The Train - all aboard!

Enjoy a memorable visit when you stay in this unique place. The train is a 1973 coach which has been lovingly restored into luxury self catering accommodation for 2. Come and re live your rail journeys, or sit out on the observation deck and take in the beautiful view of the Vlei and mountains. Take a short walk to the village and buy some locally crafted food and gifts. A French slow combustion fire place (low emissions) and heaters throughout will ensure you are warm and cosy everywhere

Private Studio located on the Vlei with otter sightings. The only traffic you will experience are the free roaming animals. Within the garden, there is an extensive greenhouse. As well some free range eggs. DSTV, Netflix & unlimited Wifi. Solar and a borehole, so no uninterrupted services and comfort during your stay. Picturesque views from all the rooms. A patio door off the kitchen which leads to your own private terrace, where you can watch the spectacular sunsets over a barbecue.

Stone Cottage Your home from home near Volksrust

Stone Cottage lies in the Balele mountains with beautiful views and wonderful weather. While offering guests a peaceful and comfortable stay, the farm can also challenge others to hikes and leisurely walks. Please ask us about the routes. The working farm has cattle, a handful of sheep, horses and chickens. It is a place of tranquility and beauty. The perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle. Please feel free to use the various picnic spots along the mountain streams.

Vlei House

A large, comfortable, self - catering holiday house. Walking distance to both the Wetland Reserve and Wakkerstroom Village. Tranquil, with a very large garden that leads onto the 'vlei'. It is perfectly located within Wakkerstroom. We deliberately do not have wifi or television so as to enjoy the 'digital detox' that Wakkerstroom offers. There is erratic mobile network coverage in Wakkerstroom and at Vlei House. There are TVs at the hotel and some pubs, in need.

Sunbird Cottage - Relaxed Farm Getaway

Sunbird Cottage is on a working farm 30km from Volksrust and Wakkerstroom Wetlands, it is a place to come and relax and recharge, we are off grid. There is great birding, walking, mountain biking and bass fishing on site, there are also kayaks for the dams. The cottage overlooks a gorge that goes down to the Slang River with an indigenous forest and has great views over the valley towards Amajuba Mountain and Battlefields for those interested in history.

The Cottage is within walking distance, 100m, of restaurants and town centre but also very private with beautifull gardens and lovely patio for you to enjoy. you can light a fire for those cooler wakkerstroom days or nights...bring your own music playlist of favourite music to listen to on our sound system and read your favourite book or you can just relax on the couches after some birdwatching!
