Places to stay in Barnum

Places to stay in Barnum
A nice, quiet space with a cabin feel and a large fenced in yard. Coffee and tea are included in your stay. TV includes local channels and Netflix.
Quiet place, cabin feel, close to the exit to the interstate. Close to Lazy Bear Grill in Barnum and 5 miles from Moose Lake (restaurants, brewery, groceries). Across highway from Bear Lake, easy access. 2 minute drive to the Munger Trail.
Small town Barnum has only a population of 613 people. There's a Mobile gas station along with the Lazy Bear Café and the Chickadee coffee house all close by to my house. There's the Barnum Muni (bar), the fair grounds, another little café, and close to the Willard Munger Trail.
  • This was my second stay at Staci's this year. As before, the space provided everything I needed and was cozy and clean. Staci is very hospitable and easy to talk to - I truly consider her a friend. She is more than willing to interact with guests as well as allowing any privacy a guest might desire. I highly recommend Staci's large basement unit since it is a great jumping off spot for visiting upper Minnesota - both summer and winter.

  • Staci's place was very clean and cozy! She has a great DVD collection and we had a fun time watching horror movies in the nice living room/media area outside our bedroom. Super cute spot and a quick drive up to Duluth and Jay Cooke state park. Check-in was very easy. I recommend Staci's place! :)

    Jackie2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Staci was very helpful. We had the whole lower level to ourselves which was carpeted and cozy. It has a living room/lounging area which was great. The mattress was very comfortable - felt like a dense, foam mattress.

  • This home is beautiful and in a great location to make a quick trip north. It was easy to find and close to a great coffee shop. I loved all the space in the basement and it was nice to unwind watching tv after a busy day.

    Ben2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Staci is amazing and so is her dog Grizz they are both welcoming.

    Sam2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Typically I think about Airbnbs as some spare room in a small apartment in the city. Not so with Staci's place. It is a little out of the way, but exactly as advertised: an entire furnished basement, with bed, bath, and living room. My partner and I gasped when we realized where it was, too. The house itself has a stunning view of the forested lake across the highway. If you're looking for a spot to day-trip to Duluth or hike the parks in the area, you'll be comfortable here. Oh, and Staci provided a coffee maker for us, which was truly a cherry on top.

    Noah2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Staci’s place is a great little oasis of comfort close to Duluth! Would definitely recommend staying here if you are going up North!

    Katie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Have full basement to yourself. Very comfy, loved the bed!

    Bill2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cute place to stay! It was so quiet and clean! Definitely would go there again!

    Alanna2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very secluded in the woods. So many trees! Would not recommend staying here if you plan on driving back and fourth to Duluth... it is quite a drive. Other than that, the cabin was very simple and clean. Enjoyed watching a movie one night with the movies they provided. Amazing place for a bonfire.

    Erin2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to rest and relax then this cabin in the woods would be perfect for you. A beautiful setting where all you hear is the rustle of the leaves and bird chirp here and there. Quite peaceful and calming. The cabin itself is clean and spacious with everything you need from a full size refrigerator and stove to pots and pans, separate bedroom and large living/dining area. Tricia was a wonderful host who always responded quickly and made check in a breeze. She was so very kind and shared some wonderful produce from her garden too! We had 3 great days there. Should we ever be back in the area we certainly would look to book Tricia’s cabin in the woods again.

    Pamela2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a scenic and private getaway, Tricia is the perfect host for you. She was absolutely fantastic.

Located on 4 acres with 300 feet of lake shore Remodeled house on Island Lake in northern Minnesota; with boating, fishing, canoeing. kayaking, swimming optional. House has kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Couch opens up into a bed. You will enjoy an outstanding view of the lake, and the sounds of wild life in our private, restful setting. A fire pit is also available for enjoying our evening nights.
We are 42 miles from Duluth and amazing Lake Superior and 90 miles from the Twin cities. Easy access to ATV and snowmobile trails. Excellent small game and Deer hunting near by.
We live next door so if you need something we can help you. We have a canoe and kayak available for your use, if so desired. Swimming and dock use are also available for your stay with us. There will also be a sample of Gloria's famous chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins in your welcome basket. Muskie Lake Cabin is located on a four acre parcel in a quiet, wooded area with deer and other wildlife on Island Lake with fishing. Dave caught two twelve pound northerns this spring off our dock.
  • This is a GREAT guest house with wonderfully kind hosts. The hosts live in a house that is yards away from the guest house, so you have the benefit of genuine privacy within the guest house, coupled with the convenience of having hosts very close in the event a need would arise to hail them. I stayed there in the winter (January), so it was obviously quite cold outside. I was gone during the day and kept the thermostat down pretty low. When we'd get to the guest house in the evening we'd turn the thermostat up and it would warm up really, really fast. There is a big window with a beautiful view of the lake. It's in a gorgeous location, and only 2 or 3 miles away from Moose Lake. Excellent location! Everything works, place was very clean, beds were comfortable, bedding was great, towels were soft, etc. I stayed at the guest house for the better part of a week with my 27 year old daughter (we were in town to spend time with a close family member who was at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake) and both my daughter and I absolutely loved being able to unwind in the evening at the guest house. I would stay at this place again and/or recommend it to others without hesitation.

  • David is awesome! Extremely helpful and kind. The place is very clean and cute! We will definitely be back, probably in the summer time to enjoy the sunshine and amazing view of the Lake!

    Madison2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • David was awesome! Went out ice fishing on the lake he came down walked around with us. They live in the house right next door and was very accommodating. Look forward to visiting in the summer.

    Evan2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place was perfect for our stay! The house was cozy and beautifully decorated for Christmas when we arrived. There were homemade muffins and a clean, warm house. My in-laws even got to see deer! Wonderful hospitality and memories we’ll treasure.

    Nicole2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and David was a great host. We were able to check in minutes after booking the place which was incredibly convenient!

    Amanda2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable and spacious, yummy homemade muffins for breakfast. Gorgeous lake view. Very clean and owners are super friendly!

    Lacy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location for a girls weekend getaway!! Close to state parks, excellent restaurants, and unique shopping...but best of all is the view from the house itself. AMAZING lake view with beautiful sunsets. So many nice extra touches from welcome cookies to a great fire pit, comfy beds, big fluffy towels...really made for a comfortable stay.

    Jennifer2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home! The view was beautiful and the home was easy to get to. It was just as descripted and communication with the host was very easy! The only downside during my stay was the weather! Regardless, I still had a wonderful stay!

Beautifully designed year-round home consisting of a renovated 1940's log cabin attached to a larger dwelling with two and a half baths, loft, living room and full kitchen. Swimming, boating, fishing are available in the summer. Ice fishing, snowshoeing are available in the winter. Abundant wild life in the area, beautiful sunsets, relaxing atmosphere with large windows looking out on lake-shore on south and east side of the house.
The space is adaptable depending on guests' desires and preferences. I will communicate regarding a booking to be sure that our place meets your expectations and needs. You are welcome to use the kitchen - and there is wood available for the wood stove - But please be careful. I ask that you take sheets off the bed when you are leaving - leave them on top of the bed along with any other linens you have used. Generally I will not be physically present during your stay, but can always text or call me with questions. And our guest hosts - the Mossbergs- are in the area and available for specific needs or questions.
This is a quiet neighborhood - most neighbors are seasonal and not present during the winter months. Moose Lake has some interesting places to visit - If you have time, the museum is worth your time - and I would recommend checking out Joe Jitter's - a coffeehouse on the main street of town - as well as The Lazy Moose Restaurant. Our place is well suited however for time away from the stress and “noise” of life in a busy urban area. Here you can relax, read, take walks, receive soothing calm from the beauty of nature that will surround you.
  • We had a great stay at Gracia's cabin! The cabin was sparkling clean. Loved the heated floors and the fireplace. A beautiful view from every window. Would definitely stay here again!

  • Clean, peaceful, beautiful view

    Sarah2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful lofted cabin on the lake with lots of natural light. Did some ice fishing and caught a bunch of crappie and perch. Host was very hospitable and quick to respond. Thank you.

    Joleen2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay at Gracia's place. Enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Great all around.

  • 5 stars! My son and I stayed here for the weekend during a hockey tournament. Everything about this place is exceptional including the communication with the host. I would love to experience it in the summer if I have the chance. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking into it. Even on overcast winter days the scenery was nice.

    Jason2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful river house! Feels like you’re relaxing at your grandma’s place. The house had everything we needed. Nice heating. Loved the fireplace

    연주2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful, comfortable home and we were able to truly relax and spend time together. Just what we needed and exactly as described.

    Trevor2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This space is really special, as were the hosts. We needed help figuring out the heated floor system, and the hosts were there 5 minutes after we called. There wasn’t a thing we needed or wanted that wasn’t provided. And the view! Right on the lake (going around 2 sides of the home). Snowed off and on during our stay, and huge windows everywhere to drink in nature. We’ll be back for sure! Vicky

The Great Lodge rooms are all newly-renovated either overlooking Little Hanging Horn Lake or the woods. The views out the giant windows are second to none and showcase wonderful sunsets. We are 110 miles north of Minneapolis just off Hwy. 35. Close enough, yet a world away. Come join us.
Woods View Room, recently updated, tall ceilings, 32" flat screen TV, two queen beds, seating area and a private bath with walk-in shower. Our most accessible room.
Tucked in the Northwoods, but still an easy drive to Duluth (30 miles) or Minneapolis (100 miles).
  • Quiet spot on a beautiful lake. The room was comfortable and clean. Nice amenities in the common areas like coffee, snacks, and DVDs . Also canoes and kayaks for taking out on the lake. Very peaceful spot!

    Katie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a hidden gem. Duluth was packed out for the weekend with Tall Ships, so we headed a little south and found this place. It was everything we needed, and a great price for the value. I highly recommend, and would stay here again! Thanks!

    Carolyn2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hanging Horn was great and I wish we had more time to check out everything. The rooms were very clean and cozy! Highly recommend staying here with the friendly staff and extra amnesties.

    Rachael2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely staff who came out to help me find the right building in the rain. Clean and comfortable room, breakfast provided to grab and go.

    E Rose2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Hanging Horn is a great getaway under 2 hours from the Twin Cities. This was our second time visiting. It is such a relaxing place and the hospitality is amazing. We were greeted kindly and promptly. The room was comfortable and clean. We love using the kayaks on the lake and watching the sunset. Breakfast on the way out of town was nice as we traveled further north. Thank you! Special place.

    Amy2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very cozy, friendly, clean. They had a few things for breakfast and offered us paddle boats and canoes to go explore the lake. Very friendly host that made us feel very welcome. I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

    Eric2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were warm, responsive, and accommodating. The rooms were modern and clean, and the coffee machine and stocked fridge in the lobby were a nice touch. Looking forward to checking out the restaurant when it opens!

    Josh2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here before Grandmas Marathon, it was the perfect peaceful and quiet night’s stay before a big race. They were kind enough to place breakfast out early for us, and our room was private, clean, and spacious. Use of the kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats was a nice touch that I wish we could have taken advantage of! The cabin is right on the lake, a really peaceful getaway.

  • We brought our kids up after a good snowfall. We were worried there wouldn’t be much to do. They had games we could play and also found us some sleds that the kids used everyday! We had such a great time!

    Miranda2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean quiet resort tucked into the woods. We checked in late and someone was there to meet us and get us to our room.

    Maryn2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a nice little resort. Unfortunately we were just passing through, and didn’t get the full experience, but it looked like could have been a fun place to enjoy some lake time. We did a small loop on a paddle boat just because we couldn’t pass that up, but wished we had more time for kayaking!

    Jaime2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely place was restful, quiet and peaceful. We got in late but enjoyed the lake, paddleboat and chapel tour before heading out the next day. The bed was comfortable which was welcome after our long drive.

    Joy2019-08-07T00:00:00Z

  • Nice clean place to stay with a very welcoming host. Great accommodations with a pretty view and decent continental breakfast.

    Leah2018-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this place is great and well thought out. Starting with the location to the the very well thought out amenities makes this place very cozy and comfortable. Al ot of it has been put on cruise control and self-serviced that gives you an impression that the hosts absolutely would like to respect your privacy and give you that feeling of 'Home'. There was a sitting area, needless to mention it was cozy, to a cute breakfast area where it had all the essentials items( not lavish) you would need to get by. The host suggested a food delivery place that would deliver right to your doorstep and that service was prompt and good as well. The resort's location- on one side is right by the lake and the thick woods makes it even more picturesque with all the Fall Colors, to just take a walk or even take some great pictures. My family and I absolutely loved it and would recommend this place to anyone who is wishing to spend some time in solitude away from the hustle and bustle. A big shout out to the hosts for really being a SUPER HOST.

  • What a wonderful place! I wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first time booking through airbnb. I was a little concerned when booking because I knew I wouldn't get in until after 9pm at night. However, there was no need to be concerned. Charlie, the resort manager, was there to greet us, show us to our room, the breakfast nook, and a supply of movies and DVDs for our use. We were able to make use of the canoe's from the resort and spent some time out on the lake taking in a breathtaking sunset! Besides canoes, they also have paddle boards, kayaks, and pedal boats! We stayed in room# 2 and woke to a beautiful sunrise over the lake. It was truly beautiful and relaxing! I will always seek out this place first when coming up North, simply due to the amenities, beautiful scenery, and excellent customer service! Thank you for a wonderful trip!

Enjoy a quiet getaway in a 1936 farmhouse on 35 wooded acres. Vintage charm combined with renovations that make for a calm and comfortable experience. Located 10 minutes from the Willard Munger State Trail, and just 12 minutes off I-35. Be in Duluth in 45 minutes, or stay and explore the woods outside our door. Take in the wildlife from the screened in porch, or sit at the fire pit for s'mores.
We are located on a dead-end gravel road, and are surrounded by trees. The guest room is upstairs, and two main-level bathrooms are available for use. In the winter, enjoy the sauna and the snowmobile trail that borders our property. *Although many updates have been made on our house, some are still in process.
Our neighborhood consists of trees, wildlife, and trails in the woods. We are on a dead-end gravel road, and it is very peaceful here.
  • This was a great experience on our way to Minneapolis from Thunder Bay. Barbara and Barry are lovely hosts and a have beautiful home that I definitely recommend staying at. The location is a great base whether you are going North or South. We had great conversations with our hosts. They also make a great breakfast and have the cutest dogs that will give you all the love :)

The bed and bedroom is top notch, and Barb and Barry make you feel at home. Their attention was superb and they were really interested in making us feel comfortable, at home and get us to know Northern Minnesota.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Barbara and Barry’s! They are kind, hospitable, and welcoming. Their 1930’s farmhouse is adorable, and their 2 doggies are lovable. They go above and beyond to be great hosts. Barry even made use breakfast!

  • Barbara and Barry are exceptionally hospitable hosts! The room was very nice and exactly what we needed for our stay, but the highlight of our time there was getting to know this wonderful couple! They are so full of joy and show such deep care for others. Their dogs are so sweet and friendly too! We really appreciated their intentionality while we were there and hope to connect again in the future!

Our lake home is located on Sturgeon Island on Sturgeon Lake which is accessed by an amazing old red covered bridge. The home sits on nearly two acres of private property on the north east side of Sturgeon Island. We own the land to the east of the home which is fully wooded providing tons of privacy to enjoy nature and our resident bald eagles! This is a truly unique property with plenty of space and privacy and relaxation.
The main floor has amazing lake views from almost every single room. Enjoy your morning coffee from the living room while watching for eagles or take it outside to our wrap around deck and three season screened in porch. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a large screen door to walk right out onto the lake front deck. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a pack and play for a little one. The lower level has a walk out patio with amazing lake views and a large sectional sofa with flat screen TV. You will also find a full bathroom and private Swedish Sauna large enough for 4-6 people. Finally the lower level includes a private bedroom with seating area and full size bed. The home is fully appointed with everything you need for your vacation. It has all the modern amenities like Google Home for music and Roku devices on all the tvs. The layout makes it perfect for multiple families to enjoy the lake but also plenty of space to spread out. We have a grill available for use outside as well as a paddle boat and canoe with life jackets. The FISHING on Sturgeon lake is amazing you will enjoy going out in the morning and coming back with dinner! We are also on a natural well with great drinking water! If you want an amazing quiet retreat on an awesome lake under two hours from the city this is your spot!
Lots of things to do and see in the area. We recommend checking out some of the local golf courses or grabbing a beer at Moose Lake Brewery! Skiing is also close by in Duluth.

  • Really enjoyed our stay at Skylor’s. We went in the winter, and loved the sauna and fireplace. It was secluded enough for privacy but near lots of good walking and hiking trails. Great amenities, cozy rooms, they gave us some local tips for things to do, and had great communication. Highly recommend!

  • The photos do not capture the full charm and beauty of this place. A perfect cozy getaway from the cities!

  • Very comfortable place for a quiet get away! Skylor did a nice job answering any questions we had.

    Karla2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for a winter weekend! Clean and cozy, fireplace and sauna, open kitchen, nice amenities - and Skylor is the most kind and responsive host you could hope for! Water pressure is generally weak and sensitive due to the on-site well, however, this is advertised in the listing and in nice notes in the bathrooms, and it adds to the charm of living the lake life. Great cabin in a beautiful spot - highly recommended!

  • Really great spot right on the lake! Has all the amenities you'd want for a family getaway, comfy beds, extremely clean, fully appointed kitchen, smart TV in every room, great outdoor space as well. Convenient to the Twin Cities (just under 2 hours) and close to I-35 (8-10 minutes). Would definitely come back!

  • This is a beautiful four bedroom place on Sand Lake. Wonderful setting with great sunrise views of the lake from inside and outside on the large deck or dock with seat at the end. The deck has a large table with seating for six. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might ever need. Easy to get to and fairly private location the the lake. Great for walks in the morning and evening as well. Easy drive to Moose Lake, MN for groceries, gas, etc just a couple miles away. Had a great time staying with the family for a wedding nearby. Thanks much to Kevin and Betty (super hosts).

  • This accommodation was really exceptional. Friendly, helpful hosts - a gorgeous lake with two families of loons and plenty of kayaks, canoes, paddle boats and paddle boards for all guests to enjoy. The lodge was sparkling clean, and every amenity was provided. Simple breakfast foods, but plenty of them. It was an oasis and we didn’t want to leave! Immaculate rooms, attractive lodgings, and the lake at our fingertips — we’ll return if and when we’re back in Minnesota. Highly recommended.

    Lois2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Hanging Horn is a slice of paradise. Our room in the lodge was beautiful and comfortable with stunning views over the lake. We enjoyed kayaking for free on the lake where we saw nesting eagles. The continental breakfast was an awesome surprise. The staff/owners were above and beyond kind and welcoming. We felt like we made new friends. We highly recommend it!

This cozy cabin is situated on our hillside over looking Little Hanging Horn Lake. The cabin is part of Hanging Horn Lakeside Resort and has common grounds, lake access, pier, beach, fire pit, grill and canoes. Cabin has private front and rear decks with a view down to the lake and rear woods view. Complete kitchen with cook top and refrigerator. Cabin has full bath with walk in shower and linens are included.
This cabin is the only one set back away from the other units. So it provides our guests with little more privacy.
Tucked in the Northwoods, but still an easy drive to Duluth (30 miles) or Minneapolis (100 miles).
  • Great place to get away. Right on the lake where we saw loons and an eagle. Everyone was so helpful with any question we had. They even helped us unload everything from the car. Free use of kayaks, canoes and pedal boats really made our time on the water a lot of fun.

    Chris2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a great place! Super cute and a nice place to relax. Not far from town so you can get things you need. The hosts really care about your stay!

  • This cabin was just exactly what we wanted. The loons kept us company. Thanks for the wonderful getaway.

    Jessica2018-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cozy cabin. Very clean and it has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

    Heather2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the super cute, cozy, private cabin 8. There were several other cabins on the resort, a fire pit with a few chairs outside our cabin, and lakefront access close by with complimentary kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, two-person paddleboats, and a rowboat for Hanging Horn guests. The resort and the lake were quiet, peaceful, and secluded, and the staff were friendly, available, and helpful. Charlie greeted us when we arrived and helped us haul all of our stuff from our car to our cabin. We are given a key to the cabin. Our cabin was very clean and comfortable and stayed cool and dry with the AC on. There was also a big box fan provided which was nice. Other amenities included were a small coffee maker, microwave, small stove and oven, small refrigerator, flashlight, bathroom toiletries, bathroom towels and washcloths, basic kitchen utensils and dishes, and a small charcoal grill outside. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of windows the place had, which let in a lot of natural light and lit up the place nicely. We woke up with the sunrise. The bathroom had a new-looking shower surround that had a built-in seat. The bed was comfortable and there was a TV with a few channels and DVD player in the bedroom. Charlie informed us that there were books and DVDs to borrow inside the main office building. I checked and they had a nice variety. There was also complimentary breakfast inside the main office. I saw oatmeal, cereal, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, and tea. The location is just outside of the city of Moose Lake, which is about a 35 minute drive from Duluth. We were conveniently close enough to Duluth but far away enough to be free of the hustle and bustle of the city. Only improvements we would’ve liked to have were: bathroom privacy (the wall doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling, so you can hear everything) and blinds or curtains on both front and rear doors for privacy and to block out the sun. Other than that, the place was perfect! Bring your own bottled water if you don’t like the taste of iron, which is common for the northern region of Minnesota. Drive carefully and watch out for deer, which are most active during dawn and dusk. Highly recommend and we would definitely consider revisiting.

    Sunny2018-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Hanging Horn for the Grandma's Marathon weekend & we had so much fun. The cabin we stayed in was clean, quiet, and right by the lake. The staff are so friendly and available when needed. As we learned, this location is great for hosting a wedding!

    Madison2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at this cabin - it was perfect for a couple! Would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to get away! And the host was very helpful and nice!

    Kristina2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was cozy, clean, and adorable. We loved the small retro kitchen and the comfy bed. It was chilly at night, but the cabin was nice and warm. The back porch would’ve been wonderful if we had visited in warmer climate. It’s absolutely gorgeous in the fall and Moose Lake and Barnum are adorable little towns with Duluth not too far of a drive.

This family-friendly, spacious cabin overlooking clean, clear Sand Lake is the perfect place to create memories. Unwind each night to a brilliant sunset through the giant picture windows. Fall asleep to a cool lake breeze, then warm up each morning in front of the original stone fireplace. Grab a book or a fishing rod and relax as loons float by the dock. Kids can play all day in the lake, or in the fort built into the stairway, then sleep all night in the cozy bedroom with double bunkbeds.
This cabin was lovingly built by the previous owner (a renowned contractor) for his family. The expert craftsmanship and eye for detail create a home overflowing with character and charm. Original Swedish architecture (vertical logs), as well as a stone hearth from 1954 give it a warm, friendly glow. You won't feel like you're renting here; you'll feel like you're home. Architectural features such as the "kids' counter" in the kitchen, original door latches and doors, and the "fort" in the stairwell will make you marvel. Decorative features like light fixtures, ornate railings, and old snowshoes hung in the common room will make you feel like you've been living here for years. Add to that a full basement (with ping-pong table), full second floor master bedroom (including king-size bed, bunk bed, and crib), modern kitchen (fully equipped with everything you can imagine), and deck, and you'll want to make this a regular retreat.
Pine Grove Lane, on the southeast side of Sand Lake, is a quiet, considerate community proud of its Nordic heritage. A few folks live here year round, but most people use it as a summer retreat. Everyone looks out for each other, and there are frequent community gatherings highlighting the friendliness of the neighborhood. Duluth is a short 45-minute day trip, and provides access to countless dining and entertainment opportunities, as well as creative playgrounds. The twin cities are two hours south. While you're here, don't forget about Gordy's Hi Hat in Cloquet (world-famous diner -- fish-fry, milkshakes, and burgers), and Tobie's caramel rolls in Hinckley!
  • Amazing location and space inside and out! Quiet, close to town, but definitely felt like we were miles away from everything. The deck overlooking the lake was awesome as was the huge dining table. It was super cozy, yet big enough to fit our whole group comfortably.

    Jeff2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We like Brett’ cabin. We stayed here for two nights, it’s a great place. I will recommend it for all my friends who wants to play at Duluth.

    Hui2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This home is amazingly comfortable and cozy and exceeded all of our expectations for relaxation and enjoyment. I wish we could’ve spent more time there...but hope to revisit in the future.

    Zeke2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rippling Waters is a lovely, peaceful place on a beautiful lake. Our party of eight enjoyed our time together there, gathering at the beautiful table in the dining room, cooking in the lovely kitchen, relaxing and grilling on the spacious deck and just hanging out down on the dock right on the water. We would stay there again without hesitation.

    Connie2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful lake home exceeded our expectations. The owners have thought of everything to make this home perfect for families. The home is filled with great children’s books, classic toys, and many special touches to delight children, their parents and their grandparents. We had six adults and four children under five in our party. Their was private room and space for everyone. I think the pictures do not show the spaciousness of this large home. The lake is fully recreational and many floating things come with the rental of the cabin. . The home sits high above the water level for a beautiful sunset view and a climb up many stairs from the water.

    Gretchen2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • I gave the Sand Lake cabin 5 stars as a perfect fit to what my group was looking for. It is a perfect location for those hosting guests across Minnesota. The provided amenities for the lake and kitchen were a perfect fit. We are canoe, kayak & paddle-board folks rather than pontoon or speed boat (though you can rent close by). Moose Lake golf course is a good casual choice for golfers in your group. Plenty of bike & running paths close by. The cabin itself was spotless when we arrived and the layout is well suited to groups of 8-10 with the bedding options. As of June 2019, one neighbor is building a new cabin so there aren't neighbors but light construction noise. The other next door is a close proximity cabin where quiet hour of 10pm is encouraged. Parking is tight if you will have more than 3 vehicles. All in all - a great cabin for your next group gathering!

    John2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Brett and his family for opening the doors of their fantastic Cabin for us. We were 8 adults and 2 kids and had the best time in their wonderful cabin. It was so clean and spacious with all the necessary amenities. Plenty of towels and blankets to use. The location was just on the lake shore and we enjoyed the beautiful sun set. There were all the necessary kitchen amenities and basic spices, flour, sugar. It was a paradise for children with so many toys and wonderful books. Loved it and will visit again for sure. Thanks, Bhavna

  • It’s a great place out in nature and right next to a little lake. They provide kayaks, canoes, and paddle-boats to use on the lake (free of charge). We saw deer and turkeys every morning and evening as we left and came back from our daily activities. The hosts were great and helpful. They even found us some supplies that we forgot to pack and didn’t want to find a grocery store to get them from. The kitchenette was “just right” to make a few easy meals. It was a nice place to getaway and have some quality time with my husband while we explored the Northern Shore of Lake Superior. (It’s about 45 min from Duluth). Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

  • This place is very charming. The large picture window looking out onto the lake was much enjoyed. The kayaks and other boats were always available and the lake is quiet. The space had nice little touches (like chocolates by the bedside) and there was complimentary coffee and breakfast items just outside the rooms. Leslie is a fabulous host answering any questions we had about the place or area. A very nice get-away!

  • AMAZING!! I'm almost afraid to write everything I want to write because I want to return and I want to be sure there is availability for me to book! It's almost as if you have your own private lake! We never left the resort the entire weekend... brought all of our food, cooked everything there... it was incredible! We spent as much time as we could out on the paddleboats and canoe... fishing, swimming, taking in every last second! Charlie and Emily are wonderful, the resort is incredible... rustic, yet up-to-date... just what we were looking for! We will be back!

  • You will have a great time. The room was clean and comfortable. Free water bottles and breakfast was included (bagels, cereal, yogurt). Movies available during downtime. The kayaks were fun to use on the quiet lake.

  • Beautiful location, peaceful lake, great view! Everything was just as pictured. We spent most of our time on the paddleboat and canoes, but ventured in for ice cream one afternoon which was just a quick drive. Charlie was the best host, he went above and beyond to make sure our weekend was awesome.

The Great Lodge rooms are all newly-renovated overlooking Little Hanging Horn Lake or the woods. The views out the giant windows are second to none and showcase wonderful sunsets. Sprawled out over 28 wooded acres, our Lakeside Resort is complete with a Great Lodge, cabins, banquet hall, chapel and hiking trails, and swimming beach and pier. We are 110 miles north of Minneapolis just off Hwy. 35. Close enough, yet a world away. Come join us.
Lake View Room on corner with windows all around, recently updated, tall ceilings and tall picturesque windows overlooking the lake. 32" flat screen TV, one queen beds, seating area and a private bath.
Tucked in the Northwoods, but still an easy drive to Duluth (30 miles) or Minneapolis (100 miles).
  • An amazing place, at an amazing location, and not too far from the Twin Cities metro either. We felt like family during our short stay, and our regret is that we should have stayed longer. Hanging Horn is a pristine lake and our room (#3) was just beside it, with fantastic views. The continental breakfast was sufficient for us, and there are places not too far away (under 5 minutes drive) to find other food too. The last mile to the resort is unpaved, just FYI, but that does not take anything away from the wonderful place this resort is. We loved it, loved the hosts (a big thank-you goes to Leslie), and it felt like more of a family home than your run-of-the-mill resort. Wishing Charlie the very best with this going forward, and would love to be back sooner than later.

  • Spent a very relaxing night at Hanging Horn resort. The rooms have been recently updated. Everything was in top shape! The lake was beautiful. Wish we had more time to enjoy it! Great price for the room. Would definitely stay here again.
