The space
Film Maker's Cottage is a charming house steeped in history and nestled in the picturesque town of Warburton, in the breathtaking Yarra Valley.

This uniquely styled property pays tribute to a former owner - a documentary film maker. The Cottage has been lovingly restored and filled with consciously-sourced items. More than 80% of the furniture, objects and gorgeous art work has been sustainably sources with curated second hand items.

Days can be spent soaking in the sun in the sunroom, staring up at mountain and nights beside the cozy fireplace in the living room after cooking up a storm in the large, eat-in kitchen.

Our cosy sunroom, with its panoramic views of Mount Donna Buang, provides an idyllic setting for contemplation and looks out to the shaded back garden.

In the evenings, enjoy a BBQ dinner on the wrap-around verandah or sink into the lounge into the front lounge room with a book, good conversation, or a movie.

Wifi is available if you want to stay connected.

Soak the day away in the beautiful claw-foot bath complete with beautiful 'Ink & Water' toiletries to soak the day away.

The two bedrooms (one King room and one Queen room) have luxury linen and pillow top bedding and exude comfort and tranquillity.

Located in the captivating town of Warburton, Film Maker's Cottage offers easy access to the region's natural wonders and cultural delights. We are walking distance to town, and you can find the O'Shannassy aquaduct trail at the end of the road.

The wineries, cheese factories and fruit-picking can be found in the Healesville, Seville, Coldstream areas - just 20 minutes drive away.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding forests, hike along the scenic trails, or cycle the famous Warburton trails.

While winter is a perfect spot for enjoying the cool, crisp mountain air, Summer days in Warburton are perfect for exploring lazy swimming holes or floating a lilo down the Yarra River.

For those who enjoy cooking in our cook's kitchen, we provide basic provisions such as spices, olive oil and salt & pepper. Enjoy the taste of naturally sourced spring water as all our water comes from a mountain spring.

Combined with Sign Maker's Cottage on the same block you have the option to accommodate up to 6 guests.

***PLEASE NOTE: If you intend to book for 2 people and use both bedrooms, please let us know after booking as we will need to charge you an extra $50 to cover the additional linen washing costs. If you do use the second bedroom without telling us, we will charge you an extra $100 on check out. We think it is fair for 2 people to pay less than 3 or 4 but if two beds are used, we have to charge to recover the additional cleaning costs. ***

We also offer a little honesty mini-bar, where you can enjoy some local and regional produce during your stay.

Neighbourhood highlights

The O'Shannassy Aqueduct trail is located at the top of the street (Yoonga Rd). It's glorious! Once at the top of the street, head left or right.
The quickest walking route into town & the Yarra River is to head down the hill from Salisbury Ave. Almost at the end is a yellow corrugated shed, and opposite are concrete steps heading down to a path through some trees. At the end of the path, turn left, then right onto the main road. Cross the bridge and turn right to the river path or straight to go into town.

Meet your hosts

We bought Makers Cottages as 'our place' as we both live in different states! Sam grew up at the edge of the Yarra Valley and it was love at first sight for Sally (both with Sam and Makers Cottages). We have worked hard to be conscious and deliberate in our decisions at Makers. Most things have been loved before. We didn’t want to fill a house with new perfect things. It has been a labour of love curating and putting all these elements together.
