It supported a thriving boat building industry with boat builders such as Crossfields of Arnside who were leading builders of Morecambe Bay Prawners and yachts from the 1840s to 1950s. Set in an elevated position at the top of Pier Lane, Carr Garth has amazing views of the Morecambe Bay Estuary right up to The Lake District and further! Waterside house is an ancient farmhouse which sits in a large garden surrounded by fields and woodland, it has belonged to the Finsthwaite estate since it was build in 1580 . Its historical character is shown in the large fireplace and the beams, which add to the charm. Waterside is known as the home of the “Finsthwaite Princess”. who was the alleged illegitimate daughter of Bonnie Prince Charlie. She lived in three rooms on the first floor which were panelled out of scotch pine for her.
