Family & Pet Friendly Modern House Near Beach

MelissaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Spectacular! This place was even better than the pictures, reviews and description. It suited our family perfectly with plenty of space, yet great areas where we could come together as well. The wildlife was amazing and I could have sat out on the daybed the whole stay just watching nature! The kids had plenty to do and were able to get their short fix of screens in their down time. We can not recommend Andrew and Hilary's place highly enough, it was just perfect for us in every way! I really hope we can get back there one day! Mel and Mark (Qld)

Luxe&Ivy Romantic Country Getaway Clifton Creek

Robyn’s house exceeded our expectations by a landslide!! The house is absolutely stunning, Robyn has thought of every little thing that you may need, from every kind of kitchen utensil to laundry bags and soaps. The bed was so comfy and the house was cleaner than any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Not a single spec of dirt anywhere, even the outdoor bath was immaculate (and so lush!!). Finally, Robyn as a host may just be the most considerate Airbnb host EVER. We entered the house to find homemade ice cream, beer and wine, crackers and dip, honey and jams etc. The generosity and thoughtfulness of these hosts is next level and I cannot thank them enough for making our stay so comfortable and special. We will absolutely be back, thank you Robyn!! 😊

Myrtlebank Cottage Farmstay

Loved Belinda’s little cottage - the photos don’t do it justice. It has been beautifully renovated but preserved the character with modern touches and attention to detail - a lot of love has gone into this place. We had everything we needed including comfy beds and good quality towels and loved the animals for company, especially the cheeky chickens. Belinda was very generous providing us with free range eggs, milk and a flexible check in. Thank you for hosting, we will be back!

Golden Beach Beauty!

LinzRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Clean, not far from the beach. There is a general store (Foodworks) round the corner that provides basic amenities and some food. Easy walk to the beach. It's a lovely comfortable place to stay. We had all we needed in the home, telescope and toys for kids were a nice touch. There is a long bath indoors and outdoors which is a hit with the kids. Fair warning, there were a lot of flies, not something that the host can control and it's what you do get living at the beach. They get in when you open the doors so do be quick. Maybe bring a fly swatter if you find using fly spray/ elastic bands to not be your choice of weapon. We managed to take out over 30 flies indoors but it's a constant battle. Overall a fantastic place to stay, highly recommended and will come back again.

We enjoyed Jessica's place. short track to walk down to the beach which was pretty deserted. Fully fenced for our dogs. Saw kangaroos and parrots. Great coffee machine. Bring drinking water as they are on tank water. Great fire pit.

Your guide to Maffra

All About Maffra

Maffra is a small country town in Victoria, less than a three-hour drive from Melbourne. The area’s traditional custodians are the Gurnaikurnai Aboriginal people, though the town was given the name Maffra by early European settlers. The area was once a popular destination for gold fossickers, and had a flourishing sugar beet industry. Today, Maffra is home to many dairy farms surrounded by rolling, green pastures.

Wander through town to see many of the original Victorian-era shopfront verandas. Maffra is also close to the Macalister and Thomson rivers, where it’s possible to fish for trout at certain times of the year. You can also visit nearby Lake Glenmaggie, which is less than a 30-minute drive away, and is a popular spot for picnicking, water-skiing, kayaking, and boating.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Maffra

Maffra is a popular spot to visit at any time of the year. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities, and the weather remains fairly mild year-round — though you’ll need to pack your woollies in the winter months. Autumn is a lovely time to visit, and an ideal time for cycling the local rail trail or bushwalking. The temperatures usually remain high, and there is usually less rainfall than at other times of the year. Spring is also very pleasant, with lots of blossoms and wildflowers in the surrounding areas. The hottest days in summer don’t exceed those of autumn, though it can be quite chilly in winter.

Top things to do in Maffra

Gippsland Plains Rail Trail

If you’re interested in cycling, you can also take the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail — a flat, 63-kilometre trail on fine or coarse gravel that’s usually open all year round. Pass by wineries, stop for a bite to eat, drop into some local boutiques and enjoy magnificent views of the great Dividing Range along the way. You can either bring your own bikes or hire them from one of the local operators.

Rivers and Lakes

Maffra is a short drive to two rivers — the Macalister river and Thomson river, both of which flow into Lake Glenmaggie. There is a swimming spot at Sandy Point, and the lake is also popular for trout fishing, boating, water-skiing, and kayaking. It’s also a lovely spot to take a picnic and relax in the shade.

Beet Museum

For a glimpse of Maffra’s early history, stop by the Beet Museum in town, where you’ll find insights into the area’s once-thriving sugar beet industry, and its transition into dairy farming. The nearby Gippsland Vehicle Collection also offers an overview of Australia’s early motoring history.
