All about Kurrimine Beach

Kurrimine Beach is a quiet and relaxed seaside town in Queensland’s Cassowary Coast Region, full of national parks, walking trails, waterfalls, and beaches. Amazingly, 75 percent of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area is in this area, making it a sanctuary for native wildlife from brightly coloured insects like the Ulysses butterfly to shy mammals you won’t see anywhere else. It is also a bird watchers paradise, with nearly half of Australia’s birds found in the Wet Tropics.

Kurrimine Beach offers terrific access to the famous Great Barrier Reef — the world’s largest and most spectacular coral reef system. King Reef is just 800 metres off the beach, so you can walk out to explore the reef on very low tides, depending on the time of year. Many other significant reefs in the Barrier are less than an hour away, including Hall-Thompson, Adelaide, Ellison, Eddy, and Beaver. The beautiful, clear waters surrounding the reefs provide perfect conditions for swimming, snorkelling, and diving.

What are the top things to do in Kurrimine Beach?

The Mamu Skywalk

You can drive just over 30 minutes to The Wooroonooran National Park and take a walk in the clouds. The Forest and Sky Walks, a cantilever, and an observation tower offer a unique experience of being high in the rainforest canopy with spectacular panoramic views of this World Heritage rainforest and landscapes within it. Observe the rainforest plants, insects, and birds close-up while learning about the rainforest’s intricate web of life and the area’s fascinating culture and history.

Wooroonooran National Park

Nearby Wooroonooran National Park stuns with thrilling waterfalls, a beautiful rainforest, gorges, rivers, and more. There is so much you can do here, from canoeing and mountain biking to bushwalking through Mount Bartle Frere, which offers incredible views along the way. You can also enjoy Queensland’s highest mountain and the spectacular Josephine’s Falls. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can slide down the natural rock slippery dip into the refreshing waterfall.

Twilight Markets

The famous Twilight Markets take place on the beachfront at Kurrimine Beach every third Friday of every month. It’s a brilliant location for a market with the waves lapping in the background while you wander through rows of stalls selling arts and crafts, natural products, local coffee, fresh produce, clothing and jewellery, food, and more.
