Come and get a taste of island living in a very quiet neighborhood catering to nature lovers. The area showcases lots of native trees, bird watching and a creek that's great for fishing, kayaking or paddle boarding! Also, nearby cays are ideal for day exploring and snorkeling. Location: The beautiful island of Andros in The Bahamas.
“We enjoyed our stay at “Home Sweet Home” in Blanket Sound! The house is a simple and peaceful place to relax and unwind. It was neat and clean and right on a gentle beach. There is a great porch, and all the basic utensils needed to cook are provided. The surrounding area is a rural Bahamian settlement, so it is peaceful and quiet. The hosts were very responsive and friendly. You can walk to the Forfar Research Center, a restaurant at “Love at First Sight” (call ahead to have Miss Sheila cook you a delicious Bahamian meal), a local bar, and a small variety store nearby. We rented a car from Shorrs Car Rental (Miss Hyacinth Hanna), which was indispensable as groceries, the famous Andros “Blue Hole,” and towns, etc. are all a drive away. Groceries are available at Fresh Creek and San Andros (San Andros has the most well-stocked stores). Fresh veggies are available at the Mennonite Farm between San Andros and Blanket Sound. If you are a flats fisherman, there are several flats to explore within a few miles and one right out in front of the house. Thanks for a relaxing stay at ‘Home Sweet Home!””
The most beautiful home on Andros island. This newly constructed home is cozy, warm, and spacious. Located on a beautiful secluded beach, it makes for the perfect hideaway! It is suited with modern, state of the art appliances. Water sports equipment is at the house which includes kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling gear. The property is quiet and secure and is about 15 minutes from the airport. Housekeeping and concierge services are available at no extra cost but tips are encouraged.
“We arrived July 17 and left Aug. 8. Location is great. Beach in front of house is perfect for small children or adults . No waves but crystal clear water. This house is very private. The house has a emergency generator. Almost no neighbors. We had friends coming in for a week at a time and all had the time of their life. Life at the north end of Andros is not in the fast lane. The grocery stores have everything you need about 15 minutes away by car. A rental car is a must. You must get breakfast souse at the take-a-way on the way to the airport not too far from the "superstore" grocery. Also in Lowe's Town about 15 minutes away a conch burger is a must. Flowie runs the Conch Shack. Her conch burgers and Ceviche are the best I have ever had. And by all means schedule a family dinner at Lenny's Poop Shack. The Poop Shack only opens by reservation. Fantastic food and an excellent experience. They are very few other tourist on north Andros. The Bahama people on north Andros want you there. Everybody is friendly. Robby's Place has two key people. Edie and Ron. Edie takes care of the house and Ron is mechanical and the fishing guild. When your vacation is over you will be leaving friends in these two people. If you must be catered to like Nassau tourist then this is not your place. If you want a knock down fabulous location, natural privacy, no lights to ruin your night sky viewing, not seeing another person on the beach, cooking your own fish, lobster, and conch, very friendly locals, and privacy then this is your place.”
If you love peaceful days, undisturbed sleep, stunning views of the ocean, swimming, birds and fish, then Sunset Point Houseboat would suit you fine. On Andros island, guests enjoy wonderful accommodation while relishing the simple elegance of the houseboat and the outstanding natural environment.
“I can't say enough good things about Gabrielle and Peter's place. The pictures on the posting say it all and what you see is what you get! The beds were all comfortable and the house was well appointed with towels and all you need for cooking. I was there in November for a fishing trip with 3 other friends and we had guides pick us up right at the house which was pretty cool. We saw a bonefish right by the bridge to the house on our first day and it was great to grab a beer and fish right from the dock for snapper after we were done wading the flats. Gabrielle also let us use her kayaks and so we took those out fishing as well. (There is a barracuda somewhere in Fresh Creek who still has our Cuda tube hanging out of his mouth...The big one that got away...) Gabrielle and Peter are great hosts and they were right next door to help if we needed anything. Andros town is a short drive and you won't find a WallMart or McDonalds (Thank God!) but just ask anyone and they will tell you where to find the market. And if you need gas, just look for the gas pump! Hanks Place near the bridge into town is a great place to go for dinner - good food and bar. Also try Sammy's Bar and Grill which is right on the beach on the far side of town. Brigadoon is good too. No need to worry about reservations. This is the furthest thing from a 5 star resort experience but if you enjoy nature and want to get "off the grid" and meet some very cool authentic people you will not be disappointed with Gabrielle and Peters place and the Fresh Creek area.”
