Moon Cottage Bush Retreat

WarrenRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Moon Cottage, with its l smart modern solar design and well-equipped amenities, has a clean, welcoming, lived-in ambience. It boasts commanding views of the extensive surrounding bush through its vast north facing windows. And the large property - a maze of delightful walking tracks cleverly marked by old chairs and wheelbarrows - offers private serenity and ever changing and delightful aspects. Our son tells us watching the stars from the outdoor bath was a memorable experience. My family and I rate this place and the experiences it affords, 10 out of 10!! Our only caveat is to anyone who is not interested in familiarising themselves and complying with House Rules: this place is NOT for you! The House Rules are important so take a bit of time to get your head around them and follow through with the expected behaviour.

Stunning views. Self contained. Secluded. Quiet.

KayRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Marcus’ place was so much better than we expected! The size was perfect for a couple! Larger than a standard hotel room - despite previous reviews saying it was small! It’s definitely larger than the pics show and such great value. The location is lovely and feels like you’re in the middle of nature at night time (when we arrived), then you wake up to a beautiful view in the morning through the trees down to the water. Marcus has all the facilities you need for an easy and comfortable stay. Highly recommend for anyone passing through like us or for a lovely weekend away in Tomakin - which by the way has a stunning swimming beach (Tomakin cove) for a morning dip! Cheers Marcus 🙏🏻

Luxury beachfront house - Congo, South Coast NSW

TomRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The perfect retreat. We couldn't have asked for anything more, Phil and Lisa are fantastic hosts and made sure that we had an enjoyable holiday. The property setting is spectacular, with views through the bush onto the ocean. Being dog friendly was an added bonus, with a big garden and just a short walk to the beach, the whole family is catered for. We will definitely be returning.

We had a beautiful stay at Alex’s place in majors creek! A beautiful peaceful area with stunning countryside with the local pub and beautiful bushwalks all within a 10 minute walk of the property. The accomodation was perfect with a well stocked kitchen, plenty of towels, lovely Alive toiletries and cleaning products throughout the home and other thoughtful touches like a beautiful coffee bar and local books/pamphlets/helpful information regarding Majors Creek! Beds were very comfy with plenty of blankets/great heating to keep you warm during the cooler months! Our puppies also loved the accomodation and the beautiful surrounds! We will definitely be back to visit in future - thanks Alex!

Your guide to Braidwood

Welcome to Braidwood

Surrounded by vast plains and fertile pastures, the pretty village of Braidwood in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales attracts foodies and history buffs in equal measure. Culinary enthusiasts come for the rare black truffles grown here, while those with a penchant for colonial history descend to learn more about the region’s Gold Rush heyday and the parade of 19th-century bushrangers lured by the prospect of instant wealth.

The town of Braidwood may be small in population, but it’s big on charm, from its gloriously preserved buildings (it’s the first town to be listed on the New South Wales Heritage Register) to its antiques stores and twee cafes. It’s a setting worthy of postcards or film sets; small wonder movie directors have chosen it as a backdrop for decades.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Braidwood

There’s no bad time to visit the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, where each season brings its own appeal. The winter months usher in the harvest of the region’s prized black Périgord truffles (which are considered some of the best in the world), and festivals celebrate the annual bounty in and around nearby Canberra. Participate in foraging excursions, or simply cosy up beside a restaurant fire with a bowl of truffle-laden pasta. Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking through the expansive national parks that surround Braidwood, while summer brings pleasantly mild temperatures thanks to the Tablelands’ high altitude.

Top things to do in Braidwood

Monga National Park

Braidwood is the gateway to Monga National Park, its union of high-altitude eucalyptus forest and ancient cool-temperate rainforest hosting tree ferns, flowering waratah, and plumwood trees. Stroll beside rivers to picnic areas, or hike tracks used by Aboriginal communities for tens of thousands of years.

Batemans Bay

It’s an easy drive southeast through Monga National Park and over the Clyde River to Batemans Bay on the South Coast. This is part of the state’s Oyster Coast, so named for the sheer number of regional growers producing top-quality molluscs. The extensive waterways also make the area popular among adventure-seekers, as you’ll find kayakers throughout Batemans Marine Park on the lookout for dolphins, penguins, seals, and whales, plus all manner of seabirds.

Deua National Park

This enormous national park is popular for many reasons, including its outstanding hiking, swimming, picnicking, and canoeing. Another reason people flock here is for the first-rate bird watching, with more than 100 species such as owls and peregrine falcons claiming the forests, mountains, deep gorges and high plateaus as home. Don’t miss the aptly named Big Hole: a 100-metre-deep limestone pit thought to be formed millions of years ago when the ceiling collapsed on an underground cave.
