[House story] This house was born out of a childhood dream of living in a Nordic house.It all started with my longing for a cosy cabin like the ones in stories and for the tranquillity of nature. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband Andy, took over a cabin that was due to be demolished just one month later. An old private house for rent just one group per day, surrounded by rivers and forests. Here, you can enjoy the time itself while wrapped in sound, fire, water, and stars. The music room has a grand piano, drum, guitar, and bass. In the pizza oven experience (extra charge), you bake authentic Neapolitan pizza, and at night watch the stars and the Milky Way surrounded by BBQs and bonfire fires. In the summer, you can play in the river just around the corner, and enjoy a tent sauna (extra charge) in nature. There is a former cafe full kitchen in the old house, so everyone can cook together or read quietly in the library. Feel free to spend every “time you like”. Built in the early Showa era and long used as a tea ceremony classroom, the townhouse has been reborn as a private rental inn, "Kyomachiya Cottage karigane". It is a 1-minute walk to the hot springs and Daikokuji Temple, which has deep ties to tea. Shino, with its unique cafes, coffee roasters, delicious Japanese confectionery stores, bakeries, and soba shops. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.
