Places to stay in Cape Breton Regional Municipality
The St. Anns lighthouse was built in 1905. This was a working lighthouse until 1962. We are restoring it and adding some modern luxuries for our guests to enjoy. The lighthouse is located in St. Anns, directly on the water. On the Cabot Trail. We are centrally located for you to enjoy all of what Cape Breton has to offer. Travel around the beautiful and scenic Cabot Trail. Enjoy the beautiful stars at night, and picturesque views of St. Ann’s Bay. The Gaelic College is just a few minutes away.
Stay at one of the most famous addresses in Canada, the Cabot Trail and at our decommissioned lighthouse. We started renovations in June 2018 and we have completed our first stage in time to open in August 2018. Every year we tackle a few more projects, in the fall 2018 we installed a new red metal roof, it looks amazing! In 2019 we enhanced the interior with shiplap walls, new kitchen floor, new storm door, moved and added a new wood stove to a center location and installed new trim work, keeping the historical Lighthouse in mind with every detail. This lighthouse has so much history. Follow us on Facebook, lighthouse on the Bay and watch our progress. The lighthouse is best suited for 2 guests. It’s super cozy with a king bed (Casper mattress) in the bedroom, and we do have a sofa bed in the living-room space. Our lighthouse is over 100 years old, so with this comes all of its unique features. We love our lighthouse and the natural surroundings, please ask if you have any questions prior to booking. Wake up to the ocean waves, have coffee on your front deck, watch the local fisherman haul up their traps, and take a walk on the beach. Walk our natural beach at low tide, find all kinds of treasures, sea glass and pottery that have washed up. Walk down the beach and find a secluded sandy beach area, bring a chair, beach towel, a little picnic and enjoy. We can help plan your stay, make local suggestions for restaurants, hire a fishing guide, or even provide a lobster dinner. The Gaelic College is just a story drive and Baddeck is 20 minutes. Cape Breton is beautiful. Our lighthouse is located on the bay in St. Anns, where you will see the most spectacular views, and the stars at night are the brightest you will see. Sometimes living in beautiful areas comes with some small inconveniences. Because of our mountains and valleys we can have some areas of the island with poor cell service, including St. Anns. On occasion we might get a local guest come and visit, some of our squirrels try to come in to save food for winter, they never come inside but you might hear them on the roof or the outside wall by the bathroom. Our closest grocery store is about 20 minutes away, in Baddeck. Yes, another inconvenience, but the only traffic jam will be the locals kayaking out front, some seals swimming by or eagles soaring by.
There is so much to see and do in St Ann's and all across Cape Breton. Locals love our varied cultures, and delight in the out-of-doors, as well. So many hiking trails, waterfalls, artisan shops, local restaurants, museums and music venues all across the island. The out-of-doors will always offer opportunities to enjoy our views and active lifestyles. Grab your fishing rod and head out along the streams and rivers that flow through our woods. Or try your hand at fishing for mackerel on the Jersey Cove shore. You can even dig for clams in the bay. In summer, take a boat tour out to the Bird Islands, nesting grounds of the Atlantic Puffin. Or kayak in the world-famous North River. St Ann's Bay is also famous for our world-class artisans. From May through November, you will find these folk busy creating stunning pieces in all kinds of media — you're welcome to watch them work. In the off-seasons, call ahead. In summer, plan to take a couple of days to visit every one!
  • This space is even better than the pictures can reveal. It is a wonderful space to hang out in and a perfect location to explore Cape Breton. Every detail has been thought about. The bed is extremely comfortable. It is very clean and beautiful. The views are absolutely breathtaking. We hope we can get back there soon.

  • We stayed here for 6 days during Celtic Colours. The property is superb in every way. It is ideally located close to the Gaelic College and Baddeck, giving you easy access to many of the excellent music and cultural events. John and Rosella are superb hosts.

  • It doesn't get any better than that. The lighthouse truly is one of the best accomodations we have had so far. Every detail is well thought out and arranged with love. The location and view are awesome. Plus the nice supplies that our hosts provided, including a bottle of wine. We would love to return one day.

  • Had the most wonderful time at this beautiful lighthouse - we are bummed we didnt book for longer! The view, fireplace, comfortable bed... everything was perfect. If this lighthouse is available, book it now!! Will def be back again! Hosts were awesome to communicate with and made our stay easy and fun! Thank you :)

  • We stayed at the Lighthouse for three nights on our honeymoon and couldn’t have loved it more! It was cozy, awe inspiring and beautiful all in one shot. Rosella and John were the perfect hosts, and we hope to return some day!

  • A real gem run by two very thoughtful hosts!

    Bruce2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rosella and John's place was truly amazing! We had such an fantastic stay in Cape Breton. The Lighthouse was clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more! Our hosts went truly out of their way to make our stay extra special. We really enjoyed waking up to the ocean views, kayaking on the bay and spending time up at the top of the lighthouse. We would definitely recommend staying here!

    Meredith2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The lighthouse is a very special place and was one of our favorites during our 3 weeks in Nova Scotia. Rosella and John are wonderful hosts, easy to communicate with and always available for questions and tips. We only had 2 nights but we found everyting we needed for the stay. We did not have the time to use all the available thinks like the Weber grill on the terrace or the canoes to scout the sea. This is really a place to calm down. The interior design is beautiful and perfectly fit to the whole nice atmospere in the kitchen/living room. You always have the view over the sea and there is also an white-headed sea eagle flying around. We never saw one from such a short distance. Very impressive. I can strongly recommend this place. We had a wonderful and relaxed time and we plan to come back but then for a longer time. Thanks a lot Rosella and John for sharing this place with other people :-)

  • Melissa's cottage is a perfect little home for anyone visiting the Sydney area who doesn't want the downtown hotel experience. It was impeccably clean, nicely furnished and decorated and very comfortable! We especially loved being greeted by Melissa's beagle and having lovely horses grazing in the little pasture behind the cottage. It's a quiet, peaceful spot with easy access to Sydney and Sydney River where we attended Celtic Colours concerts and enjoyed a few great meals. We also took a day trip to Glace Bay for a nice lunch and enjoyable visits to the Coal Miner's Museum and the Heritage Museum. Both hosts were friendly and welcoming.

  • Boutique hotels in San Francisco and Los Angeles could learn a thing or two from Shauna and Peter’s Place. I’m a clean freak and this place met my high standards, location is great for access to everything (car is a must in Sydney), and it’s very quiet. Shauna and Peter were easily accessible for any info required. Deserves a Michelin star!

    Kirk2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time staying in Shauna & Peter's suite! They were extremely accommodating and provided additional touches to their place that were really thoughtful. The suite itself was easy to find, easy to access, extremely clean, and had loads of bonus amenities. Shauna and Peter checked in on me during my stay and were extremely kind. The location was really convenient if you are visiting Membertou Trade & Convention Centre and close enough to downtown Sydney. Definitely would recommend staying here.

The location is very central and the privacy the unit affords was perfect. I had to extend my stay and their quick response made the process a stress-free breeze. I’d totally recommend staying here for some true east coast hospitality!

Completely renovated 2-bedroom, 560 sq. ft. located 20 metres from water on the Bras d'Or Lakes. Wrap-around deck, pine interior. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, 3-piece shower bathroom, water cooler, full sized fridge, stove, microwave. Wifi, smart TV and satellite included. Excellent cellular coverage. No additional fees for cleaning or extra guests. Minutes drive to: Beaver Cove Takeout: 2 Highland Village & pub: 20 Sydney & 4 golf courses: 30 Baddeck: 60 Cabot Links and Cliffs Golf: 90
Guests will have the entire cottage to themselves. None of the space is shared with anyone else. Guests have full access to the beach and fire pit. The Bras d'Or lake is actually an inland sea and is tidal, salt water. It provides excellent swimming, snorkelling and kayaking opportunities. The water is considerably warmer than the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is gravel so sandals or water shoes should be worn.
The cottage is located in a rural setting but all services are available within a 30 minute drive.
  • The Beachhouse is private, quiet and actually has a pretty central location for the area's activities. All you really need is provided. Between the Beachhouse and what you do on your stay, you will have a relaxing, restorative vacation. You can't ask for more than that. The innkeepers were easily contacted and deal with whatever your issue is very quickly. Will be back.

The beach house is well stocked with board games, beach blankets, Netflix, etc. Great BBQ and fire pit as well. Hosts were very attentive to our questions but they kept their distance and respected our privacy. Can't speak highly enough about this place.

The basement space is ideal for two people. Private entrance with all the amenities for a quiet comfortable stay. Walking trail through old growth hemlocks and yoga studio on site. We do have a large dog, Nelson. He is very friendly and loves to go for walks in the woods. We are conveniently located 10 minutes from the Newfoundland Ferry, 25 minutes to Baddeck and 25 minutes to Sydney. We are looking forward to meeting you and will do our best to make your stay enjoyable. Everyone is welcome!
There is a very unique straw bale constructed yoga studio on site and yoga classes are available for a fee. Big Bras d'or is a fishing village and the wharf is 3kms from Tsuga Place. Lobster season is from May 15-July 15 and the hosts can help you get a" feed " if you so desire. North Sydney is 15 minutes from site, where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and pharmacies .
The neighborhood of Big Bras d"Or is very community minded. We are situated on Boularderie Island which is surrounded by the Bras d"or Lakes. This inland sea of salt water lakes is very unique with beaches, rich fishing areas and pristine quietness. Many of the families in this area have been here for generations, and my own family has been here for 5 generations, originally from Scotland. You won't hear any traffic, noise or disturbances since we are situated at the end of a road and our driveway extends into the woods.
  • Nelson was a wonderful host, we showed up late at night but he greeted us in the morning with a bark, took us on a beautiful guided snowshoe through the woods, toured us around the property, and sent us on our way all the way down the driveway! We especially loved the yoga hut that David and Denise have on their property, it is one of a kind.

    Leanne & John2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third or fourth time staying with David and Denise's family, but our first at their house. The space was great for a night; we used it as a jumping-off point for further adventures on Cape Breton.

  • The most gorgeous view that you can imagine, privacy, clean, spacious and a gorgeous deck, barbecue and dining area. The only thing we missed enjoying was jumping off the dock for a swim as it was too cold. Warm and friendly people with good tips for travel that were useful. Add a nice location to access other areas from. Wish we had more time and that was after 3 nights.

  • You will be surrounded in private luxury with a stunning view of a world-class lake a mere coin toss from your bedroom window. A must to revisit!

One of three very secluded cottages at Big Hill Retreat. Experience peace and quiet in a wilderness setting. A very private cozy cabin for 2.
The Cozy A-Cabin is recommended for 2 people . The main floor includes Kitchen and living area and bathroom with shower (no tub). The wood stove along with the electric baseboard heat will keep it toasty warm on the coldest winter night. There's always plenty of firewood in the wood shed attached to the building. The stairs to the loft are steep but well designed and solid. There is a double bed in the loft. The kitchen is compact and simple but everything is there. There is a propane cook stove to the right of the sink. Enjoy the wilderness views for eating, sleeping or meditating.
This is one of 3 cottages here at Big Hill Retreat. It's the most secluded and private of our cottages with an expansive and beautiful pure wilderness view of the Cape Breton Highlands.
  • Fantastic cabin and host. Will stay at the A-Cabin during my next cabot trail road trip.

    Andrew2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at A-Cabin. The view from the cabin is amazing and the trails around the property were beautiful. The cabin had everything we needed. Thanks to the hosts for the wonderful stay.

  • You search the silence? Then go for it. Terry's hospitality is absolutely great. The house itself is very cozy, very silent....we loved it there. The trails belonging to the property are amazing as well. Might be a challenge to get to the house in Winter. :-) Thanks a lot, such a great place!

  • We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. Terry was very friendly and always available if needed. Check in process was a breeze, the place was cozy and clean. The view from the cabin is breath taking, the fire pit outside is a much appreciated added touch, as well the fireplace indoors helped keep us cozy in cool nights. There was ample wood for the fire available. We used the BBQ for our meals, had drinks on the patio under the stars, made a fire outdoors and listened to the crickets. The location is so close to the Cabot Trail - you couldn’t ask for a better spot. My partner and I eloped during our vacation and had such a memorable experience, we plan to come back again with our two pups who also had a great time. Highly recommended!

  • We loved the place, very warm and cozy. We had everything we needed, the view was beautiful and it was so peaceful! It's a short drive to Baddeck, so a good place to explore Cape Breton and the Cabot trail. Highly recommended.

    Joachim2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant stay in the A-Cabin. As the listing mentions, the cabin is clean and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the tranquility. It is possible to walk in the trails that leave directly from the cabin. The cabin is also well located for day trips around Cape Breton.

    Laurie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin is exactly as described. It is the perfect place for a couple who wants to be for themselves, just bring your provisions and forget about the rest of the world (the nearest place to Buy groceries is 12km away). There is no luxery, but the equipment is sufficient. There is a pond in the property which is wonderful for swimming. The trails give some "wilderness " feeling (but bring good bug repellant). Terry is a very discreet host, but always available if needed. We spend 9 days and will happily come agan.

Year-round cozy nautical 2 bedroom cottage perched on a small rise over looking magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Sydney Harbour. We are across the water from downtown Sydney, the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, the Big Fiddle and the Sydney Board Walk. It is a great location for day trips around Cape Breton and is under 10 minutes to all essential amenities.
Built as a summer cottage and later converted to a year round residence. This small home still has a cozy cottage feel. One thing that remained consistent through the years is the fantastic views of the Sydney harbour. There is always something to "sea".
There is no public transit in the area
  • Deborah is an amazing host. She kept in touch with us all weekend to make sure things were running smoothly and offered to help out if needed. Her cottage is the perfect size, very well kept, clean, and stocked. Great location, and beautiful view of the river from her home. I would recommend this cottage to all travellers.

  • Deborah is an amazing host who cares very much about her guests. The cottage was very comfortable and clean. Deborah did all she could to ensure we had everything and were comfortable. I will definitely be back.

  • We were in Sydney for work meetings and needed a place to stay over night. Deborah’s place was great - good location, good space, and great layout for sharing with a colleague.

  • My husband and I stayed at the nautical cottage with my two small children and my parents. The cottage was great for our whole family - well stocked with everything we needed and very well organized. The entire space was spotless and the location was convenient and easy to find. The value exceptional for accommodating all six of us. We would definitely stay here again!

The perfect home-base for exploring Cape Breton, or a clean and comfortable seaside retreat, MacLeod Cove is a 3-bedroom winterized cottage on the Bras d'Or, Cape Breton's beautiful inland sea. Enjoy ocean views and semi-private cove, within 25 minutes drive of Baddeck, North Sydney (Newfoundland ferry terminal), and the Cabot Trail. The cottage is also very private and surrounded by pristine natural environments of forest, creek and cove. Wildlife sightings are common both on land and in the sea. The cottage is fresh and clean with new paint, flooring, appliances and furniture.
We inherited this home from my mother who was a smoker but it has been a strictly smoke-free space since February of 2017. In order to make it clean and comfortable both for our family of non-smokers as well as for you, we removed or cleaned all furniture. We replaced all upholstered furniture, beds, bedding, towels and rugs. We removed all carpeting and replaced it with new carpet or vinyl flooring. We washed every surface, every outlet, and all fixtures. We also replaced the fridge and stove, as well as all of the small appliances. We primed and then painted all of the walls. We have a house keeper who will ensure that the windows are opened, and the cottage is freshly cleaned prior to your arrival with clean linens on the beds, and floors and counters freshly sanitized.
This is very much a private retreat into nature. Our neighbours on one side are about 100 feet away and on the other side, are across our small valley. For the most part, you can't see any neighbours either from the house or the cove. Wildlife is common: many species of birds, fox and other animals populate the area. It is not uncommon to spot a seal swimming by from the cove. The nearest towns are 20 minutes drive or about 25 miles in either direction, so a little planning ahead is required in order to have supplies and groceries on hand. There is an excellent seafood restaurant very nearby - about 8 minutes by car, across the bridge. Gas and Tim Hortons coffee are a little closer as well - about 15 minutes away by car. Within a short drive of the house are long beaches for walking, as well as a natural fresh water fall with a pool for (very chilly) swimming. The house sits directly on the sea, at the base of Kelly's mountain. In the fall, the colours on the mountain are spectacular. The 2 nearest towns are Baddeck and North Sydney. Baddeck is a very popular a picturesque town with a beautiful lighthouse, shops, galleries, many restaurants and both an excellent museum and golf course. The nearest medical center is in Baddeck. North Sydney is a port town with all the necessities: large grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. It is also the location of the Newfounland Ferry docks. An hour away is the much larger port city of Sydney that has all of the amenities as well as the airport which is the only entry point to Cape Breton for travelers arriving by commercial aircraft.
  • Fantastic place and amazing value for what you get - great location and would definitely return there again

  • Very clean. The house is as pictured. Excellent location for Celtic Colours festival.

    Benjamin2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy little cottage made for the perfect fall get away. It had everything we needed to cook meals, it was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Getting there was no problem with google maps. There are also some really nice hiking trails within a 30 minute drive. We loved the beautiful view and sitting on the deck watching the water. There isn’t any wifi at this cottage, but we found we didn’t need it. Cell phone reception was perfectly fine! This is a lovely and very relaxing spot, would go back for sure!

    Brittany2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cottage. You will have great views of the water. The kitchen has everything you need. There are nice decorator touches throughout the home. The cottage was very clean. We found the location to be very convenient for our itinerary. We wanted, of course, to do the Cabot Trail, but also see Louisbourg. This location was a good compromise. You will feel like you are in the woods ( which you are), but amenities are not far away. Follow Sheila’s suggestions for the 2 cafes. They were great. If I am fortunate to be able to return to Cape Breton Island, I would definitely like to stay here again.

    Susan2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a truly beautiful, secluded location above a cove which can be accessed down a steep path to a small beach. There is a large deck area which looks out to the water, a gas BBQ, and a line for hanging washing. Inside the house is tastefully furnished throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped but note there is no microwave oven. Downstairs is a lounge with an amazing selection of dvds for movie nights. Louisbourg Fortress is only about an hours drive and it is well worth planning a whole day for your visit. Baddeck is a pretty town beside the lake. Hurricane Dorian prevented us from travelling further afield. Sheila really is a super host - she allowed us to stay an unplanned extra night as we were advised not to drive in the aftermath of the hurricane. We would fully recommend Macleod Cove as an outstanding place to stay when visiting Cape Breton.

    Tony2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place was gorgeous! Easy communication and check in was the icing on the cake. Everything was as expected, and close to everything we wanted to do and see during our stay.

    Michelle2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a great place to use as home base for day exploring from Baddeck to Louisbourg and the areas central to The Big Bras d'Or lakes. This is it. It is immaculate, well appointed and with a great kitchen for any range of meal. Morning coffee on the deck is super quiet and serene, it was like living in the Canadian wilds but just a quick drive out to the noisy Trans Canada Highway 105 and people/places/things.

  • Loril's place was a great space for a mini retreat in the Highlands. Beautifully decorated and a good location for a hiking trip.

    Esther2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, great host, ideal location to explore a lot of the Cabot Trail during the day. Quiet in the evenings with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. Loril was very responsive. I would definitely recommend!

  • We had an excellent stay at Loril's place on the Cabot Trail. The place is very stylish and well-appointed, with all the appliances and cooking supplies you'd need. She is well situated for touring the Cabot Trail. Heed her warning about proximity to gas and grocery though! As you pass through Baddeck, you are entering a bit of a food and gas dessert.

    David2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Superior place to stay. Spacious, comfortable, lovely setting, gracious host, lots of books to make up for poor internet reception in the area. Recommend highly.

  • Beautiful cabins, private area. Lots of yard space for the dogs. Wooded area great for birdwatching and other wildlife

    Annika2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a private place to stay on Cabot Trail, look no further. Convenient to highland trails, lobster supper in Baddeck, fabulous scenery...and much more!

    Catherine2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loril’s place is located along a quieter part of the Cabot trail. It had everything we needed for our 2 day stay including a charcoal BBq. We brought our own portable propane bbq. Her place was very clean, tastefully decorated farmhouse style and bed was very comfortable. She also had a supply of books games and puzzles. There was no TV but the wifi worked great. We were gone all day and home around supper time. Lots of hiking trails around. Loril was quick to answer any questions we had and supplied us with information about the area. I would definitely recommend this place to rent Michele and Dwayne

Enjoy your holiday in central location of Cape Dauphin at the base of Kelly's Mountain, in newly built beach house. This location is close to the many festivals throughout the Island. A 30 min drive to Baddeck, 20 min drive to Gaelic College and start of the Cabot trail. A 30 min drive to North Sydney where you can get groceries and supplies. This beach house is located in an area that is a piece of heaven.
  • What a beautiful view! We loved staring out the window into the ocean and the little bay, and walking down to the beach to explore with our toddler. Richard was quick to respond to our question about wifi, which was appreciated. We drove Cabot trail one day and stayed in the next. Very nice location 🤩

    Nancy2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice "bunk house" with great view of sound (bay?). Upstairs loft (3 single beds & bath) has ladder type access - not good for older folks or young kids. Downstairs bedroom with double bed is no problem for seniors (also bath downstairs). Unit is about 5 miles down a dirt road. Road is pretty good but there are some rough patches. Normal cars are no problem but will get pretty dirty.

    Ellen2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Extremely clean and situated in a beautiful spot, this place is a real stand out. Great base for exploring the island.

  • If you’re looking for a retreat that is quiet and peaceful, this is the place. It is absolutely perfect. We enjoyed the scenic views of the ocean and pond from the deck or in the living area - the beavers were especially entertaining! Beach and pond access is just a short walk down a cleared maintained path. The house itself is absolutely quaint and the hospitality is wonderful. Highly recommend.

  • Meta is an extraordinarily attentive hostess, and I thoroughly enjoyed being cared for so kindly. The house has generously sized rooms and no doubt was built by a prosperous owner. Currently it’s being extensively renovated (a process I’ve lived through, but might surprise some). For me it’s wonderful to see such a fine building being given new life. Great coffee and wholesome breakfasts made for a fine start to my days, and the location is very central to good restaurants and downtown. The stay suited me beautifully, much appreciated!

We are offering ‘suite’ accommodations in our newly revamped basement. Our space is set up as a bedroom suite with sitting area that includes a double sofa bed, eating nook, full kitchen & full bathroom. We chose the name ‘Little Geata’ to emphasize that our modest abode is situated in the quaint community of North Sydney, also dubbed ‘The Gateway to Newfoundland’.
We are 2 km from marine atlantic aka Newfoundland ferry, also 5 min drive to Seaview Golf & Country Club!! we also provide a list of great restaurants and hiking trails & beautiful beaches.

  • This little log cabin is in fact quite spacious with a nice living area, kitchenette, and sleeping space. The bathroom, while small, does not feel cramped. And the location couldn't be better. It is in a beautifully secluded spot right on the Sydney River. The view is very pretty. In the cabin is a book of information about the area with coupons, brochures, notes, and pamphlets. It's also in an incredibly convenient location for sightseeing in lower Cape Breton. I would absolutely stay here again.

This small, non smoking, cozy cabin is a great base camp from which to explore Cape Breton Island. It can comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 children on the futon. From here, travellers are equidistant from the Cabot trail and all things West, to the Fortress of Louisbourg and other sites in Cape Breton. Or simply stay "home" and walk to the private beach where you can go Geocaching by kayak! The views from the property and beach are sunfilled and relaxing. Please contact the host on the day of arrival as check in can often be earlier than 5pm as well there are times that the check out is flexible.
Although not central in the urban sense, Boularderie Island is central to Cape Breton Island, thus ideal for touring all four counties. Here is the breakdown: Start of the Cabot Trail: 12 minutes Baddeck: 22 minutes St. Anns Gaelic College: 12 minutes North Sydney: 15 minutes Sydney: 30 minutes Louisbourg: 55 minutes
  • The pictures don’t do it justice! This cabin is the cutest. Really modern rustic decor makes it super cozy. Hosts provided all kinds of extra perks like coffee, treats and really interesting books. There’s also games, cards and of course the kayaks. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the view. Great hosts, great cabin and great stay.

  • A great cabin in a great location. Easy access from cabin to the Trans Canada 105. The cabin was warm and cosy, with a supremely comfortable bed and excellent shower. Jody is a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we needed. We would heartily recommend this cabin as a base for exploring Cape Breton

  • Such a relaxing place, we loved our stay. Great fun to be able to take the kayaks out for a quick paddle before sunset. Huge comfortable bed. Would definitely recommend, one of the best air bnbs we have stayed in!

  • September 10-13,2019 The Woodsy Cabin was everything we hoped it would be and more. The location was secluded, yet close enough to amenities (restaurants, etc.) and a great "jump off" point to begin our Cabot Trail adventure. The space itself is warm, comfortable and inviting and the bed....perfect. We were greeted with a lovely welcome note and pleasantly surprised with goodies of popcorn, chocolates and such. Super sweet and appreciated. To have popcorn by the campfire our first night, looking up at the star filled sky was pretty special. Jody and Parker provided everything needed in the event we planned on staying put i.e. utensils, hot plate, grill, coffee maker, etc. The home was clean, thoughtfully decorated and just a nice space to be in. We particularly appreciated the books by the bedside sharing the local history. It's those added touches that add up. The front deck is perfect for morning coffee or evening glass of wine even if bundled up in a blanket. And I would be remiss to not mention the kayaks!! We spent a morning kayaking to Seal Island bridge, past the lighthouse and back. It was serene; the water calm. I would recommend the Woodsy Cabin. Jody was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any question I had. Thank you, Jody & Parker for a memorable stay.

  • A great sweet little spot to rest and enjoy a comfortable home and great bed! The cat is especially adorable although she is well and easily able to not go into your space, we missed our kitty so it was lovely to have an opportunity to enjoy this house cat.

  • Hillary is really nice. House is clean and neat. And it is very quite and lovely place to spend some quality time.

  • Excellent value—blackout shades on the windows, plenty of warm blankets, Nescafe and tea, lovely updated bathroom and shower, sweet little cat to welcome you home, a desk to work at (and solid WiFi), a place to open my suitcase (seriously makes a difference!), easy keypad access to house, easy street parking, and lots of privacy, as Hillary was working much of the time I was there. Grateful to spend a cozy week here while visiting family! 💛

This is a guest cottage on our 70 acre property located just east of the town of Baddeck on the far side of Beinn Bhreagh. It is a 10 minute drive into town or a 15 minute drive to the Gaelic College in Saint Anns. It is a studio style cabin with Pine interior and amazing Lake views. Located on top of Long Hill Road, facing the Great Bras D’Or, on Beinn Bhreagh Mountain, across the Bay from Baddeck , Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. This is a unique Cape Breton Island property.
The property has approximately 1700 feet of shoreline along the Lake itself. A 1/2 mile long steep winding scenic trail takes you to the shore where a sand and gravel private beach stretches from point to point. It is a moderately difficult hike. The salt water lake is warm for swimming generally from Mid July to late August. Wear water shoes as you must pass the rocky entrance to get to the sandy bottom swim area. Once there you may wish to walk the shores and enjoy ponds, eagles, seabirds, fish breaking, deer grazing and sail and power boats off the shore. The beach is prime for rocks and shell collecting. The south facing cottage has stunning views, a king size bed, wifi and TV. Recreation possibilities on property include kayaking, canoeing, swimming, sailing and hiking in spring, summer and fall as well as snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter. Ten minute drive to the village of Baddeck & Alexander Graham Bell Museum and Bell Bay Golf Course and just over an hour to the Cabot Links at Inverness. SKIING: Bring your cross country skis, snow shoes and skates.
The cottage is located close to the Village of Baddeck. Baddeck is a village in Victoria County, Nova Scotia, Canada. This village is seventy-eight kilometres west of Sydney. It is Victoria County's shire town and is situated on the northern shore of Bras d'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island. It is situated in the heart of Cape Breton Island, considered to be the beginning and end of the world famous Cabot Trail. The name Baddeck is derived from the Mi'kmaq term "Abadak" which has been translated as "place with an island near" Baddeck is home to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, which houses a museum commemorating the work of former resident Alexander Graham Bell. The cottage is and hour and a half drive to the Louisbourg National Historic site, and 40 minutes from the Cape Breton Highlands National Park where there is fantastic hiking.
  • The view is outstanding and there is a lovely path down to the water. The cottage was cozy and comfortable. We would stay there again!

    Emily2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing spot. The cabin was simple but had everything you needed, was spotlessly clean, and elegantly furnished. The deck has lovely views that were wonderful for a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. The beach you can walk to down the little path was what made our stay. We canceled all our hiking plans and spent our time there instead swimming and finding crabs and starfish. Theresa and Dave made check in easy and straightforward. Beautiful place, hope to visit again!

    Sari2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect retreat for our weekend away to attend a wedding and celebrate our anniversary. The cottage was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed to create a meal there and enjoy the stunning surroundings. The bed was SO comfortable. It was an added bonus that our trusty pooch was also welcome. Thank you so very much and we hope to be back again soon.

    Tracy2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Overwhelming view. Super comfortable bed, 6 on 5 ! Peace, silence, tranquillity. The kitchen is simply equipped, but that's enough for breakfast and lunch. Perfect to have a break of urban life.

    Jacques A2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had an amazing time at Theresa and Dave's place. Everything exceeded our expectations and we couldn't have asked for more. They were quick to respond and otherwise gave us our privacy. We cannot wait to come back!

    Qui2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is exactly as advertised. Except the view is even better than the pictures in real life! There is a path down to the shore and the shore is amazing and long. Good for any fishing/swimming/water activities at all. The hike down is not bad at all but you will want water for going back up. It is all uphill on the way back and you will want water breaks. The bed is comfortable and massive. Big Deck with a BBQ and seating/table to eat with the view. Bathroom was clean with a modern shower. The road is not bad at all to get to the cottage someone earlier said falsely that it is not a good road for a small car. This is not true I made out just fine in A little Hyundai accent. It’s a normal dirt road for a brief period well maintained.

    Mike2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, quiet night's sleep. Beautiful, refreshing views. Clean accommodations. Fascinating history in the local area! Would highly recommend and would stay here again. Thank you, Theresa!

  • The cabin is wonderful! Clean and quiet. Amazing location and view of the lake. Perfect for exploring the fall colours on the Cabot Trail during the day and coming back to enjoy the fire in the wood stove at night. Prompt communication with easy check in/out. Would totally recommend!

House is close to the airport (10.1km) & Dominion Beach Provincial park. Great ocean view and nice outdoor space in a quiet neighborhood. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). Large patio with fire pit and wood. Dining area seats 6 comfortably, with room & chairs for extra guests. Large upstairs family room. Both bedrooms have a single and double bed, one couch unfolds to a double bed. Bright modern kitchen & main floor laundry.
Eagles, hawks and fox are sometimes seen. Deer sometimes graze nearby. During lobster fishing season, boats are just offshore. We'll leave binoculars and a spotting scope for viewing boats and wildlife.
    Is on a no-through road.
  • Amazing. As always, the perfect location with a perfect view.

  • Amazing clean house and bill was very helpful to respond quick to a late night issue!

    Yun2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Of the three places we stayed during our Celtic Colours tour, Bill’s place was my favourite. It is a beautiful home; super clean, comfortable and toasty warm (it got a bit chilly at night!). It’s location was central enough to easily travel to Louisburg, Sydney and Glacé Bay where our venues were. And when we were relaxing back at home we watched the cruise ships through the thoughtfully provided telescope, or the family of deer that would come by and graze in the front grass. When I had an admittedly stupid question, Bill texted me back immediately. I would definitely want to stay here again if I return to the area, and highly recommend it to others.

    Kimberley2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Bill’s place! Stunning ocean views, well furnished and very comfortable home, quick and easy responses. Thank you for your hospitality! We will be back!

    Donna2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I rented Bill's place to use on our wedding weekend. It was the perfect spot for getting ready the day of, with such amazing views! Bill's place was very spacious, clean and comfortable. I would for sure recommend this spot, especially for any brides and/or grooms looking to rent a place for the night before their wedding.

    Kate2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This home is a treasure well worth discovering. From the breathtaking views to the comfortable beds and well appointed kitchen, everything you need is within your reach. The patio is a wonderful place to relax by the fire with a drink in hand. Or you can walk down to the ocean and pick cranberries. It will be a place you’ll always remember. We will be back next year!

    O
Our big old house is a hundred years old. It is on two lovely acres with gardens, next to a brook and near some woods, but is just a pleasant walk to the heart of North Sydney. It is a great base from which to explore spectacular Cape Breton Island. The house has many common rooms which you are welcome to use, but we live here with our cat and dog and sometimes kids, and it is not always kept to the standards of a commercial BNB. We're renovating room by room, so it isn't consistent, but it is an interesting, welcoming and beautiful home.
Two pretty acres with a garden and places to relax outdoors. There is a beautiful brook with a ravine bordering the property. On the other side are acres of woods with walking trails. A twenty minute walk to the ocean, shops and restaurants.
  • This is a great place to stay and the hospitality is above and beyond what I was expecting.

  • Chris and Nancy’s home is a magical spot in North Sydney. Chris took in me, two cats and beagle for the night. The family poodle, Ray Charles, was friendly and enthusiastic to meet my dog, Starbucks. Chis was warm and hospitable and full of Cape Breton charm and fun. We had a great stay!

    Kathy2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • It's a great place to stay if you are coming first time to Sydney. Nancy is such a great person and lovely too and will help you with things you need to know when you are a first timer in the city. She cooks really well. People will definitely enjoy the stay in her home.

    Ashwin2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Nancy's place for a single night while on my trip to Cabot Trail. Even though it was for just a single night, I did enjoy my stay. Nancy and Chris were really amazing hosts. Nancy welcomed me and offered Christmas dinner, as I am a vegetarian, I had some very nice veggies and a great cup of tea. I had a very good chat with both Nancy and Chris, and they guided me on the routes for my trip. I would definitely recommend the place for anyone who visits Sydney and plan to drive through Cabot Trail. The place was neat and cozy. Thank you Nancy and Chris for the great hospitality.

  • House was very nice and clean, pleasantly surprised at how nice the tv was and that Netflix was available. The only downside to our stay was being woken up by people entering the other half of the house, from downstairs it sounds like they’re entering the section of the house we were in. (Listing stated that we would have the entire house to our selves. Though they didn’t stay long.) All and all a nice place to stay.

  • Thank you George & Patricia for an amazing last minute experience with your listing. The response time was quick and helpful. It was a last minute overnight visit however I can't say enough about the hospitality. I will definitely be in touch when back in Sydney again. The house was the most quaint and cozy place. The neighbourhood was quiet. There was nothing left undone. Fridge was stocked and beans were in the brewer for morning. Thanks again

  • George’s place was easy to get to. The key pad was easy to use to enter and the place was lovely! A few stairs to get onto the nice spacious patio into the unit and then a set of stairs to get from the kitchen/sitting room to the bedroom/TV/shower. It was perfect for a couple and there was lovely touches everywhere. We loved the bed - the linens and towels were so soft!! Made it hard to get out of bed in the morning. Wish we could’ve stayed longer, we will be looking to see if George’s place is available next time we go!

  • Our stay was exceptional! The place was in a great location, clean and had everything we could possibly need! The decor was just like out of a magazine and they went above and beyond to make it just like home. Thank you Melissa and Carson for the excellent, first experience of staying in an Airbnb!

  • The Rancher on Cottage is an incredible find! We stayed here for two weeks in Nova Scotia and it truly felt like a home away from away. The place offers a separate guest suite that is sparkling clean with modern decorations. It is close to the main hub of Sydney which boasts incredible restaurants and a beautiful waterfront. Melissa and Carson are amazing hosts - quick to respond and very generous in helping with whatever we needed. Would recommend this place to anyone staying in Sydney!

    Tiahna2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place in a quiet neighborhood. A well appointed kitchen for an extended stay and a deck to enjoy morning coffee or evening cocktails, weather permitting. Sadly, we were there for only two nights. Melissa and Carson thought of many little details to make a traveler feel at home. Clean, quite and relaxing; we'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

    Lisa2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa and Carson's place was very clean, stylish and comfortable. It had everything I needed for my stay, as well as countless extra touches that were so thoughtful and helpful! Highly recommend staying here while in Sydney!

    Alexa2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! 5 minute walk from downtown and easy parking in the driveway. Private access to the back suite which is totally private. The place was clean and tidy and stylish and we enjoyed staying here. Melissa was quick to bring us anything we requested for the kitchen. There were plenty of towels and soap. Great patio off the kitchen to hang out outside and a bbq too! Comfy bed too. Would recommend staying here - a great find!

  • The house is very good. We were a family visiting the Fortress of Louisbourg. Near the site and the center of the village ..

    Mario2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you're going to the Louisbourg area, this is a wonderful place to stay. Everything was super clean and comfortable, check in was a breeze, the location is great (it's about as close as you can get to the Fortress), and the overall experience was just wonderful. I was there with a small film crew shooting at the Fortress, and we would happily stay again!

    Paul2019-08-28T00:00:00Z

  • Angelo was very helpful and friendly! His cabins are cozy, secluded, and each have a unique decoration/theme. It was right on the water and in a beautiful area with fall colored leaves. I definitely recommend these cabins and will hope to be back one day!

    Cody2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and the cabins are beautiful! Highly recommend!

    Courtney2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Angelo’s space was magical! An absolutely enchanted experience. The cabins sit in a beautiful wooded area on the water. The structures are beautiful - the cabins each unique, the wash house very clean and the cooking space a great place to hang. He has a great observation deck. My girls and I had a blast and enjoyed all the thoughtful touches! Angelo offered great tips on nearby activities. We will be back.

    Karly2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • What can we really say to put this creation into words that will do it justice. The cabins are modernly quaint. The view from the dock stunning. Angelo has put so much thought and love into every detail of the spaces. From the keychain, to the stained glass, the ironwork on the lofts, curtains, their tie backs. There is a guitar in every cabin with some instruction, be sure to pick it up and give it a try! Also, be sure to ask to listen to Angelo's music, you will certainly appreciate it. We could go on and on, but you really just need to see and experience this for yourself and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Thank you Angelo!
