Holiday rentals with a kayak in Central Illinois

I used to live on Vandalia Lake, so I knew what to expect from the location - but the house is much nicer than pretty much anything else you'll find in Vandalia. It was the perfect place to spend the weekend while celebrating my granny's 82nd, and it's very likely we'll rent it again in the future, assuming it remains available for that purpose. The main living/kitchen/dining area is wide open and great for hanging out without feeling cramped, and the screened balcony/patio is a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors without being forced to "enjoy" the bugs. Everything is light, airy, modern, and well-maintained. This isn't one of those listings where the photos look great and the reality is worn and dirty - what you see is what you get.

We absolutely loved staying here! The hosts live on site, but separately from the airbnb, and they definitely gave us privacy! We were able to communicate with them quickly about how to use the heated pool and customize the hot tub to our preferred settings :) We utilized the fire pit and made s’more’s with a kit they provided, which was awesome!! Clean-up was just place your trash in the breezeway and clean your dishes - nothing excessive. Overall 10/10 visit and definitely recommend!!

This house was perfect for our girls’ weekend. Plenty of comfortable spaces to hang out both inside and outside. Comfy beds. Overall very peaceful, which is exactly what we needed!

We wanted a place with a view and boy did we get it, the river right outside your back door was amazing. It felt like home as soon as we walked in, it was her birthday and they left brownies and a happy birthday for her. All in all we went to relax and that's exactly what we did!!!!

Our stay here was great! Dzenad was very responsive with any questions I had. It is so peaceful with the river practically in the backyard. I DEFINITELY recommend staying there if you get the chance.

I enjoyed the backyard, I did a little hike back into the woods. The house was nice and clean and very comfortable.

The River Edge property was perfect. Had family come down from Wisconsin to fish. We enjoyed fishing from boat on the Osage and Missouri rivers and enjoy a peaceful fire on the river bank at night.

What a wonderful stay. We wish we would have had more time to enjoy the property and the weather would have been a little warmer. The Milk House is super cute and comfy and we hope it is available next time we are in the area.

Our stay was perfect! Alisa was an accommodating host and easy to communicate with. Her place is exactly what is pictured and is as described. My kids loved her DVD collection and we had a great time playing games — we were indoors mostly since the weather wasn’t cooperating for fishing. We felt completely comfortable!

The pictures don’t do this house justice. Beautiful views, comfortable and clean accommodations. We had everything we needed. Host was very responsive and kind. Thank you for allowing us to check in a bit early. It really helped after 3 long days of traveling.

Tammy's home was just as the pictures show it. Very clean. Well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful views. Lots of space. We watched deer and other wildlife. The wifi was slow, but we weren't trying to work. Vandalia is close with all the necessities. We even went into St. Louis a couple of days. Tammy was quick to respond when we had questions.

This is our third stay at this location. We will be back again. Great location for our need to visit family in the area!

i loved this place. my australian terrier, mackay, and i stayed for 5 nights. there was a carport, which provided a great place to attach the cable i used to tie out mackay. although it rained a lot, i was able to soak in the wonderful hot tub between showers. the home was very comfortable. i especially enjoyed the enclosed porch where is set up my laptop, and watched birds on the lake. a great blue heron (i think) visited twice while i was watching the lake was also visited by a swan (also, i think). at first i wasn't sure if it was a swan or goose, but decided it was a swan because the neck was real long. wish i would have remembered a bird book and binoculars! thanks, kim and tony

Had such a great weekend with my friend, we watched movies in the beautiful living room and got to enjoy the beautiful view outside when it wasn’t pouring out. The home was very clean and provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay. I would definitely stay here again!

This is definitely a place. I will be coming back to probably one of the best Airbnb‘s I’ve ever stayed at. I loved the dogs also they’re so friendly. I felt like I made new friends at this place.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our night in this beautiful cabin. Michael was very friendly, and let us know to reach out if we needed anything. The cabin was beautiful, clean, and cozy. The pictures almost don’t do it justice, the view is stunning and double deck porch was awesome. We spent the night having a fire outside, what a serene experience. Definitely would recommend.

The Turkey Bluff Cabin was a perfect romantic getaway for 2. Next time we will bring our 8 yr old to try our luck fishing. We loved our stay even after 4 days of rain and canceling our original plan of tent camping all weekend. We enjoyed a nice fire and the gas stove indoors instead.

This place was great. There isn’t much around here to do, especially in the winter, but we were looking to mostly disconnect from the outside world for a week and this was great for that. Aside from laundry there is really is everything you need to live here full time including a fully stocked kitchen with various helpful appliances like a crock pot and toaster stashed away but accessible. Perfect for a few days or a full week! It was a little dusty in some spots but otherwise clean and well kept. Had a great time. Hoping to come back when the weather is warmer and take advantage of the lake!

My husband and I had such a lovely trip to this cabin. It was literally perfect. The area is so private, peaceful, and super spacious! We could not recommend this Airbnb enough!! Jensena is super kind, accommodating, and responsive! She even left us some goodies when we arrived, and the cabin was spotless! The pictures are stunning, but nothing compared to the home in person! If you are thinking about renting it, do it!!!

Carol’s cabin was amazing. It was beautiful, clean, and exactly what we wanted. I will definitely stay again when I’m back in the area. Highly recommend Carols cabin to anyone traveling in this area.

The terrible weather didn’t stop this from still being a great visit. Gloria is a wonderful host who brought supplies to us when the power went out which we were very thankful for. They have added a putt putt course with 6 fun and challenging holes and the view from that front porch even in the dreariest weather was still amazing. We look forward to this once a year and will be back again
