My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids)(pets).
“I booked the cosy retreat to recoup after a long 4 months stuck in Glasgow with my kids. We needed some country air and this house was available. My son hadn’t been well on the way down but Robert was so helpful and let us check in early as the public bathroom in Gatehouse of Fleet was closed. The host was extremely helpful and friendly so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it! We all loved the log fire and it was superb sitting at night watching the flames flicker with a glass of wine. The kids would have liked WiFi but I didn’t mind, it was nice to get away from it for a few days. The view from the garden really is spectacular and if you’re lucky enough to get dry weather it would be lovely to watch the river. It’s also worth pointing out that there’s a lovely woodland and children’s play area if you follow a path behind the public toilets close to the town’s car park which we really enjoyed. We took a drive down the scenic route which was clearly sign posted in the town and saw some calves up close. For the kids, I would recommend Sandgreen beach which is only a short drive away. If you do stay, please bring some change to enjoy the drinks and logs which are paid for by an honesty box which was really handy. We would definitely consider staying here again. We have family in the area so know it well, staying around often. This was good value for money.”
Argrennan Lodge is the gatehouse to the Argrennan estate and situated just inside the main entrance offering accommodation for up to 4 people, 5 with the addition of the sofa bed. This property is centrally heated but has a wood burning stove for extra comfort. A great space set within the 50 acres of the Argrennan Manor Estate from which to enjoy a break away in this green and peaceful corner of Scotland.
“Perfect break away for our first holiday with our newborn. Loved the grounds to walk through together, the fireplace was a nice touch to make ourselves at home for a few days. Kitchen is full of everything you need and with a dining room for your meals this really was a home away from a home. Fully recommend for others and will be returning!”
Ardwall Lodge is situated on a working farm outside the beautiful village of Gatehouse of Fleet. It is conveniently located next to the A75 from which you can explore the whole of Dumfries and Galloway. The area has wonderful beaches, lochs and mountains which are all close by. We are 2 miles from Laggan Outdoor and GG's Yard. And close to many other local attractions.
“Ardwell Lodge - D&G 12-15 July My wife and I stayed in Ardwell Lodge for 3 nights, for a mini-break in D&G, just at the end of Scottish lockdown of the corona crisis. We have been to D&G many many times, Gatehouse of Fleet being one of our favourite places to stay, but haven’t stayed at Ardwell Lodge before. Which we found was in a delightful spot, and very accessible being next to A75, so very easy to find. The cottage was ideal for our purposes, very secluded and surprisingly quite despite its position next to a very busy road. The Cottage had everything needed for a few of nights stay, extremely comfortable and relaxing chairs, kingsize bed in main bedroom upstairs, with an extra double bedroom downstairs, which we didn’t use. Excellent bathroom, with super rainfall shower over bath. Great smart flat LED TV, reasonable WiFi, tea & coffee making facilities etc. We had everything needed to cook evening meals and breakfast, which was really useful, since due to corona restrictions all the local restaurants, pubs, cafes etc were only doing takeaways or outdoor services. Maggie was super helpful in letting us know what takeaway places were open and other attractions which were open to visit, together with rspb & nature reserves which were open, and give a few recommendations which we greatly appreciated. We didn’t get glorious weather during our stay, but it remained fairly dry throughout and enjoyed being able to sit in the outside space, although we didn’t make the most of it because we spend most of our days exploring the area around Gatehouse, and found some super beaches at Sandgreen, Carrick Bay , Brighouse Bay, unfortunately the public beaches at Mossyard was closed during our visit. Also visited Cream of Galloway for coffee and did some super walks around Cally house in Gatehouse, and Kircudbright There is so much to do and see in this area we haven’t yet exhausted places/attractions to visit and will definitely be coming back soon. Overall we had a fabulous time and will be returning to visit, and perhaps doing some of the local activities very very soon, once coronavirus situation is more relaxed. Many thank to Maggie for recommendations & messages, you definitely earn your super host status. Ian & Susan Sibbald”
