The cottage is located on the banks of the clear Marukawa River. Gifu is famous for Shirakawago and Hida Takayama, but Enbara is also a nice place in the mountains, although it is inconvenient. The scenery of the mountains and rivers is beautiful, and it is a place rich in nature where monkeys and deer appear. The Enbara River is known as the most beautiful underground water in Japan and a famous spot for its light, and the inn is located about 800 meters from the spring water point of the underground water, so the water transparency is excellent. You can also see the light from the inn. On summer mornings, depending on the weather conditions, you can see a magical view of the sunlight pouring through the trees. The water in the Marukara River is cold, but in summer the children play in the river energetically. The riverbed is much cooler, so people can escape the heat and cool off. A little downstream there are several river play spots, and the water is clear everywhere and it feels good to swim beautifully. The water of the river shines emerald green in a slightly deep place, and the scenery of rocks and moss is also wonderful, and it is a healing spot where the mind is purified. There is a deck facing the river on the second floor of the inn, so you can relax while watching the river, BBQ, swing in a hammock while listening to the river, or refresh yourself in the tent sauna.

This is an inn near the old Nakasendo, where the good old townscape remains. I was working hard as an interior coordinator, and I wanted to recreate the rich and peaceful time I spent at my grandmother's house as a child, so I wanted to give my guests a relaxing time. The retro atmosphere unique to an old private house has been preserved, and the interior has been arranged to be easy to live in. Nearby, you can enjoy a stroll in the Kahara-machi area, where there are cafes and bakeries in renovated townhouses, and the Nagara River, famous for cormorant fishing (May-October). It is a charming area with lots of nature and fields. Experience the nostalgic life of real Japan, not a made-up Japan. We renovated a 150-year-old thatched-roof house in the Higashikousono area of Yonehara City, reusing the pillars and beams as they were, and focusing on the underfloor, heating and cooling, and water circulation. It is equipped to suit modern lifestyles while feeling the good old traditional construction methods. The room has 2 single beds and futons for 6 people, so it can be used by groups such as families and friends. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

I came to Gifu in 2018, I think it was it’s unpretentiousness that attracted me . The people here seem relaxed and easy going, hospitable and very much in love with their hometown which in the Gifu park area retains much of the (Kyoto like) feeling of traditional Japan with it’s castle and a host of well maintained shrines. I don't think many people have heard of Gifu, even Japanese people, inspite of the Great heritage sights like Shirakawago, beautiful mountains and clear water rivers!
