The largest freshwater pool in England is 90m by 30m and has a thriving local community of swimmers. Open since 1906 and surrounded by trees and red, yellow, or green changing cubicles, it makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. When the sun is out, the water is dazzling. There’s a decent café too. The lido is open to the public in the summer months, but only open to members October through May. In January, you can watch, or even sign up for, the Cold Water Swimming Championships—a real spectacle. Brad Pitt’s even visited.

Excellent for an early morning swim as the sun rises, or on a hot day for lounging about around the pool. 92 m long so quite the work out!

Tooting Bec Lido opens to the public from 29 March to 30 September 2021. It is the largest fresh water pool in England, encircled by trees and birdsong. It is 100 yards long and 33 yards wide and contains one million gallons of water. It is COLD but very refreshing. All swims must be booked through Places Leisure. You cannot turn up and swim.

What's not to like about a 100 yard open air swimming pool! Only a 5 minute walk across the common.
