Community policy

What's expected of hosts

Hosts play a crucial role in upholding the trust that underpins the Airbnb community. Every host should meet these basic standards in order to deliver a respectful, comfortable, and reliable experience for guests.

  • Reliability and accuracy: Hosts should follow our ground rules for homes, services, and experiences. This includes honoring reservations and refunds and accurately describing their listing. Hosts may only adjust details for a confirmed booking with guests’ consent, and must ensure that any mandatory fees are included in the price shown to guests at the time of booking.
  • Cleanliness, safety, and security: Hosts should follow safety requirements for homes and for services and experiences, offer homes and venues that are clean and secure, and address any health and safety hazards. Hazards inherent to the listing (ex: high heights, bodies of water) must be disclosed on the listing page.
  • Respect guests and their property: Hosts should treat guests, their property and all members of the community with respect.
  • Communication: Home hosts should be available to respond to guest inquiries or unexpected issues that may come up before and during stays.
  • Preparedness and respect for property: Service or experience hosts must provide an appropriate venue and any necessary materials or equipment for the reservation. Hosts are responsible for delivering proper training and instruction to their guests to provide a reliable and safe guest experience, and for respecting the venue in which the service or experience takes place.
  • Keeping reservations and payments on Airbnb: Hosts shouldn’t ask or encourage guests to move current, future, or repeat bookings, or payments for any mandatory fees, off of Airbnb.
  • Listing restrictions: Certain home listings and service or experience activities are prohibited, or only allowed if they meet certain requirements. In addition, service and experience hosts must satisfy applicable standards and requirements before their listing is published, and must continue to uphold them after their listing goes live.
  • Authorization: Hosts must be authorized to host and comply with all applicable laws.
