Why locals recommend it
Many people don't realize that inside this Asian supermarket there’s a Vietnamese deli that sells amazing Vietnamese sandwiches. The "Banh Mi Vietnam" is my favorite, loaded with deli ham, pork loaf, pork belly, headcheese, creamy pate, pickled carrots and daikons, fresh cilantro, cucumbers, and jalapenos. It's $6 well spent. It's close to the 16th and Mission BART station, so ideally located if you’re out in the Mission and want a bite before you get on BART. They also have terrific spring rolls, green papaya salads, and fresh coconuts for drinking.
Tips from locals
Family-run market supplies a broad range of traditional Asian grocery items & Vietnamese deli fare.
Despite the fact that I saw a live pigeon wandering around inside once, I still tout them as a good spot for basic groceries close to our apt. Fresh produce, organic foods & a mean $6 ban mi sandwich.
$5 lemongrass banh mi sandwiches (huge!) and a Thai grocery with sometimes hard-to-find Asian items!
