what a gem i was able to find! instructions were so clear and host was quick to respond. The area was amazing, there's a lovely bakery that I was obsessed with near by as well. close to the station so vetting there was easy. The place was so beautiful as well, very old school but made you feel right at home. Would definetly recommend 👌🏽

Traditional Terrace House. Private open-air bath.

IliesRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This house is lovely awesome and perfectly clean. Our stay was wonderful and more worth the price. The private onsen inside the tiny Japanese garden is beautiful. The location is very quiet, near the river and less 5 minutes by walk from the station and konbini. Everything you need is provided inside the house, so you don’t have to worry about

My cousin and their family had an enjoyable stay. The house was clean, stylish, and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Tomoko San was very responsive and friendly, making the check-in process quite smooth and answering any questions. I would recommend it to all my friends.

Stylish Kyoto House 800m to Station Peaceful Stay

StephenRating, 5 stars2 days ago
Place is very spacious, very clean and good air conditioner. Very comfortable bedding. Shower is plenty big. If you are 6ft or over you’ll need to occasionally duck but tat all over Japan. It’s definitely not a problem. Way better than staying in a hotel as I could sneak downstairs as I am always up before my family and could get work done before activities. Cabs and Ubers go right by, 7-11 is baseball throw away and an excellent I Indian restaurant on the corner. If you have a kid who wants McDonald’s it’s right there too. You’ll have to take a cab or Uber unless you want to walk 20 minutes to things but as I said they are readily available and only cost $10. Highly recommend super spacious and I felt a much better option for us than a small hotel room. Also it had a good washer for clothes.

ArjunRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Have never stayed in an Airbnb this unique in architecture. It’s 2 beautiful houses joined by a lovely garden and a walkway. One over 100 years old, and absolutely stunning, and the other a modern one with all amenities. And top it all a wonderful host, so kind and communicative.

Kirakuan - a Machiya with a modern touch

BernadetteRating, 5 stars4 days ago
Mako was an exceptional host from start to finish. Her instructions on how to navigate Kyoto were so helpful. We really enjoyed eating at her favourite places which were delicious and not expensive. The house is very special and much loved little extras every where. Thank you for the gift left at our door. We would definitely like to stay here again.

Kyoto Machiya w/ Samurai, Tatami Room & Garden

Lian SeeRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
If I could give the host 6 stars, I would. We were travelling with 3 young children. The host is very responsive and answered our enquiries promptly. Our requests to leave our luggages at the unit before check in time and pick up later after check out time were also fulfilled and those were life-savers. There are Family mart, 7-eleven and many eateries nearby. Within walking distance from Jr station and some bus stations. The place was quite at night and we had peaceful sleep. We will definitely choose this unit again if we were to come to Kyoto again.

Nagomi・100-year History Machiya/ Garden & Woodbath

YaseminRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
My husband, our two children (ages 6 and 7), and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming, classic Japanese home. The heated flooring, tatami mats, and low beds created a cozy and authentic atmosphere that we truly appreciated. The kitchen was practical and well-kept, making it easy to prepare meals. The bathrooms were clean and comfortable, and the washing machines and dryer worked perfectly. It was a delightful and memorable stay for our whole family.

Kyomachiya Sanyu - A relaxing time with a view of the Japanese garden in a 100-year-old Kyomachi house with 3 bedrooms and parking

BenRating, 5 stars2 days ago
We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful townhouse in Kyoto! The space was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious. It was perfect for our group of 6. The host went above and beyond by providing thoughtful amenities like disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and combs, which added an extra level of comfort to an already great stay. Everything was smooth from check-in to check-out, and the location made it easy for us to explore the city. We truly felt at home and would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

Private Villa with Open-Air Bath Kyoto

JohannaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We enjoyed our short stay while my 2 teenage sons and visited Kyoto. One of my boys wanted to visit and live like a local in a traditional home while the other wanted a western style bed ( a mattress) this was perfect! The traditional, clean, minimalist style Japanese home was perfect for us all! The security camera that allowed us to see the front door made me feel at ease. The air conditioning was great as we like to sleep cold. The beds were comfortable. The washer /dryer were very convenient. I had a beautiful surprise to watch and hear monks chanting one morning by the front door while I worked and had coffee!

I was visiting my family in Kyoto from the US. This accommodated 7 people very well with plenty of beds snd linens. It was helpful to stay here midway through our trip to be able to wash clothes. The kitchen was great space to have many meals and storage for food. There were many dishes. Bathrooms were very clean and many options for shower and bath. It was a great place for my family visit!

Kyoto Machiya Rentals/More than 100 years/Kiyomizu-dera Temple/Gion/Yasaka Shrine/5 minutes on foot from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station/Near Kuni Sento []

ErinRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Our stay at Kiho’s place was amazing and unique. This townhome is in a courtyard of a few other homes. The area has a very quiet residential feel while only being about 5 minute walk from train stations, convenience store, and many restaurants. This home provides a traditional feel with also having the freedom of a private rental over a ryokan which is why we wanted to stay here. Kiho was very very quick to respond and was a generous host. She was flexible on check in and out and was very kind! The bath was a feature I really liked. The home was very cozy and charming. Some notes: the stairs are indeed steep, the door frame is narrow and may be difficult for larger bags fyi. this home is in a very peaceful environment that is probably not best suited to people who intend to get sloppy or loud every night. Please be respectful of this home and the community so we can all enjoy!

“Summit Villa”Osaka Umeda three-bedroom apartmen/

SonjaRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This beautiful home is situated in a peaceful and cute neighbourhood. We could sleep with open windows. The alleys and little shops are worthwhile exploring. The walls are thin but the neighbourhood is very quiet. It is a short walk from the Nakazakicho metro station which gets you everywhere you need to go. The kitchen utensils are perfect if you want to cook. I appreciated the outdoor hanging space to dry clothes and towels. Was perfect for our family of four.

We had a wonderful stay with family and friends from all over the world. 20 of us stayed and we had plenty of space. We felt right at home. Very convenient location, near Kyoto station but far enough to be in a quiet local area, with small bars and sento! Thank you for being a great host!

If you’re asking yourself whether or not it’s worth it to book here— the answer is an absolute YES. It is truly one of the most beautiful homes we’ve ever stayed in. The outdoor tub is heavenly and was the best way to beat the summer heat during our stay. The beds are so comfortable, the house was the cleanest Airbnb I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been lucky enough to stay in many excellent ones!), and the location is prime for anything you might want to get up to. We couldn’t be more grateful to have experienced Kyoto for the first time here! Truly the most peaceful place to stay in the most peaceful city. Also, the AC is the crispest I’ve ever been in, which was a must. Great all around!

Kyotofish·Shirakawa*Gion Area Riverview Machiya

JoseRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The location on the Shirakawa is the main selling feature on this. Peaceful and nice to come home to. We sat there many nights on a floor seat near the window watching the canal. They can set up a futon for a third guest in this area, but be warned they have the best view!! :) There are fireflies at night on the canal. There is some car and pedestrian traffic on the opposite side of the canal and people do look in. The unit was clean and there's not a lot of stuff to clutter the space, which is nice. Furnishings are good quality and in good shape. There's a full steam bath on the first floor and a half bath on the second floor where the bed is. There's a full kitchen downstairs and a combo washer/dryer (takes about 4 hours for full cycle) on 1st floor. The unit could use more places to sit and a smaller dining table, but they're minor inconveniences. The location is great and very walkable to the entire historic area. We spotted 16 geishas in our 5 nights in Kyoto!
