**FAVOURITE** Great breakfast and amazing coffee and run by some of the loveliest staff. They often have single origin too. Sweet-tooth? Order the Ricotta Pancakes, if not, get the Smashed Avocado, Big Fat Liar or Benedict. The chicken pide for lunch is yum too! Walking distance from the apartment.

Not the best Japanese in Melbourne but well above average and it's right across the road! Amazing saki selection and sashimi platter! Have fun with the different types of Yakitori. They take bookings and have two sittings 6pm and 8pm.

Awesome burgers. Menu tip? Order the Melburnian Burger and don't be scared by the warnings of heat. It's not that spicy at all but it's ohhhhhh so delicious. Steer clear of the shakes though.

Great spot for cheap, quick and tasty Japanese food. Definitely not fine dining by any stretch but this place is a hit takeaway spot with locals and students and there are always people waiting outside for takeaway or a table during peak periods. Sometimes Hawthorn AFL footballers too! Right next to Piccolina's and walking distance from the apartment.

New-style mexican. Definitely a hit with the Melbourne foodie crowd. I rate it on par with Mamasita and a whole lot easier to get a table. Menu picks for me are any of the quesadillas (the sauce that goes with the chicken one is AWESOME), the fish burrito and the fish taco!

It's worth the effort getting to the rooftop on a fine day/evening. Wonderful views. Yummy pizza and great beef carpaccio salad (when they have it). The fried stuff on the menu? Give all that a miss.

Hakata Gensuke make incredibly great ramen. Gensuke specialise in pork bone noodle soup and dipping noodle also know as Tonkotsu Ramen and Tsukemen. I once was told the best ramen has lots of bubbles due to the quality of the stock (high collagen content). Well, their ramen has lots of bubbles!! Worth trying!

**FAVOURITE** My favourite restaurant. Amazing modern south-east asian cuisine in a lively space. You can't book so get in early. I recommend getting there no later than 6pm weekdays, and 5.30 on fri/sat. Once you put your name on the list they will send you a txt message on your mobile phone to let you know when a table is ready. Usually you'll have to wait for around an hour for a table. Don't be put of by that, head downstairs for a drink while you wait! They have a funky bar underneath the restaurant with great cocktails.

From the same guys that created Chin Chin (my favourite Melbourne restaurant), Kong is certainly the "dude food" version of this style of south-east asian cuisine. Expect ribs, sticky marinades, crunchy slaws and spice!

Melbourne is famous for it's hidden laneway culture and Eau De Vie is probably the finest example. Definitely one of my favourite bars in Melbourne, Eau De Vie is 1920's-style speak easy with hundreds of types of whiskey, cocktails and food. There's even a hidden lounge behind a bookcase. There is no signage whatsoever, down the end of the laneway look for the big wooden door with the gold handle.
