The cabin is located in a fantastic, idyllic location and views at 850 meters above sea level. It is a short walk from the cabin to the tree line and mountain plateau. The drive to Hessdalen takes about two hours from Trondheim and less than an hour from Røros. The cabin was new in 2011 and has a very high standard. The mountain area is internationally known for a light phenomenon and is located at Forollhogna National Park. State property, with the possibility of hunting nearby. Gammelstuggu takes you back in time while at the same time having access to today's facilities.

The flat comprises the entire ground floor of a small farmhouse and has a main bedroom with ensuite, a sitting room (functions as a second bedroom when there are more than two guests), a kitchen and a second bathroom. The surroundings are peaceful and you can park right outside the door. At certain times of year, you might see elk or cranes. In the summer, cows graze in the nearby fields; the traditional barn is now a cultural centre, run by Fjøsakademiet.
