All about Euroa

The traditional home of the Ngurelban Aboriginal people, the storied heritage town of Euroa nestles at the base of the Strathbogie Ranges in Victoria’s High Country, northeast of Melbourne. Established during the state’s mid-19th-century Gold Rush era, Euroa’s commercial centre features a number of historical buildings including the still-operational post office (1890), one of the former bank buildings held up by notorious bushranger Ned Kelly in 1878, and the grand residence known as Blairgowrie House (1890). Built in 1876, the Farmers Arms Hotel now houses the Farmers Arms Museum, with a room dedicated to Ned Kelly history.

Snaking through the centre of town, Seven Creeks is flanked by parks and recreational facilities, with plenty of scenic picnic spots. Better known today as a wool-producing region, Euroa is a handy base for exploring the surrounding mountain ranges and country towns, with a number of picturesque drives to choose from.

What are the top things to do in Euroa?

Gooram Falls

A top spot for a swim during the summer months, Gooram Falls is just a 20-minute drive south of Euroa on the road to Mansfield. There are picnic tables and barbecues in the day use area; follow the short trail along Seven Creeks to find the upper and lower falls, and paddle in rock pools along the way.

Ned Kelly Touring Route

Take a step back into Australia’s bushranger era by picking up a Ned Kelly Touring Route brochure at Euroa’s visitor centre and hitting the road. Taking in the places frequented by the Kelly Gang in the late 19th century, it’s a road trip that will give you the ultimate insight into the life of the iconic outlaw.

Mount Wombat

Love a great viewpoint? Then make your way to Mount Wombat, a 20-minute drive southeast of Euroa, which offers superb countryside views from its 799-metre summit. Drive all the way to the top, or park halfway up and enjoy a walk to the top, with picnic spots along the way.
