Your guide to Jamieson
All About Jamieson
The historic town of Jamieson is hidden away behind emerald green mountains and set close to creeks, the Goulburn River, and Lake Eildon in the south of Australia. A former hotspot during the gold rush, the town has managed to keep its ties to the past and features many preserved buildings from the era amongst its restaurants, breweries, and distilleries. For those looking to more deeply explore this past, The Jamieson Historical Society hosts books, maps, and photographs that tell stories about Jamieson’s early days. Nearby, classic cars are the stars at the Bimbi Car and Memorabilia Museum.
The city centre is nearly surrounded by the Jamieson River, so there’s a multitude of water-based activities available here, including whitewater rafting and fishing for common carp, brown trout, and river blackfish. You could also just bring pre-made lunch, or food to grill, and set up at one of the many BBQs and picnic tables along the river. Bushwalking, birdwatching, and hiking are also popular pastimes with such an abundance of greenery to explore in the area.
The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Jamieson
The weather here is typically rather mild but the town does enjoy snowfall during the winter, so bear that in mind when planning your accommodation in Jamieson. If you have a soft spot for those moody autumn colours, Jamieson will blow you away — the city even hosts an annual Autumn Festival celebrating the changing of the leaves. This event is typically held in April and features art workshops, blacksmithing, bush cooking, and music. The city also hosts a Spring Ball whose theme changes annually.
