A gateway to Gippsland's spectacular natural attractions, the picturesque town of Foster is just 30 minutes from Wilsons Promontory National Park, and a short drive to other popular destinations including Shallow Inlet, Corner Inlet, Sandy Point, Waratah Bay and Victoria’s highest waterfall, Agnes Fall. Foster is also the major service town for the region with many shops, fresh produce stores, cafes, and bakeries.

Foster was founded in 1871 after a mini gold rush in the area, and there are memorials to commemorate the town's gold mining history in Pearl Park. Across from the park, in the town’s former post office is Foster’s historical museum, featuring displays of the region's gold history. The Hayes Walking track in town will lead you to the site of Victory Mine, Foster’s largest gold mine. The region is also known for its highly acclaimed cheeses, cool climate wines, craft beers, preserves, and fruit and vegetables. All this local produce can be enjoyed at the wineries and farm shops throughout the region, as well as at many weekend markets.
