Rent out an entire Edo-period storehouse. Relax in a rural hideaway.

We renovated a two-storey storehouse built in the Edo period and turned it into a guest house. It's not a large space, but it retains the atmosphere of a traditional earthen-walled storehouse, with thick beams and more. There's a kitchen on the ground floor with an IH cooking heater.Fully air-conditioned on the 1st and 2nd floors for a comfortable stay. You can experience the sound insulation, the coolness of the summer, and the warmth of winter. There is a sauna facility about 5 minutes away by car, Nekawa Onsen about 15 minutes away, and Kita-Omi-no-Yu about 20 minutes away. There are many sightseeing spots unique to Nagahama, which are often the setting of history. National treasure Hikone Castle, Nagahama Castle in Hideyoshi Toyotomi, the birthplace of Mitsunari Ishida, Japan's premier mountain castle, Otani Castle, battlefields, and Takatake, etc.It is also less than a 20-minute drive to the Sekigahara Battle site. In addition to the area around Lake Biwa, Japan's oldest railway station building, Nagahama Railway Square, Yanmar Museum where children can play, Kurobai Square, and other activities other than history. You can also enjoy gourmet food such as Omi beef, duck dishes, grilled mackerel somen, noppei udon, salad, bread, duck, and small ayu.

[Barrel Sauna Available (Paid)] Renovated Old Private House with Warehouse and Large Garden, 1 Building for Rent/Up to 8 People/Tent Sauna/BBQ Available

"We're going to demolish it because no one lives there anymore..." We received such a consultation, and we remodeled the nearly 100-year-old house with the desire to preserve it for future generations. Welcome to [3Re: Kura], a private inn that has been reborn into a comfortable space while retaining the good qualities of an old house. [Re Origine (Use what you can and don't destroy more than you need)] [Re Make (reuse and rebirth)] [Re Meaning (Redefining the value of the countryside)] Based on the concept of the three Re's, we strive to create new value while cherishing our roots. We are trying to see if we can make use of the house with a warehouse. My imagination is running wild, thinking of turning the warehouse into a theater room. The warehouse has a BBQ set, outdoor chairs, outdoor tables, fire pits, etc. You can enjoy a tent sauna and BBQ in the large garden. Please inquire when booking if you are interested. * Notes * Due to regional characteristics, there is a large number of Japanese rhinoceros beetles from late March to early April and from November to early December. It may be unpleasant for those who are staying at that time. Please acknowledge it beforehand.

Traditional Townhouse & Garden in Quiet Castletown

Experience the charm of traditional Japan with all the senses in this finely crafted townhouse & surrounding garden. Gujo Hachiman is known as the “City of Water”, and owner & architect Yuri Fujisawa has lovingly restored this charming residence to embody the spirit of water. Located below the town’s medieval castle, this neighborhood was reserved for high-ranking samurai. While the historical streetscape is well-preserved, it remains an authentic neighborhood inhabited by friendly locals.

Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.
