can be cold and hot depending on weather. The barn has running water and rudimentary items for preparing a meal, we have coffee, tea, sugar, noodles and other basic kitchen items in the kitchen. A full washroom is located in the back of the adjacent Cabin. BBQ is accessible anytime - supplied with coals and started fluid. We interact with our guests only as much as they like. If we are around then we do the meet and greet on arrival, and we are around the compound a lot working on things. There is no public transport available. We can help if the circumstances are dire. Car rental is limited and expensive in Newfoundland so be ready for that. We do have one shoresman who drives up and down the shore once a day and can give lifts, but your day has be planned around his schedule. There is really no food shopping around here. The closest convenience store is 7 km, down the road and the closest supermarket is 20 km down the road, and the closest REAL market is about 35 km. All that is outlined in a package we send you before you come.
Bauline is an old outport. People are really friendly and curious about CFAs (come from away). It is a really nice harbour at the end of a road. Next stop is a hike to La Manche Park. There is a pond to swim in, a beach to have bonfires or walk, explore, trails everywhere. Close enough to St. John's but far enough away that it is still a throwback with genuine people.
  • An amazing spot to stay! Check in was easy and the hosts are so nice. The barn had thoughtful touches and was the perfect little spot for a nice get away. A lot of nice hiking trails around the area as well. We will definitely be back!!

  • Such a special place, perfect location for hiking , beach and watching the sea! Wonderful and kind hosts who know the area well. Thank you George and Chabela! Look forward to returning !

  • Great space, great hosts and the proximity to Lamanche and other sites including the beautiful Bauline East area is an awesome bonus.

    Jason2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent little place for a night away! George and Chabela are fabulous hosts, super friendly! We stayed in the “barn”, which was perfect for us and our little Lab puppy. Everything that we needed was provided in the space. There is a bbq on site. The Lamanche East Coast Trail is minutes away from the site. Wonderful place 🙂

    Jenna2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • George and chabela are delightful hosts. We love staying in the barn, fresh and comfy.

    Suzi2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • George and Chabela will do whatever it takes to make your stay wonderful.

    Kate2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is the perfect place to spend a few days in the area. The little house has plenty of charm, and Chabela and George are always happy to take care of you. And the area is full of hikes and nice places to go. A perfect stay.

Experience tells me that even on the worst of days, pouring rain, or thick mist, you won't want to leave this apartment! The views are second to none in this part of the province. Your deck literally overhangs the ocean. Picture morning yoga with a puffin looking on! Or waking up to the sounds of a humpback's exhale! Coffee has never tasted better. Whether your particular season brings whales, icebergs, or birds . . . you have found it - all a short commute from St. John's.
The Loon Apartment Although there is a tendency to say that this apartment is all about that view - it isn't. This is comfortable, charming, and cozy living space - it just happens to also have the best views ever...or did I already say that! The apartment features a private bedroom with queen bed and full bathroom with shower; a living/dining/kitchen area with a pull-out sofa bed; a stylish, functional half kitchen with microwave oven, induction burner, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, sink, small fridge, etc. The drop-leaf table accommodates 2- 4 persons; and of course, you also have a private deck (with BBQ) with those jaw dropping views of the ocean and the islands in the Reserve.
Kayaking – rent a shell in either in Cape Broyle, Bay Bulls or Witless Bay. Or put your own int he water in many locations quite near the house. Day trip to Ferryland and the archeological dig there from the 17th century. Day trip to Mistaken Point – our newest UNESCO treasure and the site of the oldest fossils on the planet. You will want to consider actually pre-booking a tour at Mistaken Point - it is new...and very , very busy. Hike til you drop – up to LaManche, or over to Bay Bulls, or up to the Spout, or down to Cappahayden - trails galore.
  • This place offers an outstanding impression of the coast of Newfoundland. Not far from St. John’s and on the Irish Loop drive. It’s clean and the deck view is so worth it. I highly recommend.

    Carrie2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine was lovely, as was her space. Definitely has one of the best spots along the coast. Wish I could rent it for a whole summer sometime!

    Morgan2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough about this place! There were so many neat surprises, like seeing the sheep on the island. You can literally wake up and watch the sunrise from your bed and listen to the waves on the shore below you. The trails, which were not far, were spectacular. I recommend Mickleleens Path and it’s stunning views and La Manche which had a very interesting history that you walk past. If you want to get out in nature, it’s a wonderful place, but you can also easily get caught up on your news or stay in touch with FibreOp and fast WiFi. We definitely want to go back, we weren’t ready to leave.

    Courtney2019-09-15T00:00:00Z

  • We had an amazing stay at The Whale House. The views are outstanding! The night sky is so clear, watching the stars while relaxing in the hot tub is a perfect way to enjoy this serene getaway! The place was sparkling clean. The bed was very comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed the art work on display. Check in instructions were highly detailed and easy to follow. Communication with Amanda was excellent, she’s incredibly responsive. There are sweet touches to make you feel welcomed; robes, chocolates, tea and coffee, beverages. So much love and effort has been put into making this space a relaxing retreat for guests. The whale house was a perfect escape from our city home, and we cannot wait to return!

  • Dedication, respect and devotion to providing excellent hospitality services and the environment can co-exist . Amanda and Whale House are a good example - She took good care of us and does the same for the beautiful surrounding Witness Bay- My first comment when we got there and saw our “penthouse” room - was why go anywhere else when you have this view and things to do on the premises - Being to see the stars and Milky Way at night from the bed is a top amenity....****++++**

    Jane2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was amazing. The space was very clean and well-equipped. The view was unbelievable and we got a lot of use out of the hot tub. Amanda was extremely available and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to others!

A unique stay opportunity in Newfoundland. This rustic lodge was constructed of re-purposed old-growth western red cedar from a Church. Your accommodation is part of a larger nature-based retreat space called the Tree of Life. Designed to connect people and nature through cooperative development and management of an off-the-grid retreat facility. The facility features alternative energy, natural building techniques, and other sustainability practices. Explore our outside and indoor spaces.
The Cedar Lodge is a rustic 16*12 one-bedroom cabin. Like all buildings on the property, the lodge is heated by natural heat. The wood stove is located in the bedroom along with a double bed and library of spiritual and other literature. There is electricity inside the building also to power lights and plugs. The electricity is generated by a micro-hydro storing energy in a battery bank. The main area has a round table with two chairs, a bunk bed and a chair. There is also a bathroom with sink and a toilet. The sink has hot and cold running water and the toilet is gravity based intended to use a minimum amount of water. There is an outside sink area as well. There is a private shower stall attached to the Cedar Lodge that is supplied by a demand propane water heater. There is no kitchen facility in the lodge. We provide a one-burner butane stove for cooking, and there is an outside sink with running water. Pet-friendly environment. Pets allowed for $25/stay..
Perched on the side of a hill overlooking the Salmonier River and the Avalon Wilderness Reserve, you will be treated to our large open sky and the peaceful feeling of being out in nature. The Tree of Life is located in St. Catherine's, NL approximately one km past St. Catherine's Academy if you are travelling down from the highway. Though many of the people that come to visit Father Duffy's Well do so to avail of its purported healing powers, you do not have to a believer to enjoy this beautiful little park, with its picnic area and wooded walking trails. The park is located 10 minutes drive up toward the Trans Canada Highway.
  • Great stay! We booked the place very last-minute (a couple hours before check-in) and they were able to accommodate. Kip was there to great us when we arrived. He walked us around the property and had the cabin pre-heated by the time we got there. Very responsive to al our questions. The cabin was very sweet! Well-kept and had all the basic kitchen stuff we would want plus a burner. Good table space and a bookshelf full of books! Really great stay- we will definitely be back!

  • Great experience to connect to the outdoors. Rustic and genuine! Loved the wood stove, the beautiful hiking trails through the fog forest and waterfalls, and especially the yoga house! Wonderful! Very peaceful place, with the fog rising in the morning over the mountains.

  • Beautiful property with amazing features. Loved the cabin. Wood stove was going and had the place warmed up for check in. Was off the grid and low key, just what we needed.

  • The cabin is primitive as advertised. I found it basic but very charming. I would stay there again.

  • The cabin is embedded in a compound of various surrounding buildings - a yoga studio, a main house and another bunk house. While we arrived a yoga teacher training was underway, and it was a bit different from the private getaway we expected. Nevertheless we enjoyed joining yoga on Saturday morning in the beautiful studio and a freezing dip in the nearby waterfall. Our hosts prepared some wood for us to make a fire which made for a cosy warm cabin. We managed to cook a one pot meal on the butane stove. We enjoyed our two night stay!

  • What a beautiful cabin. It was a great space to disconnect from the world. Only disappointment was that I couldn't stay for longer.
