Hosting people of only one gender

To help promote safety, privacy, and compliance with applicable law, hosts of homes, services or experiences may choose to host only guests of a certain gender under certain circumstances.

When hosts can have listings for only one gender

Homes: As described in our Nondiscrimination Policy, you may make a listing available to only guests of your gender when you share living spaces with them (ex: bathroom, kitchen, or common areas). If you don’t share living spaces with your guests, then you can’t decline a guest based on their gender.

Services and experiences: If you receive permission from Airbnb, you may make a service or experience available only to guests of a single gender to promote safety, address privacy considerations, or comply with applicable law.

• If you think that you’re eligible to host a service or experience for only one gender, get in touch with a member of our team, and we’ll assess your eligibility.
• If you do receive permission from Airbnb to host a single-gender service or experience, please note that it’s tied only to a specific service or experience, and not to any other home, service, or experience listing that you may offer.
• If approved, you should prominently include gender restrictions in your listing description to properly inform prospective guests. Please be clear and polite when communicating with guests about the gender restriction.

Unless the above criteria for your home, service, or experience has been met, you may not:

• Decline to offer a home, service, or experience to a guest based on gender
• Impose different terms or conditions based on gender
• Post any listing or make any statement that discourages or indicates a preference for or against any guest on account of gender

Any gender restriction and associated language in the listing description must be compliant with applicable law.

Canceling a reservation

If you get a reservation that doesn’t comply with your gender restriction, you can cancel without fees or other consequences if you meet all of the following requirements:

• For homes:
  • The reservation was booked using Instant Book
  • You share living spaces with your guests
  • You specified in your house rules or informed the guests that you allow only one gender to book
    
    
• For services and experiences:
  • The restriction was pre-approved by Airbnb
  • You specified the applicable gender restriction in the service or experience description

How to cancel a reservation

Find out how to cancel a reservation for a home, service, or experience. Some things to note:

• You may have to provide additional information, contact the guest, or contact Airbnb to confirm your cancellation.
• You can only cancel an entire service or experience, not just remove a single guest.
• If you don’t meet the requirements above, you can still cancel the reservation but fees or other consequences may be applied.
