With the feeling of being in the country yet an easy walk to all that the gorgeous village of Woodend has to offer. All you need for your country escape!

The space
Dreaming of a relaxing escape to the Country, within an hour of Melbourne?

An easy 5 minute drive to Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon and only 15 minutes from both Kyneton and Macedon, the Barn is nestled into it's own private garden on our 4 acre property. Within walking distance of all the delights of Woodend (crowned "The Most Liveable Town in Regional Victoria - 2023) and yet with the relaxed feel of a small country farm where we live with our kids, chickens and our daschund, Arlo.

An original building on the property, believed to date back to the mid 20th century, the Barn has been thoughtfully renovated to include a spacious, light-filled bedroom, an expansive living / kitchen area with 5½ metre cathedral ceilings, gorgeous French doors leading to a sunny, private garden space, surrounded by a tall picket fence and softened by hedging, magnolias and ornamental pear trees. Add in the wood burning fireplace in winter plus the modern and stylish bathroom with large rain shower and instant hot water and you have the perfect getaway and base in the Macedon Ranges to call your own whatever your reason for visiting.

Bedroom

A cosy, yet bright space is perfect for those long, morning lie-ins. A comfortable queen size bed with quality bedlinen is complemented by abundant pillows and throws. Reverse cycle heating and air conditioning keeps the bedroom at the perfect temperature and there is a wardrobe and chest of drawers provided for guest use. Stylishly decorated with a mix of vintage, locally sourced and modern pieces, it’s an ideal space for rest and relaxation.

Bathroom

Just across the hallway is the spacious and sophisticated bathroom, with large shower with overhead rain showerhead and separate hand held showerhead. Instantaneous gas hot water ensures a great shower every time! A wall hung vanity with countertop sink and great mirrors and lighting are complemented by elegant tiling and the shiplap walls and ceiling give a nod to the building’s country heritage. Towels are provided as well as a hairdryer.

Living / Kitchen

The living room and kitchen is the real showpiece of this building. With towering, cathedral ceilings letting in gorgeous light at any time of the day and carefully selected items of furniture, both vintage and modern, all selected to ensure the highest level of comfort and enjoyment. A Morsø wood burning fire warms the space beautifully in winter and a reverse cycle a/c unit heats and cools at any time of year. A huge ceiling fan also helps to keep you cool in the warmer months. Plus, carefully curated local or vintage artwork adds aesthetic interest to the space.

Although it does not have full cooking facilities (there is no oven or extractor fan) all other kitchen facilities (including a coffee plunger, portable hob, sandwich press, microwave, toaster, kettle and egg poacher) are here. We ask that guests cook any food that is likely to create cooking fumes on the BBQ outside. Generous breakfast provisions for your first day are provided, which may include eggs from our gorgeous flock of free range chickens, yoghurt and bread, butter, jam and milk. Our pantry is stocked with provisions including tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

For entertainment during your stay there is a large, flat screen television with free to air TV channels as well as Netflix. We have also provided a selection of board games, cards, books and magazines for you to play and read during your stay.

Private courtyard garden

In the warmer months, throw open the French doors from the living room and sit outside in your private, picturesque courtyard garden. You can choose from comfortable seating in the sun with a glass of local wine (or a cheeky g&t from one of the local gin distilleries) or to dine at the spacious outdoor setting after cooking dinner on the bbq provided.

In the cooler months, light a fire and cosy up with one of the throws you will find in your accommodation (* fire pit is only available outside of fire restriction periods and firewood is only provided in the cooler months).

About Us

We live on 4 acres in a 125 year old farmhouse on the property. Our house is around 20 metres from the Barn and is our family home so please be aware that during your stay you may hear or see us going about our business on the property. We are always happy to have a chat with guests and make recommendations of things to do, however we have created the private courtyard garden to ensure that our guests can still have privacy during their stay and their own outdoor space. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the furnishings and the layout of the Barn (plus due to our animals on the property) it is not suitable for toddlers or pets. We can accommodate infants under 12 months, however please note that we do not provide baby equipment so parents will need to supply their own.

We are happy for our guests to wander over to the 'potager' (french-style kitchen garden filled with flowers and veggies) to pick some produce or to visit the cut flower garden which provides us with our flowers that we sell from a stall at the front of the property and from our website. Depending on the time of year we may have have zucchini, cucumbers, peas, beans, lettuce, tomatoes and herbs.

We moved here from Melbourne in 2014 and have spent that time renovating and creating the lovely property that we have today. We share a driveway so visitors will need to be aware of children and animals and drive accordingly.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Barn Woodend.

FLOWERS

If you are visiting for a special reason such as an anniversary or birthday celebration and would like us to include a wrapped bouquet of flowers on arrival please get in touch and we can arrange this. We run a micro flower farm from our property and during growing season (usually November through until April) we have flowers for sale. We can put together a special bouquet as a gift (additional charges will apply so please message to arrange).

Guest access
We have created a lovely space for guests, both indoors and outdoors, to enable you to have privacy and space. If you would like to visit our chickens or horses or meander through the kitchen garden or the cut flower patch please feel free to wander. We have created an abundant potager that provides us with much of our food throughout the year and the flowers for our house and guests in the warmer months. We are also very happy to show guests through the garden and answer any questions.

Lives in Woodend, Australia
Hi, I’m Kylie. I live in Woodend, Victoria (Australia) with my husband and two children. My husband works in Melbourne and I look after our property and run our AirBnB Barn accommodation. We spend a lot of our time on our property growing flowers that we sell locally and looking after our menagerie of animals, currently including horses, chickens, cats and a mini daschund called Arlo. We also love to bike ride, hang out with our kids by the pool and travel and experience other places both within Australia and overseas.
