Community policy

Protecting your privacy

At Airbnb, we want to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere and the first step is creating a community that’s open, inclusive, and built on trust. A fundamental part of earning this trust is protecting your privacy.

Digital spaces

Privacy principles: Our commitment to data privacy is explained in our privacy principles. These principles guide our decision making as we work to uphold your trust. We use data to power your experiences, and we don’t sell your personal data to anyone. You can learn more about our privacy policy and how to exercise your data subject rights.

Non-consensual content sharing: Private information, photos, or videos of community members must not be publicly posted unless the subject of the post has given their permission.

    Physical spaces

We've put in place strong policies and practices that require our community members to respect your privacy in physical spaces.

    • Security cameras and recording devices: Hosts must not have security cameras or recording devices that monitor indoor spaces in homes, even if these devices are turned off. Learn more about our approach to security cameras and recording devices.
    • Physical intrusions: Hosts and guests must not enter private spaces unless they have permission or there is an emergency. For entire home stays, hosts must clearly identify any private, off-limits areas in the listing details and guests are expected to respect those private areas. Guests have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the space they have rented. Hosts must obtain guest permission before accessing the listing or property during the reservation, unless there is an emergency. For shared stays, hosts and guests must not enter a shared bathroom when another person is inside, and must obtain permission before entering non-shared spaces like bedrooms and private bathrooms.
    • Use of another’s personal property: Hosts and guests must not use the personal property of another unless they are given permission to do so, and may use property only as allowed if permission is given.

      Enforcing these policies

If we determine that any community member violated our policies, we take appropriate action, including issuing warnings, suspending or removing listings, or suspending or removing an account from the Airbnb platform – depending on the severity of the conduct.

      We're here to help
