The Location: Marghera and its history
If you are considering a B&B in Venice, whether for a long or short vacation, with or without family and children, or for a business meeting, the Fine Venice Bed and Breakfast in Marghera is the ideal place for an unforgettable stay in Venice.
Marghera is a municipality (district) of the Commune of Venice. It includes the industrial area known as Porto Marghera or Venice Porto Marghera.

The Municipality of Marghera, one of the six districts of the Commune of Venice, includes 30,000 inhabitants (Marghera alone includes 17,000 inhabitants)

The name "Marghera" derives from the fact that the area where the current city was built was once a marine swamp. In the Venetian dialect, in fact, "mar ghe gera" means "there was the sea".

By the beginning of the 20th century, it was obvious that the existing port of Venice in the San Marco Basin would be incapable of servicing large, modern ships. A new port was then built in the western part of Venice, at the Stazione Marittima. However, it became clear that if the industry had developed in its immediate vicinity, it would have a negative impact on the historical city and on its tourism. As a result, in 1917, the Italian government decided to develop an industrial area in Marghera on the mainland, right in front of Venice and near the city of Mestre. Count Giuseppe Volpi was an important supporter of the regime. Development began in 1920, and for 10 years the dredging of the navigation, excavation and reclamation canals continued. A residential area was also built for the port workers. In 1923, the first chemical factory began production, which made Porto Marghera famous.

In 1926, Marghera and Mestre were made a fraction under the control of the municipal government of Venice. In 1940, more than 60 factories were installed in Marghera and, consequently, during World War II, Allied bombers targeted Porto Marghera.
