Why locals recommend it

This is one of the oldest street art spots in the city. It’s an alleyway in the Mission that’s completely covered in murals. You get some crazy smells, but also beautiful artwork with flowers hanging over from the adjacent backyards. This is a historic San Francisco spot, and a lot of the murals have a political focus to them. When you’ve taken in the whole length of the alley, walk around the corner to Sycamore St. and Valencia, where the street art continues.

This mural-lined alley is my favorite place in San Francisco. It's managed by a nonprofit collective of artists with a passion for social justice. I always leave feeling inspired.
